A bit OT, but I'm curious:
Why does everybody seem to like Orthos more than dual-instances of Prime95? Orthos is just a dual-CPU 'modified' version of Prime95, correct, or am I missing something?
Also, does anyone know if there's a program to see what strap you're running in? I thought I read about one here in this thread, but the 17 pages have all become a blur, lol. ;)

download the latest offical bios from abit's website and use the "RUNME.BAT" and the "ABITFAE.BAT" that is package with the download to do the flashing for you automatically with two floppy's...change or update the flashing switches in "ABITFAE.BAT" with the switches that are shown below.

if you do not have an USB thumb-drive to boot from, then you will need 2 floppy disks and a floppy drive....one disk will have the booting files to get you to a DOS "A:" prompt...the other disk carries your bios file along with the award flasher, runme.bat and abitfae.bat...
all you have to do after booting off the 1st disk is to swap out the bootdisk with the 2nd floppy disk that has your bios file on it....then, from the "A:" prompt, type this syntax: RUNME.BAT...just follow the screen prompts from there, which are a series of hitting the "ENTER" key to get to the final action of flashing...be patient while it flashes off a floppy disk...it takes time (about 2 minutes) for the bios file to be extracted off the floppy and then uncompacted into memory so it can be flashed via the award flashing program....this is why it is important to not overclock and have proper voltage to your memory sticks....i usually set up 2.1v for my Vdimm at default clock speed...additionally, i juice the vcore (about 0.04 or 0.05) up to be on the safe side too!
you can bypass the automatic way of flashing (not recommended) and do it the old fashion way of manually typing in everything including the switches, bios file name and award flashing program...this procedure is more prone to format and spacing mistakes which will abort the flashing process.
HOW TO MANUALLY FLASH BY TYPING THE WHOLE COMMAND LINE:
with the 2nd floppy in your "A" drive and you have the "A" prompt on the screen, you type this: A:AWDFLASH.EXE M629B_12.B01 /py /sn /wb /cd /cp /cc /cks (bios file name was an example)
remember there is one space between each file or switch annotation...there is NO space between the "A" prompt and AWDFLASH.EXE
DO NOT OVERCLOCK while flashing the bios....and...make sure you have proper voltage to your memory sticks like i mention above.
always a good idea to do a full format on the floppy before copying the bios files to the 2nd floppy...if you have a bad sector on that floppy and do not do a full format, it would be just your luck that the bios file would be copied to that part of the bad sector(s) on the floppy disk.

Yep looks good. I am getting 1.56 idle and 1.54 load orthos. Not bad for 4.0ghz stable.

Hmmm...looks like you may need to sell the P5B Deluxe. This IP35 line is very strong in the overclocking department. Probably a combination of good board design and the new chipset.
Is there any truth to the 2 latest newegg reviews stating that the X-Fi has issues with this board :rolleyes: Anyone using an X-Fi with this board that can comment?

OK...so, sounds like this is settled... any reported X-Fi problems (if there really still are any) are NOT specific to this board.
finally just bought an X-Fi after selling my 'non-Vista' Revo. nice to come here for a sanity check from the newegg reviews and creative forum.
Here's another review of the IP35 Pro at CPU3D.com.
Performance looks pretty solid. They tested with a Q6600 and were a little disappointed with the overclocking as they could only hit 3.375Ghz (9x375).
Note, however, that this is the same max overclock they reached in their review of the ASUS P5K3 Deluxe. The MSI P35 Neo they reviewed hit 3.2Ghz (9x355).

I was having a sound issue with the extremem gamer but not sure what it was a issue with. I an using 4gigs ram with vista 64 and when I installed the latest drivers the sound card would work until the first time that I rebooted then it would be just static.
I went back to the drivers that come with that iso image that is available for xfi on vista and that driver works great as long as I dont update it.
Basically a older driver works fine but the new one doesnt. I went down to a fresh install of vista64 with nothing installed except for the vista updates its self and had the same issue.

Running like a champ here. It uses the same PWM RT8802A IC as the top-of-the-line IP35 Pro. Unfortunately, my E4300 hits a FSB wall at 425MHz. Don't have an E6xxx chip to probe for maximum FSB speed on this IP35-E.
Has anyone had a chance to try this board with a G0 stepping chip yet? I have a Q6600 G0 on pre-order and am 99% decided on this board. Will it work with the chip out of the box?

looking the screenshot from the source, it appears:
1:1 and 1:1.2 = 1333 strap
1:1.25 and 1:1.5 = 1066 strap
1:1.66 and 1:2 = 800 strap

Well this is my intial results with 1T with my crucial abllistics 8500 2x1gb. Now I am running vista 64 so the scores are not what they would be with XP. I did manage to take about 7/8 of a second off my scores from before that were 2t running 500fsb 1:1 with 4-4-4-12 and 4x1gb. I know not a good comparison but will do more testing (allthough Ace-a-Rue will do more indepth I am sure).
I am just happy I got this mhz with the ram at 1T. With 2.2v it wouldnt post at the next highest level which was like 564 or soemthing like that.

When I use USB flash procedure it tells me the BIOS is not an award bios and goes back to the dos prompt.
I have formatted the USB drive per previous instructions. Any ideas? Is this an AMI bios and not an award? If I use the flash menu in windows it flashes fine but I do not like flashing in windows.

FWIW...The Scythe Ninja B is not too bad either. I like it because it is shorter than the TR Ultra120 Extreme and fits in any case without a fan attached to the inside of the side window/panel. I tried to fit the TR 120 into a Lian Li PC-60 case and there is no way, even without the fan on the window. Anandtech says there is an 80-90MHz difference in OC but I am not so sure about that as I use both on similar setups and the Ninja performs as well as the TR-120 Ultra Extreme in my systems. Also, you may have to remove some material from the HS bracket as it may interfere with the mosfets. But that is not such a biggie.

I was all hyped to see the new bios but it looks like 1:1 and 5:6 uses the 1333strap :( .... Why is Abit going backwards :confused: ....
Anybody know where I can buy a bios chip to test the new bios?.... I really dont want to risk losing the bios I have now.....

Hey guys excuse me but Im new at this. At the bios I cannot find a way to lower my vcore. The lowest I see is 1.3250 v and everyone here on their cpuID shows ~1.2. Any advice or answer is appreciated.

the base vcore is the vcore that your cpu requires...the voltage reported by Cpuz is incorrect.
Thats because cpuid doesnt read the voltage correct above about 1.45vcore and rarely reads it correct at all for most mobos. Its not a big deal most poeple here arent running less then 1.325 vcore.
I maxed out my cpu fsb I think so I want 1066 strap the whole way...... I understand your point of view but it would have been nice for Abit to give us the option to pick which is best for us..... I dont have a problem with high fsb and 1066strap cos I did 550fsb on the dfi and 560fsb here on the abit.... my problem is my bios gets screwy at times and when it happens sometimes it takes forever to get it running normal again..... Ill take a picture to show what I mean when it happens again, its ok when Im not benching but when I am its a piss off..... like it sucks when your temp is wayyy below 0c and Uguru freezes when I set it at 400fsb lol..... :shrug:
K got it, thanks. And guys Im getting temps at ~50 degrees C running non OC with the stock heatsink and stock thermal paste. Im using the abit along with e4400. Im using Speedfan and Rightmark cpu clock to monitor my temps. Anyone with opinions on why is this or is the stock therm grease just crap.Quote:

That's a new build versus a year old XP install. I expected better for some reason. At 3.2, I hit 10106 on 3DMark06. I need to add a sig so this will have to due for now:

I like Abit's FanEQ control. Most boards will not support my 2-pin 120 x 38 mm medium speed Panaflo. This one can vary the speed of a large 120 fan from 50% to 100% depending on CPU and/or case temperature. Northbridge also runs cooler than many P965 boards. PWM and southbridge heat sinks are cool to the touch. You'll probably don't need the extra heat pipe cooler if you have adequate case ventilation.Quote:

Don't worry about not having an all solid caps board. None of the IP35-E's caps get hot at 488MHz FSB. These Japanese caps should last at least seven years...longer than you will care to keep the board.
The LAN on PCI is not a real-world issue because the actual throughput speed is capped by the write speed of the hard drive, currently around 50MB/sec max.
1394 would be nice, but the extra 10% speed boost isn't noticeable to me since I don't move GB of data in/out of the PC.
No compatibility with RAM. Works fine with Crucial, Kingston ValueRAM, OCZ, and Patriot. The board has sufficient voltage to fry any CPU and RAM.
I appreciate a high value, high performance board. The IP35-E lacks some bells and whistles, and may not be able to hit 600MHz FSB like its bigger brother IP35 Pro, but the board does everything that I want it to do today without spending a lot of $.

I'd really like to see how the IP35-E can handle a Kentsfield. Not being able to hit 500 with a Connie is no big deal for me (and besides, it could be the CPU, not the mobo hitting a wall), but I'd like to be able to get 450ish with a quad.
How does this board overclock with this board? Would like to know especially when quads drop in price!
