My board just bit the bullet. I also was running LinX stress test, board all of a sudden went into sleep mode and would not power on. I unplugged everything, even tried another power supply............finally it powered up WITHOUT the 4-pin power hooked up, but it would not POST.

Plug the 4-pin back in and it goes back to not booting back up. I'm starting to think that Fry's free motherboard deals are free for a reason. I expected ECS boards to be throwaway..........not MSI.

I also got the H55 MSI combo deal with the base model i3 (called a Pentium though), and that board's standoff holes are off by a mile.

I'm going to do an autopsy and see what's killed her. Kind of regretting selling my i7 rig right now.

i saw your rig pics in another build. I have a similar setup when it comes to rad placement over the pwm heatsink. after measuring the temps i decided that better cooling was needed in that area.
if you dont want to keep killing this mobo, you will need better case flow as well. in my situation, just upgrading the case fans was adequate enough to cool down the pwm by a measured 20c. the stock 1200rpm lian-li fans are pretty much like spinner rims... useless.

I went over that area with a magnifying glass and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary except one glob of solder near the screw hold-down.

these 2 look a little burnt around the edges. that glob of solder is exactly where i had mine as well... except mine was bridging the 2 fets.

also, what bios was the board shipped with?

the one that died on me shipped with 1.2, the one that has survived shipped with 1.4 (both picked up from frys)

I believe it came with 1.2, but I'm not sure. The first thing I did when I got it was flash it to 1.6

same here. i suspect that we got ourselves a bad batch.

I had one of our field service engineers pick me up one in Dallas TX. I'm really partial to Asus, but they don't have anything comparable to this right now. I'll pick up another Antec Spotcool with the replacement to cool off the mosfets. Hell, I may just sell the Phenom and go back with another i7 or Gulftown.

yea, if this one dies i will put in a asus ASUS M4A89GTD PRO. the case can support a full atx.

What really bothers me is how quickly the board died. I was running caseless for a week with a 120mm fan blowing over the area and I'd say maybe 30 minutes of LinX max in the new case killed it (case has excellent cooling btw, but haven't gotten around to optimizing the fan configurations).

Okay as this a fanboy site for this mobo I'm gonna ask a loaded question....

As I'm not one to usually be on the bleeding edge of tech, I have found myself an owner of said motherboard. While I have moved to the realm of AM3 with PII X4 945 and 955BE only the 955 is in an AM3 mobo (MSI 785GM-E65) I've only used AM2+ mobos until this year.

That was supposed to change with the arrival of a MSI NF750-G55 for the 955 and move the 945 to the 785. However domestic tranquility has been totaled as I managed to gain ownership of said mobo and a 1055t from my usual addiction. :eek: :rolleyes: :(

So what will I gain in using said mobo over the NF750 as I have 2 x GTX 285s??

If I’m going to die why couldn’t it have been paired with a MSI NF980-G65????

is it only my 890gmx-g65 that cant adjust cpu volt + cpu-nb volt in bios????

and if so was it fixed in another bios ??

tried bios 1.6 ... and it didnt fix ANYTHING cannot even boot into windows when i try core unlocker .... :| .....

it's not locked, you can try using the up/dn key or pg up/ pg dn key

both my boards work fine. 1055t and 1090t ran decent clocks, and no death. I have 1.6 on both boards now. The bios could still use some work, but I haven't played with them in the tweaking side in a while. Running MCE boxes now.

i tried ... i could only change the voltage for the SB ... ram voltage thats it ... other volt option seems to be stuck at some numbers or i cant change them.... weird huh

Are both of them Rev 1.0? Are they in skeletons like in your avatar? What kind of clocks/voltage are we talking?

update... it seems that now after a couple try i can now unlock 1 core and boot into windows... but not the 4th core + the voltage now seems to be adjustable .... after the 4th reboot after i flashed bios 1.6 .... weird indeed... anyway im glad everything is fixed ... now on for a more stable bios to allow the 4th core to unlock

Just got this board and am pretty impressed. One thing I haven't figured out is a way to control fans via OS software. The cpufan header can be controlled via the BIOS but not the 3-pin sysfan. Once in Windows I can't seem to find a way to conrol either fans, Speedfan only sees the cpu and hdd temp. HW monitor however does seem to show the rpm for the cpufan.

Edit: Speedfan 4.41 beta supports Fintek F71889ED (ISA 500h) sensor on this board. Supports both fan headers to be software controlled.:up:

I'm new to the forums and I just bought this board a few weeks ago. I did some light over clocking with the stock am3 fan and I reached 3.36GHZ. Settings are:

FSB 240
CPU Ratio x14

I just got myself a new cpu cooler, which is a Corsair H50. After seeing my temps drop down I decided maybe I should push the system a little bit higher. So I decided to go to the cell menu and I can't change any settings except "adjust cpu ratio" "CPU-NB Ratio" "CPU core control" which is set to manual and a few others.

I can see "Adjust CPU FSB Frequency" but its in a grey dont and I cannot select it. This is weird because I think I remember raising the FSB a few weeks before.

Any help is appreciated.

Corsair XMS3 2x2GB 9-9-9-24 DDR31600
2xRadeon X1950GT 256MB in Crossfire
Seagate Barracuda II 7200RPM 320GB Sata-II

I decided to just prime my computer to see how well the cooling does at load after 33 minutes my system shut down and would not power on. I thought it might be a power supply problem, but I did a power supply check with a paper clip and the PSU works fine ie. HD Spins and I hear it boot, and PSU fan spins.

When my system shut down I did notice a slow blue LED flashing slowly from the case but I'm not sure what it means.. I tried looking at the mother board manual for any clues but I couldn't find any.

I am starting to think I shorted my motherboard or something worse.. because when I picked up the instruction manual for my H50 I noticed I had to attach these two sticky, black rubber things on the bottom part of the motherboard along with the clip. I just put the clip on the bottom of the motherboard with out the black spongy things... I will test it out tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully it's nothing serious because I'm broke now lol...

Unplug your 4-pin auxilliary power connector and see if she fires up. If she fires up but still doesn't POST, quit wasting your time and submit an RMA. Make sure you post a mobo review on Newegg, and add to the posts

I'm using the same cooler with this board and used the stock MSI bracket since I didn't want to take the board out of my case. When you took the MSI bracket off and replaced it with the H50 bracket, did you notice any padding on the MSI one? I've removed a couple brackets and don't think I saw any kind of padding, so I doubt that's the reason.

So what happens when you press the power button? Do lights come on, fans turn, or any beeps?
Double check that all your power connections are secure. If that doesn't work you should troubleshoot using this for reference.

the stock base bracket has the rubber pads stuck on the base.

Have you short the bios reset jumpers just at the end of the pci-e display socket, that my just do the job, if not, like MassiveOverkill said, stop wasting time and RMA it back, before the dead line.
