I'm preparing to drop this board for my bench rig. It simply won't hit high enough bclk for me to reach 5GHz. I tried this chip in my friends classified and hit 5GHz with ease with less cold. Time to join the classified bandwagon I suppose.

Then this would be VERY strange if true. Earlier this evening when I first installed the board, It was reading 21x...now it will not.
It's not W7 x64 because I've been using it since build 7000 on my R2E and NEVER had this problem....
I have a lot of reading to do about this board...I cannot OC it at all at the moment...any attempts and the board will not POST.
My first impressions of this board aren't very good.

eva nice clocks
just for info
another forumer from lyn bought my kingston hypers with his dfi ut latos is it
for him to run 2000mhz Cl8 on his 920 d0
so far he needs vdimm 1.65v vtt 1.5
thats 0.1v more on vdimm and vtt compared when the ram was running with my cpu.
Thanks Kavin, yeah cpu could determine what voltages memory needs, so far 2x i7 920 c0 and 1x i7 920 d0 all require me to have 1.65v vdimm for GT at 2000mhz 7-8-7-20.
Guys just remembered one thing, for my Win7 setup in bios power management I have HPET support enabled and set at 64bit. Not sure if it that is what is allowing me 21x Turbo without problems. Worth a try :)
yeah true
but really interesting part was
i always thought that different procs was vtt dependent
but now vdimm also??
and this is another weird part
all the 2k c8 hypers i have tested has one thing in common
the 2kC8,1866C7,1600 C6 vdimm is the same.
He has no problem with 1866C7 and 1600C6 at 1.56set like on my proc
but his 2k C8 needs 1.65v set.
also this changes my opinion on higher vcore procs usually needs higher vtt.
like ures doesnt ..
looks like the 2k rams .. seriously up to luck on procs..since i had a few procs
latency is not the issue but the ram speed and vtt required is.
but one thing my proc is very vtt sensitive. a slight overvolt everythings goes out of the window.
not surprising cpu vtt and vdimm are cpu dependent, since cpu vtt drives uncore frequency/and memory related stuff on processor :)
Haven't tried 6GB samsung hcf0/micron modules but i suspect same can be said for all DDR3-1866+ and higher rated modules - you'd be somewhat at mercy of the cpu mem controller, board and board bios etc.
I'm near done with my build now and ready to boot 'her up. What bios would you recommend as a starting point for an Xeon and 6GB of Corsair GT's? Keep in mind that this will be my first experience with this board and i7 as a whole.
start with 2/17 or 2/27 and if you have problems clocking GT memory, try 4/28 beta or 05/08 (some folks aren't having much luck with D0 cpus and 4/28 and 05/08 betas though).
might start sounding like a broken record, but threads worth reading

Try 4/28 if you have a DO. The 05/08 didn't work well with my Kingstons.
5GHz with this board finally achieved but not stable.

Hm.. my board refuses to POST with memory in any of the yellow slots. One, two or three sticks, doesn't matter. Works fine with all the green slots populated. Now I just to the rig together so I have not updated the bios yet, but is this normal? Memory voltage is set at 1.65v.
yup normal read tip #29 http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html ;)
Thanks eva! I promise I'll take the time to read your threads before I ask any more silly questions :D
I'm having an incredibly stupid issue that I can't find the cause of. I've been trying to fix it for over 6 hours now and I've pretty much given up.
Windows will only boot if the Vista DVD is present in the DVD drive and the DVD drive is chosen as first boot device. It will ask me to "press any key to boot from disk", but I just let the timer run out and it will boot normally. If I take out the Vista disc the system will halt after "Saving CMOS". The same thing happens if I set "hard disk" to first boot device in the bios. I've reinstalled Vista twice with different raid drivers but nothing helps. It really looks like the board is trying to boot off the DVD drive no matter what I do. I have a raid setup with two drives in raid 0. The DVDRW is connected to the IDE port on the motherboard. I have tried disabling the IDE controller too, but that made no difference. Is there something stupid I've missed here? I've never seen this problem for all the years I've had raid running on, and that's a long freaking time!
Found the problem... turns out Vista has installed the boot files on the HDD's located on the Jmicron controller. These show up as IDE drives, so I guess in all it's wisdom Vista thought it would be better to place them there. Bloody stupid!
Edit: is it actually possible to boot from a raid array on this board at all?! I've taken out every single drive except two 320GB drives that run in RAID0 from port 0 and 1. These are bootable according to the Intel matrix raid manager, but Vista will NOT boot no matter what I do. I've done 5 Vista installs now! DVDRW runs in IDE mode from the Jmicron controller. I tried IDE + RAID, but Vista didn't even want to install with that option checked.
Edit 2: Finally! I nailed it. I set the Jmicron controller to IDE mode, only the two raid0 drives in, and then I rebuilt the raid in the Intel matrix CP. This time the Vista setup picked up the Intel raid drivers on my USB stick and things worked after that. This is seriously the most painful Windows installation I've ever been through! :P
An early result for my OCing:

I haven't done anything with the memory yet and I haven't found a max stable on the CPU either. I've got some work to do :)
These are the settings I boot with then use setfsb to clock further. This is an open test bed with active airflow over nb chipset.

Good lookin out. That is about what I used except your pcie is set to 114 as mine was 110 and you have your ich 1.5 voltage set to 1.7v where I left mine at 1.5v. which might be my problem.
What cooling you using?
single stage phase -54c idle -45'c load.
