Welcome back.
I like what I am seeing so far. The design on the front door reminds me of the WCG logo. :)

Welcome back.
I like what I am seeing so far. The design on the front door reminds me of the WCG logo. :)
K, so the PSU is sleeved, but in my haste I forgot to mark the wires, so the end heatshrink has to come off one at a time tomorrow so I can plug the 24-pin together correctly ;) - once that is done I get to embark on the hardest wiring task of this build which might actually take me a few days to get right ;)
Less talk and more pretty pictures :) looking forward to an update
And the famous last words,
This wont take that long ;)
lol, so if every time I referred to this project, I referred to it as project http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/5181/flowcutlogos.jpg what would you guys do?
(yes I am very bored at work)
Holey Moley! Seriously looking forward to seeing this build in all its glory :D:D
How long have you been doing this kinda thing? -if ya dont mind me asking :)
Thanks man :)
My first mod was a painted gamecube console, Red casing with black accents :) I thin painted an Xbox case, and I also bought a crystal edition xbox in france in 2005 and installed a 80mm cold cathode around the xbox logo Jewel :D
If you count from the beginning of my LC endeavours - back in 2006 I had an Optie 165 @ 3ghz under a thermaltake bigwater 735, with a real LC system in 2006 based on dangerden parts
Modding Wise, my first aesthetically oriented build was in 2007 with a PC101A. Last fall I said to myself "I am going to get on MDPC" and that was a success with Permafrost by January of this year, and now this project :)
So I got an email from Lamptron today that my Fan controller is finished and about to ship! here are pictures from My contact at Lamptron :clap:
http://www.legitreviews.com/images/r...ptron_Logo.jpg
This design is based on the Lamptron FC3 fan controller which can be found at many fine retailers:
http://www.lamptron.com/product.php?p_id=58
The funny thing about this is I made two designs, the first was originally deemed un-manufacturable, but they have got some really Smart engineers and machinists over at Lamptron and they pulled off BOTH faceplate designs!
This is just one example of the extremely high quality milling and manufacturing coming out of Lamptron - Definitely give them a look for your next fan controller :yepp:

Seriously I cannot thank Lamptron enough for their receptiveness, great communication and most of all the High Quality Custom parts they made for me! :D:D:D
^^ is gorgeous
and it will probably be easier for you to source the measurements :D
PSU Pics: dont mind the cluttered look, I have about 800 P-clips of various sizes to make these wires straight as a ruler and very very hidden :)

I thought you weren't sleeving this one?
edit; design 1 looks sick, hope that one your going with :yepp:
Aw, FREAKING awesome if I do say so myself! I can't wait for my next upgrade so I can do the chop, cut, rebuild routine :D
EDIT: And what, may I ask, are P-clips?
you wont see any of these sleeves in the final product ;) it will all become apparent in due time :)
thanks paul :) I think the sleeving sould have come out a touch better, but it will suffice for being hidden behind everything.
indeed :D they are kinda expensive at the larger sizes actually, but worth the cleanliness :)
Update:
http://johnkemeny.com/blog/wp-conten...PCs%20logo.jpg
Hank Baron of Performance PCs was kind enough to sponsor me with this lovely Black Ice GTX 420 radiator; Following is the Unboxing and pictures of this masterful work of a radiator, it may have tight fin spacing but it sure does make the jaw drop.
The Box, nice to see something other than plain old cardboard on the outside
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6088/7226365.jpg
The Radiator Arrived in pristine condition, not a bent fin in sight with all accessories included
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/50/7226367.jpg
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/9053/7226368.jpg
The included BP fatboy 1/2" barbs installed :D
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/998/7226370.jpg
The first fan with its extended wire and counter bored screw holes - I did all six fans on the drill press tonight and the wire extensions for all the fans should be done tomorrow ;) so I will have pics of them all installed.
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/402/7226373.jpg
just wow the fan controllers are amazing your cabling job is very clean this is going to turn out to be one very amazing computer
those counterbores = win. nice work Ian
I simply love the Black Ice Rad. I will have one going in my custom case project as well. It is so very special.
Nice PSU, never seen anyone Sleeving quite the way you do, and i mean the Shrink length, not the colour!
and what about those red connectors on psu :)
psu Sleeving looks great
nice sleeving job, but what about the pa140.3 test sample?
So I got all of the fans sleeved and extended last night- hooked them up on the rad and DAMN push-pull really is all its cracked up to be.
-With just 3 d12sm 12 on this rad I was getting very very low airflow through the radiator - like 15CFM if I had to warrant a guess.
-Now with all six fans there is nearly (very very close) open air CFM flowing through the radiator and nearly NO increased noise level to boot. even at the full 1400rpm these things are damn near silent - each fan on its own is comparable to a 1850rpm GT. Next we will get the lamptron FC in there and really get :rocker:
Wiring updates tonight, I am half way done with 24-pin :D
Looks good so far. I like your custom fan controller ... is it working okay (as in no whining when it's turned down from 100%?).
Now hurry up and show us your wiring solution (please :) ).
I have not received the fan controller yet (not my pictures, lamptron's) it is currently on DHL international express to me :D
:p: Unfortunately I have this thing that I go to during the day from 8-4:30 Monday thru Thursday, I think they call it a yob or something.... anyway, its really obstructing my modding time....:rofl:
Glad you like the Black Ice rad, I am enjoying mine as well. Maybe I oughtta do push-pull with 3 more Ultra Kaze 3000s...:eek::eek:
I obviously can't speak for the custom one, but I have the regular face plate controller from Lamptron (this type), and it's dead silent - I also have a Logisys fan controller that squeals like a stuck pig
Good to hear some are having success with the Lamptron controllers. I have the FC-2 - love the looks but I get the squeal with the fans turned down.
Sorry 'bout that job stuff, S_D. Another 40 years or so and you'll be a free man :p: (but, trust me, updates don't come faster when you're retired - cause you think you have loads of time and it's easier to get sidetracked).
*thinks* contest for one of the faceplates...I wonder which one...
and giving me evil ideas
Thankyou guys very much :bows:
I guess I have kind of hyped this wiring solution up a bit.... I hope you guys like it :)
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9948/7236379.jpg
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1482/7236382.jpg
probably more pics of stuff tonight, well see what I decide to do with myself....
Holy :banana::banana::banana::banana:.
Do want.
Very clean. me likes the wiring a lot
you (................................................. .................................................. ..........................) > rest of the world dude! :D
ooh my god
I had the same idea for wiring! I was going to use it for my new mod.
Guess I won't be original anymore :(.
Amazing!
Perfect m8! :eek::eek::eek:
Wow, that looks amazing. Did you get to use your new drill press for that part of this project? I can't wait to see the rest of the motherboard wiring.
Oh yeah ... that does it for me! Very, Very, Very Nice, SNiiPE_DoGG.
how on earth did you get those holes?
Lazer?
waterjet?
mill?
Nice sniipe, the wires turned out really well!
I'm still trying to get used to the painted Supreme hold-down plate, i reckon you should have left it stock (chrome). Just my opinion.
cleanest 24 pin i've ever seen '-'
holy :banana::banana::banana::banana:
very nice idea very clean that is taking cable manigment to a hole new level
did you use a drill press or use cnc?
he used a drill press
any1 else think that it would look better if he had 4x 4890 or a killer nic/sound card in the center of gpus like its trapped
edit- sniipe just informed me on vent that he did not use a drill press and actually has lasses for eyes so cut the holes with that
YESSSSSSS!!!!! I HATE the stock faceplate but I love the controller itself! What a contest this shall be... though I may be out of the state as it goes on :(
EDIT: Bigtime wow on the wiring. If I had that much space behind my mobo tray... *mind begins to think evil, evil thoughts* ;)
Wow that looks awesome. What tubing is that? Really attractive colour of blue :)
Is that the EK Supreme CPu waterblock btw? And you're painted the mounting thingy black?
just wondering what other options there are for an AM3 CPU block, they seem a little limited.
Just want to start off with: there are SO many thats what she said jokes in here  I'm not even gonna go there
Can Have :D some delrin, and a 7/64 drill bit :)
Cheers :toast:
Haha, originally I wanted to do it straight from the PSU but a couple things stopped me from doing that - One was the difficulty to access the solder points inside my PSU and the other was the lack of control I would have over the wires with long wires all the way to the PSU, I had to be very very meticulous with my wire cutting and crimping to get these the right length, it sucked and was so tedious to be honest
Thanks DP :)
Hehe, thats a big compliment man, I am always trying to bring up my own new things, so far it looks like this one is a hit :)
:D
Hey man I know the feeling, has happened to me many times in my time modding :\. For me I am always thinking and twisting around ideas in my head, and I try to implement my best ones, but a lot of the time I dont get around to them and they just sit in there until someone else does them first :) thats why you have to have many ideas ;). And the least we can say is - Great minds think alike :toast:
Thanks animaN :)
Indeed the drill press was key, best tool I have bought.... ever.
Glad you like it sharon, I wanted to show it off a long time ago but it was never quite ready, I made the prototype plate like 3 weeks ago but I messed up with the spacing a bit so I couldn't show it.
This was all hand made from a piece of 1/4" thick delrin using a drill press - I used solidworks to figure out the hole spacing, hashed out the cut area with the sharp ends of my digital calipers and used the hand center punch to finalize the hole locations. I then used my drill press to make the holes with the aid of some clamps and a piece of 90degree alu extrusion as the X-axis guide to keep the holes in a perfect straight line. Lastly I sanded with 100 then 320 and primed once and painted 4 coats of satin black krylon spray paint - sun dried for 24 hours.
TY twwen :)
I have both a black plate and a chrome one, I may try switching it around but I craze getting away from stock so I think I will stick with the black ;)
 thankyou Blizzy
Thankyou STRMX and yes I used a drill press as mentioned above
lol zanz :p:
I will make the controller contest accessible, I still have not finalized the date, but if you have followed FUGGER's recent Simon Says contest, then you know what type of madness to expect from mine ;). Ladies and gentlemen ready your watercooling parts freed from the case of your computer. (big hint for my worklog readers)
As for the space behind the mobo tray, its funny you mention that lol because in this case there is very very little, I will be squeezing wires tighter than ever here!
And since I said I would have more pictures, here is one to finish off tonight
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/1632/7236378.jpg
EDIT: wouldnt want to miss dreamaxx :)
Its my always faithful primochill pro LRT blue 3/8"-5/8" tube, it is a nice color when lit brightly with white light, not so much in a dim room.
and yes its EK supreme with the accelerator plate removed and the bracket powdercoated black. -it s a shame there arent so many AM3 blocks, but HK3.0 and EK supreme are both am3 compatible so youve got two of the top performers right there.
beautifully done with the fans
AMAZING WORK! Just absolutely loving it snipe :)
Post it up on OCAU :)
Also, I think I'll go with the EK supreme, I already have a HK3.0 :)
Hell yeh! I'm bored, need another build already :) This one will be a more transportable (Read <26kg!) HTPC that I can also take to lans with me. AMD Phenom II X2, same MSI board as Snipe has here, and a 4870 :) Probably stick a tv tuner card in there too (anybody recommend one, was looking at this gigabyte one that seems ok). Not gonna go all out on watercooling this time, distilled only, probably only a 240 rad (only thing to fit into my mid sized case), and of course the frozen Q res. :)
Lans. . . .. . . Are you sure there are lans here lol.
Oh and just admit it. You are building a whole new system because of that res right? I know the truth >__>.
Hahaha :) Blue and black theme :) Wanted something a little different but still handsome! :D
The cable solution is simply... awesome:clap:
A very good job so far mate and different :)
I like it, very cool idea with that 24pin cable. :)
Sniipe, that 24pin is F**KING amazing! Top work bud.
I just broke my jaw - holy cow man - you put into practice what I've never been able to do or get done right!
~Bex
So fresh and so Clean! Really impressive refreshingly new idea!
Bravo Ian!
Outstanding execution!
I look forward to seeing how it fits in with the overall design. :)
Such a genius idea! And it looks so good! :):)
MOAR PICS! =D
Oh, and how do I "subscribe" to builds?
Hey guys, a HUGE thank you to all of you guys for your support and kind words - I would do a multiquote but I figure I would get a little repetitive ;)
@Dreamaxx: I will be consolidating the build log into a single massive post and spreading it to many forums after the build is finished, the simple fact is I just cant handle maintaining any more active update work logs than I am now.... Its a bit overwhelming really.
@ salty, just by posting in this thread it probably subscribed you in your "User CP" at the top left
Preliminary video of the build, enjoy (there will be a full at the end :D) also this my dads photography mostly ;) very nice lighting
http://dennishelmar.com/video/
Damn SD, I love the setup of that 24 pin. That is just amazing.
Very nice work SNiiPE!
:( I just noticed my WMP is borked. . .BIG TIME! All your blue was an eerie orange and red black connectors were teal.
It's looking mighty fine SNiiPE. I love what you did with the 24 pin power cable... the individual holes.
Hey Snipe, is the mounting for AM2 the same as AM3? I ask because the EK Supreme LT (which now comes in very sexy plexi+nickel) has AM2 support. I was wondering if it will also fit the AM3 platform. If anyone would know it'd be you :D
*nerdgasm*
AM2 and AM3 are the same mounting holes and the plate comes with the supreme -- its still a good idea to get a metal backplate, I used the thermalright
thankyou guys for the comments, my dad is working on learning video and so far he is doing a really great job :D
there is a new version of the video at the same url (http://dennishelmar.com/video/) enjoy :D
SNiiPE? May I request a smaller version of the vid for those of us whose hardware chokes on the high-res video data?
sniipe amazing stuff as always.
I would like to know, about your wiring. What did you do, just replaced the stock cable for a bunch of cables with the same colour and soldered them to the PSU??
It looks absoloutely amazing Ian, I love it. Very unique, I want to copy it now :P
It's like, why didn't I think of that.
one other thing, SNiiPE. Before installing that granite you said is going to be part of the build, get it checked with a geiger counter. Some granite contains elements that can give off radon gas, which is a very serious health risk and which can cause errors in non-radiation-hardened chips.
Sniipe, I have to hand it to you. You got the presentation down, the creativity and the attention to detail to elevate your builds above most that I've seen. It's really inspiring. Love the music in that video.. very theatrical and really brings the project to life.
I'm working on a project right now that I hope I'll be able to instill some of the same creativity in. I've always thought of a computer as an organic, living thing and not just a hunk of metal, so I've always tried to portray it as such. You're doing a good job of that. Well done, my man.
Each time I think there's no way this could get any better, Ian, you find a new way to prove me wrong and I couldn't be HAPPIER about it!
SD-
In post 271, you show a pic of the case basically broken down to some of its barest parts.
After looking at some close up pictures of the V2010 and V2110 cases (I don't have either one handy to check in person), it appears that certain parts are fastened together with rivets.
How did you get these apart and/or the rivets taken out? And given the rivets, how do you get it back together again in the end?
Anyways, just curious for my own general knowledge and modding purposes. I was taking a close look at a V2010 last night as a possible WC home, but there are parts on it I'd want to take out or change around and they appear to be areas riveted together.
Keep up the great work. Thanks!
My dad saw this and added the lower res version :) I think he is putting up an MP4 for those with WMP issues. EDIT: Mp4 file is up under www.dennishelmar.com/video2
all of the blue wire is done on extensions or modular connectors. I opened up the PSU to solder wires in there and said to myself "there is no way in hell I am ripping apart this $300 PSU with the difficult places these solderpoints are in."
here here, I dont mind if anyone copies :) I did this so people would have more options with their case's wiring :)
hmm yes, radon is no good ;\ I will look into this
Cheers Xion X2, I am glad my work can have an effect and inspire others, it is one of the best parts of doing modding like this :D
hehe, thats what this build is about, shot putting peoples expectations over the fence  :toast:
The case is all help together with 1/8" pop rivets. To remove them you use a 1/8" drill bit and just drill at the center of the rivet, and to put new ones in after all you need is a handheld rivet gun (any hardware store) and the proper rivets (some are countersunk some are standard - both can be found at mcmaster-carr)
cheers, and thankyou for the compliments
thankyou p0Pe :) I will not be doing the GFX wires the same way, in every build there is improvement to be had in hindsight, I guess that just leaves the door open for next time
Dude, you really have my deepest respect! This is FANTASY!!!!! ;) Keep it going ;)
Thank you greatly warmaster, things keep turning out better than i could have even imagined, lets just hope I don't hit any snags :fact:
Granite is finished cutting :) Hedgehog has made his return :p: I just kinda forget sometimes to put him in pics...
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1027/7266384.jpg
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5235/7266387.jpg
august 1st ticking close to it
What a video, Ian! I am extremely impressed.
*Camera Geek Break* Was the video done with your 5D mkII? */Camera Geek Break*
I might have to try my hand at solid-color cabling, or at least individual sleeving, next time I rip my rig apart :)
he has five days to finish this for the LAN, should be interesting to see what the added pressure brings to the build... :) keep up the as always amazing work Ian!
Granite? Its certainly an interesting idea, but you may need a forklift to move it once its done... :P
This is going to look incredible with all the lights and things shining off that surface though.... mmmm. Once again, awesome work, awesome photos! And has your Hedgehog got a name? (Please, please don't have called him sonic. :D)
granite pieces only weigh 7lbs :) and yes the deadline is breathing down my neck big time...
Well, with the Granite, you can now lap your CPU inside the case. :ROTF:
Looking really good SD, that case is going to be a bit hefty though. I hope you won't have to carry it far when you get to the lan. Good luck on it. Keep the pics coming too. No pressure :p:
SD, new question going back a few pages.
Those SLI/Crossfire fittings between the vid cards: are those the Danger Den ones with a B P fatboy barb outlet?
Thanks.
I've been gone all weekend so this was really nice to come back to and see. as everyone else already said - nice work.
the wiring execution is one of those things where you look at it and think "well, that makes sense." like it was expected to be the next evolution in wiring, we were just waiting for someone to think of it :p: really nice execution on that although I can only imagine how tedious it really was to do all of that. I can't see what else you are going to include in this build, it certainly is an exciting build log to follow!
Ian: Nice photography as always!!! Will your daddy adopt us all? I adore you for having this superhuge softbox thing - very cool to have I believe
Cable solution:
Sorry to say, but there are always people who did something before
A German (... :D) had the same solution with ATX to plate in seperate holes in September 2008. Only difference though: he sleeved it and just had three cables visible. Very neat:
http://www.abload.de/img/c5x425250few.jpg
Of course he is not a photographer ... just a "solder-man" :D Would have been cool if you would have the part sleeved. But that's just personal taste.
More about it if you like to see what others do Ian: http://www.sysprofile.de/id66864
Interesting to see it again here in the USA by you :)
Lol! WIN, althought it might make it kinda dirty inside
:help: haha, I am definitely going to be able to cary it, hopefully the case comes back from paint today, if not then it will be back tomorrow morning 7am
yes you got it right
Thankyou Rise :) very tedious indeed
While I understand that you like sleeve wires nils (;)), I refuse to call that solution pictured the same as mine just because he has 3 holes that go through the motherboard tray.
The thing is, if you knew the incredibly exact lengths I had to cut each wire to, how many wire lengths I went through to get each end insulation stripped off just right, how many individual pins I crimped to the wires before I got them exactly the way I wanted and how long it took me to hand measure, place and drill all 24 holes for the wires - then you too would understand why I don't consider it the same.
3 holes and sleeving the wires would have taken me about 30 minutes to complete, this took me more than a week of practice and refinement to get right.
The wright brother's made the first plane that flew a few hundred yards before crashing, does that meant they get credit for making the first plane to circumnavigate the globe?
In other news!
I tapped the res a few days ago, leak tested and everything was great, last night I set up the res in loop with the waterblocks and found that the flow was decreased too much by the EK supreme for the res waterfall effect to work properly. so I talked to Hank today and I got another ddc3.2 and ek-ddc x-top and this rig will be going dual pump! :woot:
It's great to see variations :)
Without experimenting, nothing would happen in modding, so it's cool to see :)
Thanks SD
Another question for you if you don't mind (I sound like Colombo...).
How much clearance is there between the top edge of the motherboard when mounted in that chassis and the top of the case? Like how many mm distance is it between the two?
I'm asking to get an idea of whether or not there is space there to mount a decent sized rad up there or not, if need be, in a V2010B which is the essentially the same case as yours.
TIA!
