I've had 15 wolfies and never experienced that.

Yeah, on my second wolfie now, and both requires more after a while, this seem to have entered with 45nm ..
Yup I should have been clearer, DMF has the right idea.
Ordinarily we'd do mobo FSB limits first (old school), but the presumption is that the Intel chipsets, particuarly your P45 these days can go far beyond RAM or CPU limits anyway.
Normally the RAM part would take quite a bit of time to figure out as well, but setting cas 5 should allow most cas 4 RAM to scale well beyond what your CPU will hit. Of course, confirm this with memtest and at 6x multi to confirm.
So once RAM latency and volts, necessary NBv for those respective FSB settings are in place, then it's pretty smooth sailing: CPU increases will then obviously require more vcore.
Yes on every single one of my 4 wolfies.. I had to up the voltage to run prime stable. I've never had to up the vcore due to system instability. Doesnt have to pass prime to be stable.
my e8400 came from new egg...but its still a luck of the draw...tiger direct advertises there e8400,s to be rev E0...but they charge sales tax in my state.........QUESTION..do guy,s think 1.4200v vtt ((aka cpu termination)) will end up killing my chip for 24/7...im sure its a little less then whats set in the bios
just got another of the same batch as before of Q828A127. 1.25VID same as other but does another 75mhz on same vcore (4375mhz 1.39V)...will push it a bit more tomorrow with 1.4-1.42v and see what I get.

gurusan
what about 500x9?
will try it tomorrow
I see a few more people got a Q829A congrats .
I will post pictures with a camera of my Air cooled
system and my temps I think you guys will be shocked.
I believe voidwarranty temp claims.
I know the chip will do crazy things , they are a fantastic batch.
lol vid 1.25 so that will prove vid means nothing.
Here is my q829a
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...e35/600FSB.jpg
I just received a Q829A159 from Newegg which I ordered on Friday, shipped from NJ warehouse. Hope it's as good as some that are posted here! It will be going in to a DFI P45 JR so I will likely be back to ask about all the extra BIOS settings that I'm not used to, I need to wait for a few other bits first.
I ordered a new chip this past "Black Friday" and it came in today...
E8400-E0 Q832A161 with a packdate of 9/25/08. It has a 1.2250 VID. I've not done much testing on it but it appears prime stable (4 1/2 hours large FFT) at 444x9 with 1.20v idle and 1.184v/1.192v load!
My replacement E8600 Q820A727 (1.25 VID) which I recently got back from Intel RMA requires around 1.232v load to be stable at 4.0GHz. Hopefully this new E8400 will continue to scale with increased vcore.
@PolRoger
Do got your northbridge fan hooked up?
I did'nt notice it in your TPower shot there
under the system fan rpm's just asking..
could not get get 500x9 stable but this is stable :)

@gurusan,awesome!god i wish i could get my processor to do 9x500 or higher, maybe ill try 9.5x? and see how that goes. and again very nice clock
thanks. i've been through a fair amount of chips and this is the best chip I've found. stepping Q828A127....VID is only 1.25V
just goes to show you that VID really doesnt mean anything in wolfies :/
yea the only thing i notice in vid is the lower ones run alot hotter. my e8400 w/vid of1.23 runs so hot that once i clock above 4200 i cant even run intel burn test cause temps rise straight up into the 70C's where as my e8500 never goes above 52C at 4300 on IBT.
You E8500/8400 E0 owner are so lucky.4.5ghz on way under 1.38 volts I have to pump 1.4 volts to hit 4.1 in my C0 on water
Think 1.5 volts will kill my chip? I want 4.5ghz :)
Might just wait till the quads go cheaper and do a 4gzh quad chip :)
Keep the overclocking coming. Anyone have a C0 with 4.5ghz or higher? How much volts?
Nice OC Gurusan we have almost the same batch it seems . Im loving it and benched a 3d suite 03,05,06 last night @ 533 *8.5
4530 I can do exactlly 1.408 but bumped to 1.42 for 3d stability , it went all night no errors and max temp on air was 50C !!!!!
It was my first run of that suite for a single gpu comp and beat the 8th spot I know this thing will do much more. Oh btw I am finding 1.22v MHC is really nice and stable for me @ 533 hope this helps guys .1
After a couple months, mine went from 4.0 stable at 1.216v up to 1.248v. But i also have had my chip up to 4.6-4.7Ghz a few times. Not sure if that made the difference, but I've benched 4.6ghz alot since its needed 1.248v and it hasn't changed.
I still love my "low voltage" C0 :yepp:
I just wish my skills, or motherboard would allow me to get 4.3 stable. I really think its my board, orthos fails not matter what i do at 4.3. Though, i may be doing something wrong, I've tried tons of combinations with timings and volts. I may try the memory timings jacked up to 6-6-6-15 or so, next.
I did some more testing on my new E8400 (Q832A161 1.2250VID) today. I started off with +0.75v of cpu vcore using 500x8.5= 4.250GHz. At idle CPUZ showed 1.256v/1.248v and under load running Prime large FFT 1.240v/1.232v it seemed stable and after running a decent bit I decided to go for the what I consider the "big money shot" for 24/7 air overclock of 500x9 using +0.150v vcore. CPUZ was showing idle at 1.325v/1.320v and load was 1.312v/1.304v and sometimes vdroop would drop to 1.298v. I still don't have this completely Prime stable it has been failing around 2 1/2 to 3 hours large FFT. I'll probably put this chip in one of my other boards and continue with more testing.
that's a mighty fine chip you have there! congrats
Thanks gurusan.
It is nice to finally get a good one. :)
I bumped up MCH/VTT and I think it may have stabilized the chip. Using the same +0.150v cpu vcore setting and Priming large FFT... I noticed less vcore movement in CPUZ. Idle is now showing 1.328v and load stays mostly on 1.304v and I didn't observe it dropping below 1.3v like my previous settings. I'll now see if it can run overnight while crunching SETI/Climate Prediction.
its the gigabyte board you have.. i have the GA-EP45-DS3R, i cant get it past 4.1ghz either. ive tried every thing i can think of and from what others have tried to help me with. i have actually had 4 different gigabyte boards.GA-P35-DS3R VERSION 2.0,AND 2.1,GA-EP35C-DS3R,and now my GA-EP45-DS3R. and i cant get over 4.1ghz stable on any of them.4.0ghz is the most i can get and not worry about it.
plus i have a CO stepping so that might hold me back too.
Just got an E0 E8500 with 1.175 VID. So far seems to do 4.6ghz 1.408V.....temps are really high on this one though (78C under watercooling). Shame as this seems like a really good chip, with some proper LN2 or osmething I think it could be very successful :)
yeh its weird gurusan some chips require very low volts at high clocks but once you apply over a certain voltage they get very hot i have a q822a435 and mine only needs 1.24 volts to run at 4.34ghz but once over about 1.375 volts it gets very hot, other chips need a much higher voltage to run at same clocks but run cooler even though they are taking more volts
Hey gurusan-
This is a little off topic but I was going to post my E8400 on this thread and I saw the overclock on this chip (E8600) and I thought you would find it interesting... high overclock  with low volts and low temps. http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php...0&postcount=45
Thanks for that, but 1.2125 is not really low VID....most are 1.25, some 1.225, others 1.2125.
1.175 is really quite low for an e8500 in my experience and it does run burning hot. At the same settings this chip is almost 20C hotter than my other 1.25 vid e8500
yep. my e8400 w/vid of 1.23 runs about 15c hoter than my e8500 w/vid of 1.25
hmm, just took a look at the clocks.
wow! that's pretty amazing. i almost don't believe it! 4.7ghz on those voltages........craziness I tell you! What stepping is it?
thanks.
just tuned down voltage and put in 450fsb.....so far so good
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/730/72715454tw3.png
got a replacement board for my P5Q-E, and its a rev 3 instead of rev 2, and lower temps with better OC:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ghze8400OC.jpg
well if its a3 then hopefully it will clock like the new a3 UD3P's good luck mate
finally got 4400.it just took a little more vcore,and running1:1 http://i36.tinypic.com/ej75f4.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/5oy3wl.jpg
ok....running 13 min of orthos and counting! so far so good, so if it stays stable, I'm keeping this!! this A3 board rocks and so does the E0 Stepping e8400!!!!
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ghze8400OC.jpg
@ssabripo,they are clocking very well, and clocking memory to world records

looks good.
played with my e8500 a bit more....aint a bad cpu :)

where are you guys getting E0 E8500's from?
i get them fromt he bay

here's my update:
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9340/4500dm9.png
those are all very nice overclocks yall !! with I7 out thier are some very good deals floating around now
got my eye out for a good 8600 EO :D
Just picked this up the other day. E8500 Q827A658
Primed all day at 9.5x440, just kicked it up to 9.5x445. Half hour into it, looking pretty decent so far.
EDIT: Almost 4 hours, I'm going to fold on it for a few days at these settings.
I've started exploring with +0.200v vcore.
yowzers that is a nice chip
OMG! polroger that is one awesome cpu! keep pushing
PolRoger killer chip man ! with some good ram that sucker will do 5.0
Thanks guys.
I also did some initial testing with +0.250v vcore which runs ~1.424v idle to ~1.400v load. I'm able to get into windows and do some superpi at 533x9 but it wasn't prime stable. This chip runs hotter than my 1.250 VID 8600 with prime temps hitting in the lower 60C's with higher vcore. I think I'm going to put this chip on my DFI UT P45... it has better BIOS voltage increments which will help in getting 533x9 stable.
nice one gurusan. i wish i could get mine over 4400.still no luck
nice guru, btw what kind of speed is your ram at?
pushed mine a bit more tho.
and btw relative to yalls how does my temp look? im on water and maybe im just expecting to much but the temps look alittle on the high side...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/...b8a6c870_o.png
A little update. Every kick up in speed now takes a big jump in voltage. 4.4 might be in reach, but I don't know about 4.5.
Hello all, my first post..here we go
E8400 FPO A807A269.
Memorii: Geil ultra @ 890mhz 5-5-5-15
Gigabyte GA-P35-S3
Normal settings:

E8400 @ 4000Mhz Vcore 1.232 load si 1.248 Idle
http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/408...horthosmk6.jpg
Average temps are 75C, they got higher when my Tuniq Tower was not to full power and had ~28C in my room.
Linpack, Vcore 1.248 idle and 1.232 full load
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/1...linpacknu2.jpg
I can boot Vista having 1.20 idle vcore and 1.184 load (but not stable in orthos).
What do you think guys?
Should I be worried about the vcore of 1.248 idle and 1.232 load?
Thanks
@ joebar, my air set up is very cool.using air conditioned air, at 4400 temps never exeed 46-48c.ican prime for hours at 4400 but as soon as try to go to say 4411,prime fails after about 5 minutes-temps still only 47c.thishappens using different multipliers still no luck.but ill keep trying
I got a Q828A409 last week and have been playing around.
Anyone else running these on a 780i MB? Looking for better voltage settings for NB/SB, FSB, HTT.

http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/9...00947ambq1.jpg
I was missing some of the screen shots when I first viewed you post. I now see that some of your CoreTemps show a 1.1625 VID... I don't think that 1.248v is too much but those temps... that 10 hour orthos run showed peak temps as high as 82C/84C... your chip seems to run pretty hot.
I guess you have tried to reseat/remount your cpu/cooler?
Hi guys, my E8500 just arrived an hour ago. I specifically bought the E0 stepping (who wouldn't lol) and I am very impressed by this thing so far. This is my third boot (once I figured how to enable the .5 multi) and I haven't even begun to tweak the system yet.
Motherboard: EVGA 680i AR
CPU batch: Q820A916
FSB: 1896MHz (474MHz)
Memory: OCZ ReaperX PC-6400 @ 948MHz 5-5-4-18 2T
Vcore in BIOS: 1.425
Vcore in CPU (idle) 1.4v
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ys/4500MHz.png
I don't like this voltage for everyday use but I may be able to tweak it.
Having this CPU in my gaming motherboard when I have a Maximus Formula boxed behind me is a bit irritating lol :P
1.4v is fine for 24/7 use...heck...1.45v is fine in my book
nvm i'm an idiot.
I thought people have had 45nm chips die on them at just over 1.4v? I reckon I could get it stable at 1.4v but the FSB is another thing... I'll have to try some stuff first.
What's the program of choice for these chips - Orthos or Prime95? I'm not interested in IBT :)
I've ran Orthos again (1.248v idle, 1.232 load) and never got past the 75C.
Guess the 82C/84C was caused by not having my Tuniq Tower in full blast.
If I lower to 1.232v idle and 1.216v load I'll get quite lower temps.
What do you think max 75C in load sounds "safe" (or be in the safe side)?
@Rippo
Oh yes you passed 75°C. Your Tj.Max temperature is wrong. It's fixed in beta versions of Real Temp but you can set it manualy to 100°C. So, watch at your temps with 5°C more ;). Although, Intel's max recommanded temperature is 72.2°C so I think that's too hot for just 1.23V.
Bullet92, I've previously set the TjMax to 100C for 1st core. Second one it was to 95, so basically I hit 75C.
I tried just to get to desktop at 5GHz and failed, but I'm forgetting this is only an Evga motherboard and 525MHz fsb is kinda pushing things lol.
I did however manage to boot at 4.75GHz:
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ys/4750MHz.png
I'm very happy at the moment with 4GHz on 1.25v but I'd like to aim to aim for a higher clock speed - 4.5GHz is easy for the CPU but I'm not sure how the FSB will hold up...
If you really wish to run at 4.0 you could always try the 1.232v idle setting for 24/7 and see if you ever have stability issuses in your day to day computer activites.
Everyone has a different definition of stability.
I like mine to pass OCCT 2hr mix perhaps even a longer custom run... pass Prime with 3 to 4 hrs... I'll even run IntelBurnTest a few times if my voltages are not too high. However for long term stability testing I like to run Seti/ClimatePrediction.
I have my E8400-C0 set with just enough cpu voltage to be stable at 4.0GHz and not have any crash/resets with seti/climateprediction running up to 24/7. I have it set so that it doesn't proccess while I'm active but otherwise it is always crunching.
I've found that if my systems can do Seti long term then I usually don't have problems with stability.
wow 4.2ghz --- 4.9ghz overclocks in the last two pages. Very impressive.
These clock speeds/voltages are because of the quality of the chip, not my skills as an overclocker lol:Quote:

So far the best I can get is 4400MHz at 1.368v (1.4v BIOS), which seems pretty happy so far. I'd rather less vcore though, so I may take it down to 4300MHz.

4.1GHz on 1.27v is crazy for a C0
yeah nice oc there, but i think that low voltage is becouse of low VID -> take a look on temps
Ah good point. At 4.4GHz 1.36v my sustained load temps are 44/42C so now I see where the E0 stepping comes in. :yepp:
Hi guys i just recently got a pretty good cooler (Xigmatek S1284C) for my system (E8400\P5Q Deluxe\2x2 Gskill Pi CL4 Black Edition) need some tips what do you guys think i can do here?
Thanks
Really makes me feel great knowing I blew 300 bucks on an E8600 and it can't keep up with those! It turned out to be a real rag.
The temperature sensors work!
Hey!
At least they fixed something!http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9...tericalcb5.gif

damn, these E0's are great overclockers.
I have an E0 for my E8400 wanted some tips on a good OC... i recently got a pretty good cooler (Xigmatek S1284C) for my system (E8400\P5Q Deluxe\2x2 Gskill Pi CL4 Black Edition) need some tips what do you guys think i can do here?
Thanks
Some E0 E8400s are doing 4.5GHz stable, but if you want really low vcore you should get 4GHz with 1.2-1.25v no bother. I think my E0 can do 4GHz on less than stock volts, but I haven't primed it yet at 1.23vcore.
What Bios are you guys Using? im using the 1406 bios from Asus, witch should i use?
Thanks
