Two objections: Prices are not set in stone, with rebates etc. that 1GB version might end-up easily around 249$, if AMD and/or AIBs decide so. Second, after the pcb revision, the 2GB might not unlock anymore. Or it gets quietly EOLed and the 6970 gets it's price lowered a little for consolation. Sounds likely, given the yields of those chips.

But until it happens, we can debate in circles until we fall over. Let's humbly wait and see what happens. :)

The 1GB is aiming to the same market, therefore they have to drop the price to differentiate it, and then they may be able to sell it. As you have answered yourself.

LOL. No, the markets the cards are aimed differ and I have already outlined how. Wheter they need or need not to drop prices, is yet to be seen, will depend on what the GTX560 (that's what the topic is about :D) brings to the table, mainly price-wise. Wow, he wants to say after I saw this card from Gigabyte. Ultimate frequency and the complete structure. The card allows you to change the tension of the MEM and GPU power to control phase and a solid heat sink and mounted components. This cannon, beating the Radeon HD 6970(I think he meant 6870) and has breakfast and GeForce GTX 570!

Too bad I had to mess up the results ... but a few more days and see them all ...

GTX 560 is fine and dandy. but if it is just gtx 460 with some more cores and 100mhz extra overclock, gtx 460 remains pretty damn king.

I'd wait for the final release of the 560 so you can compare.. But the differences are listed here.. The 560 Ti's come stock with 1000 on the core, others come stock as listed in the screeny..

Im going to wait 2 more weeks and see if the 570s drop at all.A evga superclocked 570 is 369 now.

I need to do some reasearch to see how the 570s are over clocking as it looks like people will get 1000mhz on air with the 560 and that pretty much is what a stock 570 performs like right?

Well im not exactly sure as i sold my 570 a while ago but i know the 560s are beasts.. heres a bench of the 560 compared to a 570..

Interesting that the faster clocked Galaxy card is actually cooler under furmark, despite having only 1 fan.... I would prefer an exhaust type card as long as this could happen without excessive noise. Looking forward to seeing other non-reference OCed designs.

They are a little too much for me right now, but thats good though because I wont buy them now. I'd rather wait for the 28 nm cards at the end of this year, my 460s are running fine at 925 / 4200 mhz and tear through everything anyway.

I shall resist sandybridge and GTX 560, and wait for 22 nm CPUs and 28 nm GPUs!!!

I was rather hoping for a lovely phantom version of the 560s from Gainward, those ones are lame.

Well slowly Fermi starts to beat Cayman in frecuency....
And we all know Fermi is better clock/clock.
At 880-900core frecuency( i think many models will be at this frecuency) i think GTX 560 will be equal to 6950 or even better.
And by the way GF114 will be still 332mm^2(let it be from me 350mm^2), anyway smaller 389mm^2 6950 Cayman chip...
So Nvidia will beat AMD in performance/mm^2 ? :clap:
Also 6950 will be beat in TDP too( 180W vs 200W).
After 6950/6970 failure in beating GTX 570 now this?

6970 equals 570 so don't see any reason why that is a failure? 560 launch will be again a good value for consumers.

Depends on the resolution and the number of cards.
If you use 2 or 3 cards, or if you use a higher resolution than 1920x1200, then 69x0 cards perform very admirably; in fact, a much more expensive 580 gets beaten by 6970 in certain scenarios.

Most gamers are using a single 24". and the "old" 580 SLI-scaling problems for those on multi-monitor is fixed by 580-3GB now.
As I promised you about alternatives to 6970-2GB, a few days ago, LOL. We may still see other 2GBs cards tho.

So, they way I look at it, nVidia has the upper hand for most gamers (on 24"), and has a good alternative for multi-monitors too in this round.

$260 US for the gigabyte OC (900MHz)
$280 US for the gigabyte SOC (1GHz)
$290 US for EVGA superclocked (???MHz)

Showing up now on google shopping. $290+tax & shipping is pushing it... might as well spend $50-60 more and have the full 480 shaders and performance of the 570.

Will be interesting to see the OC performance tho, especially of 1GHz is a starting point. Love the white edition from galaxy.

That's a good (and right) order for mainstream fight.

Tomorrow will be existing to see the performance/OCing/consumption-difference between 560 and 6950-1GB/2GB. Based on current info, the difference won't be that big, but it remains to be seen.

The real exiting fight is going to be on price in this round. The most exiting is to see the first prices tomorrow, and the ongoing price-development (in both camps) in near future.

Same as the 460 launch: you have some AIB who have in addition of the stock model, allready 3-4 models OC ( lol, with some with +10mhz difference ). Nvidia lately with middle range gpu's like aggressive launch: - High visibility around Hardware sites ( as you will get plenty of models to review ) Plenty of different prices. Without saying AIB's have got a lot of time and models of the GF104, and know allready what they can do and what they can't do ( for custom coolers, they don't start from scratch ) ... At same time this give a lot of Competition between the different AIB's, and shop.. so low prices . So Nvidia is happy cause the card is cheap, and AIB are happy cause they can be more competitive ( Something AMD should allow faster with their models, AIB price/perf competitions on same GPU's is not bad at all, ofc if the quality is respected )

On the other hand, this let less time for reviewers with each cards, as they have a lot of test to run, and so it's hard to really get a real review of a specific models.. But that's a different story.

Well at 1070/1200(pretty easy) scores P5500( a little higher due the SB at 4.5ghz) in 3d11' and scores higher than a 6970 and a GTX 570 stock.
So i think that at 1050-1070Mhz it's almost equal to 6970.

And for a reference price i get a custom cooler and pcb for GTX 560, cooler and more quiet than 6950 reference.

It's surprising Nvidia have managed to improve the clocks to over 1Ghz. AMD has been near that limit for a longer time yet haven't reached it with factory OC models, I think the new Sapphire Toxic 6870 is closest with 970 Mhz?

I assume you already read 5 or more reviews about price/performance/power consumption at this point in time :confused: not to mention possible price changes after this launch which are very common for any vendor.

custom or reference coolers and OC is all about initial launch and vendor allowed or not, NV doesn't care these days all they care about now is grabbing lost marketshare.
again custom OC is not a reference, perhaps to you sure, but speak for yourself then as an OC fanboy, that is why exactly we need decent reviews, not fanboy OC talk.

its also nice that you link to an overview of load temperature only, are you really sure that you can handle OC yourself at all? :D

I much prefer the look of the Phanton 570, but that thing is crazy expensive, but the Asus 560 looks fantastic as well - Black PCB + cooler with red stripes, more than perfect for my mobo. Also I want a nice matching CPU cooler after it arrives in stock:

Hehe, I'm glad that they made it match the Rog boards, unlike the Asus 460 which had a black PCB and a horrible blue cooler.

That was pretty fugly. Not so much the color, but the shape. Red and black just reminds me too much of the painful 6870 experience. Shat card. :down:

The OCUK price is too much, £230 for the non OCed Asus card!

I'm not buying it for that much.

That would have been nice, I can fit two triple slot cards on my mobo, but only the 570s / 580s have triple slot solutions. No Gainward phantom GTX 560s :(

Lol 5850-5870 are not really a good example, as it was coming from TSMC who was just not able to produce good yields on 40nm. there's a big difference with MSRP and some shop prices who try to get the most client possible on new product launch, and fight on prices, before going back to "normal prices then "

Hmmm... I've just been told we're selling these for ~£170 + VAT. A truckload of stuff got delivered this morning so hopefully they are in there somewhere and I can get one up on the bench.

Just had a quick look at the anandtech review, so much for the 560 'significantly' beating the 6950 :shakes: I am looking forward to overclocking results though, that will surely be the strong string for this card.

It fits nicely into the market, but doesn't bring any considerable changes like the 460 or the 6870 did.

But also, from the anandtech review the 1gb 6950 seems to be on par with the 2gb in most games, even at high resolution :confused: Wish i had bought the 1gb now... although i bought mine for £220 at launch, and of course along with unlocked shaders... an easy 900 core and 1400 memory would be edging out a stock 570 easily. So i'll say my purchase is more than justified :D

Who was expecting 560 'significantly' beating the 6950?

nVidia did a really good job and, I didn't dare to hope it yesterday, but with these results, 560 has a slightly upper hand over 6950-1GB in performance/OCin/power-usage for most gamers (on 24"). But these differences are not so big, to make a big blow in mainstream marked.
It's how it works in maistream. What else did you expect, it should beat the 6990 to satisfy you?

The price of 560 is slightly lower too. This little OC-monster OCs greatly too. So why are you complaining?

That looks pretty significant to me. Why? Because once you game online, AMD's 6870 falls flat on its face compared to similarly priced Nvidia cards in BC2. At least that's been my experience...

hmm maby i should sell my XFX 6970 2gb and pick up a GTX560 instead, i game at 1920x1080 anyway and a less noisy card would be nice.

Anyone reviewing a Gigabyte SoC at this point is using an older version of the card. Gigabyte has delayed their card by a few days in order to fix high idle and load power consumption issues. Seems like some reviewers posted their articles regardless of being told about this. Shame.....
