Finally i decided to watercool my NB. The block i am gonna use is EK S-MAX. My problem is that i dont realy know if i should also WC my SB. SB gets hot tbh but i guess with a plain aircooled HS i will have decent results. One more reason i want to aircool SB is not to restrict water flow more, in case i decide to WC my GFX later on. So what are my aircooling options for SB? Is it just TR one cause i dont want to permantely attach is on MB like Talonman did with Enzotech HS on his Asus. :)

I was working on my Maximus Formula, but by accident one of the double-pin socket CPU. As far as I could see only 1 of the pins.
Any suggestions on how to solve this?
I tried removing the NB/SB heat sink by putting the mobo in the refrigerator freezer. It stayed there for about 2 hours and 45 minutes and I after that I could not remove the HS with "any real force".
What would you suggest - placing the mobo for another freeze session, buy the circuitcity freeze spray or try the hair dryer?
Mine came off after about 2 hrs in the freezer - i used a trick someone in this tread pointed out which was to take a piece of an old credit card and a screw driver and gently apply some leverage to the NB block and after working that for a minute or so in various positions on the block it came off with a "crack" that almost gave me a heart attack:shocked: but it worked like a charm...Quote:

I pushed them down from the top, pinch them with the needlenose pliers, then they come through.

Talonman, Just beautifull and such a result. I was worried about having everything on one loop with my next build so doing something similar (ie but already had my current vid card water cooled). Since have not had the cooling results you have with your prior set-up and plan two of the ATI 4870 X2's, I went to two PA 120.3's). Have the PA 120.3 in the top of my new case (just like the formula build), but building a stand/loop box (inspired by the Keg) to hold another PA 120.3 for my two vid cards. Sticking the PS in the top of the stand/box to get it out of the way of the vid card barbs (PS on bottom in the stacker with the PA 120.3 in the top). The loop box/stand is being built out of all aluminum (exception bottom panel), so is light enough to bolt to the case. Was glad to see your good result with one PA 120.3.

long aluminum strip to be cut to go under bolt heads in bottom of case for support (bolts sitting loose in holes). Will also have a on off switch in the box for pc and there is room for extra drives if needed. The loop box/ stand would hold two Pa 120.3's with all the related water stuff if that is all it is used for and looks to adapt to phase cooling (may be too heavy to move that way?).

I heard of people using the freezer method but I used the hair dryer method and that worked very well. I heated up the board from behind and a slight twist and it popped right off. The TIM on there is like cement. You may have to scrap it off like I did. I have the Maximus Extreme but I think they are using the same kind of TIM on both.Quote:

Guys, has anyone tried new bitspower's combo(nb+sb) waterblock on maximus formula? How good is he? What temps do you get? Maybe some pics

ok i have a problem. i tried all these things and nothing whatsoever worked so i tried the heat it up and use a lil bit of leverage method, well off popped my ihs!! godamn asus!! well everything is intact with the ihs still "super glued to the heatpipe system i replaced the intel x38 thermal rubber stuff on the actual chip with ceramique but has this ever been done before?? i cant find much just that most prefer it on, will a waterblock hit the resistors surrounding the x38 chip??
ok well with m X38 ihs off!!! the baord is runnning quite well!! actually 3c lower on air than before ame as with the stock fuzion block of cour the ihs is still attached to the block but it still runs cooler im going to try to run it with the ek nb max direct die and see what happens i mean P35/P45 both are ihs less cant be that bad ;)
