ATI isnt competing in the "high end" market really (8800GTX /. 9800GTX2 et cetera), they said they will keep to more low / mid range, just happens these cards are kicking some butt at a great price, if they make a $500+ card (likwly the X2) that will be the "high end"
Still haven't got Crysis working?
Thread subscribed.
I can only get the bench app to work right in XP I can't start the flyover bench with the app in my vista 64 bit , instead it just starts the game. I have spent 6hours+ just trying to get it going. I posted up the benches in xp, when I get Vista 64 benching done in full DX10 glory I will add it of course. I can say the game is playable with high details @ 1680 X 1050 on a stock gpu, quite impressive for a midrange card, more than I was expecting for sure.
The only ones I found will change the game settings but the bench remains the same, could you show me a link?
Also I do not have oblivion or COD4 , I wish I did as I would love to test them (and play them). I am loading up Prey , and quake 4 to bench.
This was a clean install and all of my games needed to be re-loaded. I also dl. ed a few other apps we'll see if they work.
The integrated GPU Benchmark should accept the very high settings.
Try it with Xconfig:

Would be cool if it works, I could make a few benchmarks with my 8800 GTX, though it's not the best way to compare, but very High with AA
is pretty GPU limited...
the review as stopped Jimmyz the entire world is waiting for your review
you've become enthusiasts Celeb :p:
hurry up man, show us what Ati can do
cheers might
How many FPS do you need in the Crysis benchmark tool for the game to be playable?
It feels playable at high settings with 1680 x 1050 so the 35fps avg it turns in on that bench settings seem reasonable. it isn't smooth as butter but it is a far cry (pun intended) from the performance of my 3850 which had to drop to med. in fact the in game button for optimal settings choses high when clicked.
I ran the in game batch file and 19 X 12 results in this using the Xconfig file from a few posts up, very high settings. seems to me the bench app adds some overhead? the bench app showed no improvement where the ingame gpu test did.

I am not including it in the review but it does help for daily play, and image quality looks great.
I think what DilTech was saying is that there was no significant AA hit since in that game the shaders handled it(perhaps the RBEs would handle that task in other games?)... Many a great Dx9 game do not force certain methods of AA(shader based) so you can't really make a blanket statement and say that AA has been completely fixed.
I would love to see an oblivion with Qarl's Texture pack 3(4096x4096 textures) benched...
Ultimately I'm not entirely surprised by these results, they are great indeed but not enough to get current 8800GTS(G92 and up) or 3870 Xfire(and up) owners to jump. However for the budget minded gamer/bencher who has suffered along with an old 7 series nVidia or ATI x1xx gpu the 4850 is the best upgrade option hands down...
What might get me off my 8800GTS(802core/2003shader/2248memory gaming/stress test stable) is the 4870 1gb GDDR5 for $329. I'm just upset I have to wait at least another freaking month to buy one.
@ OP thanks for all hard work/effort you've put into benching this card for the community... Kudos to you!
wasup, nice but try to compare with other graphic cards like 3870 single/X2 , G80 ultra, G92 gt/gts and the 9800 series , this be very useful to many people , congratz
As I said earlier I am very busy outside of the forums, I own 3870X2's but all of my past tests were at 4.5 - 5ghz, those results would be meaningless here. I may have time to retest later at the slower speed. I never needed to downclock before but since this is a review I selected 4ghz.
This is just a simple review, not a shootout, besides the ultra and the 3870x2 are well over twice as expensive. I don't own a 9800GTX but I will test If somebody sends me one. I think you guys comparing this to the top of the line are asking a bit much, this is a budget card for mid level gaming. the big dogs will be out soon.
As you're doing crysis runthroughs, could you run it at 1440x900 at High with no and 4x AA, and again with no and 4x AA with this custom config, using the benchmark tool (rather than the batch file) in DX9 mode?
The reason i ask is cause my 8800GT returns these results, and i want to see how the 4850 does in comparison:Quote:

I've also been saying this a thousand times, WAIT FOR THE 4870X2 FOR A HIGH END FROM ATI. Its that simple, the 4850 is a performance card, a very powerful one, but nothing more, nothing less. Get over it, and compare it to something more reasonable, such as a 9800gtx with a 5% performance boost as that's probably about what the 9900gtx will be and that will be the 4870's main competitor unless it can compete with the gtx 260
