This is what Im hearing but from my own observation I dont think its exactly true... The dividers affects the Performance level but I think 1066fsb cpus still runs at 1066strap regardless the divider here's why....

All test ware done @ 3600mhz ( 514fsb x 7 ) 1:1 , timings are all the same (even sub timings) and same OS ....

SPI 32M times

E6600 with DFI 965-s = 13m09s Performance Level= n/a
E6600 with IP35 pro = 13m11s Performance level= 7
E6850 with IP35 pro = 13m40s Performance Level=7

Im not an expert on knowing how straps really works but the IP35 + E6600 using 1:1 divider is just as fast as the 965-s which is running at 1066strap.... But with an E6850, spi32M is 29sec slower:shrug:

After running the E6850, I replaced it with an E6600 and ran superpi again to double check... The E6600 was again ~ 29sec faster...

So if its true that using 1:1 divider puts you in the 1333strap then both E6600 and E6850 should be just as fast, right? ... But since the E6600 was alot faster then I believe it was running at 1066strap unlike the E6850... even at 1:1 :D

i read from a post over at OCXtreme from a user who has close ties to abit that said (pic included) the 1:1 and 1:1.20 ratios were at the 1333 strap...i think a lot of what you are talking about has to do with the bios being tweaked to maximize the E6600 over the newer 6850.

Interesting observation. Whether this is true or not I still believe that achieving the highest FSB and CPU speed possible at 1:1 with the tightest timings you can achieve at that given speed is the best way to go.

I'd like to see some confirmation about this though.

You can wait for somebody to confirm it but it is true.... I wouldnt be making up something like this lol....

What are the limits for the voltages on the board? I want to get 478 fsb stable but it bsod's after a minute of orthos. I know the cpu can handle the clock speed i think its just voltage. I keep getting BSOD irq_less_than or whatever and it says Memory Management.

your answer is in the bios or just open Uguru and click on "setup" and then "OC Guru" to review the voltages...OR...you can go here to be spoon fed!

Looking at that post, under the picture titled "NB STRAP，FSB8001066/1333," what BIOS is that? Mine doesn't have the NB strap options but it'd be damn nice to be able to choose dividers without having a strap being related to them

Nevermind, reading further in the thread reveals that is the non retail bios :(

i would bet that was a specially designed bios from abit sent to "Hicookie".

It makes me sad :( I really hope they put it back in their newest release, it'd help me with my memory clocks greatly

Edit: Has anyone tried opening one of the IP35 bioses with a modtool? I tried awdbedit and modbin but they give errors, I wonder if Abit has any hidden goodies in the BIOS we could unlock

to state a safe voltage above specs would be soley subjective on my part or anyone trying to recommend a range of voltages...it really depends on what you feel comfortable with applying above the default voltage.

Thats exactly what Im talking about.... it just doesnt make sense cos if 514fsb 1:1 in this board is in fact using the 1333strap, then there's no way it can catch up to DFI 965-s thats running on 1066strap.... If the P35 chipset can run this fast at 1333strap then it should be a monster at 1066strap... but running 400fsb x 9 = 3600mhz .. 2:3 divider ( 1066strap ) yields about the same time ( maybe a lil faster )....

Maybe that feature is only for the new 1333fsb cpus cos like I said above the E6850 I tested was 29sec slower..... I dont know much about chipset/bios features etc but I think I know enough about superpi and there is no way any motherboard can run this fast at 1333strap... maybe 600fsb x 6 :D

sure it can catch up and overtake the DFI board...the DFI could be a sub-par board or a sub-par bios that really did not tweak the chipset to maximize performance (possibly higher latencies to allow higher FSB)...i couldn't do that on the Abit QuadGT board which was a 1066 board too!...no way!:)

Interesting, Ill try and play with it later, as for those two boards the quadgt and dfi were the two fastest 965 boards Ive ever played with. Great boards IMO.

Has anyone else had trouble keeping the quad core stable on stock speed? Prime95 kept causing restarts and Uguru was showing 1.24v for the CPU under load and I have a G0. I had to bump the CPU and MCH voltage up and it hasn't failed yet after almost 3 hours with the Prime95 large FFT test. That doesn't seem right for stock speed and it doesn't look good if I'm going to OC.

make sure you have disabled C1E, EIST and CPU Thermal in the bios before running any stress programs.

another thing...memory sometimes needs more than 1.8v to run at stock speeds...also, might want to switch dimm slots to see if one of the dimm slots might not be up to par.

Maybe it is the ram. I tried OC'ing a little to see if it would boot at 9x296. It wouldn't boot at default settings after just changing the fsb but it did boot at that speed when I set the ram to 1:1 ddr-592. Also Memtest didn't get any errors after 6 hours last night. Does suggest that there is a memory problem?

Ace, why disable CPU Thermal? Doesn't that protect your CPU from overheating and frying?

Also, which ram slots are you all using, the blue or black?
