You let loose the grip of your money and give it a new eggs... may you receive intel cpus in return

HAHAHAHAHA
I'm thinking that I have to do something, but consumer grade stuff isn't really doing it for me , I need some multi socket boards. All I need is a business excuse to pull the trigger. I'm working on it
UnG:
I am sure you have favored vendors for your biz stuff, but just in case you don't, I thought I'd mentiont that I am pretty happy with silicon mechanics. They have a pretty user friendly website and node configurator (with power estimator!) and pretty respectable prices for multi socket machines.
Not trying to be a traitor, but I think I changed the quad back to 62, still doing Dimes for XS though. It's hard, but I think they need the points more then XS, XS is already climbing up something FM hasn't had in a long while ( overtaking 'dead' teams doesn't count ).
Not that they will skyrocket with my low production, but if it's where my hearth lies I should put my hands to work at it to if you know what I mean...
But yeah, I wouldn't mind some advertising in the way you described, doesn't matter which team. I'm hoping they will support their own team though, would make more sence don't you agree :p:
Well there were some really sweet WUs coming through for the single cores... those seem to have stopped though so I'm back on getting about 600PPD out of all the single cores vs that whopping 1400PPD from last week. I knew it wouldn't last long though....
Darn I need another multi-core machine! Would love to keep my old opteron crunching away but to afford my upgrade I have to sell it :( Too bad I can't keep this quadFX setup from my friend too as a cruncher but I have to sell it for him as well.
Alright Sparky and 2long4u, you guys got some new compitition. I'm finally on the top 20 board. Woot!
 so I see, pretty well up there too!
must....resist....urge....to....buy....parts...... !!
It's OK Spark q6600 down to 220ish in march. I've been buying a couple basic mobos and RAM waiting for chips. ;) There's more'n one way to skin a cat. Uh, sorry kitty.
April we're going to see some cheaper quads for AMDell as well. hehehehe.
I'm having the hardest time resisting a Q6600 from MicroCenter, only $199. I can get the GA-G31 board for around $70 shipped, $40 for some cheapo RAM... I got an extra HD and power supply.... Arrrrghhhhh so tempting..
cripes I wish they were that cheap here. They just aren't.
Oh well, I tried to get one but not in stock. Dang...
I should just OC my system first, see how far that gets me.... I just haven't had the time to do it.
Hey Barnacle! Did you get new hardware? How is your ppd so high?:cussing: :lsfight:
Nope, never got the new quad :(. My Q6600 is putting out about 4200ppd and my laptop is around 1000pdd. I haven't rebooted either over the last week so things have been pretty consistant.
But that other quad is still calling my name. I might get access to a 780i MB, and if that pans out I'll pick up another G0.
How come your quad is that high? Mine is only good for 3520.:(
What is your quad clocked at? Mine is at 3.6Ghz.
I have 2 smp clients running and they average about 20 hours to finish a WU each. So while they usually get 3520 per day, occasionally they's get 2 in and I'll have a 7040 day. My laptop gets a 1760 point WU in every 40 hours or so.
I'm going to be moving some hardware around, getting rid of my last AMD rig :(, so my points will drop for a few days. Should be back to full steam by Monday.
GO for a quad  ...but mine is doing slightly over 4500PPD@3.6GHz
 Two instances, right... with Affinity Changer and dedicated folding ?
EDIT: Sorry about this Sparky but you're going to be toasted really soon.
Yeah, nice job Barnacle! :wtf:
I dont have a microcenter around here, so missed out on the $199 deal, but I keep hearing that once the new 45nm quads a broadly available, the prices should fall on the Q66. Then I'll jump on it for my dedicated cruncher.
I might should ask the guys over in the datacenter where I work if they have any old server mobos laying around...
I just got a mobo for my old PD and 2Gb RAM. The mobo supports quads too(8 days till my b-day! :D).;)
One of my quads has been down for upgrades and my AMD x2 will down in a few days for upgrades too. I'm looking to push 10k+ PPD. :D
Mine is at 3.0 until I get better cooling.:(
Thats it, I'm gonna make getting another chip and having my work pc run smp a priority. If I can do it under 5 days you will never catch me Barnacle! HA ha ha ha!!!
Don't go thinking I will just let you go without a fight :lsfight: :D
I changed some settings with my computer, but I'm not sure if it'll actually make anything faster... I went from 9x400fsb to 8x450fsb and then tightened some of the RAM timings a little bit. I can't seem to get much above 3.6 on my Q6600 though, which is a little disappointing because my load temps are only around 49C as reported in Everest.
I'll let you guys know if these changes effect my productivity at all.
Wtf!!!!!! Ugh!!
Attachment 73945
Okay Barnacle, I'll give it to you for now. :(
Ah man, 2long, that really stinks. I think my estimated overtake for you has been 4 days for the last 1.5 weeks. If you get that client at work figured out I don't think you'll have too much of an issue rebounding.
:wtf:
lol, somehow I had windows setup to automatically check for updates and install them. I think the latest one also automagically rebooted my system without asking and I lost some WUs. That crap is turned off now...
same thing happened to me while I was out of town. got my SMP client all hosed up. Lost a WU, and about 3 days of production. :brick:
good...i mean . .uh, oh that sucks! (now you won't pass me as quickly)
Uh oh... I just called microcenter and they told me they have the q6600 in stock. I feel my wallet getting lighter already.
Got the new G0 ($199) and a GA-G31MX-S2 ($76). I took out 4 of the 8GB I had in my primary system (I wasn't using over 4GB anyways), an old 40GB laptop hard drive, a Scythe Infinity that was sitting around, and the Case/PSU from my Athlon64 system. Hopefully I can find some time to put it all together and have it crunching in the next couple of days. I'm interested to see what kind of OC this little economy biuld will do.
Nooooooo! I opened the MB box and there was an Asus board in there. Model P5GC-MX, piece of CRAP doesn't even support quads! I forgot why no one should ever shop at Fry's Electronics.
I almost didn't even realize it, I had already started plugging components in and everything.
Oh no guys... we need all the cpus... team stats are taking a nose dive
I see that, what gives?
My best folder is down atm too :( Pulled the network cable & stopped the client while it was uploading & I was playing online - when I restarted the client it complained 'cos its client expired 2nd Feb... but Stanford's link to the new Linux SMP client is dead - and the link is apparently to the 6.00beta1 which is out of date anyway. Hopefully I'll get time to sort it later, or I might do it when my new project gets underway, the components of which are currently on order ;)
Well next week is spring break so all my systems are shutting down :(
This also includes my main rig because my DFI 790FX-M2RS I got for my phenom doesn't work right. Therefore, expect to see close to 0 points all next week. I'll have something running as I need a computer but whether or not it is something I can fold on I don't know (if I borrow my dad's old laptop I don't think its cooling is up to the task).
I have some parts from a friend's PC I'm selling for him but i haven't gotten them posted yet. Asus L1N64-SLI WS, dual FX-70s, 4GB RAM.... maybe I could set that up for temporary use...hmm....
Dual cpu board sounds nice, Movieman would be proud 'm sure :d
Ask your friend though ;)
You know him the best offcourse, your call ;)
Don't make me drewl to much, still on 2 17'' crt's here :sofa:
Good news, I remembered I still had my old opteron 165, asus A8R32-MVP, and 2GB DDR here. I have technically sold the CPU and RAM but I haven't been home to deliver them, plus I haven't gotten paid for them yet either, so I do have the use of them. So currently I am back on my trusty old opteron and I installed windows vista 64 bit trial on my spare HD to use for the week. What better time to see if I like vista or not :)
OK sc00p you passed me, happy now? :p:
As of right now all my crunchers are shut down, and won't be back up until the 23rd. I will have my temporary PC running so at least I won't be totally pointless.
Vista x64 is giving me issues on it though, not directly folding but just general windows stuttering which I'm sure slows down the SMP client a bit. I did notice though that regardless of how I shut down the SMP client (ctrl + C or just a windows shutdown) it would always start where it left off. I guess the SMP just likes me
OK, i've got some stability back now and pushing hard to help the team although with Sparky down for a week that's gonna hurt!
LETS GO TEAM - PASS DA PIMPS! :shoot: :pimp:
Well I was disappointed in my production because I have a couple rigs down so I went ahead and bought another q6600.
I have no willpower...:(
But thats great for the team I guess!:yepp:
 Don't cut your wrists open  I really worked hard to overtake you and I had technical advantage.
I'm sorry of all of your mishapps. You've had lots of bad luck this winter :(
Have a great Spring "Break"
Yes. Lets :frag: them! Mr. Pande is on my sight too :hump: :wth:
 :moon: You really thought that you couldn't overtake me fast enough :shakes:
Nah, just kidding. Great move, I wish I could obey your lead
Great news. These wonderful news just keep coming.
:wtf: each&everyone :wtf:
OK, I took the bogus MB back to Fry's, they gave me a refund and I ordered the GA-G31 off of newegg. So I should have a second quad up and running next week sometime.
You ROCK! :rocker:
wow ok this is a tad annoying. I went to work yesterday and was there for 24 hours! Come back and apparently I have to log into the internet all the time, and when I restarted the SMP from hanging it thought it had uploaded the 100% completed WU and downloaded a new one without ever really uploading the first one :(
thanks sc00p, it worked! Found the unit sitting in a corner on my HD all forlorn and it sent it on its way. Thanks
Sparky I noticed you slipped off the top 20. Anything we can do to help?
Yeah ship a couple quads my way
Take a peek at my sig, main rig is down due to a mobo failure, so I'm back on my opteron 165 instead of my phenom, and that is the only system running right now. I couldn't keep the army running over spring break so for this week everything is turned off (though I noticed some random WU came in today... maybe my dad turned the client back on at home).
Well we bought my daughter a new computer case for her birthday so I have an extra case. I will put my old system in it for a folding rig. :D
EDIT: she got the new xaser. I'm jealous!
Congrats Barnacle for crossing into the team top-50!
Nice work, my man.
:wtf:
Thanks, though it looks like it's going to get a lot harder to move up from here...
It is very nice to see you Barnacle, coo-coo-clocker and 2long4u cheering up each other and racing within team.
Keep it going guys :wtf:
LU0P10's ppd will take notable dent, sc00p will be mad...
...all good... no worries guys.
I'm getting a lot of new work units that aren't nearly as effecient as 2653 for ppd.
Yup, steady diet of 3051 and 3052 wu's for me also. Drops my ppd from almost 9000 to 6700 :(
Now I just need to convince the wife that she needs a quad!!!lol
coo-coo, how come you close out so many wu's? My quad closes 2 smp's per day.
I mixed cheetah blood in with the thermal paste...
Oh wow your from Africa? lol
Alright guys, looks like some of you might passs me up again. I stopped folding on my laptop because it was just running too hot and I need to use it for school. I also backed off the OC on my quad from 3.6 to 3.2 due to some minor stability issues. Result: my ppd is way down.
My second q6600 rig is getting closer to operational though. It would be up already but my old PSU turns out not to be compatible... go figure.
What is your old PSU?
one of these would aid in your laptop cooling
I got some more parts for my girls new Q6600 rig today. I'm still deciding on a mobo for her but I think I narrowed it down.
Anyhow, I'll get some pics of her stuff to show you guys, its hilarious! My friends were laughing at her case/kb/mouse(all pink) but once they figured out what was gonna be inside the laughing stopped pretty quickly.:D
I'm still having probs with one of the quads on Vista, I really think I'm gonna install XP64 on that rig too. I'm soooo fed up with Vista!
Just read the news and thats great! Hopefully it'll fix my probs with Vista/F@H.
I'm thinking of picking up a GB P35 board as they are pretty cheap. Heres some pics of the stuff I got now.
Her rig will consist of Q6600, Gemini II, GSkill 4Gb PC2 8000, Antec 550w, X1950xt w/HR-o3. :yepp: :yepp:
How sexy :p: Now I want pink pc too. It would be a hit at LANs  :D
Great stuff, Twiggy :D
Hey Barnacle look at our lines! :D Oh and Coo coo is going to kill us!
Haha! BestBuy was having a sale and I picked up a case with a 80plus 500W PSU for 19.99. Quad #2 is alive folks! The VID on this baby is 1.225, right now I'm running it at 3.3Ghz on only 1.18 after vdrop/vdroop.
Hopefully I will complete testing today and have it crunching by tonight.
I keep hearing about the VID on the quads - you mean it isn't the same for all the Q6600 G0 chips? Let me guess, lower VID = better OC right? Or at least less voltage to get the same OC?
Quad_2 is crunching... I'm on the hunt again :D
This chip has potential to be a great overclocker. I'm very much limited my by mobo. I will probably swap it with the one in my main rig when I get a chance and see what it will do with some water cooling.
Or atleast have lower temps
I don't post much here in this thread, it's looking like I can make it into top 30 this year but to many people with more hardware crunching. And I refuse to run dual smp atm, I rather have the quickest turn around time possible for my wu's.
Still enjoying the thread, and the people.
Happy folding all :)
Hey Barnacle, San Jose is close to me. I'm gonna come to ur house and kill ur power. lol jk
I knew my lead wouldn't last...
This dog of a chip I got is like dead frankenstein. I gotta light it up with some killer volts to get it to dance for me :lol2:
http://www.donaldsensing.com/Pix/050...alive-fstn.jpg
My old PSU it was a 430 watter that came with the original Antec Sonata. It only had a 20 pin MB connector. It's not a big deal, I guess I'll just put my Athlon64 back in it, use it as a print server and let it crunch too.
Hmm I may pick up one of those laptop coolers, it actually looks pretty nice. On a side note, does anyone know how folding handles going into suspend or hibernation? If I've got my notebook with me during the day I usually open and close it failry often. Maybe it would be better to just leave FaH off during the days I'm using it on the go and then let it work when it's at home on the desk...
As we enter into the [xs] top 50....it's barnacle,
no, it's coo-coo... now it's barnacle by a nose,
THEY'RE NECK AND NECK....
coo-coo and barnacle...coo-coo and barnacle....
it's gonna be a close one ladies and gentlemen!
:D :wtf: :D
Three Musketeers :fight: ... I bet :nuts:_cer would like if I was naming you The_Knights_Who_Say_Ni! but that could almost sub-promote rival team
 great pics you post always :ROTF:
Woke up this morning to one of my folders locked up :( I figured it was probably a memory stick gone bad, (has happened too many times) but it's not that. This quad has been running 9x400 @ 1.35v for a couple of months now without issue. Now it wont even boot at those settings. I have had to clock it all the down to 3.3 to get it stable again. I will try a few things this weekend and see if I can get back to 3.6, but for few days anyway, looks like I'll have just one quad folding.
It's the CLOSET O' CRUNCHIN
Wait! With an amazing comeback it's barnacle then coo-coo! This is a race for the history books folks! :D
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...&teamnum=36362
Got a laptop today!
It is a Toshiba Satellite something. It's pretty nice, dual core intel, nvidia 8700gt.
One question. How do you install smp on vista? When I start the .bat file it fails to log on.
