so i guess its typical of the vrms to get this hot... :shakes:

What kind of cooling do you have?
I'm pretty sure they are not going to last long at those temps. That 1950Pro was pretty extreme example, in vr-zone review they get 114C and over 120C when overclocking.
If anyone could tell us what are max temps for those VRM's?
In standard cooler I get 72C max temps for vrm's. Some might say even thats too much but I think about 85C would be safe.
One topic I found -look at those temps! Over 120C.
2900 PRO-XT Mod. Full air stock cooler test. Q6600 3950 Mhz air cooler.
3DMARK2006 SINGLE 930 / 981 Mhz : 15207
3DMARK2006 CF 930 / 998 Mhz :21045
3DMARK2003 CF 904 / 994 Mhz :75865
@EXPANDER, very nice clock on air. If you put under water with Vmod bios...
ok so the sinks i have for my vrm's had the worst thermal tape ever on them so i stuck them on with double sided tape *regular stuff.. thin though* i watched the vrm's touch 100 after 18min of running atitool scrubbing for artifacts *reported in rivatuner*
i thought it was way too hot and my tape was the cause so i put the stock cooler back on *well the plate anyways... gotta have the gpu's under liquid* and watched the vrms get up to 118 after the same amount of time! wtf!??! DOUBLE SIDED STUPID TAPE IS BETTER THAN STOCK COOLING!
one thing i did play with is just cooling the black part of the stock plate with compressed air... not much either and i watched my temps DROP. so i think im in need of some good cooling on both sides:rolleyes:
Have a look at how i solved it (post #1027)

The mosfets are perfectly lined up to each other, no need for a thermal pad between chip and heatsink, just AS Ceramique.

ive found that they hynx 1.1 memory bios version is more stable. used to crash all the time now no crash at all... i thought 2900pro's were supposed to have hynx 1.0's but i guess i got 1.1's so if you have flashed from a pro to xt, and are on 1.0 try the 1.1's to get a bit higher memory clock. im running the mem at 990 with stock voltages.[QUOTE]
thanks for that one ZenEffect.
i couldnīt get my mem one mhz above 900 without heavy artifacting in 3dmark06. i didnīt really know that there are cards with different ram chips. i just used a sapphire bios that i found on techpowerup at that time (a week or so after the release of the 2900pro).
i downloaded the hynix1.1 bios and now i can up my mem without any artifacts.
i even tried 999 on the mem, without artifacting, but 3dmark just locks up. guess iīll need a little more volts for the mem then.
edit: lol.. why does that "quote" thing not work???
Is there a Hynx 1.1 bios for the 1gb gddr4 2900pro?
On the xt card I can not get it to run more than 940/970 no mater what volts and it takes 1.35 to do that. The pro card flashed to xt it ran at 985/1071 as a single with 1.35. When I put it in crossfire I had to back it down to 960/1060 I think it was or it would freeze in 3DMark06...
Hmm.... thats interesting. I have a question. Does your XT flashed pro get the same core overclock with a volt modded pro bios?
Also, I just recieved the d-tek unisink r600 version, and I have a question. It comes with a thin aluminum heatspreader (no fins or anything) for the memory on the back of the card. But on the back I already have the ramsinks that came with the thermalright hr-03, there are three of those sinks in total, one for each row of ram chips. They are also aluminum but have nice flared fins, unlike the d-tek aluminum heatspreader. Should I keep the thermalright ramsinks, or use the d-tek heatspreader?
seems my video cards like 1.30 volts better than 1.35
1.30 let me clock higher than 1.35
I am not sure, I did not try it. I just flashed it to a xt and then started messing with it and ended up taking a card out and checking each one individually and running 3DMark06 until it failed and back off the clocks a little bit. I remember my first xt I could clock to 910/1070 with atitool but I RMA it and got a not so good of card evidently. The pro card ran higher than what I have it right now by itself but would not do those clocks when put back in crossfire...
Last night I ordered my 2nd 2900xt 1Gb GDDR4, along with a Koolance VID-290 water block for it too.
Come on Crossfire!
Should all be in by Wednesday, I'll update pic posting after I assemble Thursday.
Hope you, or someone can help me!
Right now with my mild overclock and just one card I get the following score; I know they are bad, hope this will change when my second GPU arrives wednesday:

What do you suggest?
Also, On my catalist control center, under overclocking; I have unlocked and set to 743Mhz on GPU clock, and 1000Mhz on memory clock, but current clock settings read low Why? see following:

Is this because I am not runing something now or what? also how can I monitor this while playing a game or something that demands performance.
Please advise! thank you in advance
