Besides Sata settings for Boot from Sata 3 & AHCI mode, everything is 100% stock in the bios.
It's not an OCing issue.
This occurs in both 1.6 and 1.7. I haven't bothered to go back to anything earlier.
I think I have a bad board.
so ur cpu is at stock speeds? ram is at stock? but u said u messed with the ram timings...have u ran memtest yet? so what ur telling us is that u have everything at stock..u went to the exit tab and hit load defaults...but u only have the ahci mode enabled. have u cleared the cmos after installing the new bios?
btw u dont have a bad board
Checked your mobo socket pins yet?Quote:

If you haven't already, disable all onboard devices then turn them back on one by one to try and isolate what causes one of the threads to stay 100% loaded. If you haven't installed any drivers for the PCH or anything like that it might explain the problem. As there isn't a issue when using 2k8 it's safe to say the problem appears to be software side.
Yeah, I've installed the intel rapid storage technology driver that comes on the disc.
Is there a better choice? Kind of odd though. Seems like someone else would be reporting this driver issue and not just me.
I"m going through and doing full updates via windows update as well. Seeing if any update helps, then narrow the cause down if it goes away.
i never installed any drivers off of the disc
I tried the PCH driver from here: Link
For AHCI. This should be right as that's what I'm using....
You need to install THESE.
Thanks. I installed it. Same issue.
Windows is currently in IDE mode as I was trying to see if AHCI was the culprit. It's not.
It must be something driver related that's will load in safemode.
I'm running process explorer and under system, it gives between 9.5% and 10.5% cpu usage for Hardware Interrupts and DPCs.
I can't think of what other drivers I should try using.
Edit: Took a look at Event Viewer. Here's what's up.
I have 3 errors in the Event Viewer under "Administrative Events:
Here they are in order:

This is copy & pasted from my other thread.
Download regcleaner, click the "startup" tab and see if theres anything that loads with win that really doesn't need to. one of those could be causing the unusual behavior.
ALl that shows up is Desktop Start menu and Desktop Start Menu (common user).
Really can't delete those. Remember, this is a totally fresh instal of windows. If I am having to do a registry clean on windows w/o altering it, something is very wrong.
I still have no idea.
Where can you get a new ACPI.sys or ACPI.EXE? I'm curious to see if I can replace it and solve the issue that way.
I have a thread here in the Intel section on this problem. Here's what I've found:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...8&postcount=45
I've swapped drives, pulled memory sticks. Doesn't change the error.
Any ideas?
i would pull that ssd and reformat another drive..do not install any drivers or utilities off the disc that came with the board...take everything out hardware wise that doesnt need to be present for booting and installation purposes. make sure ur ram is in the blue slots also
I've already done all of that.
1. Both sticks are in blue slots (tried other arrangements, 1 slot, white slots, etc).
2. Used a 5400 RPM 2.5" drive which netted the same results.
3. I have unplugged everything besides video, using PS/2 keyboard, 1 video card, ethernet for lan.
4. I have also gone into the bios and disabled everything, including USB 2.0 & 3.0, LAN, firewire, etc. I have also entered windows and killed a few processes like windows audio, themes, etc...
Nothing has worked.
Well, so as not to derail this thread the last thing I can suggest is try using the latest UEFI for your board, doing a full CMOS reset, and try reseating the CPU.
New problem.
I left the clear CMOS button in the "short" position w/ the battery out. Moving the jumper back and replacing the battery, the system boots.
When I enter the Bios, it states, "Enter Password."
I was using Bios v1.7 from the link on the first page. I can't enter instant flash using F6. Windows BSODs since the bios is now set to IDE and Win 7 was installed as AHCI.
And I shorted the CMOS jumper agian w/ the battery out and its fixed....
If anyone was curious about what does Low MMIO Align option really do:
I have tested and it really boost performance especially in file compressing/decompressing programs like 7zip or WinRAR.Quote:
Dear Customer,
By default memory addressing is optimized for 64 Bit operating systems, resulting in less available memory for a 32 Bit operating system, with Low MMIO Align you can set it for optimized settings for a 32 Bit operating system.
For a 64 bit operating it should be set to 1024
Kind regards,
ASRock Support
Good to hear, this could be the solution I have been looking for. I've found that from going from my X58 system to my P67, decompressing times have slowed down quite a bit, especially bigger files. A little confusing since it is faster in every other way. Hopefully this solves the issue. Will post back results.
Well, it didn't seem to do anything special for me. I am running x64 Windows 7, and set the MMIO to 1024. It took 2 mins to extract a 4.7 gig file, where as my X58 set up could do it in 1 min. Through experimenting, I have been able to extract the same file in less than a minute but only by extracting the file to another physical harddrive.
So there is a bottleneck in yours harddrive subsystem. Perhaps wrong configuration or drivers.

I've been using my C300 SSD in the white slot1 port for about a week now. I figured I should have put it in one of the Marvell controller ports but when I did that and enabled it in the BIOS, I couldn't boot up from my SSD. Should I just leave the SSD in slot1 or am I missing out on some super awesome speeds? I have my DVD drive in slot4 and storage in slot2 if it makes a difference.
It was the worst thing you could think of. Marvell performance is much worse than Intel.
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=3
Neither of the Marvell controllers in that link are what the Extreme4 uses. The Extreme4 uses the Marvell SE9120 controller, performance could well (and probably does) differ. I'd suggest trying to come across a performance comparison using the right controller for a accurate guide to performance ;)
@DontMakeMeEatU; Did you remember to change the option to make any devices on the Marvell controller bootable?
