Contrary to what has been said here, SLI does work with the demo. However, it does so very poorly. In Vista there is almost no gain at all. In XP with DX9 it is "better" but not where it should be. Nvidia has already said that SLI improvements were needed in the game and in the driver.

The only combination that SLI works decently with in my own experience is with XP in DX9 with the 169.01 betas. Running that combo I can average about 45fps in SLI and 25fps with a single GTS card.

As for Vista and SLI...I'd forget about seeing any meanignful gains until the drivers and game code are reworked.

As for people complaining about the graphics this is very similar to Far Cry as said. Someone said " But Far Cry played well on my 9700" yeah well that was a top card then and people complaining now seem to have last generation graphics cards and cpu'd and forget they can turn the settings down.

I think this is just a lot of people complaining they cannot run at High at their LCD's natural resolution ;) I think people have been too spoiled for the last year with games, the hardware beat up the software but now the tables are turned and people are blabbing.

I have an 8800U at 650/2200/1750 and I have had to go down to 1280x960 from 1920x1200 and therefore have to make a sacrifice, however I know when I play it in 3 years time at full whack it will still look good. Especially as they tend to make it better looking over time as well a la Far Cry.

The actual effects are stunning, the explosions and lighting effects really good. The actual map is huge too, think of the small rooms in Bioshock for comparison.

Run your regular 1900x1200 and put the game on medium. You will hardly notice the difference in the visuals but will nearly double your framerate.

Good to know then that 8800GT or similiar will run it OK at 1280x960 which is the res I'm using. :p:

Anyone fired up the editor yet? Apparently you can test out all the vehicles (helicopters, etc) and try out all the guns, maybe even fight an alien. Gonna try it out after the football tonight.

First of all games like BF2 are nothing but MP games and are designed in such way so you cant bring them in here. The present day gameplay is HL2:EP2, BioShock etc.

a) Yea you got open environment but they only give you an illusion that you have to choice, they set the waypoints for you the one if you follow will give you deeper storyline if u go your own way u get basic plot points. That is not an open choice environment.

b) Modes like Max armour and Max speed are replacements for armour supply and adrenaline pills. Gun setup is a replacement for having multiple weapons in the game. Plus these modes run out very quickly making them very annoying to use.

c) Physics, sure its got nice physics but its considered to be more effect physics then gameplay physics. That's what HL2 games use, do i need to explain further?

d) AI, still very stupid if you ask me. First thing, they shout "there he is" when they see me, there is who, i am elite solider wearing some kind of biomechanical suit i look more like it then he, plus how do they know i aint a she? Plus they dont know what and who and why.
Besides that when i entered one of the camps i shoot one guy who shouted me out, soon as i killed him others shouted false alarm. Yea false alarm they where standing next to his dead body, maybe the AI is so advance that they thought he was sleeping.


Nope trust me i choose my words carefully, nice graphics, stone age gameplay.

a) And BioShock/HL2 give you choices? Not in the least... Bioshock has you having a guy on a walkie all the way through, it's not like you could do what he tells you NOT to (except for killing the little-sisters or not)... HL 2 is VERY scripted, enemies are always in the same places and everything seems to run on an escalator...
You CAN do a secondary objective, check every nook and crease of Rapture for quests and side-stories, but they don't do anything more than tell the story, just like in Crysis...

b)Sure they are, but they're much more versatile, as somebody else stated, you don't have to conserve an ability, it comes back very quickly...
If your cloaking wears off quickly, you're moving too fast... The slower you move, the longer it lasts...
Strength, well I'd imagine you can only jump 12 feet in the air so long on a self-recharging power-source...
Speed... When you just activate it, and "walk", you're still moving faster than normal sprinting, and it doesn't require power... When you actually use it, you move so fast it doesn't even compare to anything...
Armor... If it wears off to quickly, you SUCK at using cover... Simple as that :)
You're, for all intents and purposes, still human afterall ;)

c) So I suppose you haven't played the game "Splinter Cell" style, using objects lying around as distractions, thrown a friggin' DUMPSTER at the head of your enemy, or simply sent them flying from a fist->head... I'm sorry, I don't see how that's "effect gameplay"... In HL2, it was friggin' mandatory to use the gravity-gun in some areas, it became boring.. Here you at least have the choice...

d) True, I've taken out guys when their mates were standing 3 feet in front of them, without getting noticed, but they have to make compromises... If they'd made the AI any more mindful, people would have started yelling "TOO HARD"...

To me it seems like you simply don't want to like the game... Of course it's a matter of taste, but I just don't see why you feel that the game forces anything onto you at all... :)

I plan on getting a 8800GT this week and I was wondering if getting another 2gigs of ram now would help Crysis? I am running XP Home and I plan on moving to vista once SP1 is released so is there any good reason for me to get another 2 gigs if I run it at 1280x1024? I will definitely get another 2 gigs once vista is out though.

What i don't get, even with settings @ high, I see objects popping in and out of existance a distance ahead all the time.
What is up with that? Do they have to use such ancient techniques in next gen games, surely those few rocks that pop in and out of existance don't do that much for performance...

I've seen some oddities like that also.

I'd say its something that needs to be worked out in the drivers. They are what handle those things, not the Crysis devs.

Even 32Bit XP can use more. So yes. If 64bit XP..really yes.

Anyway, you wont save/lose money to buy now vs when SP1 comes out.

Also I dont see any reason to wait for SP1 with Vista. It wont magically fix alot of issues. All those issues and more and already patched. So a bare SP1 system would actually be behind patch wise.

My Crysis (x64 with 8800GTS) runs at ~23FPS average stock clocks and ~28FPS average with the clocks in my sig... with these settings, it still runs great with my single gig of RAM....

The draw distance is actually a huge performance hit, and I mean huge. You get way better draw distance in Very High. Thats why you see things popping in and out. You don,t even notice it in very high settings, but you def will in anything under that. Its a DX10 feature only.

Though I do agree. They could have figured a diff way to do it. Like fade atleast instead of popping in and out.

It does get a little annoying though when your shooting at an enemy in the far distance thinking, wtf why isnt he dead, only to walk up 10 more feet and see a rock in front of him. They will prob release a patch or fix this issue with the full version. Demos arent just to get you to buy the game. (for some companies atleast LOL)

But yeah, I know fir a fact thats the draw distance restriction doing that. Doesnt do it really in very high.

Yeah, i remember the 'pop-up tress and shrubs' happening on Far Cry quite a bit. It took me ages to build a rig that could play it maxed out so i got used to it in the end.

If you are featuring full open environment gameplay then thats what i expect. They could have done alot better when it comes to this but they thought that allowing you to kill/press a button from any direction means open ended gameplay. Take this part of the story for example, you go to disable a radar jammer by pressing a button to turn it off. Whats to stop the enemy from coming back and switching it on again. Heres the thing shooting it dont disable it, you cant even blow it up. Now that would be open ended gameplay what you can complete set tasks in the manner you want.

b) True but it aint new is it, its just a different twist to same old stuff.

c) As i was saying Crysis has effect's physics, HL2 has gameplay physics. If you want to see a house be destroyed to bits play HL2:EP2 in one of the levels just before the end many structures get completely destroyed by the combine.

If Koreans know what the elite unit is wearing, then that unit aint that elite when any solider in korean army knows about his top secret suit. Trust me the first thing a korean solider would be shouting when spots someone hidding in the bushes is intruder not "there he is", other guys are probably thinking, who your cousin coming to visit you or something. As solider you are trained to recognise enemy and to sound off descriptively, he isnt very descriptive now is it. Offcourse they should say this in Korean but they skipped on that as well. We have this nano suit yet it dosnt feature a built in translator, i am sure they could have added that to suit in 2020.

This is a very good looking game with poor gameplay and poor storytelling. Two things that game can not skip on if it wants to make it big, and that exactly what CryTek did, they made it look nice but not much else.

You can take this either way you want it, but i aint a sheep and i aint buying into what EA is trying to sell.

What did you do? Play this game while watching an episode of south park or something?

You can actually blow up the radar jammmer if you want.

Your saying theres no open ended gameplay in this game from playing 1 part of it that lasts 30 minutes if that. I would suggest actually playing the whole game before making that conclusion. This is just a demo. I can think of 10000 demos that have done the same thing, and if it isnt in the full version. Well, screw it, who cares the game is still fun.

so you call blowing up a house, with your grenade, killing whats inside with the debri, not gameplay phyisics. How about throwing a barrel to hit a wall to knock over an enemy. How about flipping a truck over a rock onto a bunch of soldiers. How about shooting down a tree which collapses on a hummer.....

Ok in the trailer, that house exploding looked pretty scripted to me. Does every house and building in HF E2 have physics like that? Well in Crysis it does, you see a shack, enemy inside. Well you can shoot him or just blow the thing up. done. But I will have to agree with you on this. HF does have pretty good gameplay. physics. But what you dont understand or see, is that so does crysis x100.

As for the suite. If you listened to the beginning of the game. The reason they are going to the island is because of a transmission an american female sent out that was on the island when the koreans evaced it. You could clearly hear Koreans in the background. Now I would think the koreans would alert their army of possible american infiltration. Plus, this is in the future. These suites might not be so secret. DO you know what the special ops gear they were looks like now? I do. If you go parading around the world doing missions with biochemical suites, someones bound to notice. As i agreed in my last post the shout outs are pretty dumb. But you said they couldnt even add them speaking Korean. Again, I say, did you just play this thing for 10 minutes and delete it? Where you watching TV or do you just hate EA that much. IDK. try downloading it again, installing it. and playing it in Delta mode. Good luck if you dont speak Korean.

No problem though. Just trying to explain the game to you and maybe youll give it a chance. Cause it seems you didnt really pay attention when you played it. IDK. IF your not gonna like it, Then your not. Thats your decision. Im just saying that when the full release hits. The game might be a little more then those first 30 minutes. maybe its more open ended, maybe it has 0-G levels, maybe it has crazy looking aliens. who knows.

Oh and you can down the suite over and over. But i think its freaking awesome. Whether its the same old crap or not. Go with what works i say.

I don't know about you, but the first time I even played the demo my instincts told me to blow it up. So I went and grabbed two fuel tanks and put them next to the radar device. I then went down to the dock and picked me up a large red explosive barrel and put it next to the machine as well. I got behind some cover and took a few shots, and blew that thing sky high.

I'm sorry if you couldn't figure out this simple aspect of gameplay problem solving, but that's your problem and not the devs.

for one how do you know that the suit isn't a globally recognized symbol at that point...

On a side note, I love how the game lets you play in whatever way fits your style. I love sneaking around, so I fully utilized stealth and silenced headshots throughout the level. I had full ammo the whole time. On the other hand, my brother and sister both ran through brute force and were constantly taking hits and running out of ammo and at times had to resort to their fists. Whatever works for you, I guess.

Wanna hear my new gameplay tactics?

I was playing the game earlier shooting at some Koreans on the beach. There where some birds fluttering and I caught one with a bullet and it landed dead right beside me. I looked at it for a quick second cause i was already at the brink of laughter at that, when i noticed the pick up symbol apear on my screen. LOL I picked the little dead birdie up and chunked it right into the Koreans face. It actually distacted him long enough for me to unload some shots and kill him. I freaking laughed out loud so hard. God this game is fun. Just when you think you have thought of all the possibilities of a situation, a dead bird lands at your feet. Speaking of feet, I love how you can see your legs and stuff. Makes me seem, more, me. LOL

I must admit that I'm usually a Rambo-type player, but I found it was a heck of a lot more fun to play stealthy in Crysis. Gives you time to survey the great atmosphere. :)

snipe w/o silencer, then wait for them to come... sprint to behind them and brute force them while they're looking the other way and are easy targets.

The Ai is realistic. People are stupid, so is the AI. The game feals like I'm going against real humans.

I hate the boats sailing around, they seem to be able to spot you at several miles' distance.. So I took the two red explosive barrels from the docks, put on strength, chugged them into the water, and waited for the boats to come by...

I also managed to take out a car by aiming for the reserve bottle of gas :D
Used an enemy as a human shield (pick up and carry 'round :D )
Blew up the garage at the second large checkpoint by aiming for ze barrels...

I haven't tried drowning anybody yet by throwing them into the water, but that's on my to-do list :rofl:

BTW, am I the only one who noticed that your aim get steadier when using strength and aiming down the sights?
Nice little detail that...

Also, when I was crawling around on the docks at the first outpost, I saw all kinds of underwater-life scooping around on the bottom... Mostly crabs, but the fact that they animated all these animals to make the world seem more alive just put a smile on my face... Same goes for the fish... I love watching them, and how they distort because of the water breaking the light... It's magnificent...

you can pick up dead birds but you can also pick up live ones. i chased one down picked him up and switched into strength mode and threw it at another bird and it killed both of them.

and the physics is by far the best in any game and it runs great for my pentuim D i spent at least 45min just blowing up the houses and shacks in strength mode i also had way to much fun blowing up trees.

as far as gameplay i love it. i can use a combination of stealth and Rambo style tactics and it's still fun.

great demo, physics are mind blowing, ran surprising good for my system and the best graphics i have ever seen. all in all i can't wait for the real game!
