** Official ** Gigabyte UD3 P45 Series -- EP45-UD3 / EP45-UD3R / EP45-UD3P

Been messin with this board after the bios upgrade which was great and solved my loop reboot and my x- fi fatality hiccups brought down to perf 8 and damn she snappie my everest score increased to 58.ms :) so next i tried to overclock to 4500 and i lowered back down to perf 9 and 5 5 5 18 crashhh , tested ram alone up to 1000mhz with a 8 x 500 she acted ok ...latency also went down to 56.2 ms but why can I raise cpu speed ? cooling is very good so is power supply im lost

Yea it works, windows wants a digitally signed driver so the easiest way to get around it is press F8 just before windows starts to boot. It will give you a list of options, choose "disable driver signature enforcement", this is just a quick work around so it wont be permanent. My temps dont even register anymore, even with very high voltage, so I dont use it since it only starts to show readings above about 46C.

hey Hoss331 nice temps and voltages dude , 1.36 v and your running at 4.5 damnnnnn can you help me with my settings again ive been on this all day up and down and yes at 4.0 i have tight timmings and nice latency but with these p i pc 7200 i should be able to do a nice 1000 or more at 5 5 5 15 , just cant figure out why im crashing

just quickly tried 465fsb 1.24 vtt, 1.24 mch 0.8 mch ref, locked up just 20 seconds into orthos blend :( 460 fsb is at least 10 minutes orthos stable 1.2 mch, vtt and mch ref both stock 1.2 and 0.76 respectively. i get the feeling this board doesnt have much more in it since its a ud3lr not ud3p. but hwbot shows its possible to bench with the ud3lr and a quad at 510-520fsb so who knows :shrug: any other setting besides voltages that can have a significant effect on max fsb? already have performance level set to 9 in bios so loosening that further wont help i think. i suppose i could try 1.3 mch and 1.3 vtt but im not expecting miracles.

It came up with an error less than a minute into orthos, plus it was paging almost constantly. thats odd, since it usually locks up if its a fsb limit. could it be my ram ran into its limit and needs cas6, possibly even 6-6-6-18?

RAMMAN, try better cooling on the NB first.

Your RAM doesn't need CAS 6, no way it needs it at 570MHz.

dont forget its rated for 600mhz 6-6-6-18 2.2v, its already at 570mhz 5-6-5-15 2.2v. btw it only got up to 520mhz 5-5-5-15 before it errored in orthos. keep in mind these are hynix chips according to an ocz rep in a different thread, not psc which will easily do 600mhz+ 5-5-5-15.

That's not good.... Then go for CL6, though I still think NB temps are limiting you.

Yea I dont use the program enough to bother setting it to work all the time, just used it to check the temps a couple times. After the NB block was installed I tried up to 1.7s mch voltage and it didnt get hot enough to register anymore, so I havent used it since. :up: The older versions show the mch temp with a C, not sure why the newer one shows temps with %.

Do you have something in the other PCI-E slot? That will make the link width go to 8x. And do you have the videocard inserted in the 1st (top) PCI-E slot?

I have a card in both. Shouldn't they be 16x each?

No, only X38/X48 has 16x/16x, P35/P45 does only have 8x/8x when both slots are occupied.

i think cas 6 will stabilize it at 465-475, but i think anything beyond that is brick wall territory.

I finally got memory stable at DDR3 1333 (stock!). The problem was the ocz mem (or all DDR3 on this board?) doesnt like volts at all. I think hoss posted similiar few pages back. I couldnt get mine stable at rated 1.8v so after much :brick: i lowered to 1.78 then stable at 1.76. Now i can oc it and hopefully get 1600 stable. Also gonna try for 4.5 but think my cooling might limit me as am hitting 74 on IBT.

I know on my old opteron/dfinf4, I had to test the CPU at the multi and voltage it would be during c&q mode in order to guarantee stability if under mild load. Is the step down in voltage with C1E/EIST enabled at any risk of going too low whilst running at 6x multi with high fsb? What did you use to test it?

Guys I never used the blocks... I ended up selling them all.

All I use in the mosfet area are Fans. One on top of each mosfet area.

For stability above 4.5Ghz:
- Q9650 below 65oC;
- Right amount of memory tweaking (not too tight not to lose);
- NB below 70oC.

With the cpu I have trouble getting below 70°C during p95 8k on the first core. the other 3 are sitting comfortably at 65°C at up to 1.4375v.
The 4th (weakest) core seems to increase in stability between 1.40-1.4125 and lasts around 10 tests during 8k at 1.4125, but it still fails, and gets worse when I go over that voltage. I know there's a fine line between temps/voltages here, but as the 4th core isn't too hot, this is the reason I'm starting to suspect the mosfets. But then it's a bit of a risk to splash out on some blocks if it's not going to help much more, and I'm simply reaching the cpu's limit.

It does have reference voltage. Its not something i considered! I have been leaving it on auto when going for a 1600 oc on ddr3 1333. Should it typically be raised above or below auto?

the DDR reference voltages should be half of the memory volts. I would start from there and work your way up or down :)

Perhaps skews are worth a try at those speeds too, they only had an effect when I was pushig my DDR2 beyond 1300, but in your case it might be more crucial :)

Does it step down voltage with EIST on? I thought it just lowered multi on the cpu when loads are low. Cpuz reports the voltage slightly higher (vdroop) when it is at x6 idleing as when at full load.

The P and R T boards do have ref voltages, more than the ddr2 boards, but the LRs do not. So far the only one that seems to be of benefit is DRAM Term. when on 4.00B above 450fsb.

I see, good to know, thanks for the reply. I see you've got a 'voltage II' tab as well - nice :). The ram refs seem to have minimal effect on stability, although when I ran my reapers over 2.1v, the values did benefit from a notch above 0.5xvdimm, and that got me 1295MHz memtest #5 - 1 hour stable (plus a few passes of full test). As for the skews, on the MIIF, tuning the skews with one stick at a time in its own slot, and pushed to the limit was the best way to do it (and relaxed PL). Both sticks together makes it harder. Some settings will not boot at all, others will give you more stability, much like the CPU/NB skews.

The NH-U12P is great, some chips run hotter than others though, usually lower VID chips will run hot, I had a 1.165V VID chip once that ran hotter than the sun.

I am only using a Scythe Mine 100mm cooler that I picked up used for 10 quid :) Temps are not a problem as you can see, ambient is 20C. Also I don't usually use IBT because it heats the chip up so damned much, it's quite unrealistic IMO. I might do an IBT run later on to get in that 4.5GHz LinX stable club though :)

I didnt know VID was a factor with heat. I thought all chips would give the same temps at a given Vcore no matter what the VID? So lower VID=better oc but more heat? I had a mates E5200 at 4Ghz in my machine and it never passed 55@full load with the the NH-U12P now that i think of it. Maybe my E8400 is just a scorchio chip! It has a 1.175 VID btw. Agreed IBT does kick things up to a new level but ive had chips run small fft's for 24hrs+ and need a small vcore bump to get 25IBT passes without errors. I am open to the idea that IBT is so unrealistic as to be unneccesary though.

In my experience chips with lower VID run hotter and OC well. Chips with higher VIDs usually run much cooler but are not necessarily bad clockers (my current chip as an example).

1.175V is a good VID, I would keep pushing for 4.4GHz or maybe 4.5GHz :)

I See! Learning something new here everyday, literally!
I can get small ffts stable at 4.4 with 1.248@CPU-Z (llc disabled) but temps are borderline at 75. 4.5 seems to need two notches of vcore higher (at least) and temps hit 78 so i havent primed that for more than couple of minutes. Have tried AS5 instead of the noctua compound but temps jumped 5c at load so im just gonna stick with 4.25 for now and start reading up on watercooling!!

Well I'm usually fine with low 80s for prime as normal system use the temps won't get quite as high. Watercooling is nice though as you really don't have to worry about temps much at all. I sold my WC setup over the summer and miss it :(

Mine's a 1.2 vid and I've hit 5GHz with it. Easily stable at 4.5 too. WC setup is more than likely to be needed for those kind of speeds though, particularly once you go over 1.35v on air.

I still think you MCH ref might be 1 or 2 steps too low. It would be great if you could get your PL down to 8 or 9.:up: And your right more volts isn't always the answer. On my DDR3 setup more volts made unstable; less made stable, especially with the RAM. I always keep a voltage monitor program open so I can see what under/over volts from BIOS settings.

Its good to see this thread still going. Makes me want to go back to S775 and have some more fun. It would be fun to try on a DDR3 board where you aren't limited to 1.65vDimm.

Theres nothing really in the voltage II tab, it just pops up if you happen to scroll over that area. :up:

I have mch ref set to .71 in Bios, does it always read lower in ET? I got PL stable at 9 overnight, 8 failed but am going to try MCH changes and see if i can get it. Have more xilence 120mm fans on the way, so hopefully thatl sort temps and allow for 4.5 :)

Hi guys,

I just got my new x3370.

Trying to make to work but i've no chance. Something wrong with my bios settings? Everytime I change the "CPU Host Control" from disable to enable and leave the CPU Host Frequency to 333 (or whatever else), my ep45-ud3 refuse to boot (restart with defaults and claim an overclock issue).

Any Idea how should I set the bios for this x3370?

ET shows the value when VTT is at 1.20 in BIOS. So .68v MCH ref when set at 1.20 VTT in BIOS will show .68 in ET. If you raise VTT to 1.24 in BIOS then you MCH will scale automatically with it and show .71 in BIOS and still show .68 in ET. So you need to set MCH ref to .70 or .72 when you VTT is at 1.20 before rasing it back up to 1.24.

Just got a free upgrade to a brand new Q9550 from my old Q9400
and i can see it does 4.0 a lot easier than even my last one on this board..

although i gotta say there appear to be boot issues with this particular UD3R, almost like it doesn't wanna boot unless you set EXACTLY the right settings, took 25 tries once and had to remove the CMOS battery and even then....

Gonna give it's little brother the EP45 UD3L a try this afternoon....either way it's good to have a back up board...
and the 12 mb of cache doesn't hurt either....

Just got my RMA cheque from my dominator GT DDR2 modules at long last, so a set of trident 1200's are on the cards so I can finally acheive my goal of 4.5/ddr1200, and will hopefully be able to aim a higher for some more benching.

One thing I found is that 499x9 seems a load easier to stabilise than 500, and with nearly 0.2vcore less, has anyone else experienced this?

Finally settled on my 24/7 clock....got a nice balance between CPU freq., vcore, and memory performance :)

Ok So i been having problems with my EP45-UD3P freezing up or powering off and even just going to a black screen. It was mainly when i tried to use over 1.30 vcore but now its gotten worse and does it with less things iv tried are below im out of ideas no one iv asked has had much of a idea of what could be causing it. Also on both boards i get a sound coming from around the cpu socket.

3 CPU's= E6600, Q6600, Q6600
2 rams sets= OCZ FLEX2 pc9200 2x2, some 1x1 pc6400
2 PSU= seasonic 850w, toughpower 680w
2 motherboards=EP45-UD3P p35 bloodiron
3 videocards= asus 5870, evga 8800gt, evga 8800gt

some proof that the UD3L ep45 can pull it's weight like it's bigger brother
haven't tried 500 yet, but all the settings are there - minus some references and fine pll control

4.0 was even easier on this one, now that i got a good one that actually boots

one thing that concerns me though, is the UD3L has bugger-all for pwm/mofset cooling - could get kinda hot

oh well - at least it WORKS now...

Guys is 1.670 ich i/o to much for everyday use ? i seem to got my pc stable but need ich up to 1.6700 to make it stable and it still makes the sounds coming from around the cpu socket. Pinpointed the sound as my megas making noise from the gas only thing it can be.

What do the Phase adjustments do in the BIOS?

They can actlike like partial steps to lowering trd (performace level), if all are set to '1' whils the board is running trd of 9, then it will be just like running 8 ;). It can help fine tuine memory performance & squeeze the last out of the NB.

For the UD3P either F10B or F10J. F10J has quick boot so it boots fast but has some reduced bandwidth and latency. F10B has normal bandwidth but no quick boot, it still boots faster than F4 though.

should i upgrade my BIOS on my GA-EP45-UD3R to F12e from F8. right now i do have my E8500 OCed to 4GHZ with 9.5x and 422 FSB 100% stable

is UD3P Rev 1.0 still very good compared to Rev 1.6? also does the NB get hot like in RE that you need to cool with a water block? i'm thinking of getting rev1.0 but can't decide if i should look for rev 1.6. is buying a used rev1.0 for 75 shipped good idea or should i be getting a new rev1.6 from egg at $110 AMIR. i already plan on going water with my cpu. so i''d figure if the NB gets hot, i can just throw on a MCW30 on it.

I've been having a few stabs at getting 4.5 linx stable, but I'm suffering as a result of what I believe to be a bit of an iffy temp sensor and another weird issue I hope some of you might be able to help with..

I managed up to 8 passes before the PC instantly shut off which indicated to me that a temperature reached it's threshold somewhere. After opening ET6 and looking at the CPU temp sensor on there, I noticed it was jumping around a lot by up to 15°C above the internal sensors. Below is a pic of me testing at 4.4, just to record the kind of spikes the sensor reaches (I guess speedfan would have been better):

Although I understand that the sensor is quite a way off the actual core temps in most people's cases, this one jumped between 75-93°C whilst under load, even though the actual core temperatures are what I think is ok for a linx run at these volts (i could have gone lower on the vcore, but this was just to help illustrate my point without crashing).

The furthest I've got is 8 passes at 4.5, and as you can see below, the temp is actually lower at higher volts:

Shortly after this, ET6 spiked to 96°C and after that, it instantly shut down. (I assume it must have hit 100°C)

My other issue is sometimes when I run linx, temps run lots lower, and cpu runs slower and sometimes loses more than half the performance (i.e ~30 gflops rather than ~60), although nothing different shows in CPU-Z speeds or any other unusual events - could some process be interfereing with it even though everything else shows 0% usage? This is pretty much a fresh install of W7 64bit.

Any hints from the experinced pros are welcome! Do any of the bios offer lower CPU temp readings?

Hi guys , just got UD3P few days ago as my galaxy 650i ultra got busted due to 2 yrs of overclocking my q6600.. on that mobo it was doing 3.3ghz 24x7.

Now I wanna hit somewhere around 3.6ghz with this mobo.Went through few pages of this very very long thread.Looks like everyone is using 8xxx or 9xxx with this mobo. Is there anyone using q6600 with it. PLs post ur oc settings for it then :) so that I can start on a solid ground.. I have cooler master Extreme power 600 w psu and true 120. Since the heatsink on northbridge is sufficient hence I avoided swapping it with hr-05 sli. Now will it help if I replace the stock southbridge heatsink with Hr-05 sli or its not needed? .. Pls help guys .. On bios ver f8

You'll probably find the settings for the Q9xxx range will get you most of the way. You'll need more vcore to get lower clocks though and you won't be able to clock as high. I would suggest you start with all voltages/settings at default (not auto), set your multiplier to 6x and increase FSB from there whilst keeping a low multi (something like 400 will be worth starting from imo). It will also be worth checking if you can get 500fsb stable, just to find your CPU's limit and get a feel for what voltages you'll need. For everything other than CPU. There are no 'right' settings, it all depends on your CPU. Note that skews and CPU/MCH ref voltages are very helpful in getting stable, particularly at high fsb, although I don't know about this board and 45nm quads, If I kept my Q6600, I would probably have some settings for you.

See how far you can get, and post back with your settings and we could go from there. Remember to keep an eye on your temps though - those quads get proper toasty!

man, all rev's seem good. you guys are getting insane fsb's that P5Q can't seem to hit. what kind of memory are you guys using? would this G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Link be good enough? or do i have to get something that is even higher than this? and the Voltage 2.0V - 2.1V that the ram is rated at, is that fine to run in the board as well?

Had 4.0 GHZ easy the other day, and then lost it... i couldn't get it back no matter what i tried in the bios on the UD3L rev1 f4 bios... it seemed like it was resetting the memory speed on me...
so here's what happened: i updated the bios to f7 and it booted right away,,,,

just in case any of you folks have the ep45 ud3l and run into this:clap::clap::clap:

Thanks guys for all ur replies..:up: I will start with settings posted by fatguy1992 .. got a pretty decent knowledge abt overclocking but zero knowledge about p45 chipset.As I was using nvidia 650i ultra for last two yrs and it was a decent board for its price. Will try different things and post how far I can go 24x7 :)

Can u post ur 3.6ghz and 4.0 ghz settings as well for q6600? I hope you still have them :)

Ok. Been able to clock q6600@3.6 ghz with ram@800 mhz -9x400 fsb 1:1 .My ram is pretty ordinary one- transcend 800mhz cl5.. I think max this ram can do is 900-950 mhz with loose timings.
