I was going to use No More Nails heavy duty tape since it's stronger than 3M, but I'm terrified I'll slip and poof, pump on wrong spot :P

Well, it took me quite some time to read this thread from beginning to end, but it certainly was worth it.

I just found out this log exists yesterday, and it's simply amazing!

Sadly, my murderMod is sitting next to me empty and lonely. My motherboard is finally back from RMA, but sadly my CPU cooler replacement (TRUE was too tall, going with Tuniq) is not yet here, and my 8800GT iandh RAMsinks aren't back yet from iandh (he had to trim them to fit with my T-Rad2).

This log makes me want to get some progress on my murderMod and start using it already!! Your system is absolutely beautiful. The white tubing looks amazing.

For the rocketfish that you painted, did you have to do anything special to keep spray paint from getting into the holes for the various screw holes? I've been thinking about painting my motherboard tray for a while, but am not very eager to do some trial and error with it :D

I do plenty of relaxing. I now find sleeving and focusing on small details is relaxing and very fulfilling. I would love for you to see it in person, you would love it. These aren't even the finished pictures yet, but it's pretty close to done.

I screwed in some extra screws for all of the holes that I was going to use. I just screwed them in far enough to cover all of the threads. It turned out pretty decent, but I still haven't fully assembled that case. I'll add that to my to-do list, although the wife keeps adding to my list... :)

Your computer is fairly similar to mine and is a fantastic build. Cheer up mate! :) I do take that as a compliment though, so thanks a lot.

Thanks bianco. The rivets come with the mid and back plates but Charles had my case all set to go for me. It's part of the MurderMod TJ07.

Congratulations on an amazing build. I have been <ahem!> watching your progress with great interest and trepidation for a long time. I too am awaiting my MurderMod TJ07, but mine is being made in Germany by the other MurderMod partner, DualBrain.:toast: It seems great minds think alike, as in your build you have included many similar bits of hardware that I had also planned to use, but your mind is faster than mine :( One advantage for me, though, is that you have enlightened me in a few areas! But I have a couple of little questions for you. What have you got your top power switch hooked up to? And, how have you hooked up your Aquaero (did you need extension cables, what does it control etc)?

Well done once again, sweet build and riveting worklog. Any little nuggets of advice would be most welcome, PM me.

Awesome! You are not going to be disappointed! I'm sure Nils will do a fantastic job getting everything together for you. The sleeving kits he's come up with are just fantastic.

What do you mean by "Top power switch?" I don't get it. The Aquaero is connected to the motherboard by USB, has 4 fans and 1 water temperature probe that sits in the reservoir. When idle the fans are slow but when the water temperature raises by 2 degrees then the fans speed up to a faster speed to control the load. It really works great. The Aquaero is really a great tool, my 2nd machine with one.

If you want to know the details about ANYTHING, please PM me or post, I would be happy to try to help another Murdermodder achieve their desired results.

I've finalized almost everything in this build, but forgot to take pictures of the back... doh. I have some fancy LED lighting in the top too, but taking pictures of it is very challenging. Core i7 might be a consideration too, we'll see.

Tell me all you did with your Aquaero, I have not used one before, but DualBrain recommended it. Do you use it to control your fans seperately, or have you linked them together with a splitter cable? Have you got you pump controlled with it? Do you have a flowmeter hidden in there?

Oh yes, the top switch on the back is to control the lighting. I have a strip of LED white lights that really light it up nicely.

Each fan is individually hooked up to the Aquaero. I extended 3 fan cables from the radiator fans and brought them up to the Aquaero. I wanted to control and monitor each fan separately. I used a Bitspower water temperature probe screwed right in the bottom of the Ek res.

Check out Aqua Computer's site for more info about the Aquaero. I recommend watching the video of it in operation so you can see it's abilities. I personally really like it and think it's a fantastic product. It looks great on the interior of the case too, and it lines up with the back of the dvd drive just perfectly. Thanks ShoNuff. The pci-e cables are sandwiched between the motherboard and motherboard tray. I am quite fond of the white lights, but it just goes along with the whole theme I guess. I think if you used white lights with any color it would still light it up nicely. The way it lights up the acrylic on the video card is nice too.

It's really quiet when it's just idling or surfing XS, but as soon as you load up a game or a higher power application the water temperature rises a bit and then the fans kick up and keep it cool. It's a bit louder but not really too bad. I think it's a great balance. Thanks sniperbob for the great compliment.

I never thought about a foil over the display, but I actually like how it looks now. It's better in person, and after it boots up the display back lighting turns off.

It's tricky. I had to extend and create a bunch off custom cables to finish it off right. I put a lot of time into the cable management, the most difficult aspect of building this I think. All said and done I'm really happy with it. Every cable is individually sleeved, even the ones you cannot see. The only spot in the case where I could actually "hide" cables is behind the face plate, but even that remained fairly clean.

Sorry I am still without internet at home, but I find it hard to even bother with dial-up, and will the little spare time I have I cant stand around and wait for a page to load for 5 minutes LOL.

I got my Murdermod faceplate and my sleeving and think I will to a teardown and rebuild starting this weekend. I got some alu for improved res bracket meterial and now have the fittings I need. I was going to add the chipset block but will have to wait to add it at a later time. Way to sick of waiting for stuff and getting packages at teh acreage drives me insane (long story).

Finally had time to go through your whole buildlog again BA and I have to say it is fantastic, front to back. You went to town and man, did it pay off. If you get a chance shoot me your home phone if you dont mind. I want to ask some questions so I will shoot you a call and we can BS alittle and help a fella out.

On other news, the acreage is getting there and I have the Mercedes and Smart cars on the road now. Sure is nice to ride in style and comfort in the E320, and the Smart car is halariuous. All the rednecks at work razz me, but I dont care. 20 bux for 1000kms of driving is well worth the razzing, and it kinda feels good to not burn gas like it is going out of style.

Well, just wanted to pop in and let you know I am still alive.

Just sleeve everything! I probably used 150 feet of sleeving total, but it could be done with quite a bit less, maybe I just went overboard. Use minimal cable runs, combine fan cables if you can, splice cables in hidden areas and then sleeve some more.

The Hammond boxes are secured to the frame by 4 screws. The rads are secured to those with a strong double sided tape. It's not going anywhere, that's for sure.

That murder mod box is so sick. Excellent job on the wire guides and sleeving.

Thanks Eddie. Yes the internals and backplate are powder coated solar black. The powder coat is very even and really has a nice finish.

I think if I were to do it again I might go just a bit larger, so maybe 3/8". 1/4" is only large enough for 2 wires, so I had to get creative.

There is enough room back there for larger clamps, maybe even enough for 1/2" clamps. You should be able to find something local, if not let me know and I'll mail you some.

Is the XT DI a better block than this one? Also do they make adapter plates to fit 1366? Lastly; how are these compared to the apogee GTZ?

I was going to get the GTZ till I saw this thread with the AC parts. Those look top notch.

ALSO to BA; excellent job on all your builds!:clap: Just want to mention one idea that you may or maynot like; Thinking that you should make you liquid for the TJ-07 white or whiteish; cause when you look at the res, it kind of off with the rest of your color scheme. Not even sure if anyone makes a white fluid, but just a thought. Otherwise an excellent build.

If you go to the "English" section of the AquaComputer forum their is a link to a review using the Cuplex HD and GTZ if IIRC. The margin of difference between all the blocks tested was smaller than expected.

You can get the 1366 adapter fittings from Sidewinder as well.

It's been a long time since an update. I've changed a few things and now have a lovely i7 build in the MurderMod. I'll post some more pictures shortly, but here is one until I get them all ready.

It's quite challenging to get good pictures of the different types of anodizing on the front. The light reflects differently on every one of them. Charles is a much better photographer than I but I just had to post some more pictures of my pride and joy.

I'll work on taking some more shots to see if I can improve.

The front face plate and case frame are anodized while the rest of the components are powder coated. They're both perfect in their own ways and really look great in person. The way they catch the light while photographing is a bit different though and makes it challenging to make them match.

The pics are great. It is very difficult to get even exposure on the anodized surfaces, but these look good.

Would love to get some input from you on temps with the i7 build, as well as specs, and a refresher on how you have your loops set up.

Thanks Shazza! Taking good pictures is just another fun part of the build. I'm sure you're well familiar with being able to photograph what you've worked so hard on, and come away with good results.

My i7 build consists of:

Rampage II Extreme X58
Corsair 3x2gb DDR3 1600
Intel Core i7 920
Diamond 4870x2

I have my setup running at 4.1Ghz. 210 Bclock with the multi on Auto. With turbo mode it goes up to 4.3Ghz, but is often reported at 4.1. Still more to play with and learn but I'm still learning when I have time. I've been doing a bit of gaming and enjoying this very playable and fast system. Honestly overclocking this has never been so easy, x58 is just the best platform I've ever experienced.

I turned Hyper Threading off as it only seemed to add heat without providing much benefit. I prime at ~ 68C with about 5C variance between the cores. When I put load on the system my fans on my radiator kicks up to 100% and maintains it stable. My 4870x2 doesn't overclock much at all, I'm kind of disappointed in it really, so it's at stock settings. I have my D5 running at setting the max but is absolutely silent with the foam pad underneath.

Core i7's run hot, but they are a lot more stable than any 775 cpu I've played with. As long as it's stable and temperatures are under control then I'm happy. I just have a single loop but it works very well.

Blue - Normally I have a little bit of reservation in giving props to the murdermod rigs because they use prefab parts which goes against my computer building philosophy. Not that they aren't beautiful and clean, because they are!

for you I think I give an exception because you have done a stunning job executing this build at the same level as charles did originally (and I'm a sucker for white ;))

P.S. your photographs are getting better with every update on this thread, this last set is an excellent collection that do great justice to the beauty of your rig :up:

Thanks for the thorough update. Agreed ... the i7 platform is amazingly stable and, I think, easy to OC.

Didn't know if you had stayed with one loop ... those are good temps. Also with you on the slight disappointment with the 4870x2 ... think I'll head back to nVidia.

@SNiipe Dogg: I'm sure you didn't mean it, but your comments come across as a bit condescending to the murderMod group. There are several examples of beautiful builds and I don't see that much difference between buying their parts vs buying other components.

Thanks Sniipe DoGG. I've built enough computers now to really know what I wanted out of this build. Ever since I saw the first MurderBox I knew I wanted something like it. Every aspect was just stunning, and now that a few have been produced and more will be made it doesn't make it any less special to me. I know that if I were to achieve something similar by myself would have required an incredible amount of time, hard work and scrupulous attention to detail. I really value the work that Charles did and I really feel that you get your money's worth. The sleeving that Nils has come up with have been amazing too. Those two guys really make a great team and I hope to see good things in the future with MurderMod.

I'm just really glad that I was able to produce an overall package that could compete with their builds. I see a lot of great builds here on XS, but it's the people that really make this hobby interesting and fun for me. I'm glad I could not only build these machines but also gain a lot of great friends along the way.

I'm putting together another i7 setup now for my secondary machine and will definitely be going Nvidia this time around. I like to mix it up and try new things and with x58 being a really good SLI platform I might just go that route.

I do like single loops. I think the extra pump and tubing runs are bit too much, especially if you want a clean look in a space conscious environment. You really pulled off multiple loops amazing well in your Mountain Mods build, it's definitely not an easy task.
