Wait until I submerge mine in sunflower oil :hehe:

Hai guys, ain't spoke in this thread for quite some time.
Just read through all 17 pages
Bit confused about the heatsinks & Backplates, Dave ordered them, they're with Jcool now? Not too concerned about that right now just wondering:).
Anyway. Some of you might be interested.

Update on my situation.
All my rigs will be up tomorrow!
Got my final HDD for the P4. so I'll have 5 systems up. They've been down for a while since I've been doing my room up. Will be updating my thread soon :)
Got $60 right now to put towards my Xeon, if theres no word about the heatsinks im looking at http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=849289
Either the above or the ram from http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(29845)...67MHz-PC2.aspx / Ebay.
Naw, they're en route to Jaco, stuck in Belgian customs :/
I'll just stick mine under L2N and show all you :banana::banana::banana::banana:es up :p:
'course, I also have to BUY one first :p: Stupid lack of job and lack of money
You know that auction that I got out of at $160.00 2 days ago?
That scumbag sends me a second chance offer tonight.
Dumb bastage he is.
48 hours after the end he's saying the winner hasn't paid him yet?
The rule of thumb on ebay is you have 7 days to pay.
Add in that this winner "supposedly" bought her first purchase from him and it went well and he's doing a second chance after 48 hours?
Either he's as dumb as a fencepost of he thinks I am.
I sent it all to eBay security and asked thay they dump both of them..
His message to me:
"She didn't pay me, I need money, so if you want, you can buy it. thanks"
He's Vietnamese so I sent him this:
"Tam Biet Irene"
Tam biet is good night!
yea, I was at $110.00 before "she" cut in and he sends me a second chance offer at my max of $160.75..He can kiss my ass.
I tried the pin mod with a pair of 1667's last year and got nothing.
I do have every piece of paper that I could find on these.
PM me your email addy and I'll send what I have.
Yeah, I was going to suggest checking into setfsb, it's nice that the source is available, but not in English... You could try sending off an email to the author providing the information he requests on the site.
Good 'ol PIC 8-bit microcontrollers, they're used to teach the embedded systems course :)
I've been looking into seeing what's possible to do in linux, since there's kernel support for I2C (of which SMBUS is a subset) and tools available for use. I guess the one thing I'm still clueless about is finding the right bus address for the pll, but I think there's at least a tool for querying the bus. I glanced through an Intel motherboard datasheet last night and I was surprised that they listed the pll model/series and address, but that's been the only one I've seen with that information. I checked a Supermicro one, but it only listed the pll model/series...
If any one of you geniuses figure out how to OC this thing, you'll let us know, will ya? ;)
An overclocked sausageman ... scary.
I remember asking cpuz(Franck) here on the forum when I had my DX3600 Irwindale(same 7520 chipset) if a clockgen could be made to work on this and he said no because SuperMicro actually used two of them, one to back up the other in case one failed.
Hopefully different here.
Will get those docs out to you today.
Works on the Intel board the fan speed control?
What about... uhm... compromising one of the hw clockgens? Then write for the second clockgen. That should solve the problem.
ok.. just tried to boot-up for first time ;)
no POST. no nothing.
diagnostic LEDs show the following:
1st LED: green
2nd LED: nothing
3rd LED: amber
4th LED: nothing
LED codes/info are in mobo manual on pg131.. I cant seem to 'decipher' what the code means :( - any help would be greatly appreciated!
@ MM: what slot would u advise for a single DIMM? cheers!
:(
slots 1-3 produce the same result... also, just as some more 'info' - *all* the LEDs go thru a rather fancy 'show off' before finally 'settling down' to the previous mentioned order/code
slots 4-8 give a diff result: LEDs 1-3 show amber, LED#4 shows green, as well as the onboard speaker giving me 3 medium length 'beeps'
my darn RAM stick better not be 'DOA'
how does one diagnos dead RAM? :(
I have noooo idea where the nearest person is to me that would have a mobo compatible with ECC+REG DDR2 :(
sure! np! - uno momento.. I will edit this post with the details!
ok, heres the details.... hey, hang on a min.. are u suspecting that this slow-witted, triple-back-plate-buying ozzie bought the wrong stuff?!!? :p:
details:
Kingston KVR400D2S8R3/512I
(512MB SS DIMM, PC2-3200, CL3, REG & ECC)
the 'I' at the end of the model code apparently denotes that it is 'Intel Verified/Certified' - according to the Kingston website.. There is (iirc) some stuff, almost exactly the same code number, but without the 'I' at the end blahblahblah (u get the pic ;) )
anything else I need to add? :)
I have partnumber KVR400D2D8R3/1G .
No 'I' mentioned ...
Also Elpida chips here , AGBG-6E-E
16€ ??
I've paid 29€ ... :shakes: (also bought 1 stick for now)
Yeah well.. w/o taxes ;)
But still :D
Well, I would imagine raising the fsb would also raise the ram clocks, but I guess that wouldn't be a bad thing :)
Do you happen to know where the FS_A and FS_B pins lead to, somewhere on the chipset I assume?
How sure are you that it's a clockgen just for the pci-e?
I just bring this up because on the s771 board I just received it has at least three clock chips, although two are real clock generators, while the other is a buffer for the I/O slots.
Okay, the only reason I bring up it being a buffer is it needs a clock source, which I presume comes from the main pll (which has its SRC output at the desired 100MHz). As a buffer all it's doing is taking the input clock and outputting it at either the same freq or freq/2, just buffered of course so that it has the drive strength/fanout capabilities and what not.
But yeah, I guess I didn't think about it going straight to the BSEL pins, I'm relatively new to this Intel stuff :)
To make sure they're directly connected you could just check with a multimeter in continuity mode.
Though haven't the BSEL mods been tried in the past without success? Just curious what could potentially keep it from taking effect.
very nice gongo
could anybody tell me what the best graphics card i could put into one of these would be, ive only got the pci-x slot, and the pcie 8 or whatever it is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161079
or:
Take an xacto knife, heat blade and cut out the back of the pci-e x8 slot and slam a regular vid card in there.
Will work fine with an X8 signal
That is exactly what I was planning as well. Many motherboards with an extra PCIe 16x slot are made that way as well, with the only difference there being the physical x16 slot available. The only thing I am worried about is the amount of current the x8 slot can deliver. I wouldn't want to throw a mid-end GPU in there (IE 4650/9500GT) since it uses nearly all the power a x16 slot supply. That would be way over the specs of a x8 slot. I'd only use low-end cards and high-end cards with an extra power connector.
maybe..But consider this;
On the supermicro X6xxx series they have 2X16 slots and the second carries a x4 signal but works fine with a vid card so I'm assuming that this x8 slot will also.
The funny thing is that in the bios there is the choice for pci-e or onboard vid.
That was a pleasant surprise that I didn't expect to see.
Yes I know, but because it's a physical x16 slot it can deliver the current of a x16 slot, yet it only has the usable lanes of a x4 slot. That is what I am worried about. Data is not an issue here, it's the amount of current that can go through a x8 slot rather then a x16 slot :)
I am going to use the onboard video.
This is the only board I have with integrated video, so I'll try that.
Sossaman is not really a gaming platform is it?
would i see any bottlenecks if i threw a gtx 280/9800gx2 in there? p.s. posting from a psp is a real pita
A GTX 280 in a PCIe Gen1 x8? Go forget it. You won't get 50% of the card's normal performance. Even my 8800 GTS needed the full Gen1 x16.
I just saw a PCIe-x8 GEN1 slot can deliver 20Gb/sec. I am pretty sure that's going to be limiting the poor GTX.
I can still look what performance I can get out of it?
i think an 8800gt/9600gt will do fine for my 17 inch moniter lol
Any updates on the customs yet, Jaco?
I'm getting closer to making an offer--possibly for a state-side build. Once I get a job (with luck, within a week), I can afford to spend the money. Sossaman looks niceeeee. :p:
You can use adapter cables , like these
At the risk of sounding co*cky let me explain a little about business and people.
Money talks and BS walks. Remember that and you'll do well in life.
Always look at the other guy and try to think like him.
Factors:
1)Not a cpu that people are knocking doors down for.
2) Horsh*it economy
3) a fast $500.00 in the hand vs weeks of hoping that they sell
4) He's already dropped the price $5.00 which tells me that he's thinking he'll get stuck with them.
Add it all up and you understand how I think..;)
Well, make the offer! The worst he can say is "no". $25 sounds nice! And as I said--once I get a job, I'm willing to buy a new Sausageman rig! :p:
You'll seal the deal Dave, I'm pretty confident ;)
~30$ a piece should be doable I guess.
Wow really need to get a job so I can build one of these things, at the price's this stuff's going for...jeezz.
Dave for Admin 2008! When it comes to choosing an evil overlord, I'd choose Dave! :p: Anyways--I guess we'll all see how the seller responds. It's likely he picked up these chips cheap/free as it is, so $25-30 should be in range when you phrase it like that. Hell--snap the "How about all 20?" part later and he may further discount these babies! BTW--is the MB dual-channel? Will this kit work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134272
anybody care to tell me what kind of adapter i need for the eight pin, i'm gunna be throwing an 8800gt in there, so there goes a six pin connector, so i take it i can use a pair of molex to eight pins, could anybody post a link for me? please
Hey Dave, any chance that if you snap up all of the 2000's you could keep a pair on hold for me when I get a job? ;) US$25-40 a pop sounds pretty good to me :p:
Eller
Mobo and stuff finally on its way to my doorstep :D
Hurry up figuring out that FSB 200 mod gongo, will ya :D
At this rate XS is going to soak up the world sausageman supply!
I was thinking that, actually. I wonder how much of these Sossamans are snatched up by us. To my knowledge, we're the only team that runs them en masse. I think there's been a dozen or more sales in the past few months to our community--and for an item like Sossamans, I think that's the majority of the demand.
Still waiting on the package from Jaco to arrive...
The parts should arrive tommorrow depending on when he sent it.
Last week already! Damn logistics.
They don't want to deal.
They had them up for $50, then when I offerred they bumpted the auction to $55 then told me $50 each for 10 of them, then I waited and didn't reply and they are now back at $49.99 plus $10 shipping with 14 left..
That's an excellent price to be honest, $111.00 a pair shipped in the US..
So is the name gonna be changing to Team XSausageman soon or what?
Hey guys,
Just got my heatsinks & Backplate. Thanks Jaco
Also found a pretty good deal on RAM.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1GB-2X512-DDR2...d=p3286.c0.m14
£27.90 for 2GB + £3.90 postage - £31.80 / $52.14 / €40.39
:D
2 x 1GB DDR2 PC2-3200 ECC REG
Seems the ebay 2.0's have been relisted after I forgot to buy. They're cheaper as well now.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120321934584
I got my hands on a board recently as well, hence I'm buying two once Paypal tells me I have the funds. Still needing memory as well though, are these boards really as picky with memory? Should I just pay a bit extra and buy something from the compatibility list?
http://www.itxchange.com/itxchange/p..._no=39Y6598-02
1.6GHz chips now down to $56 each , crawling down slowly :p:
My parts arrived today
I'll see if I can get some pics of the system when it's up and running.
EDIT: The DDR2 ECC REG RAM I picked up was in fact DDR2, but it were Micron extra special chips with a physical DDR interface. Off to the retailer now to swap some parts!
The XS WCG team Demands to see some PICTURES :D
Crappy photo, I'm lazy. I'll make decent photos when I receive my CPU's and/or when I can be arsed to build it into a case.
http://img.techpowerup.org/081022/IMG_2780.jpg
What mobo is that?
I think I'll order my PSU tonight, and maybe bid on some ram..
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
The system is up and running, now all I need is a OS to install. I'll get some pictures later tonight.
Care to share the name of your retailer? I got rather sick of checking for all the tested modules from the SM site and looking on the Tweakers pricewatch to see which is cheapest at a reliable store.
For now I settled for the 2x512MB ebay things posted here, though eventually I'll need more RAM, I'm planning to run ESX so 1GB won't be sufficient.
Any chance of this kit working?
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128488
In the Baker Bay Mobo.
The mem speed, it's always the mem speed :shakes:
Eh :D
I've found a nice cheap kit of PC2-3200 now anyway :p:
Will only be picking up 1GB now, just to get the system up 'n' running.
This memory speed thing is really confusing, Intel's Specsheet specifies 400Mhz only, but some 667 kits work ok, In the UK 667 is cheaper than 400, and Im on a budget, so its hard :p:
But i'm staying well on the safe side this time
