As NB and SB are larger and easier for you to see with the naked eye you should be alble to get good contact as you put your HS on. I used Artic Alumina epoxy on the SB heatsink and placed it back on. It does not get too hot anyway. I used Ceraminque on NB-Don't use too much. Just a thin layer is all you are looking for.
The PWMs are harder to tell. you may only be able to tell after you fire it up. They are too small to see imo unless you have eagle eyes as to how good your contact is. I again used artic alumina adhesive on those and BGA ramsinks from Swiftech. Temps in the 40s now-When I first tried the temps went up to 125c but that was using the thermal pad.
The rule with Ceraminque is like with AS5-thin layer.
For the Abit QuadGT, which bios is the reccomended one for overclocking now?
Got my rma'd board tonight. All stable at 470fsb 1.55v mch, 1.34 vcore. Also note the pwm temps. Will see what max fsb is over the weekend.....got some gaming to do.

i have 4GB an can't past over 334 fsb ( 9x334 i have a E6600 )

The top plate is slightly bowed to promote pressure on the middle PWM's.
I think PWM #2 may have too much thermal paste on it. Pretty happy with these temps, the difference they have made to CPU temps aswell is amazing.
Running this crappy Thermaltake HSF running at about 30% speed has 1 of the 4 cores at 47degrees (coretemp) and the rest on 50 :up:
However ever since I have modded the PWM heatsink they make a noticeable buzzing sound now. Tomorrow I'll remount it with considerably less thermal paste and see if I can trace the buzzing.
i like what you did but i would think that the top plate is not needed...i would be inclined to stay with the just having the bottom bolts holding it firmly over the 5 power modules....that way you would have more airflow over heatsink...the top plate looks to be partially blocking the air moving over the heatsink...
i would put the plate underneath the mobo instead to keep it from flexing too much.
Ace: Yeah thats true, but even contact over all PWM's is more important to me than airflow, as thats where I've had the most trouble.

I must add, this board so f*cking pedantic with system lockups, resets, BIOS saves etc. Im getting sick of clearing CMOS.
i have a Q6600 on my board and currently at 380 FSB with no problems...usually lockups are voltage related, not enough.
as to PWM cooling, i have a 40mm fan strapped to the heatsink for cooling...i would like to do what you did plus the fan but that means yanking the whole board out...i'm not excited about that one!:)
40mm is a good size, I use a 70mm fan and it's too big.
Yeah Having it out of case is certainly helpful.
The buzzing from teh PWM's is very bad now at high load... It's hard to source where the buzzing is coming from exactly, but its definitely not the CPU fan and it appears to be the PWM's.
Maybe there is too much pressure? There definitely isn't too much heat.
It's not instable at all so tomorrow I'll remove the top plate, go easy on tightening it down and use next to no Thermal Paste.
What is the reccomended overclockers bios for this motherboard, and where is it found? The Asus-Usa website only lists the 1.0 bios, no other choices....
oh well.....I don't understand it. I am 8hr orthos stable @ 470fsb 1.34 vcore | 1.55 mch | 4-4-4-10 2.15v but try all mobo votages maxed and even drop cpu multi to 6x and won't boot at 480fsb. Glad my P5K Deluxe is arriving Tuesday.....I'm done with this board.......
Borgod, you just gave me an ideea: that piece of metal under the PWM... aaaaaaaaaaaaand, two paralel pieces under the CPU. That should work nicely. :D
Yep I just wrapped a couple of layers of electricians tape around the plate to insulate it.
This motherboard is a joke.
PWM/temps etc I have no problem with.
Its the BIOS not saving, or locking up when I want to save it.
It when it doesnt boot up properly.
Its the onboard reset/power on buttons not working.
Its when it doesnt turn on when I want to.
Its that I have to clear CMOS with jumper, switch, PSU disconnect etc every time the PC locks up or doesn't boot properly.
All of these problems where here before I touched my PWM heatsink, but I am even more fustrated with it the more I reset/save BIOS etc.
So, the consensus here is that the PWM (mos-fets?) run super hot? I certainly don't want any noisy little fan blowing air across a mobo heatsink.
I've narrowed it down to P5B Deluxe, DFI P965 or this..
Are there any Corsair 1066 dominator problems with this board?
No they don't run super hot, but because I wanted to watercool my Northbridge I had to modify the heatpipe, and thought I would try and cool the PWM's down moreso.
Get the P5B Dx

Could you do me a favour and measure the height of the tall capacitors running along the top of the board from CPU to RAM slots?
This is important to me, as I have clearance issues with my radiator.
