Hi,
I just completed my build with the following parts on my sig and overclocked it to 3.2 GHz (400x8). I'm using prime92v2 to stress test my system (small FFT) and coretemp is reading my toasty chip at:
Core#0: 82 C
Core#1: 82 C
Core#2: 80 C
Core#3: 80 C
Today is a pretty hot day so my room temp is at 28 C. I just want to know if these temp are too high for everyday use (game, watch / encode movies, etc).

Ultra extreme and those temps? You either have a bad heatsink(very unlikely) or it's installed wrong, or you have terrible case airflow, or you have a concave IHS or heatsink base.Quote:

Just for reference, my Ultra-120 Extreme on a Q6600 at 1.5250v BIOS, damper on, puts out 75C coretemp Prime95 8k small fft at about 1.48v real, at 22C room temp. With two mild fans in push-pull. Phew. ;)
Well I installed the heatsink parallel to the PCIE slot so the fan is pushing the hot air up. I don't know if it's better to install it perpendicularly. I replaced all my stock case fans with S-Flex SFF21F and added an extra fan at the middle where the HD cage is so my airflow should be good.Quote:

Ok, this is strange......I took my 2 80gig drives and hooked them up to my Abit Quad GT and created a raid 0 array. Then I hooked them up to my Asus board and installed xp pro. All seems to be going well. I was able to do a disk defrag and a norton internet security full system scan. Both of these would cause a blue screen reboot before. This leads me to believe the raid issues are a bios problem and not a problem with the board 'cos the intel matrix manager that creates the array is in the bios isn't it? If this is the case someone needs to let Asus know so they can fix the bios for us! I am going to let the system run over the weekend because my rma number is still good for 10 days. Sure hope I don't have any more errors!:) The board I have now does my current settings with all voltages except for vdimm & vcore set to auto and there is 0.000v drop at 100% load at 1.328v:)

BTW I can not use a raid card because they mostly all need the drives to have smart enabled, and the i-ram's do not support smart.

Dude, thanks but the board itself isn't up to scratch, simple as (which I take no pleasure in saying). I have owned and used a lot of 3ware cards in the past and the compatability has been very good. On the other hand I can't remember the last thing that I plugged in to the 'universal PCI-E' slot on any Asus board working well at all. I am far, far, far from being a noob with this stuff, I switch off everything in the bios that I don't use, etc and pay attention to all the basics as well as the advanced tweaking.Quote:

I am gutted as I have bought enough Asus boards to qualify for free shares in the company ;) and normally love their boards, but I have NEVER come across one as rough as this before. It won't stop me from buying Asus boards again, but I am steering clear of P35 for the forseeable, shame as the overclocking was top notch :(. I am going to keep my 3ware card and see how it goes on the 680i.

I think version 0.95 has a problem with p5k deluxe. It crashes for me as well even when I'm on stock. I now use version 0.94 and it's happy.Quote:

ps_ systool latest version claims to be updated for P5k, but it crashes on startup every time, I am sticking with next last build.

Got my board running today. now running orthos @ my last commando 24/7 of 9x400 @2:3 which i hope is my starting point.
On the commando have been running matrix raid 0 with 4x80gb hitachi sata 2 drives. had seen a few pps having issues with raid . when i plugged in all my hd i thought i was going same way, although all 4 drives where detected only 3 were seen in bios as being part of the array. fortunately i keep asmall xp install on my data drives , booted to that. Once i'd updated the matrix drive manager to the version on the asus cd & rebooted, my original arrays where found & i was able to happily boot & update that install.
Why updating an xp programme should work better than new drivers i'm not sure but hell it works fior me:D

Yes, the wireless can be removed. I'm pretty sure that FCG made a thread about the P5W DH Deluxe board and showed how to remove the wireless from that. This board should be exactly the same in that respect.
It's just a small screw holding the wireless into a slot on the board.

I wouldn't worry just yet as it turns out this this may be a lesson in 'newest isn't always best'. As a matter of course I updated the firmware on the card to the 9.4.1.1 set before even putting it in to the P5K as I had never had a firmware or compat issue with any other 3ware card. I spent the best part of yesterday fitting the 680i in to my case and fired it all up with the 3ware in there and first boot was OK, but after that the machine would either halt on the mediashield bios loading, or get part way through the 3ware bios and die, or come up with cannot recognise card, contaxct bios vendor etc etc. I have just downgraded to the 9.4.0.1 firmware and the machine 'appears' to be behaving just fine. I am currently slipstreaming the drivers onto the xp cd.Quote:

Well the reversion to the 9.4.0.1 firmware did the trick. I put the entire rig back together using the P5K again and everything is happy. If a problem with RAID is acknowledged and fixed then I will most likely go back to the onboard but for not I will stay on the 3ware. I still have the problem every few boots of the paused dim xp loading screen for 30-40 secs and I have no idea if I still get a BSOD when installing the X-Fi driver cd as I just web downloaded but heh ;). I will send 3ware a note this week regarding the loss of compatability with the current firmware.
At least you are back on track and get to enjoy the new toy...one reason I don't jump on the latest and greatest bios until I know I need it. Make sure it's broke before ya go fixin it ;) Congrats...Quote:

Dude, I am more than well aware of this ;) but compat issues aren't all that common nowadays really and these cards aren't solely bought for server purposes anymore. With RAID becoming more and more common on standard boards and articles on sites like Toms Hardware (yuk) pimping these things at normal folk, the market for RAID cards is bacoming bigger and more diverse, whether that is a good thing or not :shrug: .Quote:

Weird thing happened here: Booted the disk with the Windows XP installation I had from my previous board (Commando) and after installing the drivers from the CD, everything was ok, *including* Core Temp 0.95.Quote:

Areca ARC-12Xx series RAID controller is based on the PCI Express X8. It can work on the PCI Express X1, X4, X8, and X16 signal with X8 or X16 slot M/B.
There are a few companies that make both left angle, and right angle sata cables, so with a combination of them you should be able to access all 6 ports. I am using the right angle cable that came with my P5K, as well as my P5W DH. But these cover the two ports next to them. So I'm guessing left angle cables would not cover sata port 5 & 6. :)Quote:

I've got an Antec spot cool 80mm fan on my NB and it's runing at 1.25V but it's temps are still sky high at 51-2 C under load, and like 40-41 idle, my CPU idles at a lower temp than the NB Is that safe? not sure what I can really do to get it much better, I've also got the OCZ ram cooler w/ 2x 60mm fans on the Ballistix and they seem fine but I am kinda worried about the NB. Any suggestions?

Hold up you'll probably need the sli one. My 8800gts covers half of the sb. Looks like you have the even bigger gtx. I grabbed a microcool sb cooler without specing first and it's way too tall.

The HR-05 sli version should fit perfect in there. I'm doing the same thing and replacing the pipes with Microcool mosfets, HR-05 NB and hmph, now that we're looking at it, HR-05 sli on the SB.

Currently in the process of getting my rig back online, X64 is being gay and BSOD so i went to stock settings anyways....What should I set the voltage references too and whatnot? Or maybe point me to the post, it would be greatly appreciated at this moment :D

EDIT: Ok everything is working, and most of what I needed to know was on the front page by Eva....Go figure....Anyways is it me? or is the P35 lower performance clock for clock when compared to 975x? Because on the 975x running 4gb 3-3-3-6 I was getting read speeds of 9700mb/s in everest, now I get 7300+/-mb/s is that normal? At DDR2 800 of course.
EDIT2: Holy crap.....I love this board.....Running 4-4-4-10 with really tight sub timings....getting 9k mb/s+ read/write/copy which pounds 975X...Anyways memtesting it now 500x7 DDR1000 :) very happy atm.

Asus P5K Deluxe - flashed from 0304 to 0311 official bios
Well I've flashed from 0307 beta bios to 0311 official bios from Asus' http download site (not the 0311 beta bios that was on Asus ftp sites a few days before). All went well with no problems so far. Failed overclock recovery seems to have gotten better than before and that was already very good to begin with!
Flashed within bios using Ez Flash2. I suggest using Ez Flash2 or Afudos for flashing bios and avoid using Asus Update in windows.
Now you ask, what changed in 0311 bios ? Official change log states:
P5K Deluxe Release BIOS 0311
- Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com.tw/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
- Enhance device compatibility under AHCI mode
But it seems they also added Command Rate option in bios for 1T/2T. Only done limited tests with 1T for now but there is a boost in memtest86+ v1.70 reported bandwidth when 1T is enabled. I'll return later to test 1T out. Just want to see how 2T manually selected performs. I've swapped out my X6800 cpu into my Asus Commando for now, so returning to using my Q6600 B3 ES Kentsfield quad core cpu for 0311 official bios tests.

First couple of hours playing with this Aircooled Q6600(TR ultra120 xtreme lapped) Loving it :up: 8*450 1.54v .. I did have a DFI 680lt and was doing 3.5ghz (9*389mhz) with about 1.43v.. Going to miss SLI though :shakes:

- 605mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.35v and 600mhz 5-5-4-5 at 2.45v and 600mhz 5-4-4-4 at 2.60v on Asus P5B Deluxe 1101 bios
- 614mhz 5-5-5-5 at 2.45v on Asus P5K Deluxe 0304 bios, higher vdimm didn't help even for 5-4-4-x or loose 5-5-5-15
- 625mhz 5-5-4-9 at 2.50v on Asus P5K Deluxe 0311 official bios and benched other apps with 2.45v - I feel it can scale even more with more vdimm!

Eva, the sandra memory test seems at bit low...i am not talking about the ALU portion but the one with all the "fluff" enabled.
i would think with 556 ram frequnecy that would bring you a score in the high 8000 category.

EVA2000, Thank you for responding, however I did notice what YOU ARE USING, but I would like to understand more of what the settings are for: Like CPU voltage reference, I take a quick look at that setting, and it makes me think that I'm applying 1.50Vcore OVER the standard Vcore, but I know that cant be right? Need some help understanding couple of these bios options guys. Dram static read control? Clock overcharging mode? Cpu voltage reference? Cpu pll voltage? Any help would be great guys thanx. Reason i ask is because Im having a tough time getting my x6800 stable at 4gig. Never had an issue before with any MB but this p5k is acting wierd. My temps are much higher at 1.6vcore then any other motherbaord i have had in the past. I am on water chilling down to 12c. 7X515 stable right now but would like 8X500fsb

can't get stable @ 3.6 with a chip that's known good up to 3.4ghz. Any clue what's wrong? I'm using eva's bios settings above...
could be a cpu wall...might need to get on water to get a stable overclock at 3.6.
has anybody tried the Evercool VC-RE VGA/Chipset Cooler in the SB?
