I'll keep watching as I have a DS3 with an ide cd drive on that Jmicron port, I have a couple of adapters that convert ide into sata one might work, Although one that I know the location of may not.Quote:

The only thing i am worried is about NB temp since i cant check it but should be ok right ? 450 fsb is not too much :D .
I think it's time that I changed my mobo... I think its obvious from reading around that E6600's dont clock well with P965 chipsets and this is only causing me more grief that it is worth, so in the near future I will be purchasing a new board. This time thorough research is going into it!
Just for clarification I don't think this motherboard is bad, I think the chipset is not best suited for E6600s (aka Conroes)
the chipset is quite fine with conroes. The thing about 6600's is that if you're intending on running 3.6, 400fsb would suit you quite well. However, if you're looking for more, you'd be much better off dropping the multiplier to 8x since you don't recall internal latencies from 400 until 466. What makes you say that p965's aren't suited for conroes? They have inherent cold boot oddities, which I've also seen in older p945's. Asus says it's because of special signaling required to get the southbridge powered while running higher fsb's.
People have said that e6300/6400 were best for p965 and not i975x not because p965's aren't suited for e6600's, but because p965's generall clock into higher fsb's than 975's. That said, e6600 and 975 has been a great combo because of the fact that 6600 has a high multiplier, and 400fsb is reasonably attainable on 975s, especially newer ones. Whereas, with a lower end c2d with a lower multiplier, you'd probably be hungry for more clock speed, and you'd end up getting fsb limited by the board.
WOW mine too..Quote:

totally agree, when the board was $150, ehh. came down ALOT, def worth the $$ now. keep us posted on your results, i had bad cpu batch when testing my latest boards, not 1 cpu was worth a fck. are you using the same 6300 that you're getting 515fsb on the asus with?...Quote:

Right now trying to get orthos stable at 3.5 Ghz, before 1.4 would yield me 1.35v - this board at 1.4 gives me about 1.32 so I needed to bump up a touch.Quote:

hey guys what do you think the chances of getting a revisions 3.3 from a etailer is now? I was gonna order from ncix up here in canada but im unsure as I really want th 3.3 revision. Its either the 3.3 gigabyte or the biostar mobo. Im not totally sold on the biostar yet and i have no idea if it supports 1333 fsb (something i want in a bit). So what do you guys think? Good chance of a 3.3 or should i go with the biostar? (does the biostar support 1333 fsb either)?
they should all be. Newegg sent me 2 x rev 3.3s this week. One an order and one an RMA for rev 1 that dies.Quote:

ok, guys I have a little bit of problem with my DS3 rev2, it reboots it self contentiously and it wont display anything when it stays on.
I don't know how am I going to flash a bios without any displays.
everything else is working, and do I have a dead motherboard?

wow 1100 with only 2.1v?
well jedec is 1.8 so +0.3v would be 2.1. You should use a dmm to verify or use speedfan to look at vcore2 (actually vdimm).
IIRC, rev2s shipped with f7 bios, so I'm guessing f4 might still be rev1? At least it sounds like it'd be c2 chipset.
Can't wait for the dfi infinity
I think shipped F4 is Rev1.0 but its C1 or C2? for find check it with CPU-Z 1.38 or higherQuote:

I have DS3 Rev1.0 C1 + 2x1GB Patriot 800LLK
I'm having problems booting since the beginning (DDR Volt already set to max) so I'm looking for new mobo.
What are the boards known for not having memory issues? DS3 Rev3.3 - is it finally fixed? DQ6 any different from DS3 in terms of memory issues? or maybe get Asus P5W-DH? OR Asus Commando?
Sorry but I saw many many Gigabyte 965 boards that cant boot with Patriot LLk at all! I personally test DQ6 rev1.0 C2 with your memory with All F3...F9 but no luckQuote:

I Talk Out this problem with my Friends in Patriot and they told that they will update JDEC for fix
but finally dont Try with Gigabyte again I think Commando is best choice for you ;)
i've built 8 systems with the ds3 and patriot 6400 LLK, none ever had a problem. rev 1 c1, c2 and rev 2 boards as well. set vdimm to +.4, which makes 2.2 vdimm, not max vdimm. probably frying the memory.
I just bought a DS3P rev3.3 to go with my E6600 and Crucial Ballistix D9's. I cannot get anything past stock cpu speeds. The CPU host clock control keeps disabling itself and I have NFI why. I have done all the usual disables in the bios EIST etc but nothing has helped. Memtested the ram, switched slots and nothing.
Upon hitting f10 to save sometime the pc will reboot twice then go into Windows and its still at stock speed or the pc will shut down, everything powers down, then after about two seconds it will power up again.
I'm hoping there will be a new bios release soon as I have no option but to stay with F4 atm.
I had an old PCI card here, chucked that in an BOOM, straight ot 3ghz!! So what does that mean? I have to get a different card? :nono:
Accoding to G/b's website there is only the current F4 bios for my mobo, can I use a different bios from another G/b mobo?
Thanks.
Another update and hopefully problem solved.
It was asked of me in another thread whether I had locked the PCI-E frequency or not, I had but it also disabled itself and I did not notice it.
I put it to 100mhz and still nothing, I went to 110mhz and it showed in the boot screen that it was at 3ghz!!but it still rebooted, beauty, I'm onto something here, I raised the PCI-E overvoltage control to +0.1v and BAM!! I'm in Windows at 3ghz. I scoured every dam forum today and not once did I see this mentioned about raising the PCI-E overvoltage control, unless I was blinded by my frustration.
So I hope this can help others.
So too anyone who is seeing the same problem, try this.
Well, we've been all the way up to F10 for awhile... :toast:Quote:

The other three slots will all let me boot all four sticks at 1000mhz.
I'm not even sure if that's grounds for RMA considering that the spec only goes as high as ddr2-800.
I just got a new beta bios for the DQ6, will work with Rev 1.0/2.0/3.3 etc.
Very early beta dated 13th Febuary 2007 so one can assume a later build exists by now.
No changes from what i can see, nothing except the copyright date within the Award bios, it now reads 2007. More observations to follow...hey!...at least GB will still support the DQ6 for awhile yet.
:)
Richard do you have a website as to where the new BETA bios's are released?
They were given with the instruction that the beta would not be released, it's extremely beta and could potentially cause more problem then solve.
Though right now i have my normal overclock settings in place, as seen in my sig.
Realtek HD audio codec, version 1.61:

Support for Vista and Win XP etc., check the file downloads for more.
I'm performing a new WinXP install on my DS3 to use my Raptors in RAID-0.
I downloaded the floppy driver from Gigabyte's website and it comes up fine during XP setup. But then I get a choice of two different chipsets, GBB363 and GBB360.
I have a DS3 Rev.1 C2. Which chipset should I choose?
I used the 2nd one on the list. I think it was one of the GBB363 options.Quote:

Gigabyte have update the FAQ for the DQ6 and what appears to be an EEPROM update for the onboard Marvell 8056 controller:
http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Support/...ue=Motherboard
Q. How do I solve the problem in the following situations?
1. System hangs up when installing Windows Vista.
2. RAID array fails.
3. If the Marvell LAN is disabled in OS, system becomes extremely slow when copying files or even hangs up.
A. Please follow the steps below:
1. Please make a bootable disk (you may build this disk under Windows XP and select "make this disk bootable" while formatting your floppy).
2. Please unzip the file downloaded from http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/FileList...ell_eeprom.zip into the bootable floppy you just made.
3. Use this floppy to boot you system and type "eep.bat" after the DOS prompt.
4. When this utility has done its work, please reboot your system.
I performed this update but i am not quite sure what is does?...i belive it's update the Marvell EEPROM and also the MAC address, as info during the update indicated this...can anyone confirm and offer further insight?, when Vista booted it detected a new Marvell controller...lists it as #2, so something got changed.
Xpress recovery 2 has been updated, March 7th 2007:
http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Support/...me=GA-965P-DQ6
Supports Vista now it seems.
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
F*CKING GIGABYTE!!
That EEPROM update screwed up Vista!, i had to activate my OS over the phone!, what the hell?
Obviously this update DID change something significant, if i needed to activate by phone. Online activation failed and i had to call MS, so i guess the MAC address did change and Vista flagged it and thought it was a pirated copy
Damn you GB, while don't you warn folks?
you should dump the bios and see if the sla rsdt is changed
I have to change my memory moudules to Corsair value 667 1x2GB
im using gigabyte DQ6 rev1 (F9).
so which bios is recommended?
965p-dq6 rev (1.0) 965p-ds4 rev (1.0) 965p-ds3 rev (1.0) will support official q6600 & q6400 & q6300 with new bios? for example 965p-dq6 rev (1.0) f10 or better bios...
my important question is :im waiting for new bios and now buying q6600! is it true?
im using gigabyte DQ6 (1.0) F9
DS3 REV1.0 cannot use F10 BIOS ???
More info on that EEPROM update:
http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardw...ict223751.html
http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-...der-vista.html
Which software i could use to regulate FAN speeds on the DS4 ? I got 2 x AKASA AC-FC-03 but its not enough to regulate all the AC Fans i got on the case (CM Stacker 831), SpeedFan doesn't support the DS4 sensor it seems.
Any ideas ?
But DS4 rev 1.0 supports fsb 1333 cpu or not???
You need Revision 3.3 PCB for true 1333FSB support. Unlike Asus, Gigabyte made modifications to the PCB (hardware) to attain 1333FSB, and they also update the bios.
That's very true but still not the end of the world for rev1/2 users. Starting with F9 (maybe F8 I can't remember), e0 conroes (1333) will post in the ds3. Just if it's not 3.3, it'll post at 266 and you'll manually have to up it to 333. Vs with pre F9 bioses, a 1333 cpu will not even post, until bsel is modded down to 266.

Any new bios since F10?
GA-965P-DQ6 (rev. 1.3)?
rev 1.0 rev 2.0 rev 3.3 ......and now: rev. 1.3
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...me=GA-965P-DQ6
Wow great job Gigabyte! The new @bios won't let me flash my S3 with the S3 bios! I just switched to test the F10 DS3 bios again, updated the @bios and now it won't let me switch back to the S3 F8 bios. Says Wrong part number(award)! and stops. It used to give that warning put would give you the option to continue flashing.
In regards Revision 1.3, i assume it's an updated PCB version for the original Revision 1.0 PCB.
If you see the image it has the same orientation on the IDE connector, so we might also see Rev 2.3 etc.
Since we already have Rev 3.3 i don't think we'll see a Rev 3.33 will we?
:-)
Man, why even bring out a Rev 1.3?...i'd assume they would just stop selling/making Rev 2.0/1.0 and just sell Rev 3.3?...unless a Rev 1.3 PCB was made and came out after the initial release of the DQ6 Rev 1.0, does anyone have this PCB?
i got a rev 3.3.. want it? the manufactorer is makin sure u get 3.3 only not old stock. www.clubit.com if u want one..thats where i got mine
here's max bench on f8i. plan to see if any better/worse with f10
My two 1GB Patriot 800LLK sticks are fried :(
Bought two cheap 667 512MB sticks a week ago, running them with default voltage and memtest throws errors (windows does pretty good job dealing with this, it does suddenly reboot PC only when I run something mem-hungry like Battlefield)
So I set those 667 sticks to run at 533, Single channel mode, CPU not overclocked, still getting memtest errors. boosting volt to +1 or +2 doesn't help. WTF is going on with this board?!?
DS3 rev1 F10
AMAZING!...Realtek have released yet ANOTHER driver, version 1.63...just four days after the last!
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Realtek does that. They have been doing like weekly driver updates for years. I'm not sure what the deal is with that. Their audio drivers certainly suck though, nevertheless.
lol. true. But if you expect Realtek's DS3D/EAX support to work right, prepare for disappointment.
So when exactly are we getting new BIOSes? It must be well over 2 months since we've had anything new....
Are there still issues with the DS3/S3's and D9? I'm about to get some D9's for my S3 Rev1 C1 but wanna make sure the issues have been fixed before doing so.
bump
K I'm gonna get some firestix. Price is too good ($163.99.) Finally replacing this absolute POS psu (Coolermaster 430W 19A 12v) My 12v rail drops below 11.6v under load!
F8 S3 bios has been the most stable for me. The F10 DS3 (same thing) gives me a load of problems. Failed OC = need to clear cmos.
My oc has been limited by my junk ram and psu, hopefully will be able to do 4ghz with some D9 and a better psu... I've got the CPU and cooling for it (L628 B2 E6400.)
I recently updated to 4 x 1 GB GeiL 6400 DDR2 800MHz RAM and ditched my BFG 7900 GT for a sexy ATI X1950XT-X. Lovely jubbly.
However, I had to pop out and purchase an Intel Pro 1000 GT NIC to replace my onboard NIC - which has decided to remove itself from my BIOS. The option to Enable/Disable is gone - it does not mention LAN at all now.
Madness.
Bingo...any new beta for the DQ6?
ok, second posts on the board and first problem:
I clocked my E6600 to 3600mhz and I have only this problem: when I power on the pc, it starts normally but under Windows (Vista or XP is the same) only one core is working...after a simple reboot also the second core works.
Using lower cpu clock doesn't give this problem.
Higher vcore, and other system voltages, doesn't seem matter for my "cold boot handicap".
Any suggestions will be very apprecieted :)
thanks anybody
Beta bios for the DS3:
http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList...5pds3_f11a.exe
I belive it works with Revision 1.0, 2.0, 3.3...Riv, the beta i have for the DQ6 is not for distribution...unless i hear otherwise. If i get permission i'll up it to Rapidshare.
Dumb question guys. After switching over to f10 bios everthing was great no more cold boot issues. However, just ran cpu-z 1.39 and noticed that the command rate was 2T instead of my preferred 1T. Then i went back into the bios (control F1) and didn't find the command rate option anymore. How do you set it to 1T?
