Removing IS usefull IF your temps are HIGH. I've owned several single and dual core opterons and this 0610 is the first one I will not undress I think. The temps are so damn good it's not gonna help me! So see what temps you get when you have the chip. I think 2.9 is very much possible! :rolleyes:

Now, I'm back at the latest bèta bios, NF4LD329.BIN, and look at this...

LTD is set at 1.2V in bios! :eek:

I always bump LDT voltage up +.1 from default when overclocking, I have never needed more. I don't even know if the .1 is absolutely necessary, but i'd rather use it than not use it.

Only remove IHS if 1) you are keeping the chip for sure and 2) it is pretty damn hot

I tried 1.4 and 1.5V on the LTD but this would cause my system to freeze after about 15mins of prime (anyone an idea why?. Artifacs and lockup. So I'll stick to 1.2 or 1.3 too :p:

Now I your SG in the screenshot, maybe you have fluctuations (1.2 shown as 1.18) in vLDT. 1.4 and 1.5 makes system hang (can't help dunno why temps are not a problem, I've run my PWMIC at 65c priming 8hrs no problem) so try 1.3 :D

You also have the +12v at 11,83 and 3.3 at 3,28. What PSU you have? I think its capable to run a DC at 3ghz, but maybe the fluctuations are making it crash?

Completely depends on how good the IHS contact is. Does not depend on the stepping from what I've seen... I have an Enermax Liberty 620W and I do not pay much attention to the SG 12/5/3V readings becaus on a multimeter they are perfect! They do not fluctuate either, according to SG...

I have a CCBWE 0551 UMPW (170) it's prime stable at 270x10 1.55V, not stable 275x10 but stable for web browsing.

Keeping it at 265x10 1.475V Prime stable..

I don't know 0551's very well, but judging by the better chips from that week, 1.55 seems a little high for 270*10.

I had a 165 0551UPMW stable 2.74/1.55v

hmm...nice to see that a BIOS update helped you. my 170 is acting strange. i primed for about 2 hours and it was stable 2.8 @ 1.475, but i tried to do a 12 hour prime and core 1 would crap out at 2 mins (1st time) then 2 hours (second time). my load temps are around 48c so i dont think its a heat issue.

im using the 510-1 BIOS, so maybe a bios update would help? :slapass:

The latest bios helped me ALOT with my CCB1E 0609FPAW 170, so I'd say why not try it? :) I love that bios :p:

170 CCB1E 0609FPAW = naked on water (IHS contact was bad-ass :slapass: )

thats cuz the CCB1E's run so DANG HOT! I still am thrown for a loop at how hot they run compared to a CCBWE, even naked...

yea, the CCB1Es are freakin hot. this one is hotter then any of my other optys.

i have lots of air being pushed around in my computer by strong fans, so my load temps are barely 50c. that should be more then sufficient cooling until i get my water cooling in the future.

Stated it several times... My 2 previous CCBWE 0550UPMW and CCB1E 0550VPMW 165's ran just as hot as the 0609FPAW... I just think I'm lucky with the IHS mount on this 0610 :D

got my opty 165- 0551 VPMW , i know it isnt a good steping but i take the risk cause it only coast 285€ (euros) .

till far its not too bad 2700@1.44v and 2800@1.50v .

MONKSp o x2 3800 so tem 1Mb cahe é diferente , 2800Mhz num opteron dual core ( 2mb cache) ekivale a 2900Mhz ou 2950mhz num x2 3800.


Um x2 3800 tem k overclokar mais para compensar o cache .

Anything that doesnt seem to do higher than 2.8 is blacklisted. The chips that often hit 3.0 are reccommended and the ones that do 2.9 are honorable mention.

i was talking to my friend telling that 2700Mhz in a x2 3800 its not same 2700Mhz in a opty dual core cause x2 3800 only have 1Mb cache and opteron dual core have 2mb cache .

But I bet that I will reach 3Ghz next week when I set up my WC system. ;)

it doesn't mean that 3ghz will be hit with wC. wc is only for temps not necessarily for oc

btw, what is the top temp for opty in the safe range? 50C or 55C

55C is *technically* safe, but for optimal OC results you gotta keep it under 45C

Hey 865pe, now that you moved on to new prime95, can you try to run a custom blend? FFT size 1024-4096KB, Run In-Place, set right mem to be used (if you have 1gb, then 450mb each is fine for each core, won't slow down your computer). This is the best prime95 can dish out and it also stresses the mem controller to see if your cpu & mem can work together. If you'd like a quicker test (say 1-2h instead of 3-5h, then change fft size every 12 mins, instead of 15.):)

The egg is the only place that has shipped anything decent, being ccbwe 0550upmw, monarch is shipping 0551upmw and 0543tpmw.

No idea what zzf is shipping.

hmmm...so 2.8 @ 1.475 is stable, but 2.85 @ 1.55v (slowly increased to this) cant even get stable. my load temps arent even 45c. wassup with that??

Yeah. I used to have it stable at 2.8 (1.5 bios) but for some reason, it decided to stop working stable at that frequency so I had to back it down to 2.7.

Ok, i think i picked up a new stepping code yesterday as it is not listed here code on the CPU is - CCB1E 0609 FPBW. Seems to be a pretty nice stepping code, but i cannot verify whether it will do 3GHz+ as temperatures seem to make it unstable with more voltages. However, i am running it now 19hrs Dual-Prime95 Stable at 2.74GHz @ stock voltage 1.32v. I think 2.73GHz is the max i can get with the voltage not touched, if i go about 10-20MHz higher Prime95 usually fails after about 2hrs or so as i have tested this about 3-4 times.

Im happy with the results thus far, the system is running pretty cool temperature wise and its better than my old single-core CPU. Im not going to go any higher unless i have better cooling like water for instance, im happy just leaving it here at 2.74GHz i think its a nice overclock for my first Dual Core OC! :)

I was reading the Opteron OC threads, and it was showing my stepping as being limited to 2.7-2.75 w/ 1.55V, it was prime stable at 2.7 1.55, but wasn't stable at 2.75.

Not a big deal though, I'm happy with 265 since I can play all my games and watch my movies =).

so, i get my vf900-cu in the mail for my 7900gt, with it i get my thermaltake a1214 (5000rpm cpu fan) i throw that on my stock heatsink. i reseat everything with as5. including the nb sb heatpipe. now, my graphics card idles at like 40c, and my cpu idles at like 30c. as soon as i put any kind of load on them they jump 20c instantly. cpu hits 50+ and gpu hits 60+. i tried OCing a little and the cpu idles at 38c and jumps to about 65c instantly. i've never had this problem with anything before.

i would think its normal. my cpu idles around 28 or so with the new fans, but go up to 46-50 load.

Just other people 1) don't have watercooling 2) don't push as far

Also there are heat and voltage relationships that many people neglect. I.E. 2 days ago i tried this processor out at 3.0 Ghz with 1.52v and it started loading at 51c and it was failing prime instantly on core0.

Now i am doing 3 Ghz with LESS volts and the load temp (at 46cnow) is what's keeping it going.

I also have a proven setup, my mobo/ram/PSU combo is NEVER the limiting factor. CompGeek, for the absolute most i would recommend the stepup to a DFI if you haven't already done so... possibility it's holding you back if you're on an eVGA (dont remember for sure).

Mine run was with 20°C ambient and fans @ sleep mode :rolleyes:

At this votage prime fails @ core 0 after 3.5hrs at 3080MHz...

and i never said it wasn't :)

Well since prime is running @ low priority I'm guessing the "left" core ran about 2-3hrs less prime :p:

ran just as long, only with a lesser % of the core dedicated to it, i really don't care, i usually only prime for an hour because it's a waste of time and Rosetta resources.

Got a Nf4 SLi-DR now, non-expert. Want to try some replacement. What do you guys recommend? I'm thinking about CFX-3200DR, or shouldn't I? :stick:

Ok, don't listen to Compgeek here, the CFX3200 is a great board, it's just pricey. Unless you plan on using it for more than 2-3 months or get CF, get the Ultra-D You're gaurenteed a AD0 or later revision and it's a very stable, versatile and flexible board. I backed down from my Expert, because it was too picky with ram and am loving it.

And compgeek you should take my advice, instead of throwing money away for the sli-dr, unless you want a big box and more sata ports. Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it's better:rolleyes: .

Good you menstion the S-ATA ports! I have 6 HHD's (2 raptors, 2x200 and 2x160). I need a board with 8 porst, at least :D The price of the cfx is something I'll ovecome,... More advice, anyone? :rolleyes:

Also there are heat and voltage relationships that many people neglect. I.E. 2 days ago i tried this processor out at 3.0 Ghz with 1.52v and it started loading at 51c and it was failing prime instantly on core0.

Now i am doing 3 Ghz with LESS volts and the load temp (at 46cnow) is what's keeping it going.

I have my 0610 under watercooling,

2.8 - 1.375v bios
2.9 - 1.475v bios
2.95 - fails > 1.55v bios

Temps dont seem to be a problem as it never gets over 42deg load duel prime small ffts, the coolest chip Ive had by far. Even the PWMIC temps never go above 40deg when they were always high 50's with every other chip ive had.

Maybe theres a weak link somewhere as I had 3 - 165 CCB1E VPMW's which 2.8Ghz was max out of any of them. I run my mem on a 133 divider to take it out of the equation.

Any ideas ?

by the way, i figured out why my temps were spiking so high and not coming back down. turns out i rode the short bus that day and had both my 12cm case fans blowing in. i wish i had an excuse :(

Here's my CCBWE 0551 UPMW i run it @ 2.6ghz for 24/7...2.85ghz for benching...here's a screenie @ 3ghz @ 1.55v on air Zalman cnps9500.....just wish i had better cooling to give it a good testing.:)

I posted my results of my CCBWE 0546MPMW, now I know on the first page it says "avoid if you want to hit 2.8" Well it does 2.85ghz at 1.45v (shows 1.5v in cpu-z) on air. So it hits 56°c dual prime stable.

Question:
If the cpu won't even boot at 3ghz, is it pretty much worthless to try and get it to 3ghz?

Unless your going to be using CrossFire there is no point in buying that expensive board. Just get an Ultra-D, SLI-DR, or Expert board. The Expert has dropped in price lately. It was like $175 when i checked on Newegg. To me it looks like the CFX would just pose more issues with overclocking cause when i was looking at the official thread on dfi-street people were having some issues. And i've looked at a couple of reviews and at stock at least the NF4 boards are faster.
