You guys think a D-Tek WhiteWater would be enough to keep this cool with a decent overclock, with a good pump and rad????
Just bought an Asus 3850 and OCZ Reaper HPC 1066 ram. If i run it at 1066, my system hangs after login. I am not a timing guy and have no idea what to set manually in the bios on my K9A2 Platinum. If I set it to auto, it runs at 667mhz. And the system runs great. My CPU score dropped almost 700 points14000 on 3dmark06 but the ram is slowwww. CPU is 2.9ghz 2000 NB. Any help would be great..:D
I've had the same problems with my Reapers on the K9A2 Charged. I'm no expert at ram timings either, but I have messed with them without any success. :(
At the very least you should be able to set them to the 1:2 (800) setting without any problems, that will get you back in the ballpark. :)
If your familiar with the 1.1B3 Bios and P-States you should be able to lower your NB/IMC multi to ~8 (HT Multi to 7) and clock your HT Ref up to 266 and get the ram up to 1066 speeds...
The 1.4 Bios is actually VERY stable, but I doubt you would be able to hit HT/266 due to the fact that your locked into 10x NB. Most 9850's won't handle a 2660 NB/IMC.. ;)
Heres a ss of what I've been using for the last week and it has proven to be VERY stable with the Ram at 1076. :D

More than enuff for a single loop for CPU....If you need to cool a high end card too then even consider a second loop set up..Small pump and a double for the GPU:D
My two BIXIII's /86cfm fans and Dtek Keep my 9600BE @ 1.23volts 2.58mhz with 15c idle and 21c 4cores loaded.....Believe it or not My X2 @3.5ghz cooks compared to it @ 24c Idle and 41c Loaded under the same cooling with 1.6volts:D
A good tripple with medium fans or even a Top line Double will cool it using Dteks WB. The Q series below is good bang for the buck and should easily allow 3.2/3.3 on a 9850 and still be way cool for more @ 1.3v-1.4volts

120.2 ThemoChill out performs most medium Tripple Rads using low/medeium flow fans..the Fins are wider apart for optimum air flow and huge surface area for cooling...Its Big brother the 120.3 is still the king of all Rads.

Sweet, now I need to convince the wife if I dont get a pump and rad, my CPU will explode, causeing the very fabric of spacetime to rip, causing all sorts of disasters, and creatures to appear.......heh
I am hopeing to find a 90mm (I think thats standard case/CPU fan size) rad, as my fan push's enough air to cool a small city...... :D
Right now it's bringing air in the back of my case, then kind of ducted to the TRUE, the TRUE has the old 120mm fan I ripped from Kids Antec 480 watt PSU, and in it's place is the 120mm Delta from hell.....

Well, I have the timings figured out.. I also did not have to do any HTT changes. It is all multi. I found a problem with AOD's Default config file. I modified it and the system is stayble. I lost my 2200mhz NB but I will fiddle with that later. I now need to to see if I can get AOD to allow me to get my over clock back up.
Edit... 2200mhz NB back up. Now awaiting the 750 SB boards to roll out and see if I can squeek more out of this chip. Here is my new 3DMark06 score
I still read the thread guys, just really busy as usual but I have not given up on AMD, NO WAY ;)
Went over to DFI, they have a nice 790GX board on show, it is DK though but is fully featured. I asked Jarry if they could increase the VRM to 6 phase and the Ram VRM to 2 phase to help with 8GB 1066, he said he would look into it but would not promise, the board already works quite well and I have been promised a sample to promote and test...stay tuned ;)
Overall wandering round all the motherboard vendors stands there does look to be a slew of nice GX boards coming real soon, remember this chipset should allow some higher phenom OC's so the task will start all over again with them.
so far the most i can achieve is 2.9GHZ, 14.5x200, 1066 unganged, 2x2GB dual channel with ~1.34Vcore, dfi m2r. i do need to get some cooling on the PWM, as it approaches ~70c, and on the chipset (aproaches ~60-65c), but doubt that is hindering the overclock to 3ghz.
ive also noticed that after numerous attempts of pushing up and locking up, the board remembers some bad settings of trying to push up, and i must ezclear it and or reflash to clear, in order to be restable at 2.9GHZ (ive only tested occt mixed 2 hours which passes ok; ill go for more once i complete testing).
i will now try to lower multi, and up the HTT, to see if i can get past 2.9. then i will try async multi clocking to see which core(s) are holding me back.
this thing cooks for sure, even on pretty good water, when approaching the 1.35Vcore mark.
i wanted 3GHZ sync, but that's not happening. ah well. the 3GHZ has been evading me since A64! at least i moved on to am2+, and i can pop in a 45nm once that's available and in good standing.
I can get over 2.9 but only if i set cores independently. I have to keep 2 cores @ 2.9. I had 3.3 core 0 & 1, with cores 2 & 3 @ 2.9 1.43v. I am curious about this new SB 750. If those boards do infact work better, I might have to upgrade. Now on another note... I have been able to hit 2.7 stock voltage on the 9600 on the Saphire 780g board. I had to have a good voltage bumb to hit 2.7 on the 9600 on the MSI. I am going to try higher today on the 9600.
2.9 seem to be the wall on air regardless of voltage settings in 64bit OS's and 3.1 on air in 32 bit Os's. this is on avg. from what i have noticed and aslo on my own system.
well I decided to try a different approach to my OCing. I was going to post a CPU-z screenshot, but Ipowerweb's hosting is down,hech, their whole web site is down. So anyways,...I went into bios and jumped from 200 to 239HTT. I gave er' 1.37v which landed me at 2.988ghz. This isn't anything exciting, but it also has a 2390mhz NB and 2390mhz HTT. And she apears to run. I am going to try a run of 3dmark06 and a lil prime just to see how see does. I was then going to try the 9850 on the Sapphire 780g board since it, as of now, has the 9600 running 2.8. Something about that board.. I need to count the FETs and see what it has in Power.. I might check the web and see if I can find out as well. The board has Tall heatsinks on everything. And runs cool. I through a 3850 and Hibrid X-fire'd the thing.
Edit: It appears it is 3 phase. Don't think I will stick the Phenom 9850 on it yet. I will search the web and see if I can verify.
i have one of those boards from asus with 780 chip m3a h-hdmi, its the only one with additional VRM but the oc is just impossible, the boards are just created for cheap builds . my 9850be does 2800 on msi k9a2 plat and 3200 for my 5000be by changing only multi with default vcore daily use. On the asus i am not able to increase the 9850 at all and the 5000be can only hit 3000.
i'll sell the asus for sure and get me a dfi 790gx, same for my 790 when sb750 is alive.
I'm getting close to the 1ghz barrier on my 9600. I posted the pic in the M3A32-MVP thread, but I think it'll get more views here.

Memory isn't stable at all. 3DM06 locks up about 500 frames into test 1, Blend just restarts the computer at that setting. I'm doing 11.5x262 overnight blend to work my way up to 3.1ghz stable. I need 287htt to get a full 1ghz oc, this board definitely won't do it cause the system doesn't boot at these htt settings unless the 800mhz divider is set. I think 800mhz for a locked multi phenom is pretty good though.
Abit boards I had time on;
AN78GS was the best overclocking motherboard with the Nvidia chipset. It reached a significantly higher HT speed. 11,200 stock 2K1, 12,500 overclocked to 3Ghz, this mobo also reached 3.25Ghz on an 9850BE.
AS78H was the highest performing onboard graphics 12,300 stock 2K1 and 13,200 overclocked to 2.88Ghz
AX78 alreached 240HT speeds and maxed out the 9750 phenom at 2.88Ghz, lacking onboard graphics I used an 8800Ultra and scored 34K on 2K1 with lod 0, this board was the poorest performer of the bunch.
All boards above should not be "game" nor was graphics "smooth" if fact, horrid stuttering with an 8800 Ultra surprised me. Granted these are budget boards but surely not acceptable for "smooth" gaming.
If you consider very low FPS (cpu overclocked 480Mhz+) in high detail scenes smoother then ok, you win. I can now remember the last time I seen single digit FPS from an 8800 Ultra in 2k1.
I tried LN2 on a few cores, none would go sub zero. Please be aware if the chipsets/models used, they are not the top end.
