just a heads up, the newegg nj warehouse is shipping E0 e8500's. i ordered one yesterday and got it this afternoon (the newegg nj warehouse and ups are in the same industrial park, and i live about 5-6 miles away in nyc so i get everything overnight).
S-Spec SLB9K
Batch # Q822A549
Pack Date - 08/06/08 malaysia
first boot at 9.5 x 460, vcore = 1.31v, priming now. didnt try any lower vcore, just fooling around. pics and ss later. decent chance you will get an E0 if you order soon.
You should be able to get 4.4ghz @ 1.32 and 4.5ghz @ 1.36v stable.
my first sub 10 superpi. now i can retire. with massive vcore and air cooling.

does 3d, and also played tf2 for a few hours. but no prime. i think one of my stix of g.skill ddr2 1000 is going bad.
yea, how do you figger?
My e8500 e0 is a q822a553 - shouldn't be that much different hopefully - thant's what i get on mine with a xigmatek hdt, link below:

nice chip. mine is q822a549, pack date 08/06/08. i got 2 more yesterday i am going to check out.
Anyone play with the retail E0 e8400's yet?
I am tempted to get that Fry's combo deal for $149 this weekend.
However, if they are mostly 4.2ghz and not 4.3 or 4.4ghz chips on mid 1.3v then wouldn't be worth it for me.
Well, don't be so sure.
My first E8600 was a Q820A596 and it struggled to get to 4.2 stable at 1.36v while my second is Q820A597 and it is at 4.4GHz at 1.36v.
Got in on the Fry's deal and got my E0 stepping 8400 yesterday. First shot 4Ghz at stock Vcore. (stock for this chipset, P965) Man these are nice :) Ignore CPU-Z Vcore, check abit Uguru. CPU-z always gets it wrong, with every cpu put into this motherboard.
http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/853...firstocqz5.jpg
I wonder how high I can take it with this QuadGT (P965) motherboard? I am pretty stunned. I expected a blue or freeze and just tried it for fun. Stock voltage? Wow.
Did you look at your cpu-z? Doesn't look like stock volts ;) Abit thingie might be wrong, after all :)
Set it to 1.25 manually in bios and see if still works at 4ghz ;) I don't know about Abit, but Asus sometimes overvolts everything when oc'ing with all settings on auto
Just set it to 1.25 user defined and still here :) CPU-Z changes my voltage every time I reboot. Its now reading 1.504 as opposed to 1.528 in the screen shot. For whatever reason with this motherboard it always does that. I stopped looking at that 15 months ago when I installed this motherboard.
Going to try for 4.1 Ghz on stock. :D (no deal froze up while loading OS) O well now for the hard part. Time to start ramping up and moving up to find my limits. I am sure the ram will crap out for me before this cpu does, but we shall see.

What's the voltage in bios, dnottis? do u think 1.35 is safe?
Hey Dnottis,
what NB setting are you using - 1.4v?
Intel says 1.36v is the most you want to pump through these 24/7, so I dont see why 1.35v wouldnt be fine, temps are ok. The board is pencil vdroop modded. Load line calibration is disabled, 1.375v is selected in bios. Voltage doesnt flucuate at all.
1.25v
Man these 45nm are sensitive. the first time I popped it up and ran 29 mins. Shut down Orthos, played some COD4. After I was done playing COD4 I started Orthos again, failed in 56 seconds. Now I know why I went back to my 65nm quad before.
Also, the P5K-E only detects the E0 chip correctly with Bios 1102. I've went back to 1013 and get an error on every boot that says "CPU unknown, please update your bios to unleash the full power of this CPU". I'm wondering if the stability issues are just cause by this bios.
I've gotten it stable again this time at 4418Mhz, 1.328v with my memory running full speed @ 1116 (I have DDR2 1100). It just passed an hour of Orthos. I'm gonna pull the chip later and check the IHS to see if its even level. I had a bunch of C0 E3110 and E8400s and do recall them being very sensitive where they were stable one moment then failed prime in a matter of seconds on the next run. Frustrating.
http://3dxtreme.net/other/E8500%20E0...418-1.328v.jpg
I think once you "burn in" your chip it should do better. That was some of the issue with the whole "degradation" thing, if I recall correctly.
After a while it took a small bump in vcore for the same settings to be stable then the chips seem to be fine.
I just got my new Rig E8400 with a p5q deluxe and some teamgroup mems i managed to get to 4000mhz like in the ps i did a 3dmark 2006 and after it finished it restarted my pc seems like its to much for the stock cooler or am i wrong? was going on 1.3vcore on the cpu..
http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/7033/4000yf7.th.jpg
My mems are default i didnt change anything because i pretty much dont really know there the 2x1GB Team Group Team Elite 6400
http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/205/memskp4.th.jpg
Any ideas?
43c idle is kinda toasty ;) btw thats a great chip you got thier Godmyster best to get a just as great cpu cooler on it asap & keep it !
teem group ran pretty good ram for the most part best to get low cas ram (4's) but if all yours will do is 5-5-5-5-15 them maybe rum em at 1t and work on a lower tfrc
I got 43º but with my stockcooler and at 1.3vcore can put more vcore and see if i can get more Mhz with this cooler?
Thanks ;)
have no dout your chip can do 4.5 probbly :) at around 1.4xx volts tho
but load temps are gonna rise fast past 1.3 volts 4.0 on a stock cooler is pretty darn good !
only way to know tho is to try and see what ya get
So its ok if i rise up the vcore more even thought i got stockcooler?
The journey from loading stock vcore on my E0 8400 @ 4ghz to 4.150Ghz has been interesting. I think first off my AB9 QuadGT (P965) is showing its age. I could sure use that half multi. To go 150mhz (4ghz-4.150ghz) I had to raise vcore from 1.25 to 1.35, VTT from stock to 1.40 and Mch from 1.35 to 1.60
Heat has been good but I think I am reaching my limits with this. Maybe if I upgraded to 1100 DDR2 I can take it higher, but increasingly I think a new MB with a newer chipset would be a good idea if I want higher.
Im not finding many high OC E0 results, alot of low volt 4000mhz runs. Not really sure if this is good or not, load temps were 60-61 on water.
http://3dxtreme.net/other/E8500%20E0...560-1.408v.jpg
Impressive Dnottis!!!
I wouldn't worry too much about idle temps with these chips. They've been proven to be all over the place.
Load temps are what's more important.
What are max safe voltages? Im getting E8600, and I had only 65nm until now (if I dont count 45nm on test (SS,...) Im looking for safe voltages under water for 24/7
Why is it that i lost Marks when i put the cpu @4.2mhz@1.35vcore im using stockcooler, i got a better score @3.6 with default vcore....
i Dont think so at least i didnt change anything on the mems
mine e8500 Q820A706 pack date 07/29/08 any ideas:)
CPU-Z reports wrong vcore on Abit QuadGT so:
4.1 Ghz
Vcore (at idle) 1.31
VTT: 1.40
Mch 1.55
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4...4100ghzhs6.jpg
I didn't do much testing at 4.2 Ghz but did some without issue at Vcore 1.33- I will test more tomorrow.
I was able to do this also but my memory craps out so its not stable.
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/2...extremegn7.jpg
With a newer chipset (this motherboard is from early 2007) and better mem I think I can easily do better. As it is I am impressed that the AB9 QuadGT does this well with it.
zodden, when i buy mine E8400 E0 i try 4300 MHz @ 1,288v. just for the first BOOT to try and it works... I was with C0 before this, who cant do 4GHz, even with 1,4v and was so happy :D Now i run this at 554x8 @ 1,46v. BIOS...
Crappy C0 here and crappy P5E Deluxe 0205 broken bios (detects either 33xxMB or 51xxMB of my 4gb of ram) was holding me back:
http://www.chemfy.fi/series/index.ph...n/&file=pi.jpg
Tests will continue in the upcoming weekend with this new Rampage Formula 0408 Bios, and colder air ;)
Oh, and the Batch was Q816A279 (not sure about the last 3 numbers).
EDIT: on 1.336 - 1.344v it posts at a max of 4504mhz, boots to windows at 4100mhz and is IntelBurnTest-stable at 4005mhz :(
Thats some good clocks! I can't go over 510 FSB on this motherboard with 2x1GB of mem. When I move to 2x2GB I can't go over 480 FSB.
Aren't you worried about 1.46V though for 24/7 use? I am struggling with 1.40V for 4.2 Ghz over 1.31V for 4.1 Ghz. The extra 100mhz is nice but the higher voltage worries me a little after reading much of this thread.
I love my E8400 that did yesterday 4.00ghz (not orthos stable but 4M was possible) and that today wont post at the same settings...
I have no clue what's going on... I changed all the settings of my mobo and i cant post at more than 410fsb on 9 multi, but 8*500 boots when I'm lucky...
Vcore: 1.35 and tried 1.4 too
VTT: 1.14
Vppl: 1.54
GTl's: Auto :x
Vnb: 1.26-1.3
Seriously - welcome to the world of 45nm. I have an E0 E8500 that is stable one second and not the next. Fighting to figure out why for the last couple of days. I can prime for hours, then reboot, try prime just for giggles and it fails within seconds and won't game any longer.
Exactly. I bought an E8500 CO that performed almost identical to my current E8400, same volts required and not stable beyond 4050 MHz. Extra half multi didn't help either way. My current "stable" setup passed Orthos blend, small fft, etc. and OCCT for several hours, then today I fire up the computer and I get a windows "The System Has Recovered From A Serious Error" message:rolleyes: Now I'm debating whether it would be worth it to get an E8600 to play with:(
Anyway to be able to tell the stepping, ie EO, just by looking at the box?
Thanks,
Utnorris
Look for SLB9J stepping code. I got mine in a smaller box too.

Well now that the degradation / burn in period is over I can finally get some reproducable stable results.
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/3411/img1016qa6.jpg
This is game stable and multiple 4 hour runs of Prime small FFTs. 4480 looks to be stable at the same settings, once I hit 500 though I'm gonna need more vcore it looks like.

primes 522x9 , 1.39v.
Nice scores! Have you tested with 1.36v core, at what frequency can work, or with 9 multi ? Anyway you got a good overclocker !
i can prime for about 30 minutes at 4700, 1.39v vcore. but it is good for anything else. i played 4 or 5 hours of tf2 at 4700. but temps with this cpu are around 5-10c higher than my e8500 c0, at the same vcore. i also had that problem with my e8600. so while i would have no problems running 1.50v vcore to try for 5ghz, my idle temps would be over 50c, load temps over 80c. so not going to do it.
ya thats a keeper ! get it under something cold and see what she can do :D
Hi! Inew @ this forum.
than my e8500,first day OCing.
good chip, but my TR SI-128SE not enougt for that.

works great and ya the way mine's hooked up thiers a little comdensation but some closed cell foam stuck to the cpu block & the 3 blue waterblocks on the unit and your safe
mine's ducted in to the house aircond.
is a vid of 1.2500 high for an E0 8400?
So guys, i need to know quickly wich one is better stepping for E8400, the C0 or E0 ? I am buying E8400 but i dont know which one to buy.
Btw i asked a local store about the 8400 and they sayed that it will cost ~ 160 euros, that pretty big amount compared to a web store where you can get a 8400 like 140 euros.
2Btw first message at Xtremesystems! sorry for my bad english:(
edit: I mean wich one is better for overclocking? my mobo is asus p5k and ram are 2x2gb g.skill 800 mhz
wow these results are amazin for the low volts! now we just need someon to sho some DICE or LN2 results.
heres were im at with my e3110 on air with a blue orb II

got my first 45nm, e8400 #Q819A133, anyone familiar? will post result soon:)
Pushed higher for 24/7 still. Not a bad chip, water cooled and lapped.

Sorry. Imageshack for now.
nice oc
im really liking this e3110 i picked up. 4.05 with less than 1.3 vcore.
What are the likelyhoods of getting a E0 E8500? I'm about to drop the cash for one right now.
I have a somewhat good feeling that either way, I'm gonna see clocks upwards of 4.3 no matter what stepping I get. For the hell of it, results should be Friday.
My E8400 does 4.05Ghz stable at 1.28V. Seems pretty good.... its on a GA-965P-DS3 rev3.3
Fry's
So guys is the E8500 E0 stepping kind of "rare" ?
A guy on ebay has 2 chips e0 e8500's for $185 shipped.
I might pick up one since at Fry's it still runs me over $200 with tax.
There was a rumor a while ago on OC Forums that clock for clock E0 might be slower than C0 steppings. I finally found a thorough review that shows when both processors are at the same MHz that there is virtually no difference in performance. Any slight difference favors E0. The only real difference is the E0 runs the same MHz at less voltage and when you start overclocking, the E0 has a lot more headroom.

Wow i got my E8500 E0 today and it went to 4.4 Ghz with standart voltages, it seems to be such "queen" (i love this E8500) today i OC ed this processor only to 4.6 Ghz @ 1.47 V and SP1M was 9.969 s with crap cas latencys..
batch?
You gotta have E0. I can't believe people are settling with 4ghz wolfdales. Even most e6850 cpu's did 4ghz stable on air or water.
Hello guys
Yesterday i've bought an E8500 E0 batch Q820A796
3.8ghz occt ok 1h a stock vcore (1.25v) . 4.2ghz no stable .
4.0@1.3 ok occt . 4.2ghz => reboot .
I need find good paramter on my P5Q deluxe i think .
