Yep, there is proper way to remove IHS just like s0lid said.
I've just removed the IHS of my i7 920. No problem at all & it works:shrug:
It's soldered - you'll have to warm it up. Cut 4mm deep.;)
The first headless i7 is already running in my rig and I`m too lazy to pull it off. But i`ll get another one soon. What about a guide: How to remove i7 IHS with pics&tricks? - The thread should be complete till March 22nd. I'll post a link here, when ready.:toast:

When I made it had not been made a success yet it is the first one ihs mod on Quad cpu (Q6600 and after Q6700)

I'm wondering if I took off the IHS whether or not my heatsink would reach the die.
If the contact is good and the well-made thermal dough, to remove the IHS is worth it ...
Anybody has t he to try a cpu without IHS under big cold ?
