**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

First time poster here, long time lurker. I'm still very new to building and this will be my first Intel rig. Two AMD X2's under my belt, but I do have a few questions. Listed below is what I have purchased and already own. I want to be able to archive a descent overclock (3.2 > ). Im still debating on a liquid system although thats a completely different thread. My two main questions relate to the MB and some components I already own. I've read the manual for the MB and says you can use a power supply with a 20 Pin/4 Pin ATX power connectors instead of the 24 pin/8 pin ATX. My current power supply has 24 Pin ATX and a 4 Pin ATX, is this going to cause a problem? Should I just buy a new PSU? My next question is regarding windows installation. Previously when installing windows on a SATA drive (non-raid) I had to hit F6 and load the SATA Driver (Asrock crap) before windows installation, do I have to follow the same procedure for this MB as well? Does this apply to XP and Vista? . BTW, I'm also looking for a mentor to help me OC' once the computer is built. I've done my homework on OC'ing so all i would really need is some help with specific bios options and memory timings.

CoreTemp and RightMark CPU Clock Utility (and of course uGuru) work fine here; XP Pro (32-bit) on IP-35 Pro.

On my system only everest and rightmark cpu clock utility work fine... TAT doesn't start and coretemp crash and reboot my pc...

Is TAT the Intel app? If so, I don't think it works with this board (could be the chipset - I dunno). :(

Yes Intel Thermal analisys tool...

Everest says 21C for mobo... Is it true???? My 965 was 40C!!!!

how come other boards doesn't seem to have this PWM overheating problem =/

interesting. my PWM hit around 65C at 3.78 ghz

wow, did u change anything on your mobo? I did the mod ace posted, and added 2 40mm fans even over the mofest and north bridge, but the temps are just so freaking high...

could this be a possible defect mobo or something =s

no changes. stock heatpipe.

i have a 70mm fan over the NB and 120mm over the mosfet area :)

i think my temps may be lower than yours due to my mobo being out of the case

how are you getting the heat build-up out of the case...i have two rear mounted 120mm fans turning at 2.5K (105 or 110 cfm).

my idle PWM temp is at 39-40C at 3600 Mhz...(case door is closed)

you might try removing the side cover and then running a stress program to see if the PWM temps get that high...my PWM max was like 63C when priming at 3704 Mhz with the side case door removed...i also have two 80mm fans blowing on the memory and into the CPU socket area where the sensor is located...i used 3M 2-way sticky tape to lock those 80's onto the other side door...i used small plastic ties to secure both fans together...i'll see if i can get a picture of it to post up here.

Remount your heatpipe, sounds like a bad mount, maybe the contact is uneven?

Anyone going to try the new HR-09 on their PWMS? I'm tempted so I can use my VC-RE for my NB :D

here is a pic showing how i mounted the two 80mm fans...one fan blowing on the memory and the other is blowing under the ultra at the base of the cpu socket where the PWM area is located....the higher the rpm blowing into the cpu socket area the lower the PWM temperature.

well, before i remounted the heatpipes, the temps would reach 80c at 3.6 under load as well, just a lot quicker than now, so i don't think its actually bad mount

i only have 1 fan leading air out of the case behind my thermalright ultra, and i don't have the fans on top

i just tried opening my case, and the temp dropped for about 2-3c? which doesn't help much i don't think... :S

i guess ill have to get 2 80mm fans on top like you ace, that is if i can find some space to mount them =s

just another question, whats a normal temps for the system temperatures in uguru? Mines like 44c most of the time after the computer's been turned on for a while. Is that also high? =S

@ Ace-a-Rue, or someone else that has done the heatpipe TIM job: I'll be getting my Q6600 tomorrow and thought that while I swap chips I may as well take the board out of my case and do the v-droop mod and remount the heatpipe assembly with a better TIM. (pwm temps are good on mine, but the nb contact looks sketchy) Just a quick question on that so I can be prepared for the job. I inferred from your post about the TIM not melting that the stock stuff is a thermal tape or something of that nature and not a paste. Is that correct?

If by hitting f6 you mean you would have to have a floppy with sata haddrive drivers on it and install it before you could install windows, then no, you don't need to do that with this board.

Thanks ! Any idea about the power supply? Im not sure if the Pc Power & Cooling 510 SLi is enough juice.

I'm on a gigabit network and even from room to room I don't max it out between 2 local machines. I had some amine playing while transferring large chunks of data (1GB+) across the network with no noticable issues. I don't know what the worry is about anyway. Would you use 2 LAN connections at once? I don't so I don't know if that makes any difference.

Anyone know how accurate UGURU is on tmeps for the quads???

Pretty accurate but it only reads the diode not the core temp.

Toying with the idea of getting a Q6600 but should I get a faster video card instead? My X1900 is getting rather old now. Thinking maybe new games won't play nice with it heh. My max res will be 1280x1024 though.

On topic: has anyone heard if using a 4pin power connector instead of 8pin causes issues? Thinking of recommending this board to someone, but they don't have a PSU with an 8pin EPS plug. Would it matter? I could tell them to buy a new PSu, but they would then have to buy a cheaper mobo.

how did you re-fasten the heatpipe to the board after doing the mod?...i hope not the original plastic push pins:shocked: that came on the board!?...that is what it looks like from your picture...i see white plastic tops to those pins...am i wrong?:)

you look like you have room for at least one 80mm fan...you can use 60mm if you like as long as they push some CFM's.

my system temp is around 30C...i think that sensor is close to the NB and maybe you do not have that firmly seated on the NB chipset...i also have a 70mm (taped to the board) sitting in front (between VC and NB heatsink) of the NB blowing air onto the NB heatsink...the only thing is that the VC is an 8800 GTS which gets damn warm, even on the backside...don't know if the that 70mm is much help taking very warm air coming off from the VC and blowing it onto NB heatsink.:shrug:
