you are probably undervolting either vcore or memory, or, both!
But if this is a first ever start of the PC? What then?
RAM is cheap Transcend (1.8v).
I'm trying to clock my memory using the 1:1.25 divider using 16B04 but CPUZ and Memset are reporting that I am running 1:1, the frequency the memory runs at seems to fluctuate from below 1:1 to 1:1.25 and back
Anyone have this problem/know how to tell what my memory is clocked at for sure?
you guys have a very interesting and very helpful thread...this is why I'm considering this board.
now I'm not an OC'er so reading this thread, it seems this board is good to go from the beginning.
so far I have a 4GB DDR2 (2x2gb) Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5DHX and probably would go with a Q6600.
any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated
many thanks to Ace-a-Rue for compiling most of the FAQ and helpful hints.
this is a darn good board...just have to realize that it has vdroop.
i like to take credit for all the good information here but i contributed maybe 10-20%...others have provided excellent information...one thing here in this thread, you won't be talked down to...we have to many sarcastic posters in other threads who think they know a lot of sh*it about computers but in the end they usually make fools of themselves.
i rather be constructive, helpful in my posts than to criticize someone else for self-satisfaction.:)
I'm running a Q6600 on this board and am having trouble with intel's speedstep. I have it stable at 3.2 ghz (8x400) and have tested it a few hours of prime95 running without errors. If I enable speedstep, Vista won't even boot and either locks up or gives a BSOD stop error while starting up (reboots too fast to actually read the stop errors). I can boot at 3.2 ghz (9x356) and 2.848 ghz (8x356) with no problems. The ram tested fine under memtest for 12 hours at 8x400 settings, so that shouldn't be it. I am running bios 14. Should I update the bios? Any other ideas on what causes the instability/not being able to boot into Vista?
do you have C1E enabled?
There seems to be a lot of interest in Thermalrights HR-09 PWM heatpipe cooler, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to fit the IP-35.
Been searching around a bit, but I haven't really found any hard facts about why it doesn't fit. Was ordering a HR-05 for the northbridge, so I ordered a HR-09 just for fun.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8770/breddesg2.jpg
Obviously, that's no fun. It's simply not wide enough to cover all the MOSFETSs.
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/8...rskjellqa0.jpg
Not even close...
Well, there's got to be a way, right? Since I work for the local power company, I have no problem getting my hands on some copper.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5465/cupb5.jpg
Not a beauty...
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/7740/ujevnmh2.jpg
Not flat either :p
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/3406/frmontva2.jpg
Well, I guess that as good as it gets from a 4am cu-job.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9706/prvexq6.jpg
AS5 between the copper plate and the HR-09.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7817/ferdigzc2.jpg
And there we are. Worth all the hassle? Nah, but I didn't really have anything important to do. Well, sleep, but maybe I'll do that tomorrow :D
I'll post som temps after some proper testing, but now I have to go to work in an hour.
As I have stated, I'm not into OC'ing...and from what I have Google so far about vdroop, it's for folks that OC.
I'm more like order parts, assembly, bling it and play...no tinkering around something I don't understand.:p:
Though I didn't see my 4GB Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5DHX listed within this thread, Corsair DOES list it on their compatible memory for this board:
"800MHz at the low latencies of 5-5-5-18", per Corsair
So hopefully soon I can experience this Abit IP35...

Ace-a-Rue: This is obviously not optimal, and I really wanted to use a thinner copper plate, but 5mm was all I could find that wasn't allready full of holes.
I really just wanted to see if I could make it fit.
I just got home from work, so I'll try to get some testing done.
Sorry to get off topic, but can someone post a link to some sites where I can get the latest drivers be it beta or not. Abit's website isn't the latest whatsoever. Thanks in advance.
@kakarlsen try superglue instead of the AS5 for between the copper and sink.
well my roomate and i both have the ip35 pro, and we are both doing the vdroop mod tonight. and his quad(b3)/mobo has the wickedest droop ever.:(
bios setting 1.6v
read with DMM
idle= 1.54
Load= 1.43
3.75ghz orthos stable
thats WAYYYYYYY to much droop for me. especially for the B3 q6600 that cries for volts. :p:
Peace, love & respect
Tomorrow i'll get an 8400 to replace a 6750 on my 2nd rig (along with some other stuff).
Will post back my oc findings...
I got version 1.1 of this motherboard and I am awaiting delivery of a Q6600 from Komplett.ie (it was shipped on friday , should arrive weds or thursday). I ordered both motherboard and CPu on monday evening but the CPU didnt come into stock until Friday. Ive checked the heatpipe on the motherboard and it is touching all chips / mosfets.
I also got some Zalman ZM-STG1. I know its not super TC but its better than what comes with the Heatsink Intel provides. This will be used with my XSPC X2O Pro WaterCooling Kit. So I am hoping that I will get a good OC. But I will have to wait until I get good ram because last Thursday my 2 sticks of 1gig Corsair Dominator died on me. I will be buying 3 gig of Crucial Ballistix 8500 instead. I had the two sticks of ram tested on a different motherboard each inserted seperately but the other computer souldnt boot up , so I bought a 2gig stick of Kingston Value ram to get me by until I get new ram.
Anyway I am after getting some info that I can use to get the q6600 up to 3.6ghz.
And I got the following info from this thread which should also help.Quote:
Vcore 1.48 ( Droops down to 1.4v underload)
Cpu VTT 1.27
MCH 1.44
GTL REF Both @ 69%
this 8x450......
Is there anything else I should know for OC'ing an Intel because I am new to intel. I always run my computers with AMD parts but AMD suck lately.Quote:
I do run 1.65 on the ICHIO and 1.44 MCH -for ram to run properly++
all right, adjust your voltages to this:
MCH = 1.56 or 1.64
ICHIO = 1.70 or 1.80
Vdimm = 2.3 or 2.4
DDR2 REF = PLUS 2%
and memory timing to at least CAS 5...i would really try: 5-5-5-15 (or 18) and 42-48
Hi guys,
Thanks for the thread, got the IP35 Pro motherboard.
I was preparing to do the heatpipe mod, but then a thought stopped me cold in my tracks.
Does the heatpipe mod void the warranty?
Ace-a-Rue,
I've got a question for you about the Heatpipe Mod...
If I will only be doing a Conservative OC of a Q6600 G0 to 3.0ghz on a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme, do I really need to do the Heatpipe Mod?
Thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated,
-BassKozz
try it first like you want to see how the temps work out and the overclock.
Will do, then I'll report back... but it might be a few, the parts are all coming from different e-tailers (best prices).
Thanks again for all the great info/help
Here's my mosfet block. Only had cheapo drill-press, B&D RTX (dremel), and hack-saw, files, etc.... I just used the stock TIM pad, as the mosfets definitely weren't level with each other. It's at the end of my 2nd loop - 8800GT>SB>NB>PWM. D-tek 1/2" G-1/4" barbs
Keeps PWM at 37c if you can trust the sensors.

http://www.daemonfly.com/images/mozarttx/mosblock2.jpg
It's mounted to #4-40 studs with a 3/16" aluminum back-plate with 1/16" neoprene rubber insulating it.
Just got OS installed, and some stuff set up. Waiting for lines to bleed out (still a few bubbles here & there). Then I'll start OCing.
Daemonfly
vdroop mod helped the q6600 B3 get from 3.6 to 3.8 with same settings in bios as i had for 3.6... :p: :) :D
idle 1.55v
load 1.54v
620ohms was perfect...
Hey guys. First time poster here just letting everyone know my new purchase. On Sunday night i ordered a E8400 cpu and a Abit IP35 Pro. Should be shipping today since yesterday was MLK day. Anyway what can i expect when i start this bad boy up? any type of things i should watch out for when overclocking it? And i am def. going to do the cooling mod that Ace posted as well as lapping my proc. I have heard some things about the dual boot issue and was wondering how it can be fixed? Also, when is the next bios rev. coming out? I know the 16 is in beta right now so anyone know when it will be in its final stage? Appreciate all the help guys. Cant wait to get this bad boy running!!:)
Hi I got myself an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard, Q6600 processor, and a 8800GT graphics card. My first problem is that uGuru reports CPU temps lower than what Coretemp reports. If I chane the uGuru Mode to Normal sometimes my CPU fan is switched off. Is this a known problem? I have uninstalled uGuru and did not have the problem since. My Bios is ver 14 and the uGuru version is the one which shipped with the mobo. Everything is at stock.
My second question is that I have bought a HR03 GT cooler for the 8800Gt card. There are two installation methods. Can anybody please tell me whether the wrap around method works with this borad? I want to fix a 92 mm fan also on that Heatsink.
First time poster here. Thanks.
the cpu fan header is designed for intel heatsink and fan...it has problems with ordinary 3 pin fans...i recommend switching to AUX 1 or 2.
cpu temp from uguru or bios interpolated temp; this is a known problem for all mobo's...coretemp is the most accurrate since it is sensing from the DTS sensors....if you are using a kentsfield, 65nm cpu, the DTS readouts are probably very accurate...but...if it is a 45nm processor, the DTS has problems itself of producing accurate temp readouts.
read this article which indicates intel has a QC problem with these newer 45nm processors and DTS reading:
http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=6317
oh yea forgot to add that my mobo is rev v1.1 and the vdroop mod works. as some were saying it does not.
Can someone point me in the direction of the "vdroop mod" for this board...
I've heard many talk of it but I haven't seen any links?
EDIT: Nm, found it http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=152233
BassKozz, yes thats Johnny Bravo go page 2 middleways down, you will see how the vmod is done.
Thanks Ace.
Can anybody please post a pic of a HR03 GT+8800Gt with this board? I want to have a look how this combo fits before I try it myself
TIA.
So did anyone nail down an answer on when we will get half multiplier support?
so how well does the psu of the board hold up with only a 4phase setup and 3 fets per phase.. i am seriously considering this for a build now.. i am hearing not to use 4 phase for a quad oc..any issues with overheated fets.. i am seeing some with other boards with only a 4 phase setup and the fets melting down

Has anybody managed to get memory working at 600? I've tried all the dividers voltages and bioses. No way
HI to all, that's my first POST. I am just wondering if the BALLISTIX can hit 4-4-4-12 @ 1000MHz with the BOARD(with a good CPU, of course)?! What's your experience with this?! Are G.Skill's stix good choice too? I would be pleased if you share some timing & frequency settings! 10x
EH? That aint your first post. Anyway I am opting for some 2GB CellShock DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz (5-5-5-15) Dual Channel kit ram today.
Is the beta bios supposed to give better OC?
Ive tried both Beta 03 and Beta 04 but my cpu seems to be running fairly warm even with watercooling. two cores are running @ between 38 and 40 celcius on Idle.
Anybody with 8500? Confirm that .5multi is working? I've sent an e-mail to abit 3 days ago but no reply yet.
My E8400 comes in tonight so hopfully I'll beable to play with this a bit. Going to try the B16 04 drivers tonight, as long as I got some time to do it.
Hi guys, My first post in this Thread. As i just build New system with P35Pro
I got E8400 Q740A523 Pack Date 12/27/07
Now just so you know i have a kick ass water cooling 120.3 so cooling is decent.
My best not 100% Stable OC was 456x9 which is about 4100mhz at 1.48 Volts in CPUZ after all the Vdroops. So i aint too happy. Yes i did check FSB Wall, which did get to at least 490(i didn't take it higher) and Memory also checked, it can do 1100 with 2.1
So now the question is. Do i have a crappy CPU? I was hoping for 4.5 I've tried raising all the voltages 1 by one and nothing seems to help other then Raising CPU Vcore. Any suggestions?
also I have bios 14 and TEMPS for The CPU are not showing, can anyone confirm that the Beta bios shows temps properly. My temps jump form 5-8c all the way to 127c, so i can't really tell how hot CPU is.
Can you people with E8400 and this Mobo post your settings in bios. And i did read through all 80 pages last night so i have an idea but there are no reports yet with this mobo and CPU. Thanks!
well, i woke up again this morning to my board not wanting to boot with 4X1Gb. No amount of voltage changing helped. I am however still on bios 14 (latest official), would this be a possible reason for it being fussy with 4Gb? Would 16 beta help?
well, just did some more testing. I loaded up 16B3 and still the memory wouldnt work. So i did some swapping back and forth. With one of my 2X1Gb kits the computer wont post. With the other it does. Guess it must be the memory after all. After redialing my OC i accidentally ended up booting into windows with this:D
I put it back very quickly though, but i was just surprised that these Ballistix would do that speed at default voltage and timings.
Anybody have any luck getting a decent OC with Wolfdale and IP35-Pro? On ABIT forums, some users say the 1.4 BIOS has lots of problems running 45nm chips and doesn't report temps properly either.
tripleflip, if you need that much VCore to break 4ghz with E8400, i have to assume either you have a really really bad chip or there is something wrong with your mobo, settings, cooling, etc
Well my experiences with this board and the 8400 have had a few quirks.
First off the temps dont read right in core temp or anything
Uguru overclocking panel reads incorrect voltages to set
I have to set the voltage in bios WAY high to get the desired voltage (ie. 1.51v for 1.44v actual, measured Via. DMM and CPUz
So we really need a BIOS update and a uguru update.
try the beta 16.B04 bios
Yeah Like I said Im not too happy. At the moment Im running everything Stock and system freezes randomly. It will run orthos for 2 hours i stop orthos and go about business, it will freeze randomly, then everything stock i had hard time getting into windows, would freeze as soon as i'd log in. I've Changed PCIE from 1.0a to 1.0 and havn't had such a crash yet, maybe that was holding my OC back. Finishing installing software then i'll do Bios update and report back with hopefully more successfull story. Can you guys suggest any settings that i should be trying?
thanks
Thats what im using.
As for overclocking thats going ok, I got 4.32ghz stable@1.44v, 4.5 ghz@1.55v-stable and 4.64ghz@1.61v-not too stable tho.
It boots at 5ghz and starts to load windows but hangs. tried all the way to 1.71v, still nothing, maxxed all voltages on the board and 2.45v on the ram with loose timings, wont do it.
your wright we do need a bios update.keep us udated with the 8400,iam thinking of buying one.
I hope one of you guys can help me here. I got an IP35 Pro and a Q6600. now I Have 3 different programs that can take temps. I had Core temp running at first but I was getting weird temperature readings. On core temp its reading 2 cores as 36 celcius and two at 42 celcius. So I tried everest and I got the same reading. So I then ran Speedfan and its reading all cores at 21 celcius.
Ive tried Bios 16 B04 , 16 B03 and im now on biow 14 again. So is there something wrong with the temperature readings or is my CPU running hot. Also I am using wattercooling on my CPU and I am only at 3ghz oc with the cpu at 1.4v.
Bios 16B04 and 16B03 are both off on vcore and cpu vtt with my E8400. With 1.35v selected in bios uguru shows 1.25v, DMM shows 1.28v. I get about .1v less shown by uguru than what I select in bios. Cpu vtt seems to be the same way so the current bios for this board does not properly support Wolfdale overclocking.
i like beta 16.B03 Bios it seems be the best bios for the Q6600, my temps run31 30 32 33 if this helps.
I dont think Bios 14 supports wolfdale?
give us your specs in your signature so we ALL know what processor and so forth.
GUYS!...you whine about this board not doing this or that, but, you fail to spell out your hardware specs in your signature.
when you tell us your voltages like above (which is very good) but do not spell out your complete hardware scenario, there is not a thing anyone can do for you.
Alright Ace-a-Rue, updated my sig, updated Bios. First tried in windows and Comp froze and programming DMI 25% I was like Fu**!! waited 5 min hoping it would finish, had to reset the comp and to my surprise it worked like nothing happened. So then i had to learn how to flash in USB. Did it and now im on 16.04 and OC is exactly same. I have not gotten it to 4.35 but that was with 1.55volts in cpuz. Ok now i have a few questions about this Motherboard
Temprature PWM, ON load it gets all the way to 55c. I put a fan on it and its at 48c. Is that still too high and could that be whats cousing low OC?
How come Power saving feature don't work in this motherboard? When Idle Multiplier doesn't drop to 6 and neither does voltage. I've just built 2 other systems and it works on both of those. I'd like to save energy as my comp is probably 50% Idling/browsing.
How hot can i push Penryn for no damage to happen?
Any More tips to get this CPU to 4.5 without crazy Volts to cpu?
thanks. I wanna hear other people with E8400 and this motherboard, share your results/settings please!
Edit sry wrong thread..
what is your workable FSB/MHZ (stable using wPrime 1024M stability bench) for your E8400?
your PWM temps appear ok but you only have 2 cores...did you do the heatpipe mod?...if not, i recommend doing it...i remember one poster saying his board was acting funky until he did the heatpipe mod..his system and PWM temps appeared normal without the mod; so you can not really tell if you have a mediocre chip or it is the board that is holding you back in relation to heat issues.
what is the VID for your E8400?
i am trying to find if there is a relation between real low VID's and whether that correlates to a so, so overclocker like my 9650, which has a 0.9625v VID...my 9650 will do stock speed and wPrime 1024M stability bench at 1.03 vcore...see if you chip will do 3ghz at 1.03 vcore...i had EIST and C1E disabled for this test.
you should have EIST and C1E enabled in order for the power saving feature of the processor to work...BUT...that will defeat any meaningful overclock which you are trying to attain...EIST and C1E can support a low to medium overclock but not a high overclock.Quote:

did you mean to say a Wolfdale?Quote:

any vcore above default is going to shorten the life of the processor...you just have to determine how long you want to keep the processor before upgrading with regards to how much vcore you are comfortable with.
that said, i would think anything above 1.5(ish) range can or will seriously shorten the life of the CPU....i would stay at 1.55v as the max vcore for long term use...i've tried higher but only for short periods just to see if the overclock could be sustained and how much heat was produced....that was on my 1st 9650...the 2nd 9650 has severe limitations when going above 4ghz...heat produced and current draw are into the stratosphere.;)
if the chip was an excellent overclocker, it wouldn't need very high vcore.Quote:

EDIT:...how do you make your seagates 7200.11 drives overclock to 10K RPM drives?
No problem man. Im just wondering if the temps are wrong or if I have something done wrong with my watercooling.
Got my E8400 yesterday up and running with the Beta 16.04 bios. Bios 14 does work but only issue with it is that tempatures are really screwed with it. Beta 16.04 is ok with tempature readings but its still messed up.
4.05Ghz w/ 1.37V Bios (1.21V CPU-z which I've found in the past with my E6400 is almost dead on for proper voltage reading amazingly). I get roughly 50-52C Load temps.
My CPU last night was testing at 1.35V Bios (1.19V CPU-z) and failed after 1 hour but not sure if it was CPU voltage or if it was the northbridge voltage that was causing the issue so I raised both and ran fine. Results below.
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/2...rimeeq0.th.jpg
Thank GOD I have a fellow mate with IP35 PRO + BIOS 14 and screwed up temps. I'm getting dumb temps with mine too so I'll update to Beta 04 in a bit.
Hei all, what's the difference between these versions of the mobo(1; 1.0; 1.1)?! Some say 'I have IP35pro Snake' - what does it mean? Shuold i ask for that info, when i purchase it next month?!
The guy wrote this:
'After 3 months of using Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4Gb @ 1066, 2.2v, active cooled, only ONE of FOUR modules survived, booting 900MHz at most ....'
His sign says:
"Q6600 G0 @3.65Ghz on Air | ASUS Maximus Formula | 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC-8500 (Corsair Air Cooled)| XFX 8800GTX XXX | X-Fi Platinum Fatality Champion | 150GB WD Raptor + 320GB Seagate SATA II | Benq 1655 | Corsair HX620W PSU | 21" Samsung SyncMaster 215tw |" ,
if that matters.
In the other forum they comment more on that ram, but it's a pity, isn't it?! They also say:
"Some test had been made, on modules based on Micron chips, and there is no evidence that there are bad batches, based on these chips" or something like this. The Ballistix are Micron D9 based!
They had the info from another thread here in the XtremeSys forum.
However, let's not write about these Ballistix any more - after all, the thread is about the Abit ip35Pro mobo!
i was stopped short of my ddr2 specs by about the same...some boards are better to tweaking memory...DFI has a gazillion tweaks in the memory section which can possibly get you close to maximum or over it....this board does have its limitations but for the PRICE, you really can't go wrong.
Ace-a-Rue
The absolute max FSB and MHZ i had yesterday was 495x9 with Vcore of 1.6, temps in guru showed 50c but they're probably wrong. And that wasn't stable. Max stable i was able to get is 4.25Mhz at about 1.54
Again memory is not a bottleneck, yesterday i booted up 500x6 and memory was fine, so is the front side bus i guess
I really can't do the heatpipe mode since its so difficult to work in this case and i would take me half/day to take out/put back in all the stuff in the case
How can i find out VID? I see people have vid in the coretemp but i got vista x64 and its not working so any other way?
I have EIST and C1E Enabled Right now, running it everything stock but with manual settings, 334x9 With core voltage 1.15 it ran orthos all night so its stable, but once again EIST and C1E are not working. Its not dropping the multiplier
How can i make Vcore lower then lowest? cause the lowest i can get is 1.15 in CPUZ
I did mean to say Wolfdale
And thats just a joke about 10k hard drives hehe
anyone know of a temperature monitoring program works with this board that you can have it display temps in tray like systool does?
Not sure, I can surely try it at home. I was using 1.41 before I switched to 1.43, and it was missing some information in there so really didn't take a look before I moved up.
Yup my VID is 0.975V. When you mean actual do you mean CPU-z read or Bios set voltage? I haven't taken it past 1.37V Bios (1.21V CPU-z) yet, and plan on actually trying to drop it now that I figured that my northbridge wasn't recieving enough voltage for me to run higher clocks. I'm not sure I want to crank my voltage up much past 1.4V currently til I get an actual real bios for my board just to make sure Im reading my proper temps.
I can't read my PWM temps at all since I don't know of a program that can read that in Vista 64-bit. Might work if I go into disabled signed driver mode but I do not launch Vista that way.
Everything Auto, Voltages and Clock, EIST and C1E still not throttling down. Like i said i'd like this feature because at least 50-75% of the time computer is in idle.
Anyone with E8400 Tried EIST and C1E and found it NOT working?
Everything Stock in Load its 1.13vcore and totally Stable. I wish i Could go lower but Bios won't let me, my older P956 DS3 let me chose any voltage and im almost certain chip would be able to go lower. Are there any hidden options in this motherboard that you can enable with like CTRL + F1?
Yeah I got no speedstep at all with mine either.
As well my lowest set voltages I can pick is 1.2V bios (1.06V CPU-z) which sucks since heck my VID is 0.975V so surely it could be lower if needed. I know one of my older boards could go nice and low. Wish I had the option still to do it, think it was my Asus P5B-Deluxe that could go down to 1.1V at least selectable in Bios.
Well the last official bios was 14 at 09/06/07. And there was only 4 of them. I think abit sucks in this matter. I e-mailed them twice and i believe i'm one among many. Abit you can keep ignoring us

So I then ran Speedfan and its reading all cores at 21 celcius.
Ive tried Bios 16 B04 , 16 B03 and im now on biow 14 again. So is there something wrong with the temperature readings or is my CPU running hot. Also I am using wattercooling on my CPU and I am only at 3ghz oc with the cpu at 1.4v dude if you look back one page you would see that i did answer you, anyway uguru temps are off about 10to12c i use CPUID HwMonitor , my temps 31,31,33,33.
steve30x, sorry about the post mess up.
