First run on ASRock 890GX Extreme4. BIOS L0.14M
AMD Phenom II 1055T 125W.
Air Cooler: Scythe Mugen II rev.B 2 fans

^ nice clocks there, can you do some bench on that?
still waiting for that bios for 880G :(
OK. I have some bench on this. Can't bench on 4.34Ghz but i can at 4.18 Ghz
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1...nebench742.png
Does extreme4 have vdroop option in bios hiepgia? What about mem clocking? How much did you obtain on it?
The 2.42B update is RUBBISH! Since updating to this my PC is completely unstable and I am unable to run the my 'stable' OC.
Even after the downgrade the PC constantly freezes and crashes. I'm just about ready to buy a new mainboard!
tkxmoe, try the values for the new settings I left on the post #392. With this settings and for me, 2.42B is more stable than earlies bioses.
A similar thing downgrading happened to me with some earlier bios, where after downgrading to a before completely stable bios, problems of the previously flashed newer version remained. Maybe there's some modifier on some ami flashing utility that fixes this. I use to update bios with F6 and USB...
Or maybe clearing the bios and loading defaults could do the trick.
Hi Davey,
I'll give that ago, as is at the moment it cant do anything for more than 15minutes without crashing. Previously it was prime95 stable for 12hrs. I tried a few clear cmos / reprograms and flash backs but its still unstable.
Dont think ill ever be buying asrock boards again,
Edit
Reflashed and followed your settings, still unstable even at 250*14!
I'd try to flash with AMIBIOS flash utility, instead of F6. There's an option in that utility called "program all blocks". Just maybe.
http://www.ami.com/support/bios.cfm
You could as well e-mail Asrock about the issue, maybe they send you some new bios. With my older Gigabyte K8NF-9 I would contact Gigabyte support and they would send me beta bioses.
Flash from pure DOS using THIS utility. Use the following commands when flashing; AFUDOS.EXE /i<filename>.rom /PBNC /N
You will need to change the Asrock BIOS file extension to .rom
My board went nuts after flashed with a new bios, but i found the issue fast,UCC was ON by default on my 955BE,and that was causing all the mess, after disabling it everything went back to normal. Also you could try disabling CnQ and C1E see if it works.I highly doubt that rewriting the bios is the issue...
I think it's a shame that even 2.42b still enables CnQ randomly after reset, when it's disabled in bios settings.
I'm beginning to think Asrock bios department could be better, just like ATI drivers department.
Asrock BIOS dev are learning still, give them a chance to get to grips with things. They have to learn too.
I hope you can persuade them to change some stuff. To be honest, I gave up after they started to mess for compatibility with the Thuban. Just an example : My question : After betabios xxxx, I'm no longer able to run my rams at 1800Mhz C6. Typical reply : look here a screenshot with 1800C8. My reply : yes but that's not 1800C6. Their reply : you are using 2gb dimms, we are using 1gb ones... and so on ... feels like talking to a brick wall... BIG SIGH
They got a pretty solid lineup with the 890 series... they just don't grasp it yet... teach them how it should be done...
EDIT: Bios 2.43
ftp://174.142.97.10/bios/AM3/890GX%2...3(2.43)DOS.zip
Found it searching in Asrock ftp... link's still not up in the web.
There's only the DOS executable version, no rom and no windows version.
Anyone tried L2.43? I haven't yet.
Can anyone talk to AsRock support telling them to add vdrop feature in 880G too.It has passed 1 month since 890GX has it and 880G not,ffs...
Anyone knows what clock generator this mobo uses?
2.44 OUT
http://www.pctreiber.net/forum/amd_m...4_13910.0.html
Changelog:
-Added "CPU Loadline Calibration" Option
Could be interesting.
Official 2.50 non-beta out
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.as...xtreme3&o=BIOS
They still have to update the AHCI ROM,and improve those damn PSC mems then everything is ok(i think ) :D
U tried 2.50? Are the options from 2.42B there?
2.50 works for me, but can't see anything better, and it still does not offer "safe removal" that I can only get with 2.41G so far
any tip to enable it?
2.50 works on 880G btw
anyone tried this setup? 1:5, is this a hardware + software setup?

@wheelee
will that really work?
^ well that's what i really want to find out since haven't seen a real setup in this configuration
for the VGA's i guess 2 GPU's + 1 IGP = 5monitors & as for the mouse KB's i guess his using some sort of a KVM switch?
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:T...switch.gif&t=1
but what about sound?
the 890GX has a 7.1 output, hmmmm ???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg2q9...eature=related
Haven't tried it myself, interesting nonetheless.
2.50 BIOS works great...
RAM is much cooler and more stable to OC...
ASRock with AMD chipset has many problems with Mushkin RAM,
with the Black Line series, but on BIOS 2.50 all the problem are solved...
Test 2.50 per 880G Extreme3 , if i set CPU voltage to 1.4V in BIOS the voltage reaches 1.480V @3.8GHz in Prime95.
Set the CPU Load Line Calibration to Normal...
Beather to overvolt then volt-drop...
2.50 bios is the worst s*h*i*t bios i've ever come to witness xD
It isn't stable (doesn't boot or hangs a while after boot) for any Loadline calibration option for the settings in my signature, when all the previous bios were fully stable, and 2.42b is rock stable.
The only thing that seems better is memory support. 2.50 detects memory timings correctly when you select 1600Mhz mem. Nice for people who don't know how to set it manually.
2.50 keeps enabling CnQ when it's disabled in BIOS (#%!"@"!$"%&!%%"@!!!)
Asrock, seriously, fire some people in that bios department. Spent 1h 1/2 hours for nothing.
^
+1 on that. When you email them no one will answer. Im thinking twice if I will buy an asrock motherboard in the future.
CnQ doesn't disable here as well with the 2.50 bios. still can't boot 300 htt at 1600mhz mem. so all i got from this bios was the LLC which has pushed down the vcore (both load and idle, oddly) about 0.02v.
It has to be an issue with Thuban X6 CPU's,
because this is the most stable one for my 555BE X2 @ B55 X4 @
4.0 core0
4.0 core1
3.6 core2
3.6 core3
2.50 BIOS -> The best for Phenom II X2/X4...
2.44 BIOS -> The best for Thuban X6
how so? i haven't seen much definitive results from anyone yet. who's running 2.44?
Interesting. I have an 880g and 555BE X2, three cores work, 4th is NG, even at 4x X 800.
I just got mine fired up with a Sempron 140 that will unlock to a 2 core, but no matter what. The system WILL NOT REBOOT. It will power cycle over and over and over C7 is the last it shows before 00...
Any ideas? It came with 2.40 installed, I bumped it to 2.5 and then back down to 2.42b.. no dice.
Fresh bios flash/ clear CMOS it will boot. go into bios fix time etc, it will reboot. But any kind of windows reboot it will just cycle over and over.
Edit: The plan is to get a 1090T, but that wont be till the weekend.
I tried with another CPU, a Phenom II X2 550BE, having same results.
UCC unlocks 4 cores, disabling all cores except core0 and the system can't boot, even raising the CPU voltage.
Tried many BIOS settings + different BIOSes up to the last 2.50.
I think I have a defective board.
What can try?
Well I got my 1055T 95w and I am stuck at 260ht. No amount of voltages settings or anything will get me beyond it. At 260ht its perfectly stable with no issues with all volts other than vcore stock. 261 = no boot codes or blue screen from windows.
I can drop the multi down to keep the cpu below stock speed and it still wont post/boot. I have adjust voltages and multi's down to compensate for the high ht and it still wont successfully boot.
i am at a loss.
Figured out my problem:
Ram. Pure and simple the X6 does not like this ram. I tried it in a 790GX and still limited at 260ht. Plopped in some Crucial basic DDR3-1333mhz and it will boot right up to 295ht now.
I have very good deal on second 8800gt, will it work on this board ? sli hack no go ?
SLI hack is a good go! ;)
Did it with:
3x 8500GT
2x 250GTS
No problem at all.
Now we're gettin some where !! :)

@Hawkeye4077
GREAT OC !!
Can you share your BIOS settins from this OC result. I' curious about voltages (NB, CPU, HT, MEM) and memory timings. I have similar setup as you. What kind of CPU voltage your mobo is setting on AUTO.
ASrock messed up with the 890GX, I had amasing clockability with the early biosses. Though once they focused on Thuban they messed some codes up... loosing even 1800C6 action...
I hope they can get their act together and clear up some of the mess they made...
This is a great board
If you still can find it (eSys, Asbis), then VX/HX450W or greater for 500HRK,
or get from Links the LC Power GP3 series of 560W, its amazeing.
I have the 460W GP3 model and i run the 4870x2 with no problem,
then i get the "juice sucker" 3870x2, and no problem.
Then i moved to the 2x 250GTS, still no problem.
Then i got to the 3x 4850HD, and the PSU wasnt enough (keept restarting in furmark).
But seriously, LC-Power 560W with 80+ Bronze cert., great PSU.
PS - If You willing to pay some more, look for the Ozeanos Metatron 650W modular.
2x 460GTX 1gb MSI Cyclone with no problem (i5 760 @ 4GHz, ASRock P55 Extreme4, 2x 4GB Corsair XMS3 1333 CL9-9-9-24, 64GB SSD Corsair + 2TB WD Green, and some other stuff).
Works like a charm.
PS - I have 2x 8800GT working with my old SmartBox from 2006, made by CWT (CWT 420W is inside). The new smartbox with black label is peace of :banana::banana::banana:.
I'm done. I cannot get more than 3500MHz on my 1055T.
My actual and stable settings are:
Cpu Frequency: 250MHz
CPU Multiplier: x14
CPU Clock: 3500MHz
CPU Voltage: 1.4V
NB Multiplier: x9 (2250MHz)
CPU-NB voltage: 1.35V
HT Multiplier: x8 (2000MHz)
Memory Clock 3/8: 1333MHz (8-8-8-24 2T)
Memory Voltage: 1.63V
CPU VDDA: 2.7V
I've tried on bios 2.50 and 2.42B. I've tried rising CPU-NB and Vcore voltage up to 1.45V and still cannot go past 3500MHz stable. I'm testing stability using Linx. Cooling is not a problem because CPU temperature is always under 55 degrees (hwmonitor). PSU is not the problem because it's powerfull Seasonic M12-D 850W. Memory is Adata 1600 Plus and it goes up to 1600MHz on CPU multiplier x10.
So what can be the problem with stability >3500MHz ? Any help ?
No cooler is not the reason. On BOX cooler it was a problem, because after 59 degrees computer was shutting down. Now I have Thermalright Ultra 120 with two push and pull fans. On LinX I have about 55-56 degrees at 3500 MHz. My temps are ok.
---- NEWS ----
I found the cure for OVERCLOCKING 1055T on 880G@890GX. There is no NB voltage! OC Tuner is a LIE!
In bios there is something called mGPU voltage. Since GPU is the same chip as NB and it's stock voltage is 1.4V ... I've bumped this voltage to 1.5V and overclock improved a lot!
Still testing but this may be a clue for all bad 1055T ocing on this mobo.
This thing really does require work when you hit above 3800/3850, my 1055t 125 w which will do 4ghz stable@1.48 in my Asus M4A785D-M PRO (about half the price and half the power phase 4+1 vs 8+2) and stable I mean months of wcg at that speed, I swapped it into the asrock and had to settle for 3.8 @1.45 board overvolts to1.5v for stability.
Just dropped the 1055t 95w in, which will do 4ghz@1.4v, I cant hit 4ghz, 3.9 is taking 1.45 with the board showing 1.5v and not stable yet. Same ram/psu etc.
I know the vrm get hot on my asus, I have them sinked fans blowing on them, if not the board would throttle. However the asrock has factory heat pipe, noticed yesterday strange smell, looked closer and saw some grease like substance on the vrm area, pulled board/heat pipe and the thermal tape has started to liquefy, the vrms and surrounding area are covered in this grease. Going to clean it mount a thermalright on the vrm(although my hr-09s is somewhat to large will need to mod it slightly ) and mount a thermalright on the chipset see what happens.
When I pulled the heat pipe there was small balls of solder, thought nothing more than bad quality control. After installing my own vrm cooler and pulling it there was more balls of solder, this is after a thorough clean, the vrm area was getting that hot it was liquefying the solder then it would harden. Anyway the long and the short of it, the board gave up the ghost, magic smoke appeared from the choke at the bottom of the power phase caps, the one to the right of "PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot" (lz R27). Amazingly it still posted, but have pulled everything and no further testing.
Applied for RMA and informed them of what I have been doing to trouble shoot, removing heat pipe etc, warranty is void and they wont accept it back.
Now the bottom line is this it has been in a well ventilated room/case from that day I bought it 6.5 months ago, nothing in that time was done to the heat pipe cooling or anything else, only overclock on air with an x6@3.8 4gb ram, it was on 24/7 as I crunch. I feel the power phase/vrms are under serious pressure with an x6 overclocked and a beefing up of this area along with better cooling is something manufacturers should look at.
cheers
Not too shabby at HTT :D

@shenlong
The bios you have posted is for 890gx extreme3. On website is mislabeled as a bios for ASRock 890FX Extreme 3.
Any chance that Asrock releases an UEFI bios for this board?, or at least some new bios...
Seems Asrock is releasing UEFI bios for plenty of its boards...
Unfortunately Asrock is releasing new BIOSes only for motherboards with AM3+. They have made 880G/890GX Extreme 3 obsolete. Latest bios for 880G Exteme 3 was released over a year ago (6/24/2010).
I am not happy with ASROCK policy. I should have bought ASUS. They still supporting 2+ year old motherboards.
Same here. This has to be the worst bios support of all my previous (counting...) 5 PC boards.
I've written to Asrock asking for UEFI and/or new bioses that improve stability for 890GX (2.42 beta bios is a lot more stable for my overclock than latest 2.50).
Here's the link so you all can write too, maybe that way... :-?
http://www.asrock.com/support/tsd.asp
Have a nice day!
someone know why our motherboards is without am3+ bios support? even nforce4 motherboards have new bios :-( why asrock kills this board...
Good News Everyone!
AM3+ BIOS for 880G and 890GX Extreme3:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?o=...80G%20Extreme3
http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?o=...0GX%20Extreme3
Good find!!!
I have one that used to run a 1055t before I got my dual C32... Looks like I have an open door to Bulldozer
please if you buy bulldozer make few test on this mobo i want to upgrade my athlon x3@x4 and choosing between phenom x6 and fx-8120 :-)
Im currently deployed, but depending on the outcome of my Dual C32 system, I may be working on the FX8150 (or higher) the day I get home (next spring)!
I've just tried bios 3.10 in my 890GX Extreme3... it's way less stable than 2.42B with the same settings, but somewhat better than 2.50, as I expected.
So far FX8150 + 890GX Extreme 3 = a loss. I have never had so many problems trying to get the system stable. Default settings, the system is not stable. I can only get it to work reliably if I downclock to 3ghz and disable turbo core. When it freezes, there is no blue screen or anything. Just a hard freeze that requires a power cycle. Ive tried the beta 3.03 bios and the release 3.10 bios.
Anybody else try this board with Bulldozer yet?
Ram has run fine in 3 diff computers, and on this motherboard when I had a 1055T in it.
LLC is disabled (bios defaults to auto)
Edit:
Seems to work fine with only 2 cores enabled in bios, turbo and all. I suppose the CPU could be bad, but I'll wait till the 990FX Extreme3 comes in next week and try there before RMA'n the CPU.
Well the board has worked fine for almost 2 years with an assortment of other CPUs. But the board was one of the last that ASRock gave BD support in regards to older 890 boards. We'll see and I hope you are right :)

It looks like ASROCK engineers are reading them. Even if you get 990FX Extreme3, maybe they will release new bios that will make 890GX Extreme3 future proof for the rest of us.
Any one know will Vishera work with bulldozer bios ?
Attachment 130876Attachment 130877Attachment 130878Attachment 130879
This is the replay from ASRock if 880G Extreme 3 supports Vishara.
I detached stickers with 880G Extreme 3 and found under 890GX Extreme3.
Nice, thanx Muraretu !
8320 is on my list then, is it worth to upgrade from my present chip ? I use virtual box-s for work, some gaming and crunching for WCG ...
New beta BIOS 3.10B for 890GX Extreme 3 in http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Mo...0GX%20Extreme3
Changelog: Modify OCZ Vertex4 SSD can not be recognized under RIAD ROM. (Require beta SATA RAID driver)
It's -20kB zipped too, meaning something else could have been modified too. Haven't tried it.
hope they make same bios also for my 880g :/
FX-8300 on my wishlist
Any chance to have a FX-8320/FX-8350 full stable (no throttling) over 890FX?
(with my Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3 especially)
