Ok about my tri crossfirex setup, I am using vista premium 64bit os, and have ccc 8.4 and drivers installed. but still unable to get it to enable crossfire, it's still telling me I need to connect both crossfire bridges on my hd3870, and it's reading it as the main card, where I have to have it hooked up as my default monitor, and my 2nd monitor on my hd3870x2. So I have no clue what's going on and why I can't run 3gpu setup with these cards. :shrug:

Yes it does make a difference. Make sure the filename is typed in the same case (upper or lower) as the actual file and make sure there are spaces.
Just pop'd a Q6600 back in, bought it from ZenEffect ( has a nice and low VID)
My old quad ran at 450x8 with 1.52 volts, under full load I never saw temps above 65c.
This new quad at 425x9 with 1.45 volts, under full load it hits almost 80c
So my question is why the hell is it running so hot? Loop is still the same no changes made. Redid the tim twice, everytime I removed the water block it was well spread with full coverage. There is not a huge difference between cores maybe 3 or 4 degrees tops.
Any suggestions besides putting it in the fridge?

This seems to be a problem with lower VID chips. They clock MUCH better (as a general rule) but they are MUCH MUCH hotter!!!!!

i encountered the same thing, with a previous 737b668 i had w/ vid 1.325 i could run 1.6volts and would have the same temps as im having @ 1.464, but the cpu was not clocked nearly as high. my belief on this is that heat output is more due to mhz rather than volts. i lapped my cpu and it only dropped temps 3c so to combat that i just added more radiators and put all my fans in push pull 110cfm. now its nice and cool. i dont understand how or why it heats up that quickly but seeing it now on yours as well only makes me believe that the faster the cpu runs, the hotter it will get even without a voltage change. i guess i can confirm or bust this when i get home and try same volts w/ lower speed. what worked for me was adding another 2.120 rad. if you want i can send you the remainder of my cool laboratories liquid pro to see if that helps. should be good for a few more applications as ive only used it once. another thing i did to drop temps was on my gpu's i lowered the vcore to .875 and underclocked it while in 2d mode.Quote:

which is basically a creative chip stuck on a seriously high end sound card. The creative brand cards are not nearly as good as this guy when it comes to analog output and input.
The Audiophile is an excellent card but you're limited to 4 channels. How do they acc. for the many experienced users that knew how to cool them and ime them to last. Mine are over a year old now. I only recently managed to reduce vdimm under BETA v1004 casue of the trfc 50 setting. Best I can figure is the many score chacers forcing the tightest timings w/ hi=ghest vdimm (just to bench it) and wearing them donw. I believe you can stress any good RAM if you treat it like that.
As for the few, (retail reviews) who had bad experiences, I'd also bet a majority of it to user knowladge. I knew from the get go (like it or not) they get hot and need to be kept cool. But too many claimed RAM doesnt get hot enough to need any fancy cooling (quoted from many forums).
What RAM is taking Crucials place on X38/X48 for smooth DDR1200 on a 2 stick cinfig, either 2x 1gb or 2x 2gb. I'd like to stay with OCZ. Who has some good OCZ PC2-8500 to 1200+ on reasonable vdimm.

Ohn the sound issues, I'm running a Creative Audigy 2 ZS (carry over from my last rig) under Vista x64 and it often starts making a nasty buzzing cracking noise (in the speakers, not the card itself). Quitting the player (it can happen in any one) and restartin the player always solves it.
I'm gonna dump this creative crap asap.
Anyone have some settings to run a 4GB kit of Patriot 1066 at 1066 speeds? I was running a 2Gb kit of Muskin 1066 without any problems at all. The Patriot will run at 800 easily, but any attempt to get them to run at 1066 just hangs at the det ram section of the LCD poster.
Ram is in the blue slots currently, voltage set to 2.3, timings at 5-5-5-15, NB is at 1.34 volts, SB at 1.06 volts. Pretty much everything else is at auto.
Check what your tRFC value is.
Which bios are you using?

My PSU fried a couple days ago. I put in a replacement (Tt 1200w), and now I have a problem:
I can only POST at BIOS defaults. If I change ANYthing in BIOS that requires a cold restart (any OC change), the system will shutdown immediately after restart (it only comes on for a fraction of a second). HOWEVER, if I change anything in BIOS that doesn't require the cold restart (like changing the boot priorities), it's fine.
The only way to POST after it's failed the cold restart is to reset CMOS (at this point, the POSTer still reads, "EN SETUP"). This works 100% of the time and it will even load the OS with no problems at BIOS defaults.
I've re-flashed and even tried flashing back to Maximus BIOS, but I still have this problem. I've swapped out RAM and the video card, which has no difference.
Could it be a PSU problem? Or is my board fried? Kudos to anyone who can help me diagnose this.
my first thought is the motherboard, but it would be cheaper and faster to test the psu first to see if that is the issue as it would be the easiest and fastest thing to fix/replace.Quote:

Ordered, new purchace? or just RMA on warrenty? RMA is fine, only cost of shipping to test.. but it wouldnt cost but a moment to try a different SPU of 2 diffeent brands. like maybe SilverStone or OCZ.
Oh and I notice 1200w more poplar now. Is anybody really consuming that much energy to OC to as average as we see on this form? i havent even outgrew 700 watts and a 2nd one is still on an old 600 and is fine. I guess it's tru, more of the amps then watts.
I purchased a new one, and I'll RMA the (probably) fried board. It's too inconvenient have to use my wife's computer for three+ weeks.
If anyone else has any ideas, I'd love to hear it. I know there probably isn't a solution, but if anyone has theories of the likely culprit, I'm still interested.

Okay, I've had it! My board is dying and I no longer have any patience. I think I'm going to take this piece up north with me next month and put it out of its misery w/ an 8mm 196gr fmj.
Seriously though, something here just isn't right. When I first set this board up when it was released I was able to run 4-1GB Mushkins w/o any problems but over the last month the board has been really unstable with 4 sticks of RAM. On cold boots I'd have to enter the BIOS due to OC failure to find that the BIOS has my DIMM voltage set at 1.9V even though I have it set to 2.12V. After exiting the BIOS screen I have to wait for the PSU to turn off and then on before the computer would boot properly.
I've followed everyone's suggestions on this board and on other boards but none of them have worked. I have also ran a few loops of Memtest and my OC was 4 hours+ stable under OCCT using both RAM/Blend. I never BSOD'd or had any lock-ups while encoding or playing games.
Yesterday I decided to pull two sticks of RAM to see if the problem would go away and sure enough everything is fine. When I cold boot I no longer have to enter the BIOS and the BIOS holds the DIMM voltage where I set it. For some reason I can no longer run 4gigs of RAM on this board. How does this happen? I even tried to run 4 gigs of Patriot PC8500 but ran into the same problems. The RAM works great until I make changes that require more than 1.90V at which time I get a Det Ram error again.
Oh well, the board was fun while it lasted. I ordered a DFI X48 from Newegg today and should have it by Wednesday. Thanks to those who helped me set this bastard up so many months ago--I don't think they come around here anymore. Maybe I'll see some of you guys over in the DFI x48 thread in the future:up:.

I'm sorry, does the board come with 4 RAM slots or only 2? Were the white slots just decorations then, a little eye candy? If your car dropped two cylinders would you still drive it our would you get it fixed?Quote:

While some has complained that Ballistix Tracers are incompatible with this mobo, I'm one of the others who has no trouble OC a pair of Ballistix Tracers 1066 kit with this mobo. I've both the 1st and 2nd revision of the Ballistix Tracers are they're working perfectly with this mobo.

Yeah, I spent most of Saturday/Sunday running Memtest, first with all 4 sticks then just two at a time and they never kicked up any errors. I've been using the 4x1GB Mushkins (purchased at the same time from Mushkin as a 4 gig kit) since I purchased this board, 10/24, w/o any problems. It wasn't until about a month ago that this issue started happening. I don't think its the RAM since I also tried it with a 4 gig kit of Patriot RAM that are brand new from an RMA and were tested back in November.Quote:

My OC is fine. I've tested and retested it many of times using OCCT and Prime95 and it has never failed at its current settings nor has windows crashed, locked-up, or BSOD'd while gamming or encoding.
I'm not about to purchase more RAM when I have two kits that are working fine. All I need is a stock pile of DDR2 when I plan on switching over to DDR3 in the fall.

Agreed. This is an overclockers and or gamers mobo. If you must use 4gb RAM, invest in a server or high end workstation. I stated so many times in this and the other forums the disadvantages of forcing 4 slot RAM usage when overclocking. The extra slots are there for jdec spec @ 4x DDR800 and at rated spds. This mobo can do as a workstation to a certain degree but is aimed toward the gamers and enthusiast overclockers and we never fussed with 4 sticks of RAM. I have a server for that stuff.
As for the car, my car can seat 6 full sized adualts and tow a 2t trailer, but my gas mlg. and road handlig would suck and my tranny would be shot out in no time with all that stress. There's a spot on a race car for a trailer hitch too but I wouldnt use it.
So look again at the stable daily OC'd profiles, like mine and others like it. Spec'd for daily stability, not just to score benches. And I am the other one who uses Ballistix Tracers PC2-8500 for almost 1 year no probs on P35, and this X38.
