I can recommend you to take a closer look on the Xeons ( in your case w3520 = i920 )... they costs nearly the same ... only a difference of a few bucks... but totally woth it.

My first i920 ( which was also the poorest ) needed 1,42V for 4GHz ... this was much to warm to run 24/7 ... specially in these warm days... my room got 32°C ambient-temp...

i water cool the board, nb/sb around 40 degrees under the koolance block with the optional VTT block and mofsets.
I'm using Swiftech MCW-NBMax, but EK also has a block that fits to the original heatsink.

Anyone here running a 980x and having throttle issues? I am running linX and no matter what I do I get a drop in multi reported by CPU-Z). I have all throttle options disabled via bios and still dropping multi even trying different bclk and multi and mem speeds.

I have a question regarding vcore. I've noticed something different about the behavior of vcore with the 980X, compared with my previous 965.
My vcore is set to 1.2250v is BIOS, and CUP-Z reads it at 1.224v idle, and 1.256 - 1.26v full load, a 0.03v plus difference. Is this normal at all? When I had the 965, vcore pretty much stayed the same during idle and load, no big changes. BTW, I leave the Loadline Calibration setting at Auto as always, as disabling it would cause my OC to become unstable.
well i now have a 2nd 920, it seems more stable under 1.4 unlike the last but i still get random linX errors, it can run 50 max passes without error then fail 3 into a new run.

i have swapped over to 1903 bios from 1802 as well.
maybe you should try an uneven multiplier with an adjusted fsb to match the core frequency you are aiming at?! the uneven multipliers (x19 or x21) seem to be more stable and less power hungry somehow...Quote:

Finally got the board powered up but I seem to have a insane amount of problems
Anything after 140 BCLK results in a no boot to windows, I can post just fine up to 235BCLK but anything higher than 140 BCLK wont make in to windows
If I set anything higher than 140 with TurboV the app hard locks and will not make the changes
Some help with this would be appreciated

no im just getting massive instability
throttling doesnt really happen as it never gets hot enough, the whole system is under good water.
the problem i have is that an Asus P6X58D-E can outclock my rampage at the moment.
thats a £140 board on stock cooling compared to a £280 board with £200 worth of blocks on it
the P6X58D-E board does 4.2 on gulftown by changing the following:
200 bclk
21 multi
1600 ram
1.325 vcore
1.65 vram
my rampage isnt even remotely stable with those settings.
going to try a nehalem chip tonight and see if it is the board
thought a new bios would help as my chip is unreleased but the 1903 doesnt resolve the issue.
its a shame as the board is covered in blocks that i dont really want to sell

ran memtest to eliminate my memory from the problem, this would have been a major problem as OCZ dont make tri channel blade anymore.

BTW, i couldnt get my 950 to 3D above 218 bclk (5020mhz)
Anyone having issues with the gpu latches braking off? Both of mine has snapped off removing and installing a few cards.

No chance to try yet. Got home from the beach, and was playing with c7 settings on the ram. Was going to flash Monday afternoon, but a bunch of stuff came up. Hi, guys, has anyone had one or more of their memory channels disappear with this board? I’ve had my R2E for about a year and a half, along with my C0 920, but just recently started having problems. I’m currently running only 2 channels cause it won’t recognize the third slot (furthest from the cpu socket). I don’t think it’s a dimm issue as I’ve switched them around and it still happens. Are there some tests I could run? Memtest shows no errors in dual-channel mode.
You guys think it’s my 920 or my R2E, or another problem?

i lost a slot after bending a cpu pin, worked once i found it and pulled it back into shape.
GoNz0, thanks for the tip. I loosened up on my mount and that seemed to make it a little bit better. After that, I found this site here.
Specifically, my QPI/DRAM voltage's relationship with my DRAM bus voltage was too large. So if you have the same problem, check that.
I plan on draining, cleaning, lapping my cpu, and doing a remount soon. I'll check for bent pins then and let you guys know.

I got almost the same problem here. I have 12gb, but ALWAYS when i turn my rig on it only reads 10gbs. So, i hit "del" to enter bios, wait for the bios screen to fully load and then i turn the computer off and right after that i turn it on again (not reset, turn off and turn on). I had RMAed the mobo because of a bent pin in the memory slot, but that didn't fix the problem (didn't tell them it was a bent pin as they won't warranty it). Recieved replacement mobo and still problems with that slot.
Talked with Asus tech. and he told me it was a shorting issue (after replacing CPU and mobo), how is that possible, it was working. So I pulled the board, put a piece of electrical tape on the mobo where each stand-off is screwed to the case.
Presto never had an issue since. Tech couldn't tell me why the mobo was shorting after working fine for a few months, but it worked. And hopefully will work for you.

Yes, it seems stable. At least what was stable with 1802 is stable with 1913 (checked thoroughly with Prime96 64bit and Linx 64bit). I didn't try going further or lowering voltages with 1913.Quote:

Say, what QPI voltage are you running on your CPU?
I was afraid to push mine further, got it at 4GHz at the moment and 1.325v, but the QPI is at 1.4v. If I drop it any lower it becomes unstable :(
