Need help!!. I have 3 different settings at 1800 linked and synced that pass memtest 2.01 but when I boot into Vista...one of the settings locks up with a black screen, one other gives me frozen desktop and the 3rd is stable enough to run Prime but gives me errors right away.
What should I be looking to adjust if memtest is passing but windows is NFG? If I increase CPU volts past 1.325 I start getting memtest errors.
Thx
0804 Changes (That I have noticed)
1) This BIOS sets NB and SB overheat protection to 110 (Hmmmm)
2) NVMM updated to 4.A084.6806
This BIOS seems like a champion, will explain why later. Will do some basic testing and report back ;)
I just got some goodies in the mail but have been so sick recently that I may wait a day or two to start the build:
I'm trying to avoid swapping my video cards (GTX 280s) to validate each one of them in an attempt to isolate why Lord of the Rings Online crashes in SLi, but not (so far) when SLi is disabled. All settings are at stock on the motherboard (except mem voltage which is set to mem spec of 1.86 and loosened timings of 7-7-7-20-2T).
I suspect it's not either of the cards. But the responsible thing to do is swap the cards and test each one individually to rule out the second card being the source of the SLi issue. But moving around these behemoths is tough on the motherboard and the cards.
I had high hopes that the beta driver release (177.39) yesterday would solve this issue. But I still froze (no error, or BSOD, just hard lock-up) in LotRO within a couple hours while zoning.
Just sharing. Single-card performance isn't too bad. But I just hope the source of the problem isn't my hardware (cards or mboard).
Going to use Vista 64. I am using everything that is in my sig, just going to swap motherboards and go SLI. :)
I also have a LOTRO account and will try it out when I get the rig rebuilt. I have found the LOTRO client to be quite picky in DX10 mode before.
I see, well please let us know if you have any problems with SLI enabled including games and videos.
Also let us know how good those 8gbs perform and if you get any problems and also how good they overclock.
Cool. Will be nice to have someone else trying LotRO out with a similar rig. I'm playing it at "ultra" settings with everything maxed. I can generally play for an hour or two. But then I will freeze while mapping or zoning. Especially, it seems, while entering/leaving the Prancing Pony in Bree.
Though, I'm using XP 64-bit rather than Vista.
Possible causes that I'm considering:
1. Hardware Flaw in Motherboard
2. Hardware Flaw in video card (probably second card since non-SLI seems fine)
3. Driver issue with video card
4. Driver issue with motherboard (nforce)
5. Driver issue with X-fi Titanium PCI-E card (no non-CD driver available)
6. BIOS issue
7. Game issue (Maybe it hates SLi while running w/ Ultra settings)
Currently, I'm slowly validating the video cards. One more night of no crashes in single-card mode and I'll consider my first GTX 280 to be solid.

Slim, did the 0804 BIOS fix your SLi issues or are you just happy with OCing and other stuff?
Yes, I would like to know the same thing... my striker should arrive any day now, and I have 2 GTX280's sat here waiting to go in it. Just debating which bios I should use!
I'm running 280gtx sli (Asus) since 2 or 3 days without any freezes, locks etc @0801
using vista64 on a raid0 with velociraptors, 177.41 forceware and 15.17 nforce but well I had no probs with my 2 9800gx2, too.
gonna give 0804 a try.
I will check if it remains stable and test it with a 3rd asus
Ok it looks like i had a different problem over here, my fault. Checkin`things again.Quote:

The SLi freezes tend to take place during games rather than just being random system freezes. Have you played games for extended durations during those three days. Have you been using 177.41 all along for those three stable days?
Heres what I have for 3dmark06 single 9800 GTX (with stock cooling fan at 100%) after a bit of playing. What do you guys think?

Well I'm reading this thread since it was started and seems I'm a lucky guy =)
Seen a lot of ppl who have freezes with sli, random ones @ idle or during watching videos.
I used the 177.39 until the 177.41 came. The pc runs for about 75h
@ night i ran 3dmark06/vantage and the crysis bench in loops -> no freeze
@ daytime: played age of conan for hours, tested 1-2 dvds and bluray
all voltages @ stock except nb: 1,44/1,46v
the stock value causes freezes but this is due to the 4 ram sticks. But I can run the sys with 2 sticks and 2x 9800gx2/280gtx sli @ nb stock.
don't know if this gonna help you and on the other hand my english isn't the best >.<
Well I got it built.
The install and everything went great, everything super stable. I fire up 3dmark06 and its crashes.
So I checked both GTX280 and on the bottom slot the fan is not working, I touch the card and it is hot enough it burned my finger.
Can you think of any reason that both would power up but the fan would only work on one card? Could I need a bigger PSU? I guess I will have to move them around and troubleshoot what is the problem.
--edit--
Well I took out the problem card and put it in the top slot by itself (no SLI) and the fan works fine. So the card is not the problem, it is either the MB or PSU.
Did you try the NB and SB voltages I suggested mate?
As far as my system goes I did a 6 hour stretch on WoW the other night without any issues what so ever. Vista64, 4gb OCZ, 177.39, 15.17.
I do know that before I got SLI working I would crash out no matter what game I was playing (worst I had was 5 seconds into the game, I hadn't even had time to do anything before the screen froze up).
I must admit to being tempted with the 280's but having just bought the 9800's my wife would kill me if I spent more money (well I won't be telling her about the watercooling project I am working out in my head :p)
I noticed that when I first installed mine, the bottom card's fan was at 100% until I got drivers installed. Whereas the top card was barely putting out any air (though the fan *was* running).
Once I got drivers installed they evened out. So, maybe it's time to reinstall drivers and/or do a cold boot or two?
Best,
H
