And were all your 2600k's Malay (L) series?
Does anyone get random freezes? I do get them occasionally, and I found that its not OC related. It usually freezes while doing nothing, browsing, etc. I've tried lots of things, but nothing helped. To be honest, I've had dozens of issues with this SB build since I upgrade from my original Conroe. Definitely not happy.

I went through 34 pcs. of 2600Ks and 2 of 2500Ks to find (1) 58X and (1) 56X chips....the rest of 'em were maxed or 4E'ed @53X, 54X and 51X and even 50X down with air or cold:D
Still if for some reason I have to go to Micro Center nowadays.....then most likely I will take home a 2600K:)

Just noticed that when idle (vcore set to 1.515v manually in EFI BIOS), in Windows 7, CPUZ reports 1.528v idle, when running Prime95, vcore goes down to 1.518v and just stays there. Overvolt is Enabled in EFI BIOS. Shouldn't vcore go up when stressed? How come it goes down when stressed? :confused:
Micro Center doesn't allow buying CPU alone within 14 days of each other. If you buy a mobo with it, they are ok with it. If you just buy a processor by itself, it has be more than 14 days with each purchase.
Don't know when they began implementing that policy...until a week ago or so when I bought my latest 2600K. The cashier was checking my ID and I asked her why she was doing that, that was when I was told about it. Not sure if she was just purposely doing it to me (hope not as I'm not White) or what, but apparently that was the reason.
Better have a talk with store manager and call/write to their corporate. I hate when a business do that:(...And I make damn sure they not get away with it
There must be a written policy of what reason/s they need to check anyones ID to complete a sales transaction
I'm sure if I do talk to a manager, he would just say "it's a local store policy" of some sort if not all MC stores are enforcing it elsewhere. But I will write to their main HQ first and see what kind of answers I will get. I'm ready for another 2600K in my quest for a golden one.
here is a simple way around that, pay cash and don't give them your name and honestly you shouldn't even have to do that as all the Microcenter's I have been to have allowed me to come get one a day:yepp: and that includes the Houston store and both of the California stores:shrug:

So I just got my setup 2-3 days ago and testing out, I wouldŽve been happy with anything above 4.5 and Im at 4.9 already,
going to add a third fan on the Noctua, have tried 5Ghz, works, tho temps worry a bit, but Im going to test the stability throughout the day
at 4.9ghz first, as long as the cpu survives 1-2 years Im happy haha

EDIT: Yep, 4.9Ghz @ 1.424v is stable, let LinX run for a few more hours with "all" memory checked as well, then I just continued working with
my 3D/Maya work and rendering all day, works great! Once I replace the original noctua fans for a higher CFM ones IŽll see what it takes for 5Ghz usage, it would be a dream fulfilled :)

Nice chip, 5G should be no problem with good cooling. These Sandys are a serious bang for the buck and certainly better then what I expected. Good luck and enjoy the powa.:D
i find pretty annoying the fact that you CANT use the power saving features, which reduce vcore when idling (16x multi) if you set vcore on "fixed mode" (at least on my asrock).Unless you set it on offset mode, you get a straight fixed VID for all multies.. The problem rely in using different VID for different workloads (1c, 2c, etc) and in my case for example, for 4200 1c load requests 1.2710 VID, but 4c/8t requires 1.3461 (at least that is reported in coretemp/realtemp367). If i set for example offset -0.100 LLC3 in uefi i might be stable in heavy workload utilizing 4 cores..(1.199 vcore needed for prime 26.5 ALL threads/core stability) but if have a high single thread load (e.g. spi,prime95-1thread ), the 1.2710-0.1 => 1.1710.. with LLC3 becomes, 1.13-1.15... => "kaboom"... the classic x124 BSOD in very short time.. .I don't know if this can be addressed via a uefi update, or have to trade off , with a bit higher vcore in 4c/8t workloads to compensate for the lower vid in low core/thread-count loads. For the time being, i set it to have a bit higher load vcore (1.208) with different LLC lvl(5) and offset setting, that gives 1.176 vcore in 1core load, which seems stable so far (pain in the ass of course to validate this setting for all 4 cores...). I think the most "simple" solution could be if asrock, for example,(and i suspect all manufacturer's implementation suffers from this offset behavior + fixed vcore not lowering in idle state) could add code that uses fixed vcore in all workloads , and using "request VID" only in idle state, to benefit from stable vcore when overclocked+load and cool and quiet operation when cpu idles.
p.s.> of course someone will point out that "why not using higher vcore? adjusting the offset to meet the minimum required for 1c loads, eventhough you get higher in 4c/8t?" . In my case that means i may use 1.24-1.25 vcore in 8t loads.. which i just find it waste of watts, especially when the cpu has a 100% load.
p.s.2> assuming the fact the the MHz/requestVID slope actually lowers as MHZ increases, the real needed Vcore, may come close to request VID, and posse no problem to use offset mode, but that may be effective in >46x-47x settings, and doesn't apply to mild/conservative overclocks that want to retain cool&quiet operation when idling :(

I have that exact problem on my P8P67 PRO: it seems to be the way offset mode works, and it happens not to play well with high OCs. At stock speeds a 0.05V-0.1V Vcore difference between single and multiple-thread Turbo is perfectly fine, but at 4.5GHz and over it causes major instability. I haven't found a good solution so far, but trying multiple combinations of LLC, Offset, Additional Turbo Voltage, and C1/C3/C6 might help you get better results.

I've observed aspects of what I think you are describing as well and for the most part run my daily and even some bench o.c. with offset vcore with CIE and all the powerstates enabled. On my first 2600k which was not that strong a sample I found that running vcore offset seemed to help with stabilizing my o.c. Maybe we will see this addressed through future BIOS updates?:shrug: I still use fixed vcore from time to time but usually for high multi benching.
yea, trying different LLC, offset might help (actually might have a setting -priming 1 core right now to check- with that lower vcore to see if it is stable). Additional Turbo Voltage, how does it work exactly? is a different offset only in 1core loads? (because when o/c i actually see no turbo bin added, like being disabled) if so, it will be the solution to our problem :)

Stock cooler = ran Spi and 3dmark too hot to do much else, have run spi at 5.2 but crashed as I am too soft on voltage :rolleyes:
Looking at an H50/70 I think, have to wait 'til next payday >.>
What's the voltage at load?
That's the important part.
Because if you're at 1.380v BIOS and it's dropping to 1.30v load, at 5 ghz, and stable, then you have the best 2600k in the world.
We need the load voltages :) If CPU-Z won't read them properly, use hwmonitor or HWinfo32.
