hmm i was under the impression it was a single pcb, shame i was excited for this and now im not sure if i should be =(
adding one more 260/216 is going to pretty much get me where this thing would. Eff it and it's heat lol.
Nothing. This card isn't any more cumbersome and unwieldy than any other GX2 card in the past. I especially like the argument that it's too powerful, and nothing will be able to surpass it for a long time. That's certainly stopped the GPU industry before!
Some people here have lost their minds.
Anyone who would say this is too powerful would then have to say GTX260 SLI is also... which this basically is, but riding a single pci-e interface.
come on who going to post first andre or vince its the the 8th january here in the uk :D
yawn
its almost 9th here :D
me and dinos wanna see benchmarks not pics of the card :D
GTX 295 is like the super ugly child that nobody wants. You can tell how serious Nvidia takes this card by the poo design. Stopgap!
I am excited for the GTX 285, though. Step-up time! :)
Interesting this is gonna force the rpice of 4870x2's down and seems it may have forced the gtx280 down to a lil more than $300.
They're now on the egg for $500 by 4 manufacturers.
Sapphire's 4870 X2 is on the Egg for $399 after rebate. Granted it's a Sapphire rebate for $50 so all bets are off, but still, $400? Even if the 295 is just a step above vaporware if it forces prices down on the 4870 X2 then we all win.
Maybe not, but for God's sake, at least use the newest ones...Quote:
drivers alone don't dictate the absolute performance of the hardware
Do you guys think that a Corsair HX 520W PSU could run this card? I'm currently using a GTX 280 @ 650core/1472shader/2300ram, Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 8GB RAM, X-Fi, 5 120mm case fans, 3 HDD's, etc. with it. I am taking one of the HDD's out shortly to put in a different system. I'm *this* close to selling my 280 and going for the 295, since I would need a new PSU for a second 280. I figure I can get $270-300 on the 'bay for the 280 I have, for an upgrade cost of ~200, vs. 300 for a GTX + 100 for a new PSU. I'm running 1680x1050, though I may upgrade to 1920x1200 at some point it won't be for awhile likely unless I skip this and go for a 23" S-IPS LCD :p.
I don't know how some of you manage to care so much about this card.
It's a solid competitor for the 4870X2, and that's it. Had it come out months and months
ago... It would be genuinely "exciting," but I think we're long past that point.
For someone whose waited this long for Nvidia's go at a dual GPU card, it will satisfy.

These cards are now for sale on Newegg:

$499.99 is the sales price!
This card should bring some green back in the mix to the top single card scores.
Hi all, which one would be better? 2x GTX295 or 3x GTX285? I don't know but I think the GTX295's would be better (I've seen some results here on XS and they are awesome), wouldn't they?

As you can see, most games are a wash with the same playable in-game settings. So when it comes down to it the gameplay experience is the same between the BFGTech GeForce GTX 295 and AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2.

ok, but in total unplayable settings with horrible micro-stuttering on both cards ...
Totaly Atifanboy post, look at other resolutions ...
lol look who is talking
well; 240 shaders per core...mmmm
yeah i looked at the computer base pages...
depends still on games and settings particularly at high AA 8x at 16x12 (19x12?) and 4x-8x at 2560x1600.
@16x12 with 4XAA gtx 295 will be ahead in many games i think. 4870x2 still seems to own at 8xAA

Hardware.fr review

Nvidia unveiled its new high-end in mid-December. A preannounce to impede AMD for sales of Christmas, which is fair game. Nvidia has however taken the opportunity to organize its previews controlled GeForce GTX 295 offering an exclusive to a handful of publications, in exchange for which they agreed to test the map of how the marketing department had decided Nvidia , ie focusing around 5 games chosen by Nvidia, plus a free game.
Remember, Nvidia had already tried to organize around limited testing of these 5 games between the Radeon HD 4870 1GB and GeForce GTX 260 +, with little success. With the promise of exclusivity many colleagues have now been more understanding, though some have the honesty to specify the conditions of the test, indicating that the information was interesting until a comprehensive test while others without fear of ridicule, were explained to have "chosen" these games because they are more representative of the moment.
AMD had also organized such previews for its Radeon HD 4870 X2, but this time for "thank" the publications that have agreed to ignore the fact that the Radeon HD 4850 was available on the market before the end of the embargo for the press. These previews controlled obviously harmful to the objectivity of the information. This test is, as you will understand, not part of the preview program and we used our usual protocol.

Guys just chill, one game goes to ATI , one to Nvdia and one to S3virge... It always has been like that and always will be... some games are better coded for a particular card or driver... Both are top notch cards and too powerfull for most our needs... I just wished these GPU's wouldn't consume so much and put out less heat...and would drop drastically in price :p
Good Job Onethreehill finding all them reviews mate
When can we expect to see 285 vs. 295 reviews?
Not quite sure I want to pull the trigger on ordering a 295 just yet before I see how much better a 285'll be compared to my 4870 @ 1920x1200.
Any info on how much PPD will GTX 295 be doing? :)
Our review here :)
On JAN 15 I will update this review with GTX285/GTX280/4850X2 and the graphs will all start from 0 :)

As announced in our GTX 295 review, we deliver this article to test the effect of the latest drivers on the high-end cards. We used the same test system as we did in the GTX 295 review, but installed the Geforce 181.20 WHQL respectively the Catalyst 8.12 Hotfix which is distributed by AMD and is said to increase the performance with a multithreading optimization of the workload. The Geforce 181.20 WHQL is also available for download already.
EVGA GTX 295 Backplate
This is a special backplate for the EVGA GTX 295. This backplate will help transfer heat from the backside of the card, and stabilize the card. It looks great and works in SLI/Quad SLI.

what was the use in reviving this thread again?
if only the usable VRAM is more than 896MB (is it? lol i am not sure)
otherwise i'd trade my 2nd BFG 280GTX to this
also wahts the deal with GTV limiting video settings based on VRAM ... the xxxMB / (MB of amount of VRAM u got)
