Hey fellow P5K Deluxe owners. Got a question about my board. I got it 3 days ago. The first 2 days my system would power down completely when I shut down Windows. Now the system won't shut down completely. The fan and power light stay on all the time. Funny thing is everything else works perfectly. Does this mean my new board is defective?
Hey guys, I've been having fun now that my setup is complete... I get withdrawal just being away from it
E6600 lapped (3.6GHz w/ 1.6v)
Scythe Infinity w/ Dual SFF21F fans
Asus P5K Deluxe
Corsair XMS-8500C5D (1.2GHz 5-5-4-12 w/ 2.4v)
EVGA 8800GTS KO ASC3 (655*1045)
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty
X3 WD-2500 RAID-0
Plextor Premium, LG Super-Multi
CoolerMaster Stacker 830 w/ 4*140mm & 3 120mm fans
Antec NEO-550 HE
Dell 2007WFP, Dell 17'
Klipsche Promedia 2.1, Steelsound 3H
Saitek Eclipse, Razer Copperhead & Func F10 pad
My biggest problem setting this up was with the raid.
After trying many custom unattended xp disks and pressing F6 to load drivers I ended up getting the "please insert win xp disk..." ... iastor.sys missing ... even though I had loaded it from disk. So I tried slipstreaming intel ICH9 raid drivers to those custom xp install. It would install fine, but I got BSOD with heavy read/writes from the disks. I worked like it was supposed to with "windows xp pro coprporate integrated july" by ETH0 group. Just the basic xp integraded disk. F6 with a disk created by the intel matrix storage floppy disk creator v# 7.6.0.1011. ETH0 has regular releases and I imagine they will work also.
Two things I'm curious about...
Does this board have trouble running memory above 1216MHz? My sticks show promise of being able to go higher but I read elsewhere that someone was having trouble getting their corsair pc-10000C5DF running above 1214 and he was running his 4-4-4-12 with tonnes of room left.
Second is I'm unable to get the fsb past about 446. I seem to hear from reading along the way that this may be a limitation of my processor? Even if I lower my multi I can't break through this.
Suggestions? reasons? Do you need some more info?
Thanks,
i got a 503 to the deluxe, but it has some strange dividers.(501, 490fsb=1225 ddr2) (503, 490fsb=1176ddr2) couldn`t use oc profile from 501. it clock a bit higher, from 505 fsb to 510-15. so i wnte back to 501.
3 weeks later?? Guess I got spoiled with the P5W DH, they seemed to update that board every two weeks. Nothing really wrong with 501 but it does have some FSB holes. Just excuses, we need something new to play with.:)
no more expenses for the moment please... :)Quote:
Hehe, X38 is upon us
Bios 0503 is out
August 22nd build date.
I hope it sorts out the bugs and isn't a beta :)
posting a link is always a good idea ;)
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...eluxe/0503.zip
The Asus web support site still shows 0501 beta. Is this, in fact, the 0503 bios for the P5K Deluxe?
I certainly would not like to attempt installing the wrong bios.
Downloaded from this link and got corrupted file when unzip.
Entering the asus ftp i got it right, dont know what happend :S
Anyway here is the direct link to the asus P5KDeluxe ftp page
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so.../P5K%20Deluxe/
Im pretty sure 0503 just bricked my P5K DLX.....
I flashed it, at the verify point of the flash with AsusUpdater it said "failed to verify EEPROM" yatta yatta.....Hit flash to retry, or exit to abort...got the same message a few times...hit exit to abort it....and restarted
So now I have a computer that turns on, powers up everything and reboots. Thats all it does.
Tried clearing CMOS, and retry nothing... I left it for 10mins or so to see if that helped. Nothing.
Anyone had this problem before? Or is this thing headed for an RMA....
I knew that was the BIOS I should have installed from DOS.....Vista spited Me with a brick haha
EDIT: Shes dead....wont even stay on long enough for it to give me a BIOS recovery prompt....
RIP P5K Deluxe I knew ye well>>>>
Wheres X38 already? I will have to wait for those to launch, so my rig is going to be offline for at least a month :(
Hey guys,
I just built a workstation using the following:
P5K Deluxe, 0501 bios
Q6600 G0
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
2x2gb Patriot DDR2 5-5-5-15
Silverstone Zeus 560w
Problem:
There is a gap of FSB choices that will not work. Between ~360mhz and ~400mhz will not POST. 400mhz posts fine but is not multi PI stable for more than a few iterations unless I put on more voltage than I'd like. This is all at the default 9x multiplier. Is there something I'm missing?
I've tried lots of different voltage combinations but nothing seems to help. I'd optimally like to run the chip at 9x390 because I think it's the sweet spot of stability/voltage/temperatures.
I'm currently burning it in at 355x9 1.475v. This will suffice unless someone can explain what I'm missing. I recall reading a review of a P35 board a while back that had a very similar issue, but I don't remember which site it was.
Chaos,
Asus update is a problem. Your board is toast - sorry, but all you can do is RMA and always flash from dos in the future.
p5K deluxe 0404 FTW :D
never flash from windows....
@ ChaosMinionX. Sorry to hear that.:( I wish I would have seen your post earlier. I went ahead and flashed with a USB stick and ASUS EZ flash 2 and it worked alright but I certainly would have thought twice if I had seen your post.
I wonder what the performance of X38 is like 400x9 with 3-3-3-6 settings. I dunno if it will handle the same as 975X did, because numbers shot through the roof using those settings.
P5K premium here tomorrow :)
