Hey Cyber, my chip is far from Golden, but it does way better than yours... Chips are always a crap shoot reguardless of the manufacturer, OC potential is never guaranteed... :p:

I know this guy who works at the local MicroCenter (Dan)... He's pretty cool actually, but he turned to the dark side when Core2 came out. I guess I really can't blame him, Phenom 1's were pretty weak....

But I went there on Saturday and he was telling me about his dissapointment with PhII. I'll be the first to admit the X4 940 is probably no match for Core I7. But in all reality I'm pretty happy with my "Deuce 940"... ;)
I really wish some of these Intel Fanboys could sit down with a Phenom system and test it for themselves...

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this (Kinda Buzzed).... I'm happy with this chip though, even though it's not a monster it does quite well, and it was a cheap upgrade!!

My PhII 940, does what I want it to do, and does it quite well!! :D

Crapshoot it is. Still, it sucks. :p: Although when I turned my HSF around and got 3.6GHz stable a while back, I was also able to reduce VCORE. So 1.48v is it. I'm on par with highoctane now I think. So I guess I can't claim worst 940. :p:

I do get a hell of a droop though, I saw my VCORE dip all the way down to 1.45 at load. I'd love to test my CPU in another board just to see if it changes anything. Can't do that without spending money though. I dunno if my mobo has a voltage regulation problem or what. I read VCORE droop causes a lot of BSOD, which is the problem I get. Hmmm, those Asus boards look nice...

EDIT: I noticed an audible buzzing when running games...

I really wish these AMD Fanbois could sit down wiht any Intel CPU (ie 5200, 7300, 8600...etc.) and test it for themselves.
Just drop it in.. enter Bios.. change FSB from eg 200->333.. (nothing else).. as a start.. and then star OC'ing.

Please, please.. discuss PhII overclocks.. show screenies.. and STFU about Intel/Intel OC'ing when you doesn't have a clue. :down:

I am here to compare my results for my two rigs wiht PHII, not to hear crap about Intel rigs/hw from religious people.
(Some of then whine a lot about their results too.. YMMW.. heard of that?).

I really don't see your point as he's not discussing C2 OC or anything like that. He also clearly said PhII is not as good as i7. The only thing I see is a wish for some Intel guys who has never tried an AMD system to give it a try. Nothing more. Don't see your problem.

To not derail the thread: I look forward to see some more OCs. I'm a bit disappointed about PhII OC-ability but that's because I probably hoped for too much. (6,5GHz is still very impressive though :)) I'll be waiting until fall before I make my decision.

Also; haven't seen any chips later than 0850 right?

Ive just read a article at AT saying they couldnt get over 4Ghz. I also noticed that their NB clock is still at stock. Does anyone here have issues getting over 4Ghz? Did or didnt you try to raise NB?

Or if you're running 4Ghz+, try to drop NB to stock, will it become instable? Preferably test under Vista 64:up:

That's the point mate, if any of them actually tried a PII system they'd be unable to tell the difference. I've seen countless guru's "fooled" by an AMD rig....nevermind PII's. Your last sentence is most relevant though...."a cheap upgrade". Lets see the i7 wannabee-boys swap out a Q6600 or Q9450 for an i7 :p:

Comparing the two doesn't always have to be arguments either. With some guys it does but that's really a refelction of their intelligence, nothing more.

on another note...any of you guys tried FRITZ chess bench with your PII's? It'd be interesting to see the results there.

I noticed that on my M3A79-T, if I set 1.4 vcore in BIOS, all of the temp and sensor programs read .03 more vcore (which puts it at 1.4375V) than BIOS when I am stressing the CPU. Is anyone else seeing this happen with their PII and M3A79-T or am I missing something? This is the total opposite of V Droop.

Hmm seems weird. Can't test it myself yet as I'm still waiting for my 940 but you may well have discovered a new PHENOMinon :rofl:

You should term it as V-rise or somethin' while your still the first to report it :)

Many boards overvolt when a "hungry" quad core cpu is plugged. I had overvolt with my old cpu(9850BE) and I had with this. It's not something normal, but not so important for the OC, you only set lower vcore values and have no problems with that.

You've never seen overvolt? In bulgarian we say it "overvolt", I think it should come from English. :)

Sometimes the mobos take control in their "hands" and rise the voltages a bit. Mine overvolts around 0.03-4V too, but not under load. Even in bios. :) This could be wrong reading of the default cpu vcore, but in most cases it's because of the mosfets.

The M4A79 Deluxe has non. No over/under Volt, No ripple.
That reminds me i better back up the OCCT results as im pulling the mobo right this instant..

Do you have a Phenom 2 if you do then post your results.......this is "the Phenom II list of overclocks database".......not a place to compare Intel with AMD......theres plenty other threads to do that.

I did, but my results are difficult or perhaps not of interest for those (like you) mostly interested in arguing, calling posters "Intel fanbois"..etc..

And I honestly cannot see who is the "guilty" part of "comparing" Intel vs. AMD or if this is "wrong".

I did not "trigger" or bothered about comments (not allowed though.. see above) about which platform/CPU that is "better" (number/bench-wise).
I "triggered" on the prejudgment against someone supposedly not wiiling to try a certain CPU brand, when it (for me) is more clear who's not willing to try a certain CPU brand.
As long as you are honest like:
"I hate Intel.. only AMD allowed in my rig".
"I hate AMD.. only Intel allowd in my rig"
It is fine with me.
But don't presume someone else has the same attitude just because he/she does not agree with all the arguments in your post.

I am so far very pleased with my two Phenom's.
They even have their own "Intel free" room. :D

Try to increase your NB speed to 2Ghz and see if it's stable then?

Im trying to find out whether Im right about the NB => 0.5xCPU speed. It worked for me, but that's just one result, I'd like to know about others.

Same here, I think the M3A79 is overvolting for some reason, and I think thats why I have some issues trying to run OCCT.

These are my 24/7 settings. I have never been able to get 3.8 stable?? It hates anything above the 18.5 multi. I havent had time to mess with memory/HT speeds yet though

Nope, my reading skills are just fine I think. My interpretation of his post was this: Core 2 was better than Phenom I. Core i7 is better than all other current CPUs. PhII is good. People judging PhII before trying it are maybe not the one's that should be doing the yelling.

Then you're response was quite aggressive and said that comparing CPUs is not what the thread was about and that OCing a C2 was easy as hell. Sure, you were right in both claims, the thread is about PhII OC and OCing a C2 is easy as hell. But nothing he said contradicts that nor does it imply a comparison between platforms. So if you just chill down a bit we'll all be happy :)

BTW; Are you TL1000S on sporthoj.com as well?

To Massman: Looks like a good chip if you're on air!
