I'm getting anctious waiting for the Q9450 yet I hear the Xeon X3350 can do the same 4GHz with ease. If this is true, I'll got for that instead. Anybody using a Xeon 45nm quad on the MAXIMUS yet? How is the FSB to over 485? Any links to good Xeon quad reviews for overclocking on air?

Thanks for tips guys got loadline calibration enabled now.

Ive got my CPU core voltage @ 1.30v and my fsb termination voltage at 1.30volts also, should i be keeping these at about the same? or can i lower fsb Termination much more? I will be experimenting lowering cpu voltage more but just not sure what i should be trying termination voltage at..

put a fan over the nb like this. it lowered my nb and sb temps 10-15 degrees.

as I said in an earlier post 0903 has S3 issues I'm using 1004 and haven't had any S3 issues. I'm even able to use lower voltages.

Sounds good so far, but what else for real world everyday use is fixed. S3/STR on a 5:6 divider is enough already. I just dont wanna' go through another BETA 907 disater.

Can any E6750/E6850 user confirm good results all around in BETA 1004? I'm really concidering that Xeon X3350 any high FSB overclock reviews yet?

Ill be using a X3350 here shortly, but my board is currently with the Rampage formula hack :)

is "Core Voltage" under "CPU Physical Info" in EVEREST the VID? It's 1.300V on my Q6600 G0 and my actual voltage is at 1.47 so it's not the current voltage. I can't get most little vid apps to work being that I use xp 64 so I'm looking for the VID if this is not it.

MF 1004 is very 45nm friendly, On the Asus Taiwan FTP 1004 was listed as NON beta definately flash to it.
The Xeon is clocking better than the Q9450 from what I have seen.

Very good results with E6750 and 1004 for me :up:
No higher OC, but very stable for me and no problems with the settings from 0903 (450x8 and 515x7), but don`t load OC Profile from another version, set settings again manually and save in OC Profile again after flash.
Also a very little bit more performance in Everest Cache/Mem bench, but it`s not much, really.

First time in OC'ng. Started priming more than two hours ago using small ffts for a start. How long should I let it priming? I started my Vcore at 3.5 but it kept giving me error, so I add a little Volts at a time until I end up with 1.4625 V in bios but reading at 1.44 on probeII. Worried about the cpu temp which at 56 deg on load, should I? It is using an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro.

Suggestions are welcome!!!:)

56c on load is more than ok I wouldn't worry about it.
Running prime is more of a gray area, some will ask for insane running time and others are satified with a few hours. I would run small fft's for 3-6 hours, if it passes switch to blend and run it for 6-12 hours and I would call that rock solid.

Thanks! How about my Vcore? I'm jealous of those people whose CPUs are running at 1.35 v or so? Is mine at 1.4625V too high?

Hi, I'd be worried about 56c under load in probe as it consistantly under reads temps at around 25c less than the actual core temps...

Everest is very acurate, grab the latest version and you'll be set.
Every chip is different, your vcore seems a tad high for 4.0GHz I need that for 4.4GHz, for 4.0 I can run around 1.34 - 1.35 volts

After Flashing my stable OC is no longer stable, performance monitoring apps (SpeedFan and nVidia Monitor) crash it. Guess I'll have to grab the Rampage versions of all the drivers and reinstall the apps.

I've had this too and I'm still on the 907 formula bios. I just chose not to use Speedfan anymore and just use the PCprobe thingy. It had nothing to do with my settings being unstable as I haven't had a single stress test fail on me after that. It might be possible to just adjust speedfans settings but I never bothered.

I'm really itching to get this mod done but I don't really have the time to go through lots of time of stability testing atm :( Might be a while when I do.

But I wonder, when you've flashed to the Rampage bios, can one flash the bios later by the "more traditional" means ? :)
I'd assume it will but you guys probably know this for sure :)

Lowest possible setting that's still stable.

If it's stable at the lowest possible setting, then just leave it there. If not then work your way up until it's stable using OCCT in CPU setting. But considering the fact that you state this exact voltage leaves a faint suspicion that that is your stable voltage, am I wrong?

I can post at ~3.8GHz and boot to windows at 3.6GHz which are both higher that before Rampaging it but it's less stable at my usual 3.4GHz (8x425) and no longer stable at 3.2GHz.

So mixed results from me.

Im experimenting with 1.26 voltage now for the cpu core @ 3.33 ghz, seems stable so far with fsb term voltage @ 1.30 so i will try lowest setting after test.

V1004! Cool, I'm concidering a try late this weekend. I mainly need it to be E6x50 friendly for now, or to test w/ my old GO Q6600 till I decide on X3350 or Q9450. So any actual BIOC options added or removed since 903? Is S3/STR stable w/ or w/o ACPI 2.0 Enabled? Is CPU BIOS reported corrected to read as cores 1/2 or 1-4 averaged?

How does the B3 Q6600 or recent rev play on this for temps v/s higher FSB OC?

EDIT: I'm have challanges trying to boot w/ Ai as Strong and or booster to Enabled w/ RAM in sig even to 2.3v What is likely holding this back, BIOS ver. or RAM? What RAM is getting same 1150+ w/ less vdimm?

I just downloaded the Trial Ver of Everest and started to prime again using Blend. CPU temp result is very close between Probe and Everest, actually almost all the readings are close to each other. Not sure about Core 1 and Core 2 temp though, why are they higher than the actual CPU temp on Everest?

did the flash earlier today with very promising results. unfortunatly my crucial lanfest are on rma, and i bet i get junk single sided ram when they return my rma.

si i'm in the market for a new set of ram. what ram will get me about 1200mhz on these boards? was thinking of getting the axeram 1200mhz's but is there a better set out there?

there is no need to install the Rampage drivers for they are the same as the Maximus.
I would recommend a clean OS install, and some users reported that they need a drop or 2 more vCore after the mod.

My Corsair does 1175MHz @ 2.12 volts ( bios ) 2.21 volts (Everest)
they will also do 1275MHz @ 2.18 volts (bios) 2.26 (Everest)
Extrmely pleased with this kit, looking at grabbing a 2x2GB kit after I sell a kidney and grab a EK block for new gpu
1004 temps seem to be reporting correctly, or they did for me anyways, It could be your bios giving you grief, you seem to banging your head alot on a few issues with the 9?? series bios.

core temps are always higher, this is normal

well ive been doing very short tests as im impatient so wont no a sure guarantee if its stable till i run it overnight but im running @ 1.26 now 3.33 :D

and FSB termination at lowest voltage also that you mentioned :)

I've had better luck with 1004, but I'm running a Q6600 and only running 2 sticks of ram. Seems like alot of E8400 and dual core users, and others using all four DIMM slots benefit from the extra settings of RF BIOS. If you're going to make an X38 NB act like a X48, you may want to consider active cooling, because you'll be pushing the volts on it.

Here's a basic question for you folks:
If I am 9 hours prime95 blend stable at certain settings, then I bump a) the multipler by .5 (to go from 3.6 GHz to 3.8 GHz) and b) the CPU volts a bit, and then prime95 starts to create rounding errors at 2 hours, is there any chance the problem is anything but the CPU volts?

In other words, does upping the CPU speed while touching nothing else impact any other settings in the BIOS besides CPU volts?

If you only changed multi to get higher CPU mhz, not only you'll need to check your Vcore but also PLL and possibly your NB volt as well. It's best to post a full bios template so we can better see what may be the prob.

Ok guys, I need help and suggestions here, today I ran prime95 at small FFTs settings for more than 5 hours with no errors. Then i switched to Blend settings and it primed for 2 hrs and 5 min until i get this error below on worker thread #2!

When I try to stress test RAM on divider 5;6 or 3:4 and in Prime 95 v25.5 blend , I usually just get hard reset, no errors or warning of any kind. What does this hint to? On my AMD test rig, it at least stops w/ an error in either tread before just blacking out and resetting.

This one if it doesnt just reset out of the blue, it has went to BSOD before reset. Just curious. This has happened on many BIOS ver. dut usually on the 5;6 divider under 480x8 or 500x8. It is stable at each. I'm just saying, when I was tweaking it to get there, I rarely ever go an error when on the divider, just reset/restart. Even when just close to stable. on MAX, I a few times might get a tread fail msg.

Prime small fft = stress on CPU primarily
Prime blend = more stress on the NB/Ram than CPU.

Try raising your NB Core, Vdimm(Ram volt) and a relaxed timings. Don't adjust all of the above in the same time. I'd suggest try NB core volt first since you're already good for ~2 hr blend.

I'm getting rounding errors in prime95 at 2 hours, 2 hours 45 mins, etc with NB voltage of 1.61 (bios = everest).
I would try increasing the relax to [1] or [2] and definitely your RAM volts.

Can I use a program like Asus update to flash to the next released bios for the rampage when a rampage bios is running?

You can. If you flashed using the newest method involving AFUDOS it'll set the ROMID to that of whatever bios you flash so Asus Update will work just fine. :cool:

i would suggest not to live the CPU PLL AUTO because it might give you
supid high voltagens and E8*** doesn't supports that much...

I agree. I don't leave much on AUTO because you don't know what the BIOS is doing. How can you troubleshoot settings if you don't know what they are?

I put my usb in the computer, using the usb boot program tell it to create a boot disk ,using the boot files that I downloaded , it formats the stick says it puts the files on the usb but it's blank? Also when you flash you don't use easy flash correct ? it should boot as a removable device? Also is the front page correct or has the method changed to flash the bios? Im not doing something right with the usb stick?

just an update for you guys. tried flashing to 1004 Beta yesterday and guess what. the stupid bios isnt stable with my quaddie even at my fully stable 3.6GHz which was running on 0907. naturally i decided to downgrade and had to go thru hell before i was able to do it. finally managed to complete it by 2am.

anyway, i am sticking to 0907 from now on unless some1 convinces me otherwise. its been the most stable bios for me so far.

still no luck on getting my quaddie stable on 4.0GHz.

funny.. 0907 wasn't stable for me at all. I had gone back to 0903 but the S3 issues that were fixed in 0907 caused me to upgrade to 1004 which allowed me to lower my voltages and it runs faster than 0903.

could it be that its because you are running 45nm processors? mine is 65nm and perhaps that might be the problem. i dont know though coz i tried running and running but it didnt do me no good.

Auto CPU PLL gives about 1.60v yu can measure it at anytime in your BIOS, Everest. Auto for CPU PLL is a good starting point as it adjusts acordingly to your overclock, then you can tweak it from there manually.

you cant load a saved bios profile after flashing from 907 to 1004.
clear cmos and redo your settings manually, then resave your profile.
And 1004 has nothing to do with 65nm or 45nm, anybody with 4GB's or higher should go to 1004 for its the only bios with higher trfc
1004 is the best so far and its an official release on the Taiwan ftp. No longer beta, this has been disscussed b4 many pages back. I would look at how you flashed the board and retry it.

So that was the purpose of loading those wr1/wr2.bat files?
Maybe this information should be included/posted so ppl are clear what method is best for them. With changing the rom id this will definately be an issue for some later on.
The newer method of flashing should be the prefered way as it makes no seroius changes in voiding the warranty

The .BAT files edited parts of the bios usually locked out, so we could flash the Rampage bios. With the ES version of AFUDOS it doesn't need to be edited.

I was on the ASUS Taiwan site last night and managed to find the BIOS downloads and downloaded 1004, but the file size was identical to the "beta" from the global site.

Not sure what to make of that.

Hey guys. I've fallen victim to the random BSOD on this board. Previously rock solid settings now randomly and fairly regularly crash. Here's what I'm running.

3.6 cpu
1.66 vcore (I know it's high. but that's what the POS chip needs)
400 mhz fsb
960 mhz memory
2.00 vdimm
1.54 nb vcore
1.17 sb vcore
1.58 fsb vtt

The system doesn't crash under stress since I can play UT3 for hours at a time but randomly it will crash when idle or whenever. Could this be a degradation problem or is this just part of the Maximus owner experience?

Hi, ofcourse it will, both are reading from the external diode, you need to read your core temps which are measured internally...

These were my current best BIOS 907 settings for 3.81GHz with my Q6600 GO. As soon as I deinstalled my 8600 GT, and replaced it with an 9800 GX2, my favorite stable 3.8GHz BIOS settings would not boot withought getting a CPU Check on my Maximus LCD Poster. It booted fine using the BIOS default settings.

I had to then load in my saved OC profile in, and back er down to 3.3GHz.

I need to go back to OCing my system to get my 3.8GHz back. I was thinking it was just a CPU voltage issue, but have given it 2 small bumps with only getting back to 3.4GHz.

After an unsuccessful 3.5GHz attempt, I ran into that Maximus CMOS error message, that only time heals. (The clear CMOS button did not help me out.)

I must have tried 10 times booting unsuccessfully to get around the CMOS ERROR on the LCD Poster. The display would go from 'INIT ROM' to 'CMOS ERR' to System lockes up...

I was real close to removing the battery, but that was under the GX2 and I didn't want to take it back out. I chilled for 20 minutes with the power off to the PC. After some Captain Black, I was ready to try again...

Came back in, hit the system with power, and it acted like it was fine again!! Booted right up.

Loaded the last successful OC profile back in that worked with some light OCCT testing, then backed that down a tad for saftey. 3.4GHz is where she currently sits.

My gut feeling is that I am so new at OCing CPU's, that it just needs a BIOS adjustment that I havent tried yet...

The CMOS error did give me pause though... Scarry stuff for me! ;)

I am trying to decide if I should go to the 1004 BIOS, or try and get 0907 to return my 3.8GHz...

I don't know what BIOS setting that my GX2 put more stress on that caused my system fo fail with a CPU check.

Hi, I thought I read somewhere that newer CPUs like core 2 duo uses Digital Thermal Sensor to measure their temps internally which make it more accurate than the external diode that was used couple of years ago!

There's really no need to run at 110 talonman, the bus is not even close to the bottleneck on any games that are out right now, only MAYBE in rare situations in advanced CG work with heavy textures.

Probably burning your chip out lol... 1.66 dang something's wrong with that chip. I hit 3.6 on my old 6420 at 1.36v, I think it's defective or something.

put your USB stick in and resart the PC, press F8 when booting to get the option screen and then boot from USB stick
or try setting it as a HDD manually in the bios and then have it to boot from that drive.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong coz I'm new in stuff like these, in my understandings, this Digital Thermal Sensors which newer CPUs uses nowadays to measure core temps more accurately than before is the one which digitally transmits the signal to programs like Everest, Probe etc to correctly display the readings. True or not?

I doubt its your NB voltage at this point. What's your CPU volts? Might want to look in to upping that a little bit if its not too high already.

Vcore at 1.44 already, tried at lower volts at first but kept on giving me error when priming at Small FFTs test, raised it a little at a time until I finally settled at 1.44 coz it primed for 5 hrs + without errors then switch to Blend test. Seems with NB at 1.49, it primes longer, but gave me error at priming 9hrs or so. Dram is at 2. v .

i have the E6600 and dont want to go to the maximum on overclocking though i have everything on watercooling. (CPU,2xMosfet,NB,SB)

what are save settings to start with?? or can i start with some sttings shown in thread 1??

If you're not going for a super high overclock, you could just set it 400x9 for a 3.6ghz and try 1.4v on the cpu with maybe 1.45v on the NB and a few clicks over default on the FSB Voltage. There are some good settings on page 1 if you want more exact settings or read through some of the posts in this thread and you'll find lots of settings that people use.

Often the settings are for quad core or for 45nm cpu´s does this matter?
or is there no big difference for 45 vs. 65nm cpu??

did you include the name of the rom with the extention in the /i portion so its like

afudos /iROMNAME.rom /n /pbnc

?

note there is no space between the /i and the rom

I'm pretty much where you are at this point. I'm 5 hours (and running) prime95 blend stable at 3800 MHz, 9.5X, 400 FSB, 400 strap, 1066, and 1.400000V CPU.

You might be able to bring your Write Recovery Time down to 55 or lower. I seem to be stable at 55 - although I'm running Clock Twister = Light. Not sure what sort of difference, if any, that might make.

Right now, it looks like my problems were a result of insufficent CPU volts. In testing, I backed down to 3.6 GHz and was stable for many hours. I upped to 3.8 and started having problems immediately. So I finally said F-it and set the CPU volts for 1.400000 at 3.8GHz. Seems to be working.
Wouldn't be surprised if the memory settings all on AUTO were fine all along.

Indeed you are wrong. CPU PLL is not monitored by Everest, I haven't found a program doing that. Would be cool though. :)

Well I think I am going to try out the 1004 with my Q6600. I downloaded the driver, and extracted it onto my Flash drive.

I booted and hit the delete key to enter the bios.

I used the flash utility and it found the BIOS on my flash drive fine (C drive). I let it read the file in and the flash utility verified that it liked the file and asked me if I was sure I wanted to flash. I told it no due to remembering somone mentioning that you had to have all your BIOS setting in their default settings, or the Flash could not work...

I don't understand why the flash utility would care what your current settings are, right before it overlays your old BIOS with a new one...

I dont remember what the default settings were, and I am not sure when exactly I am to use the clear BIOS button...

Can I flash withought trying to set everything back to default, and when do I need to hit the clear CMOS/BIOS button...

(I am at work right now and don't have the button in front of me so I cant remember if it is CMOS or BIOS.) :)

you can update your bios via ezflash as long as its a rampage bios. afudos replaces the wr1 and wr2 bat files. according to the stilt, they were used to write information that the non es version of afudos could not. with the es version, it writes all the information including boot block information and new romid.

also a third possibility of flashing inbetween rampage and maximus was mentioned by kup, though i dont know if it has been tested though. it involves corrupting your bios and going through the bios recovery procedure.

man this bios increased my 24/7 clock 200 mghz and my reset button now works at higher clocks. it used to not work even at a stable 24/7 prime at 4.30ghz. Unless I used the shut down button.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was a bit sketchy on what exactly the wr1/wr2.bat files were for.

Now all we need is a new bios ......

I have always flashed using my current oc profile and it has never been an issue. Once the flash is complete and the box restarts, power down and clear the cmos ( the button ) Then power up and clock on
