EK Blocks for the 280GTX are for sale on the EK site... I can't tell what is going on with the back plate though...
http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/
Remember they come from Slovenia
EVGA's solution for the 280 http://www.evga.com/products/enlarge...CU-HC16-B1&I=1 :rocker::guitar::rocker:
Didn't EVGA use DD blocks on prior cards? This doesn't look like a DD product.
Would the 4870 block fit on a 4850 too?
GPU and ram seems to be identical but there is different power circuit.
I just got my his 4870 in today and my 3870 EK block WILL NOT fit. The pcb holes dont align at all besides the 4 center ones which sucks. I really wanted to fit it on this card.
Guess we will have to wait for EK to get us a new one.
3dmark06 score below. These 4870s are wicked fast.
*Dreams shattered*
Today I ordered 2 WB EK for my gtx280, something recommended to put on the back of the card on ram?
wrong company.
BFG was the smart one that paird up with DD
eVGA paired up with that crap of a company called innovotek. And got chewed out by me and a lot of other water people for picking a stupid partner.
Black Pearl which was corrosion nightmare = eVGA + innovotek.
The middle hole is the important one.
Do the ram and gpu lign up. Thats the question.
U can always tap the block to make the holes. That isnt the issue.
THe issue is does the block sit flat with the ram and core.
All the companies are participating in and enjoying the N00b-fication of the computer market with reckless abandon.
OCZ, in all its wisdom, moved from copper channels for it FleXXX ram to all aluminum, complete with aluminum four way splitters.
Its a huge market of TT/Koolance/Zalman users out there. Even Swiftech has all but abandoned the high end market for all-in-one minature N00b kits.
see this doesnt make sense.
Its just inviting more problem
This is why i miss Macri and his "idiot factor" theory.
Meaning all companies should assume there customers are idiots and make it easy for us.
Mixing metals is not idiot factor. Thats retarded factor. Inviting us to mix metals.
This is why i dont buy that stupid ram product and i make it a mission to tell everyone not to buy it.
Im sorry i still love my Ballastix and reapers.
But you need to force no sale on an item for the company to realize that THERE THE IDIOTS and have them pull it off.
It really is too bad too, that splitter was a great idea to decrease restriction and the new blocks look good, too bad they dropped the copper, I was going to go with them till I found out about this a while back. Maybe the next version will take them back to copper.
you know what i always wondered.
You know how they work with or without water. I wonder what would happen if you filled it with water or some coolant and sealed it.
I mean otherwise it would be hallow and open and trapped. You guys get what im saying? Its like having a bubble stuck in your radiator.
Would the performance gets worse? or better?
Well, I tried a 3870 EK block on a 4850 and this is the result....
The gpu lines up just fine and sits down well. The RAM sort of lines up....the upper row of RAM chips are perfect in the way they hit but the side line of RAM chips only touch on their outer half....meaning half of the chip sits inside the RAM sink on the waterblock.
As for tapping new holes in the block.....guess that'd work except for the bottom hole, the one below where the aluminum MOSFET cooler attachment screws on. The card's hole is beyond the edge of the block....meaning you cannot tap a new hole there....there's nothing to tap into. So, you can have the 4 screws around the gpu and the two upper holes retapped, but that's about it.
I think it'd be best to wait for a new block........
Also, the 4000 series Radeons will have to be totally new.
They might look very much the same but the only holes that are on spot are those around GPU.
Allready making the 4850/4870 block so you will have to wait just about 10 days ;)

The block for the ram will be release for the gtx280 ?
