Sorry for the delay in answering your email; we've been extremely busy lately. We currently are working on a product that uses the Winbond UTT chips. I may take a while to launch a product that uses those chips (a few weeks), if we release the product at all. Extensive testing is required to decide what speed and latencies we can spec the modules at and compare that with the pass percentage.

You just know there are companies out there who are pis$ed that TwinMOS is selling 256Mb "Winbond" sticks for under $40 and 512Mb "Winbond" sticks for under $80. :D

yea these things are dirt cheap you can test them find their max before they blow up, then buy new ones or better quality VX.

for that money i could buy Vx at excaliber shipped, but they are not in stock now... :(

No he's where he belongs. A very old and respected member here, just because he don't search for the cheap stuff don't mean he don't know what he's doing.

I agree with him, your getting what you paid for. $37 for a 256mb stick of ram that may or may not do what OCZ VX does.

On a side note, I picked up a 256mb stick to play with. I have no intentions of it doing 260mhz 1T 2-2-2-6, but who knows maybe i'll get a good one. If not i'll just sell it for less than I paid.

I don't think we need to jump down anyone's throats. We all have predisposed notions about certain things, whether computer related or not. I think these modules, along with the Kingston, OCZ, Mushkin, Geil and Corsair...just to name a few, offer us great opportunities and fun. Those that want to play...will and those that don't..can just watch.

I do think that if all you want to do is watch, then by all means watch, but without actual first hand experience (specifically with these ICs/modules) you might want to do less judging on their merits and be less critical of the efforts and motives of the others that are playing.

i also have an old (eg 2-3 years) stick of twinmoss. and ive always suspected it of being BH-X.

the way it would run 2-2-2-5 at huge speeds kinda gve it away, coupled with its love for volts, and lack of burning up.

has 2 holes i the middle, and 4 little half moons at edges.

my guess - twinmoss found some more stock of bh5, did a little rebadging, and let it loose. they got a HUGE boost in sales when winbond on twinmoss was available, from people buying for the W. now they do it again. clever people :)

hmm, checking on the newegg page for the 512mb sticks, says ETA is 1/20/05... which is today... i know it used to say 1/22/05... interesting...

so to inform you, its winbond UTT, untested chips, maybe based on CH-5 die,
anyways, winbond is producing these now, and they are not only found on twinmos but many other brands of memory as well (ocz for one.)

Overclocking has always been about bang for buck; back in the early days we didn’t have companies that would 'specialise' in certain products.
Now we do, I don't see it as a bad thing, but do pls rem that they do what we have all been doing in this thread. Hit & miss, isolate product. Then the recover their costs (plus a good healthy margin to buffer RMA's) by releasing it.
Yes it does take the guess work out of something’s, yes it does make it ' it does what it says but I feel we have 2 types of OC'r.
Passive & active. I don’t go jumping into threads with 'man why have you purchased that, what a crock of Crp that is, you should just buy X product for Y reason.'
But we active OCers that waste our time were the backbone of most overclocking stores. Who needs who now?
Same theme different ideas. I don’t feel on the wrong or right side. I just choose to play, mod, tinker and probably ultimately kill my hardware, probably the same as some Passive OCers do.

The fact that we are choosing to play, knowing it has its risks sums up pretty much what I was trying to say. There is no right or wrong way to do it, its just a matter of each person choosing the way they want to do it.

I like playing with it and just trying to get the best out of what I've got, whether or not it is the best that is available. After all, it is a hobby we are talking about here.

M209J16A-TT PC-3200. I assume the dash means it's a no go b/c 4 = winbond or is should a letter be there?

That coding is not on the modules or the ICs is it? The one you are displaying appears to be a vendor's generic description. The AA4T that you are looking for is on the paper sticker/label found on the modules on the end opposit the TwinMOS Speed Premium label. The non-Winbond label shows a code ending in AADT, notice the "4" vs the "D".

The winbond modules will also have a digit "4" following the manufacturing date such as 04464 vs 0446D.

If you re-read my original posts you'll see the next thing for me to drool over is faster memory than bh5 / VX is at present and of course this just matches it, at cheaper cost but higher risk. That's all I said, no less, no more.

Unless you have no memory at present or are heavily into benching, rather than overclocking, then I see little point in spending extra money $$ getting memory that will do 2-2-2-5 rather than 2.5-3-3-7 , you are better putting that money to a video card or cpu, because I doubt you will notice $$ difference in game X or application Y.

I do realise though that not going with the crowd I might be laughed at, but the fear of that is not enough to stop me saying what I feel :)

Anyhow, I'll bugger off now and moan about the weather and young people to my mate Grandpa Simpson ....
