well i just got them today so i hadn't had time to test them to the extend. at what frequency and at what perfomance level (tRD) do you run that or want me to run it?

What cellshock sticks are those ? the 1200s ? you running 4x1 ?

There is no CellShock 1200 kit, the highest rated CL 5 kit is the 1150's. They look like the 8000 CL 4's (GKX), the same as my CellShock kits.

Electro - Nice 32M run. Was the ram missing the thermal pads corresponding to some IC's or did you remove them?

my cellshocks dont have thermal pads, it is arctic ceramique and they directly tough the heatspreders better imo

Sorta new to this stuff, how do i capture screen shots of cpuz, and everest, and put them on here, i know i can save the everest scores, but the file is to big to put here, so how do shrink the file, and how do i capture cpuz screen shots ? thanks guys.:up:

Arrange all the windows you want to capture together (just neatens it up I hate full screen shots with only 3 or so windows open such a waste of space) - if you dont know what i mean look at some of my screen shots

Open photoshop

Make a new window, then go 'EDIT' -> 'paste'

Go to 'Image' -> image size

resize to ~900 wide

save as jpeg ~ 200 - 300kb in size

I'v got some money to get some RAM (for overclocking only) and could someone tell me what I should get. I have about $150 Australian MAX to spend. I looked and the Cellshock PC2-8000 CL4's aren't for sale anymore. So could someone recommended me some RAM. I'v seen that team xtreme 6400's and 8500's are good.

No guarantees on how they'll perform and with barely any stock remaining you will almost certainly not get D9 ram back if you had to RMA. Better hurry whatever you choose, stock everywhere is dwindling. Just look around memoryc or australian etailers and try to find some that look good.

I checked and it says part numbers ending with .16FDx and I don't think they have that. But it doesn't says what the chips are if they don't end in that. Could someone help?

No they aren't D9. The chips are 128M, meaning the 1GB modules are single sided. D9's are 64M and 1GB modules are double sided. The single sided crucials are really bad, they'd be lucky to hit 500MHz CL5. They are probably PSC, but I don't know for sure, I haven't looked them up because they are so bad. 4GB 8500 kits from Mushkin and Gskill clock better.

Yes, all D9 GMH/GKX are 64M and all 1GB modules that use them are double sided. A double sided module has 16 IC's on it, and as each GMH/GKX IC is 64M, 16 x 64 = 1024 MB.

Nice, is that fully stable, or just partially stable (ie: 53% pass of only 1200mb ram)? Memtest is harder on the ram/NB when you run 2 instances of it with ~860 - 890MB in each instance.

How do your CS's clock mate? They should do 650 (DDR2 -1300) pretty easy.

Nah it was all there. I removed the Cellshock HS and put them under OCZ Flex Watercooling HS which i painted black. You can see that in the picture above the everest run.

FedEx delivered to me today the last Cellshock 8000 C4 kit from MemoryC :D I'm at work so I can't do much with them right now, but I did open the package and take a look. The PCB on these looks different from the 8000 C5 kit, it's more glossy or something.

Nice work. I'm glad I ordered mine when I did. Seems like they're all gone from almost everywhere now.

If you can find any; all MemoryC has left of D9 Cellshock DDR2 are the 2x1GB PC2-8500 kits. I haven't seen any CellShock anywhere else.

That is an older SKU... Kingston stopped making the PC2-9600 sticks. If you can find them still in stock they are most likely going to be D9 GKX.

My heatspreaders on my HyperX are not coming off very easily so I don't know what was really used on mine. I first bought them thinking that with the high voltage spec. there was a possibility that they would still be Micron IC. I was wondering what a D9 GKX stick will do that an Elpida stick won't? Also I tested the RAM I got back from RMA and its useless. It says stock is 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v. So I tried that exact setting and it won't even boot. I have to run 887MHz.

I'm guessing that was your Corsair RMA? If it won't run stock speed & timings at stock volts that is grounds for RMA. I'd contact them if I were you (when you have ram to replace it with) as that is just not good enough. I don't understand how companies send out ram that wont do its rated speed/timings at rated voltage, what is wrong with their QC?

Yeah I think I will RMA, I'll wait for my Cellshock RAM first. I have a kit of Dominator PC2-9136's that are good.

My only concern is that if I send it back to Corsair they will set 2.1v in the BIOS and not take vbump into account. Therefore it prob would work and they'll send it back to me and then charge me for their time.

My vbump is ~0.08v.

What is vbump? You mean the real vdimm is 0.08v less than bios set or more than bios set?

When they rate ram, it's not bios set voltage, its real voltage. Set whatever gives you 2.1v real and if it doesn't work, RMA.

Sorry isn't vbump a prober thingy. I meant in Windows it is 0.08v higher then in BIOS. So i set 2.02v in BIOS and I get 2.1v in Windows.

To be sure you'd need to measure with a DMM, I wouldn't trust software. However Corsair should know exactly what the boards used for testing provide at the dimm slot, and if it is getting 2.1v and wont run stock rated settings, it should be replaced.

AFAIK the Cellshock PC8500 kit is the same as the PC8000 kit, both sets use the same binning process. The only difference is the 8000 use very highly binned GKX vs. the 8500s highly binned GMH. Both ICs for all intents and purposes may as well be the same. All this talk about memory though makes me want to pick up another Cellshock kit, so in a while I think I just might :p:

Well my 8000 CL4 kits are very close to my 8500 GMH kits, but the GKX is slightly better, they can do the same clocks and timings on 0.02v less. Not much difference though. I want to test each stick in my 2 cellshock kits and find the best 2 for benching purposes.

Well, Ive bought Cellshock PC8500 kit, arrived yesterday. And dunno what it makes, but to run them on 1000MHz CL4, I need 2.3V which is much more than just 2.1V for GKX. I guess that yes, binning process is same, just GMH arent that good pieces as GKX. Do you think changing SPD could help? Btw. 1066 CL5 GKX needs only about 1.9V. :D

I hear all you guys say the 400 strap on all p45 boards is bugged, i cant find anywhere that has any info on this, does somebody have a link to info on this issue ? thanks.

No info. I tried for some time. Its a real PITA it doesn't work (for me anyway) my craptacular AW9D-Max can run a 400 strap NP.

Yes the P45 chipset has a hardware limitation that prevents it from properly being able to run a 3:5 divider. If you set this divider in the bios, you in reality are running a 2:3 divider.

Yes I found the same thing, many places I asked if they could source some for me, and they said "I have never heard of CellShock". Australia is quite behind the times in many aspects of computer hardware, and the price gouging all Australian stores are renowned for make sit even harder for the average person to afford decent gear. Look at the current price of an e8600 or a Q9650, it's ridiculous.

I just search around and see who has the best prices, so it varies a lot.

Well some people just use paint, in fact i use it just to save the screen as its less stressful to open than photoshop and if you are on the edge of stability, its more likely to not crash.

you can then open the .bmp in photoshop, crop the SS, edit the size, and save as jpeg.

I didn`t pursued the aim of finding the max MHz. I try to find the maximum safe full stable clock <2,1 volts. But there was a time i clocked it to 1400Mhz with 2,3 or 2,4 Volts but not more (don`t remember exactly).
Just now I`m running it at 1200 Mhz 5-5-5-15 with 2,00-2,05 V.
There is another thing you have to pay attention. It is the week of manufacturing. I have 2 kits: 25week of 07 year and 31week of the same year.
And I`d like to say: the kit of 25.07 is much more better than the other one.
The kit of 31.07 doesn`t want to run the same clock like 25.07 on 2,00-2,05. It needs ~2,2V.
Currently I`m looking for the kit of "Red Devil" of 25 week manufacturing.

I'll have to check my kits manufacturing dates and compare them. I'm going to handpick the best 2 sticks and run them as a pair.

These "Red Devil" is the latest and best CellShock DDR2 RAM.
For the time being, this RAM is the latest DDR3.

but i liked there products (only have em for 1 and a half week now) and i would have liked to continue using made in germany rams. Maybe it wasn't lucrative enough for msc to have section for consumer related dimms. I think they are more into industrial solutions.

Not at all. They are all related, but you can certainly change only one. There's a couple of decent basic guides on the net about timings and what each means, and it makes it all a bit clearer.

I just tested my good ram (PC2-9136) with my bad ram (PC2-8500). The bad ram can't even do stock of 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 W/ 2.2v (stock in 2.1v):mad:. But I put the two kits together and they do 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 W/ only 2.04v.

I read that the more stick the harder it is to run at a speed. Therefore needing more volts. But I got way way less volts.

What stick do you have in the 1st slot? If it's one of your good clocking ram sticks, it may have something to do with the SPD of that kit, as all 4 ram slots settings are set by the SPD of the stick in the 1st slot, other than the settings you have set in bios.

It doesn't take more vdimm to run 4 sticks as opposed to 2 (unless the ram you add needs more vdimm for the same clocks as the ram already in the board), but it will take more vNB as it's harder on the MCH.

I have my good PC2-9136 in the first slot. Also all the BIOS are exactly the same. I must have misread that u needed to up the vNB, not the vdimm - my bad. BTW my vNB is exactly the same as with only 2 bad sticks. Anyway i'm happy :D

Check the SPD of the dodgey sticks that wont run stock. I have seen some very weird Corsair SPD's, like 0-5-5-15 :rolleyes: (that was on a set I owned) and other equally stupid settings. I don't know why they don't have better QC concerning this but they have a bit of a rep for bad/inappropriate SPD settings.

I have had and seen other have numerous bad experiences with Corsair ram, IMO the only decent Corsair sticks are the PC-10000 kit, and even then it only really does CL 4 well, it's hopeless at high speed CL 5, like all Corsair ram. However when you factor in the price, none of their ram is worth using, as many other brands do better and cost significantly less.

Come to think of it, one of my OCZ Reapers has a funky SPD, tried flashing it with SPD-Z but no dice.

I checked the SPD and its all ok. My PC2-9136's suck at anything but CL5. Even 2.5v doesn't get me 800MHz 3-3-3-9 :mad:. My dead PC2-8500 were better at low timings.

I got my 4GB of ram to 1200MHz 5-5-5-15 W/ 2.1v, almost stable, one little increase would do it :). Anyway, with my good kit (PC2-9136) I couldn't even get 1200MHz to post W/ 2.3v+, yet alone even windows and bench ok. WTF I add my crap sticks and I have u use over 0.2v less. I could understand if it was the same volts, but 0.2v less is quite a bit. I don't get it, neither kit ny itself can do it, so y can they when they are together. BTW The BIOS settings are 100% the same.

Woah, you can't do 400 CL3 at 2.5v or 600 CL5 at 2.3v? You'd assume if it was very bad at low CL it would be good at high CL, but that is not good at either. That's not very good for D9 at all mate. How much did those sticks cost you?

When you get your Team & Cellshock, you will want to throw those Corsair sticks in the bin.

I paid $175 for them :eek: but they were half price and my other stick had died and I didn't have time to import Cellshocks etc. So I got them. They did do 1333MHz 5-5-4-15 W/ 2.58v. I know its not that great.

I'm going to run both kits at 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 W/ 2.03v for 24/7 :) and the Cellshocks are for benching and overclocking :D

Ok im running 4x1 xtreem team 1300s on gigabyte ep45-ds3r with a e8500. I have been playing with running my memory around 1300, processor at around 3.8, i have no problem getting there, but i cannot get rid of the errors in memtest86 test number 5, have tried everything just wont go away. I was thinking it was just to much speed on the ram, i have about a 480 fsb on the 400 strap, so i decided to try something i lowered the fsb to 410 on the 400 strap using higher multiplyer so i was running my ram at 1339 ,with a fsb of 401, and ran memtest again, passed no problem like 5 passes:shrug:. So my question is what do you think is causing the memory errors ? are the errors only affected by timings ? or is it a combanation of all things ?

Ok another thing is when i take 2 sticks out, and just leave 2 in, on the same settings 480fsb i can pass memtest no problems, so am i to asume my board dont like 4x1 ?. thanks for your help.

Did you try bumping up your northbridge voltage when running 4x1GB at 1300+?

Also, what divider were you on when you were running 1339? If it was the 3:5 divider on the 400 strap, it was not really at 1339. But yes, as said above, based on the fact you can run 2 sticks at the same settings error free, it sounds like your NB is the cause of the problems. However test both sets of sticks, one set may be not able to run that speed, but if both kits can do it alone, and not when running 4 x 1, it's your NB.

Ok my northbridge voltage is 1.59 which should be enough ?. I was running the 333.d divider when all 4 sticks passed at 1337. Cpuz reports the samething for memory speed on the 400 strap as the bios, so cpuz is wrong ?.


I know all 4 sticks are good cause it passes at 1337 with 410 , 401 fsb with the 333d divider. I will try to increase the northbridge voltage and see if that gets rid of the errors.:shrug:. I have tried the 333 strap, but that strap only lets me get high memory speed with no fsb, or high fsb no memory speed. I will report back going to run memtest again with more nb v. Thanks guys.

SPD-Z sucks donkey balls, use SPDTOOL ;) Best thing to do would be to take a spd dump from the good stick and put it on the "bad" stick using SPDTOOL.

Ok well now im on the 266 strap 500fsb 1250 on the memory 5-5-4-12 and it passes memtest86 no problem. Im getting 10,000 in everest, and 51.7 latency, thats a little high trying lowering my trfc. Just dont seem that fast, i would really like to be around 1300 on the memory, or i feel i got robbed on these sticks, i could have gotten sticks half the price of these that would put me where i am now. Well at least im stable and no errors , will try to push em more see what happens, thanks guys for all your help

your board wont let you go higher in everest
with dfi ut p35 you would see 11k+ @ those speeds
and with memory @ 1300 i get 12k in everest

So your saying there is no way i can pull 11k in everest with my board ? and why is that ? i have gotten as high as 10,800, im thinking of maybe getting a x38 or x48 board. So why wont my score go up, but it would on a p35 at same speeds ?

its tough on gigabut boards you get high clocks but performance suks
run @ higher fsb if you want more
n lower trfc try doin 1220-1250 trfc 28-34 500fsb+ +pl 7-8 333 or 266 divider
btw its not how high you clock memory its finding the sweetspot for 24/7
why bother with x38-48 unless you need 2x16 pci-e
i boxed my x38 caue it didnt like my e8600+ my utp35 if faster

Thats what im looking for is the sweet spot, i am on the 266 strap, trying to tighten up my timinings.

Well zsamz i left my fsb and timings and everything the same, and just switched over to the 333 strap, i dont see any difference, of course fsb, processor are running same, but memory speed 50mhz less, barely broke 10,000, so i think im about good as a GIGABUT board will do, i find hard to believe that if i was on a p35 dfi, my performance would be that much better, maybe so.

even the dfi ut p45 is as fast as the ut p35

DFI are NOT god. There are plenty of other boards that are far easier to get on with (note: much more stable and reliable) and offer performance that is not exactly off the pace with a DFI. I will never touch a DFI board ever again after the NF2 and NF4 hassles I had with DFI boards, POS wasn't even stable with stock settings. Throw the exact same hardware on any other manufacturers board though and no problems. Can't comment on a Gigabyte board as the last one I had used a VIA KT400 chipset :p: However I can vouch for Asus P45 boards (currently I got 9.5GB\s bandwidth with a measly 3.2GHz @ x8 400FSB) TPower, in spite of its horrible BIOS, and even the MSI P45 boards.

Can any one tell me which is likely to be best out of either CellShock PC2 8000 CAS4 (GKX) or Cellshock PC2 8500 Cas5 (GMH) looking at running 4x1GB DIMMS on my P5Q deluxe
