im not sure i think its based on the imc on the chip. amd has alrdy stated in the past its not possible. and at one point i was mentioning to an amd employee i was thinking about getting another 2 sticks of 1066 ram so i could have 4gb and he said that the memory controller can't handle all 4 sticks.Quote:

i think the reason why they did that bios update was for stability. i doubt it changed performance in any way because i bet the ram is running at a faster speed than the controller can handle it but it doesn't harvest this power it just wastes it.Quote:

i was guessing the same but i really don't know what is going on. some sticks could be running at 1066 while others aren't, they could be running at 1066 but the cpu can't use all that power, idk its too hard to tell. i would try running them all at 1066 and then at 800 and see if there are any differences. then maybe even try them all at 1066 and then trying 2 at 1066. but this would require a benchmark that uses a very small amount of ram so the change from 4gb to 2gb doesn't affect it.Quote:

You mus thave Bios set to correct volts and if you clear Cmos youll have to install a nother brand to set the Voltage again . i ve tried numerouse sets to have the same thing happen. the ones that are the most stable are Micron based and still will not be detected unless Bios is 2.2v
Besides all that ... If you Bench Everst with 1066 and then swap the Ram for 800 while using Same Multi's and such you should see a Drop in performance. Especially if you are overclocking the NB..
1066mhz with lower latency or the same latency as 800mhz will perform much better than 800mhz . Every time ive ran 800 @ 5-5-5-15 then went to 1066 5-5-5-15 ive gained ,,speed ,, latency and bandwidth at same timing.
1066 mode or freqency is definatly working on this Mobo and CPU..What ive Noticed is that depending how you set the latency or timing depends on how you take advantage of this.
Same Clocks CPU/NB/HT and Ram MHZ,,onlything i changed is Unganged and Latency.
Ganged was the fastest to run ram with High Nb for me ,, Untill now. Once you can lower the Latency( Cas from 5 to 4 Unganged comes alive. This also means your Multi apps can run at thier Optimal. Bench marks will improve too.

I know if i use Ganged @ the same 4-4-4-15 it be even faster but may be unstable @ high NB Time wise. Im showing what you can do by upping the performance of Unganged which many times you can USE lower latency more than Ganged . Why is this ? You can now use the two IMC's,,see having the the Dual IMC instead of the single is a hidden bonus if you know how to tweak it. This actually helps to keep things stable too. Its nice that Phenom actually has two IMC's using 64bit and or Both Conbined (locked) as a single using 128bit. You mise well use both IMC's . Ganged just locks them to use two lanes instead of 4. 4lanes will allways be better you just need to know how to get on the freeway:D
Think of it this way .
128 dual channel 1xIMC = Two,,128bit lanes.
64bit dual channel 2xIMC =Four ,,64bit lanes.
If this was a freeway ,,id rather have four lanes vs two. More efficient,, thus four lanes are more than two lanes despite the bits. Both hadle the same amount of bits and four lanes will handle more apps running at the same time vs two lanes . Two lanes which will have to work twice as hard for the same info as four.
Thats the best i can descibe Gnaged vs unganged and why lowering latency in Unganged can improve the system more and while actually keeping the load down on the IMC's.

yea i am running the 2.1v dominators but they require 2.2v to run 1066 at stock timings. and they are the 2.1v version because it says it on the sticker. plus they are impossible to overclock. im gonna get some ocz platinum once i feel the price is right. newegg just jacked the price up another $11 today when i already felt it was too much.Quote:

how does everyone control their cpu fan with this board? i like to use my kaze master for the video card and all the case fans but for the cpu fan i use speedfan because i like the automatic control when the temps go up. only problem with this is that this mobo is so screwy that i have to run ai suite on startup and then click on the fan and then exit the program. unless i do that speedfan will not work. seems odd but yes thats how it works. does anyone know a way where i can control the fan speed using software without having to use ai suite? and another thing that bugs me is that i can't overclock or use cool and quiet because then ai suite won't open. my cpu cooler is a 3 pin cooler. any suggestions?
edit: so alright get this. i have been running a 4870 and a phenom 9600 for a long. time yes a phenom 9600 not even a black edition. i have suspected that this is a major bottleneck and so i finnally tried some testing. i ran 3d mark with stock gpu and cpu settings and got 11745. then i overclocked the gpu from 750 mhz to 790 mhz and got 11818. not much more but still within the margin of error. then i overclocked the vram as well from 900mhz to 1000mhz. being a 400 mhz effective clock. so i now have 790 core and 1000 ram as compared to stock 750 core and 900 ram. i ran it again and guess what i got? 11745 what i got on stock settings. i know for a fact that my gpu is overclocked during the tests based on what the gpuz log says but its just insane. so once i get my phenom II the change is going to be extreme. i also ran some far cry 2 tests with maxed settings xcept x4 AA instead of x8 at 1680x1050. got an average of 1.5 fps more with the clocks.

When I had my Zalman 9700 on my board I had a fan controller that came with it, I just used that...... maybe if you got a 3 to 4 pin connector for the cpu fan,, dont think it will work with just a 3 pinQuote:

If you're running 1066 MHz I'm surprised you can get CAS 4 - you shouldn't be able to.
If you're at 800 MHz then I don't know why you can't tighten them up to 4-4-4-12, that's what my XMS is running ... :shrug:
im running 1066 but as got voltage pointed out earlier if you run unganged you might be able to get lower timings. so i tried it but i got in there and i can't get lower timings because theres not even a setting for it. i guess it could be because i have my oc mode set to standard in bios instead of manual which limits some ocing.

i have this board and i could overcloced it with the 1203 bios really nice with one AM2 3800+ x2 with 2Gb ( 2x1 ) ram
and then when i put one kit of corsair dominator 2x2 8500 and enable the memory remap i couldn't boot to windows at all i was getting a BSOD with an error that says that the bios wasn't fully acpi compliant or something

for a 32bit OS windows won't show all 4gb. i got 4gb but it only shows 3.2gb. it reserves the other .8gb for other things like pci devices, etc. theres nothing you can do about it. and yea im not surprised that you can't oc those dominators much. i had 2 x 1gb of dominators and they were complete crap. they couldn't do anything. i had to set them to 2.2V just to get them to run 1066 at stock timings and it wasn't even stable. and they were rated for 2.1V. its just bad ram. now with my 4gb ocz platinum i haven't tried overclocking yet but i can run them at stock timings and 1066 100% stable at 1.96 volts.
no i had 64Bit Vista the 3.3Gb was recognized in the Bios with memory remap Disable not on the OS
with memory remap enable in the bios it recognizes 4GB but i get Bsod
the memories are fine and not defected for sure...
and they can oc @ 1100+ tested on an Abit Ip 35 Pro and i know what voltage they want for every Mhz
the problem is not that i cant overclock the mems but that i cant overclock the board at all even if i set the timmigns 5-5-5-15 @ 800Mhz at any voltage it gives me no post
so as the mems are fine and they can overclock and they are tested with the latest bios i cant even set the vcore at default whatever i tweak it gives me just a no post :S even whit 2x1 Gb ( Gskill D9GCT ) as before with the 1203 Bios now with the 1406 i cant overclock the board at all :( it's even hard to run at default and it is not a flashing problem i reflash the bios again and again to make sure of it

I have some problem with my ht-link speed, it is allways the same as ddr ram speed in my case, is this normal or... should i have ht link speed on auto or 1ghz.

I have windows vista ulitimate 32-bit (sp1), i have my comp for gaming and i wanna know which are the best settings for it.
no it is normal is the divider you are using ram/cpu and your HT same thing is happed when you lock the HT @ 800Mhz in the bios and using the cpu/5 divider
Does dual channel work with 3x 1gb ram or u must have in all 4 slots (or 2 slots) ?... because in oldest deluxe mohterboards... i think it was unavaliable.

But you'd screw yourself out of the dual channel option. Not necessarily bad on a Phenom but killer on a K8 ...Quote:

set your fsb(reference speed) to 271. lower your ht and northbridge to a x8 multiplier and set the ram into a 1:2 divider or it will say 1084 after you set the reference speed. change the cpu volts to 1.312 and im not sure what he used for the other volts. you would most likely be better off trying it on your own because a 9600 would be hard to hit 3.1ghz and yours might not get it. but you have a black edition so you can also use all of the multipliers to overclock instead of using just the reference speed.
i just ran native specialist and it shows me the same HD9850WCJ4BGH but the only thing i can find regarding that opn says 95w but none say black edition like the other opn :shrug: now im curious about this opn if all the 9850's show it in native specialist or just someQuote:

with these new phenom II's it shouldn't matter as much if u have a sb600 vs a sb750, compared with phenom I's ???
be interesting to see some overclock trial benchs comparing SB chips
yea from what i have seen so far ACC does nothing. it might in the future with a bios update but right now it doesn't make a difference.
