Oke I am for now done for cpu testing on day 2. Achieved 3.825Ghz[ 425x9] @ 1.376vcore. I got 2 pairs of ram to test now along with the cpu. I might could have lowered the FSBv [1.44v actual] and maybe the NBv[ 1.50v actual], Can I lower these? for 425x9?. I know My Ballistix could run 5-5-4-9 1167mhz @ 2.05v @ p5k deluxe. I want to use strap 400/(333 if possible) 1033mhz Any1 might guide helping to setup the settings for ram?

Oke This is the hardest part of testing. I know from the P5K deluxe, Enabling Dram static read control would give better performance ( according everest) then Transaction booster. I have no clue what I should choose from those 2. And AI clock twister does it effect any thing?
I got my q6600 to 3.5 with the crazy option in the bios. Now, how can i see all my bios option so i can tweak them manually? Some bios when set to auto show the current value but not this one.Any solutions?
I'm real fond of Everest Ultimate 2.40. Matches Coretemps readings exactly, works fine in Vista x64, outputs to a nice sidebar, and best of all, has a completely customizible LCD output that works great with a G15 keyboard's display, which lets me keep an eye on things when I'm actually using the PC to play games.
It also has a decent set of benchmarking and informational tools. The latest beta version supports ATI 38xx cards as well.
It's not free though, but it's well worth the $30 IMHO.

Only ran a quick 4 hour test but your settings are rock solid with ram 1200 and clock twister set to strong.
I have a :banana::banana::banana:ty VID of 1.325 so my volts are a tad high, but other than that is a great setup.

Oke I now this probleme has been adressed above curten volts prime wont use 99% of the cpu, but f.e. like 80% , this is mostly above 1.50v from what I have seen, However I got the bad luck that as soon I put any voltage above 1.4000, @ bios, so 1.40625 or higher Prime wont load 99% @ taskmanager, how come even at this low volts...... I just wanted to rest my cpu for Q6600 untill I stumped into this....
We're running the same settings for 24/7, and this is what has worked for me with my D9s (Team Xtreem PC2 6400 @ 2.24v, you may need less if your ram is rated higher)
4-4-4-10-2-25-3-3-7-3-5-4-6-4-6 (I'm on the 333 strap). I received some PMs about my timings, hope this helps. If you guys are interested, I will post my new bios settings, as I see many folks are pushing a lot of voltages where it isn't even necessary.
I got a very Frustrating problem, is regardless FSB I put, as soon I put in BIOS any value higher then 1.4000v Prime95 under Small FFts wont run 99%, but 87% and the rest goes to system. Could be the BIOS or I got a Dudd board :(?, I am on 0802. If I run Blend however it will 99%of the cpu usage assigned to Prime.....
I don't know why mine don't fit :s if i try to put waterblock like picture of "THE TERMINAL", waterblock touch with heatsink of heatpipe gray part :s where say "ASUS" and if i rotate it 90°C :s touch with heatsink of motfes up socket and heatsink of NB :S
Now i've done the mod, cut a litle of both side and now it fit :d
Please do.Quote:

Hi Everyone!
Following you will see my results with everything set on auto in the bios.
I would like to bump up the FSB to1600 and my mem to 3-3-3-10. So far I have been to chicken to do so, The CPU cost me 1000.00$, and I am afraid to kill it.
The Kingston specs for my mem are:
KHX6400D2ULK2/2G are 5-5-5-18@1.8v and 3-3-3-10@2.3-2.35v I am afraid because this board tends to overvolt.
Does anyone have any suggestions, I am new at OC.
http://http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...05/Results.jpg
Thank you in advance
I was able to lower my timings without having to up mem voltages.
http://http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...dResults-1.jpg
Still scared to up my FSB without help from you experts.
Your advice on bios setings would be heslfull, want to bump up to 1600 FSB.
hi, need some help setting up raid here, i have 2 raptor x hdd, when i set the sata mode as raid then i wont be able to see both drive after i save and exit from the bios, i try to press on Ctrl + I but i dont see the Intel Matrix Storage manager screen as well...is there something that i missed??
Warboy has the same error on the other thread
Ahh figured it out I think... :)
Don't feel bad, I have a B3 1.3125 VID. :)
That is the best my ram can do with 450x8. 1200mhz 5-5-5-12 SRC enabled, AI light, TB enabled Lvl0. I tried 4-4-4-15 and 5-5-5-10 but it doesn`t boot right.
I tested that settings with Memtest(pic) and came to about 500% coverage without any errors. Does sb. use Memtest, can I trust in or does OCCT "ram" find errors, Memtest doesn`t find? Should I trust Memtest and go on with reducing VCore for this settings, or would you test with OCCT to be sure?
Here is the pic:
http://www.abload.de/thumb/memtest0903450x81200381.pnghttp://www.abload.de/thumb/everestcachebench0907q6.png
hey espiso:) I would use memtest86+ 1.70 and then either OCCT or Prime blend for 24/7 tests.
Tested with OCCT "ram" over night to be sure and 10,5h without errors :)

Hey folks, new Q6600 and Maximus Formula owner here that could use a little help in overclocking this beast. I'm new to Intel overclocking being an old skool AMD guy so whatever advice you can give will be read, dissected, disseminated and read again ;-)
Ok, on to the good stuff.. Runnin a Q6600 G0. Don't know the L73x codes as I'm here at work but I have that info at home. Maximus Formula 1.03g mb. Ballistix PC8500 ram. Memory is set at DDR2-800 with auto timings of 5 5 5 18 as I was trying to rule out memory as a limiting factor.
I can't seem to go any faster then 3.6 ghz. When I do try to go faster I can boot to windows but OCCT crashes 5 seconds in with a "Code 1" error. Prime crashes immediately as well. Sometimes the crash will cause a reboot, sometimes it will not.

When referring to the cpu volts, are you talking just cpu or cpu + cpu pll? What utility can I use to read the cpu pll as Everest doesn't seem to show it?
I'll try upping the volts to see if I can go any faster.
I was planning on overclocking the ram but haven't gotten that far. As for the volts on it, I was under the assumption that 2.2volts was stock for Ballistix ram. I'll have to check that out as well.
Do all of my other settings look good?
Thanks!
When using OCCT I notice you can use the slider between CPU and RAM...I can't seem to do that, when I click on it, it just moves the whole thing...also I'm using Everest and when I select it under "Monitoring" it tells me "Shared Memory Disabled!"
Am I doing something wrong here? Thank you for any advise.
I would leave CPU PLL alone if anything its high.
I might have misread your ram volts I thought I saw 2.8 ( yes after looking I was um....wrong) your ram volts are fine
for 3.6GHz or higher I set CPU PLL to AUTO, you can check cpu pll in the bios
Tools>Hardware Monitor scroll down and you'll see it.
you need 1.2.0
Hi , i've got the Maximus Formula in my rig now , but me got problem ^^ :
I wanted to oc my Q6600 g0 , so tried setups of the forum here , tried my own , but no boot . 267*9 = no go . Tried everything : The voltmod , bios flashing 0907 , dividers on ram , container on it , nothing worked .
What the hell is the problem ? Can somebody help me ? :)
Grtz
Hey guys,
I currently have a dilemma with this board: Tight memory timings or high memory frequency. I have a set of 2 GB OCZ Alpha Titanium that
can do 750 MHz at 3-3-3-10 with 2.2 volts or 1080 MHz at 5-5-5-12 with 2.25 volts. What do you guys suggest?
Thank you sir, that got it!!!Quote:

Now the problem i have obv is my ram. I have it stable at DDR2-1146 pretty much but my Subtimings are pretty bad- I have it at 5-5-5-15-3-"52"
as you can see the 52 there is what i want to change- the options i get are 20,25,30,35,42- I cant even change it to 42 by upping volts to Vdimm or vNB i cant get it to work with trans boost to auto or disabled and clock twister to light or moderate and even dram static read to disabled- nothing...
I have no ideas what to do other than just leave it alone and roll with it- It kills bandwidth in 3dmark06 and sisosftware- My CPU mark in 3Dmark06 goes down by like 350-400 marks. But in realtime games- I lose only 1.3 FPS per sec in most game- which isnt that much. But Still it would be awesome if i could get it lower and have it stable. Here are my settings!

Is it necessary to remove the Formula SE's waterblock and apply with (f.ex.) AS5? I don't feel too comfortable taking it off, looks a bit tricky. Don't think I'm gonna watercooling it (yet).
Well, I think I'm going to stay at 3.6ghz on this chip. I got it up to 3.75 but didn't feel like pushing more then 1.5 volts through it.
What would be considered the safest max voltage for these chips?
As it stands I'm prime stable with small FFT's. 3.6ghz @ 1.44v.
Next up will be some memory tweaking.
i still have intermittent start up problems.
so far i am using the profile 1 setting for the ram. think this is causing the problem. what is a safe setting and voltage for the ram if i am not going to overclock it, pls?
should i run it at:
4-4-4-12 2t at 2 volts?
thanks in advance.
Ballistix is rated for 2.2v. Half your issue is undervolted RAM. Set yout RAM for 2.15 and this will yield you 2.25v as there is about a .10v overvolt on this board.
thanks. will give it a shot
I cant really understand this board with my Ballistix, They were Rock stable @ my P5K deluxe @ 1167 5-5-4-9 / 1200 5-5-5-12 @ 2.05v with Dram static read control Enabled. Now I cant even get 1133 ( 425x9) with same timings and even tried 5-5-5-15 up to 2.17v........still cant pass OCCT ( havent tried prime blend yet) but according to memtest86+ it was 14 hours stable @ 1133 5-5-4-9 @2.00v with both dram static enabled / transaction booster enabled/ clock twister...... I tried disabled all and put clock twister to light, even transaction relaxed to 1. still wont pass OCCT, even @ 850mhz 5-5-5-15 all disabled..... could it be MY default primary and secondary timings are to tight? They are: primary: 3-42-6-3 second: 8-3-5-4-6-4-6. Tried btw 0802/0903/0907(currently) all same prob

Could lower VCore a bit and tested with prime custom in-place fft 10h without an error.
A few days I tested 1,325V VCore with OCCT "CPU" and had an error next day from OCCT, but a small error-window, like the windows-error-windows, lol. The test itself ran on till I stopped it after 12hours and no stress-test error. But this OCCT-error (sth like wrong address in A777Fccx0, but don`t know excactly), what was that? Is it stable, or not!?
is anyone having problems with the pci-e land switching from 18x to 8x ??
here is my benching problem http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=171511
he means 16x/8x warboy, I don't think there's another option then PCI-Z speed in the bios I lock mine at 101... not sure if it's related

I can't get the bios to post past 440, no idea why. This will have to do for now, not too bad. I changed the ram to Patriot Extreme PC2-9600, more tweaking to do.
My cpu is watercooled, I have a 120mm on the ram and 90mm on the NB. Temps dont go above 41 on the nb and 48 on the core's.
Doesn't seem to work for me. tested 2.10v to 2.20v and I get memtest errors.
Turned off DRAM Static Read Control and disabled Transaction Booster to 0 and no more memtest errors. But once in a while the PC won't boot and will get stuck at det ram stage.
Everthing is at default setting:
4-4-4-12-3-42-6-3
8-3-54-6-4-6
Am starting to get really upset with this board. Sigh.
Should I increase the Northbridge voltage?
I don't know what kind of FSB u are running at but if you are running 425 fsb+ with high memory clocks, I would suggest to test with 1,55V to 1,6V until you get the stability you are looking for.
Personnally, at 450 fsb, I had to reach 1,6V NB to get my system stable... with 1,55V, I was sometimes getting memory errors even with my sticks at 2,24V and some games would hard-lock for no reasons... with 1,6V NB, I reached 8 hours P95 stable with my memory @ 2,1V :) I haven't tried lower than 2,1V but I will do tomorrow
Thanks for the info. fsb is 400.
The board has just gone wonky on me again. Even though i have gone back to my usual stable setting, it is giving memtest errors. Sigh.
Atomica it also might be your ram mate that has gone bad, don't always blame the board as many stuff is user related here... Can you verify the ram on another board to see if it works properly there ? and plz post ya settings here...
Use NB strap 400. Your DET DRAM getting stuck area will stop. I have the same issue, alond with many others, for some reason NB STRAP 400 seems to be the most stable. TRY IT! We have the same ram, same motherboard, I have been thru all these issues before, very anoying;) . Good board once you figure ouit all this crap.
NB STRAP 400
transaction booster ENABLED
Boost level "0"
DRAM statc read control - DISABLED
Dram Voltage 2.16V
Set those settings, and let me know.
same parts here, too, i run 400x9 (2900's, not 38xx's tho)
NB STRAP 333
transaction booster auto
Boost level n/a
DRAM statc read control - ENABLED
Dram Voltage 2.00V

Yep I cant even get even stable with downclocked 850 mhz 5-5-5-15mhz and it corrupted my OS, screen became light blue or pink some times, eventually I cant come into windows..... I am gonna switch to 2x2GB G.Skills, I think this board doesnt like the ballistix..... on the P5K deluxe my ballistix where flying, high speed + low volts required 24.7 stable....
i have a theory that older boards without dual-channel DIMM PWM had much higher drive strength to deal with issues reaching high clocks, and teh Maximus, with dual-channel PWM, does not need such high drives for the same speeds.
So, on your P5K, drive was high. This did a bit of damage to your DIMMs, and when plopped into the maximus, with it's lower drive, you DIMMs are unstable, due to the damage suffered from your other board.(similar to BH-5 burn-in, if you've been clocking that long)
If you still have the P5K, try the DIMMS on it again, if you can. I was presented with the same problem when moving from P5K to Maximus; Crucial quickly RMA'ed my sticks. My sticks were still good in P5K, but not Maximus. Second set was fine tho...but the bad set had spent alot of time on P5K and other boards, while the second was only on P5K for about 3 days...
Thanks for the info MC2K and Cadaveca
I am currently building a new Maximus Formula with a Q6600 slacr. I am also shooting for 9 x 400 and might just stick with that so thanks to Mc2k for documenting his build. My fans are not here yet for my Gemin2 cooler so I might get her fired up monday or Tuesday. I also have a brand new set of crucial ballsticks the pc8500. I hope Cadavecas story is right for everyone and my memory works. I will be reporting here my findings also.
Good luck to us all :D
np magica thats what this forum is for , well I gave up on the Ballistix and I switched to the 2x2GB G.Skills that are brand new. I thought it was easier to test this board with 2x1GB, but cadaveca theory could be right, the ballistix were used on the Black slots of the P5K Deluxe, the back slots were protentially yield better clocks, and probbly because of the Higher drive strenght. Well when I pop back into my p5K Deluxe, the ram is working without dropping a sweat. So either your theory is right or this board Simply dont play that well with my set of Ballistix. I am now looping memtest86+ with the G.sKills, I am just wondering how much MB I need to use @ prime Blend to stress the 4GB. default is 1750 MB , should I use 3500MB?
Sure newls1 ofc, I am now looping memtest86+, and still have to decide if I am gonna install Vista 64 or XP 64, i got both, But I am still not out, how much RAM should I put in use @ Prime Blend, default for 2GB= 1750MB, should I then do Custom then 3500MB? or is that 2 much....since the size is doubled.
@ 425x9, @400 strap, I can use only 850mhz or 1133, I doub that can be runned on this ram with 2.1v... on the other hand if I choose 333strap, and disable transaction booster it is bootable @ 1021mhz, Or I can test first @ 400x9 using the 400 strap for 1066 ( which is a sweet spot) , Or 450x8 fsb then 333strap 1081mhz.
just as an example of what the board is capable of with 4GB of ballistix with "low volts":

This was done with 2.1v bios(2.183 approx real, read from DIMM slot), giving me slightly over 10k in sandra tests.
So, either you are not giving your chipset enough voltage to hit those clocks, the divider timings are different on this board than P35(which is partially true, but not in such a way that I have found they affect clocks by more than a mhz or 2), or your ram is damaged, MC2K.
Compound that with it still working in the old board, sounds like you got some drive issues, to me. I'd be RMA'ing those sticks, unless you plan of keeping the P5K. Kepp in mind as well that secondary timings from P5K do not translate well over to X38...
can you post you bios settings for that? I just got these Crucial sticks and I'm used to OCing Corsair and OCZ which both need lots o' volts to stabalize. I'm especially interested in the RAM related settings on this board.
I also use ballistix 8500.I managed to run them 5-4-4-9 @ 2.0v in everest. But then i got this 47min error in prime95 blend test.Still working on it.
Some of you seem to use the 400 strap.I use the 333.400 just dont work for me.I dont know why but it doesnt even post.Transaction booster doesnt work either. No post for tras booster even at 333 strap.
I dont know if i do something wrong. If anyone has any idea about any of these problems i would be glad to hear
Iastudio, here's my settings for that screenshot. Passed Prime95 small FFT and blend 48 hrs, OCCT testing, game testing(basically every title out in last 6 months, except MoHA) Alos of note is that I set SB 1.5v to the same as cpu PLL volt, as in previous boards these voltages were linked, and it did seem to help with long-term stability testing. Also note that this is with an E6600, not a quad, so the chipset load is a bit light.

9x 475? is that right?
Another question, how much did you have to mess with the memory sub timings? Did auto work out for you or was it necissary to hard set all of them.
Thank for posting that. I look forward to OCing these sticks.
