Great news then ... lowest vid I saw in a Q9550 was like 1.2125

It's not the lowest.
My L847C219 is 1.2375 VID by the way. Still dialing in the voltages for 4Ghz :)
Ok guys here it is...

Well, reinstalling windows 7 now. Stupid raids.
Ended up getting the p5q turbo. I actually really like it so far! A lot better than the p5k in my server.
Also, chad, I know i'm not overclocking but my vid still dropped with speedstep turned off. I had to run a load to get a reliable number. Even then it changed every few seconds.
Hell when I was screwing with the crappy settings with the 750i I was able to start and run with a .9 something voltage!
If you want to know the vid use realtemp, it shows both min and max so theres no guessing.
Here is the real temp numbers. I am going to be selling this chip, since I will not be able to take full advantage of what it will offer under Phase or Ln2.

Just got everything in and setup.
No clue how stable it is yet, I have no clue what i'm doing haha. I'm running intelburntest.

I'm very happy of succeeding 3h of OCCT.
377*8.5 was stable with a very low vcore but 400*8 wasn't, I thought that the northbridge and the FSB were the cause, I set 1.26V for vnb and vtt, and 1.225 vcore (1.20V via cpuz and 1.17V load).

Hey all, I'm planning on grabbing a Q9550 from my local microcenter and wanted to know if its possible to hit 4ghz with a P5Q-E (chipset rev. A2, if that matters)?
My validation :
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=669234
As C1E is enabled, I had to run cinebench to get the real frequency, so this is the vcore under load (1.17V), whereas the idle vcore is around 1.20V.
I expect that many people will say that 3h of OCCT ain't enough, but for a use like mine, I think that 3h is enough.
http://www.noelshack.com/up/aaa/qehs...cbcc104813.png
you should have know problem booting up at 4.0ghz but you have to work to keep it stable..when you go to micro center ask the saleman to see if they all are the same batch numbers and how many he has pick a good 1 and please post your batch number and born on date for us..me and CincyRob on here got the same batch number and everything cause there was 13 left of the same at the time at are local micro center here in Cinncinnati..I wanna see if your store and my store got the same batch numbers by chance or close to it :yepp:
you should have the C1E disabled to get the correct freguency along with the CIET Function also or you will be throttled..i believe a test with intelburentest will
clear you of a stable chip if you pass the test after words run it thru a few hours of Orthos that's what..i do and Sandra to check my (mips) hey magnum
you should be sitting on 3.9 like me but it did take me some volts to get it stable there..I gotta work on lowering it down some best of luck my friend
hey best of luck with the board you got.hey can you post a link to that PSU you are talking about getting also?
Thanks

bigwill 68 => How many hours of Intel BurnTest do you advise to check it well ?
intelburntest is a 1 time test of stress ,Stress it at the highest level of 1 number of times to run it 5 times watch your temps RealTemp & Core temp after words run Orthos about 7 to 8 hours a normal work shift to see if it passes also
here's my results from me passing intelburntest
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/4555/cpu39.jpg
as you can see my temps got high as in the 70's under stress test passed 5 out 5
the arrows point to the key areas that you need to keep a eye on
then i closed inteburntest a tested under Orthos for 8 hours..i went to bed

Just 280 sec ? Is It engough for IntelBurnTest ?
biwill => I notice that the tj.Max read by coretemp is 105°C, Shouldn't It be 100°C ?
Can I use prime95 instead of Orthos ?
Anyway, when my overclock was not stable, the unstability was due to chipset/fsb, so, as OCCT is more stressful for memory, I don't think that running Orthos or Prime95 is better.
I've run both Intelburntest (5 times) and Prime95 (8K for 5 hours), and everything works. But should I run intelburntest on Windows 7 64 bits because I've 4 Go whereas XP 32 bits uses only 3.2.

IBT stress's alot more than any other stress test out there. it dont take long for IBT to see/find out if things are ok. you can change the amount of test it runs. 5-10 times is more than enough. its not a long drawn out process.
BigWill.
im done over there at that other site. them idiots can have the show and put out bad info. tired of stupidity. people want good info sound advice, not some one sided point of view....
hey guys, Intel Burn Test has found an unstability while running on Windows 7 64 bits, whereas It hasn't found any while running on Windows XP 32 bits.
i havent looked into it much but im thinking it might not be setup for Windows 7 as of yet.
Stability tests in 64 bit are harder to pass than in 32 bit and if your going to run prime you need to run more than just the 8K test.
8K is good at testing the CPU, I've run OCCT for 3h to check the memory. But at the stock speed, IntelBT has succeeded on W7 64, whereas, at 3.4GHz (with 1.28V for the vnb and vtt) with only 2048Mo, it has found an unstability within less than 1 minute. With XP 32, 2047 Mo is fine.
If your wanting to test the cpu run small fft not just the 8k test, running a single test set is not very helpful.
How many minutes should I set ? I want the test to run for 5 h.
I've tried 7*400 (2.8GHz), still failing. Whereas, 8.5*333 is fine. Even with 1.26V vnb and vtt it fails IBT.
give us some info on mobo, ram , bios settings used...
I wanna reach 3.4 GHz (I have a P5Q-E with the last bios, Q9550 E0 VID 1.25V, 2*2048Mo PC8500 GSkill PK) with these following settings :
Multi : 8.5
FSB : 400
RAM : 1066 (5-5-5-15)
Vcore : 1.225 (LLC disabled)
Ram voltage : 2.1V
Vnb : 1.26V
Vfsb (or vtt) : 1.26V
Vsb : 1.1V (stock)
Vpcie : stock
CPU Margin Enhancement : Optimized
EIST : enabled
C1E : enabled
C-states : disabled
T-junction : enabled
Intel Virtualization (or something like this) : enabled
I've run OCCT for 3H, Prime95 8k for 5H, IBT 5 times, all of these tests have succeeded (on XP 32 bits). But IBT fails on Seven 64.
I'm going crazy, I'm gonna eat my keyboard if this hell carries on.
Ever thought IBT could be the problem ? we have discovered several issues when runningthe latest version with 4-8 threads (S775 and S1366) very high and max memory setting... is/was a shall program as LinX and co all passed. No idea if AgentGod already updated it...
Try LinX and check again ... I run a Hyperpi32mb (4threads) if that passes I'm already pretty confident it's sort of stable for 24/7 ops for the rams...
ok, thanks for helping I'm going to try Linx and SuperPi, how many times should I run LinX ?
Try Hyperpi , not superpi mate... and run it with 4 instances 32MB... for Linx set max ram and run 10 instances, more than sufficient... no need to pound ya hardware during hours and hours...
im doing a little tinkering went into bios played around with some setting trying to get my ram to run closer to 1066about 920 is the best i can do to keep them stable.went and put things back to normal and forgot and left OC at only 3.61ghz.. no biggy but i ran LinX for the first time. never used it before . this is what i got. is this good bad???? not sure as to how to read it.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i196/Cincrob/LinX.png
I've run LinX (max memory) 20 times but It has failed. I've set the vcore at 1.23V and It has succeeded.
http://www.noelshack.com/up/aaa/azqe...85718ce447.jpg

My cooling system is a Zalman CNPS9700, I think of bying a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme (or True Black 120 ?), should I keep my money ?
how can you tell it failed? your post looks like mine does? does that mean mine has failed also?
hey guys, what are all the good VID's and batch numbers with the Q9550's. the E0's. I've done lots of reading on what I have, the Q9650. but I just built a rig for a friend and I installed a Q9550 E0. it's a L847C Batch and I got lucky and got a 1.18 VID I think, Win 7 is loading right now. It showed 1.15 in BIOS, but in MIT page it read 1.18v set to auto, so I'm thinking thats the vdroop and I've got a 1.18 VID. and it's idling at 28c so looks like it's a solid chip.
I have it under a UD3L so we'll see. I'll run tests in a while. but if it's an amazing chip, I'll take it for myself and replace it. haha!
Thanks for any info on VID info for these Q9550's. or are all the E0's basically good OC'ers just like all the Q9650's are?
The one im using is a 1.200 vid, batch no, L844C01, currently clocked at 3.8ghz on 1.21875v in bios, 1.200 idle and 1.216 at load.
I've run IBT again, and, I has succeeded ! I've installed chipset drivers for W7, today, I'm gonna try to lower the voltages.
Also, I'm thinking I might need to do a reseat of my Cooler.
I got the Xig Dark Knight, the S-1283V and Installed it with the stock fan, and some MX-2 and my Q9550 is sitting at stock voltage of 1.1875v and stock speed and my temps are 39, 40, 40, 35 and I'm in the desert so they will drop when it gets colder, it's 79F inside the house. Almost 80. So thats what. 26c
I'm thinking at stock speeds it should be more around 33c idle, but then load is more important right, maybe I should try with less MX-2, or go back to my Shin Etsu
Those temps look good to me. almost dead on mine. i have 41, 38, 38, 40. and my room temp is around 79f also. i have the OCZ Vendetta 2 on top of my CPU ive had it on for a couple weeks and ihave seen a big drop in load temps the longer it is on. at first running IBT i hit 68c and 63c on pr95. on IBT now im barely hitting 601c and on PR95 54c it max. i wouldnt change out the cooler just yet. let it work its magic for a week or so.
i have had my Q9550 for a few weeks now maybe 3. here is my Batch
#L846B715
i have it running at 3.83ghz(yup i got a hemi) had it at 4.01? but not stable due to my ram. ive seen this batch and the L847C's oc real well.
EDIT:
Sweet HAF. thats next once i get my new mobo...lol
ya.. but see yours is running my same temps with 1.26v and overclocked to 3.8 Ghz, mine is stock.. 2.83 Ghz. my 3.0 Ghz Q9650 ran cooler than this.. and does at 4.0 Ghz with a TRUE.
I think it was the mount, and the wait a few weeks only matters when the Thermal paste needs to cure, like AS5, but I used MX-2 and it doesn't have a cure time, but I'm thinking I'm going to try out my Shin Etsu again as it's working perfect on my sig rig under the GTZ
good point there didnt take into the fact your not OC'd yet..lol guess i should have kept my mouth shut...lol
i didnt use AS5 this time. tried some of the OCZ freeze. i think it along the same lines as the MX-2 ive been told it dont need the cure time like AS5. IMHO i think after some run time they all preform better.
well I do agree that after a little run time all tim performs a little better, This is of course because the Thermal Paste gets heated up, and cooled down, and do this a few times. Run prime, then shut off the PC. after a week or 2. it's melted and cooled over and over and it gets into all the microscopic cracks and stuff of that sort.
After a few runs it spreads better and probably gets better temps, but whatever. and the Sticker on the bottom of the Dark Knight left tons if VERY sticky residue on the bottom of the Cooler, I was worried and not even 91% alcohol would remove it, I ended up using goo-gone, and my fingernails to get it off. So at least it's looking ok.
Stock speed, stock voltage, Q9550 with Dark Knight 25 Mins of Prime95 I'm sitting around 51c on first 3 cores, and 46 on last.. little high for stock speed load temps
What's your VID ?
Guys, I've run many stress tests ("Prime95 small FFTs, OCCT, IntelBT, LinX"), I don't want to run all of theses tests whenever I try others settings. So, what are the useless tests among the last ones quoted ?
I've tried to try 5 times IBT again, with 1.225V and it has worked ! I've tried 1.2125V, and It have still worked. Afterward, I've run LinX 20 times, It has succeed. All of these tests have run on Windows 7 64. Weird, for 1.225V, even LinX has failed, I've just installed the drivers of the chipset, lan, and audio. Perhaps, I can still lower the vcore, but don't want to run tests again.
My news settings :
Vcore : 1.2125V (LLC still disabled, 1.18V idle, 1.16V load)
Vnb : 1.22V
Vfsb : 1.22V

Should I run OCCT or Prime to check well the stability ?
Ok I just got mine at MC and I got the L847C219 that Tool got but, mine has a VID of 1.225 as you see in my screen shot below. I just plopped her in didn't have to clear my CMOS or anything but, I had to tweak the 8 multiplier that my Q9450 had to 8.5 and turned up the voltage one notch to 1.3v to be safe and saved and booted right into to windows!! What What!. I sold my old Q9450 for $120 on Ebay today. Very happy. I don't honestly think my MB can push any further then 480 but, I will mess around later after stability testing it. My temps are super low!

I just wonder if my P45 Chipset is bottle necking now or not . I seen a few people in here that live around me, any one have a X48 Chipset to test with me? I seen a really good write up at some site where dude compared X48 with P45 and two 4870 cards and the P45 came out ahead but, I might be pushing the limit a little more then that guy was. I would have to find it again to see what he was clocked at with the cards and CPU.
Maybe I was wrong about my MB. I am on 490FSB and just tested 485 stable.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=677815
Edit: Take that back I don't think it was stable I think it was just acting stable. I honestly think this motherboard is holding me back at 480ish FSB wise. I fought with this thing that whole time changing this and tweaking that in the BIOS and it seemed as if the more I slowed down the motherboard the little more stable it would act.
well i was trying to tinker a little more... yea i know im at my max right now wit hthis mem. but i have to try..loljust wont do much of anything over 425fsb. putting mem at 850mhz so that s where im running at now. ran all the norm test passed fine. running prime95 now and it is only showing 1 core???? do i have a setting wrong or the wrong version for a C2Q?

My pc rebooted after 2h of OCCT, so I set the vcore at 1.2075 (about) instead of 1.20V, but I don't know If the unstability was due to VTT or Vcore. I've got to carry out testing.
Main focus is on P55 now lads, also don't think the UD5 will ever pop up in the shops :(
Just got this Q9550 E0 SLB8V on morning, planned to run F@H 24/7 so I'm completely satisfied with this clock, EP45-UD3R is phased-out => I think P5Q Turbo is not a bad choice.
