I read through this entire post, and thanks to Zodden and Rajada's info on page 4, I'm currently running Prime 95 at 8.5x500 on my E8500 at 1.375v. I'm no super experienced overclocker, and their settings have given me a great place to start.

I have one question. What is the benefit of running a higher FSB with a lower CPU multi vs a higher multi and lower FSB? I see most people doing the former, but haven't really found an explanation as to why. Is it to be able to run the RAM at a faster speed?

that's nice of you to say that. i didn't think your ram was bad but i used to have similar problem that i could not boot a board that i configured it to run ddr1200 and i recalled trying about the same things that i told you to try before. i think it's okay to use 2.3v vdimm on the HyperX PC9600 kit when you're using it for ddr1200, i also use 2.3v for a long time on a few different boards,
on this UD3R i find it that i can use the ram kit at ddr1200 with below 2.1v, however, i still like to keep the vdimm at not below 2.2v. but i'm sure each board and each ram kit is different, only the user knows best on how to use their own hardware.
anyway, i’m glad you didn’t give up on the overclock and then you got what you wanted.

what is the best overclocking bios for the UD3R?

I read that some guys could run tRD8 with FSB 500 RAM 1000 (1:1) CAS4 but I could´t get that to work but then I noticed that I could run 1:1 with two different latch (strap), 333 or 400.

With 400 I could run one step lower then with 333, hence slightly better performance, it´s awesome to get that low tRD at that FSB with 1:1.


I think this is very interesting, so I thought that I dedicate a post with this even thou it isn´t new for some but for some maybe it´s.

have ep45-ud3p a Trusted Platform Module?

for you guys that have gotten over 400 fsb what voltage did you use one your MCH or IC? I cant seem to boot (using 6 multi) at anything above 390 not even with 1.4 MCH all else stock.

I used 1.54 MCHv for 515FSB with a 7 multi and about 1.46v (i think) for 500FSB.

Got the second board today and have the same exact problem, MCH Core above 1.48v = no boot, black screen or boop loop trying to recover.

All I can think of is the weak PSU 520w not enough for it.

So strange. :shrug:

nvm, how could I've been so stupid to leave pci freq on auto.

Well i'v run 1.6v and its booted fine.

PS I have a TT Toughpower Qfan 750watt :D.

@fatguy, thanks i will do some more testing later on, right now i have 356x9 with stock 1.1 MCH and well my vcore is 1.44 underload(bad chip:( ). When you guys use a low multiplier and a high FSB is that done to Oc the Ram and run the rest of the system at higher speeds or is it just better to use highest FSB and low multi.

I will test on a Silverstone 1000W today and settle this strange matter.

Now I also noticed that raisin vcore voltage in ET6 will cause it to reset to default voltage, so I can't even raise any voltages from ET6 anymore.

I have mine set @ 105, but when I bench 3D I raise it quite a bit.

It shouldn´t be a problem to leave it at auto, auto sets it to 100, if you want to be on the safe side set it to 100.

Ok heres what I discovered so far:

Dunno how I'm the only one with this issue but I tried the 1000W PSU and same problem happened.

So I played around BIOS and discovered that the combination of RAM Straps and MCH Core causes the issue (no boot or beeps or blank screen).

If I load Original Default and raise MCH Core alone i will hault above 1.440v.

If I change the Ram strap other the the one set on Auto it will work fine.

With other straps the MCH Core can be raised everywhere I want.

Nobody had this? :shrug: Is that a specific problem with my type of Ram hardware?

Stole me a UD3P yesterday (it was that cheap) played 2~3 hours with it & my Q9650 and the best fsb I could manage was 549mhz. The board makes fsb super easy & is very very stable indeed. I'm loving the way the board will always boot when you've messed a setting up & allow you to try something else without a full CMOS/BIOS clear.

I've been playing about for a couple hours tonight & although I don't think I have a Prime blend stable 500 x 9 Q9560 I'm doing alright. On the shipped F4 BIOS I have my Q9650 running 500 x 8.5 on 1.35v, 1.40v NB & my OCZ 8500 SLI's @ DDR1000 1.80v so I'm quite happy.

I'm having an annoying MCH Core/Mem Strap errors that where keeping me to test my setup further.

And I know how picky you are on stability so I would greatly appreciate your input.

I posted 4350mhz a few pages back with all my settings which could give you a good start. 4400mhz is all I can call/claim I have got truly stable although 4450~4500 is perfectly stable for everything other than prime/orthos/IBT etc.

I have/did notice something divider/strap dependent I think it was performance level getting set to tight or something like that which stumped me for a minute but other than that I've easily pumped 1.75~1.8v through my NB no problem.

Right now I can get my CPU to run a loop of prime small & then fail large or the other way around depending on how I set up the board for 500 x 9. I am real busy in Jan 09 so wont really get to play with the UD3P until the end of the month & then I think I'll pop the board under my SS & see if that helps.

All in all though the UD3P is an awesome board.

MCH voltage = North Bridge Voltage, just a different terminology on this board.

Depending on how much MB of Ram you have in your board and how much your overclocking the cpu.

Everything till 1.6vmch for this chipset is a piece of cake.

The MCH volt is the volt for the North bridge. U have to rasie it when you increase FSB, increase RAM speed and/or add more ram sticks. I asked about a week ago what was a safe mch volt and I was told that 1.6v was the max. I normally run 1.3v atm, cause thats all i need.

I think I may have had that issue to, I can remember a few times when it didn't post and I change the strap and it worked fine :shrug:.
