By the time MGS4 comes out the PS3 will be 2 years old. Same thing with FF13, the system will be over 2 years old.
Its just sad that 2 years and not a single exclusive title worth buying?
die sony die.
This is a dumb thread, and that ^^^^ is a dumb post. It needs to be locked. We have enough arguments in the Car & Truck, Speek Freely & Liquid Cooling sections. We don't need another in News.
Everyone seems to think its doom and gloom for the ps3 but they sold 7 million consoles in its first year. Which is the same amount as the 360...

Who the hell care about some anal-yst?
This is Michael L. Savner's second "analysis"
His first was surge of EA sales due to release of new generation console and to buy Activision due to Guitar hero.
What a $%^**$#((&^%%&*&%ing genius!!!
sauce
people don't realise that feature-wise, PS3 is half the price of a 360.
(360's wifi addon, another controller, hdvd drive, etc)
PS3 is the most innovative future-proof hardware money could buy. Combined with a PSP, it's a revolutionary gaming device.
The ability to remotely play your PS3 (PS1 and soon PS2) games on the PSP is just WOW
I wouldnt be surprised if by end of 2008, you could play almost all PS2 games on the PS3 upscaled to 1080p and also play them remotely on your PSP
and thats only one feature.
Firmware upgrades FTW
PS: also folding ;)
Please make it clear if your quoting or not.
this is getting bored
back to back any thread with sony there would be bashing for just about anything sony make..
As a cutting edge console, but if all sony blue ray players had a unified ps3 chip inside(like the ee+gs for the pstwo)?
Sonys biggest mistake was not pushing the pstwo to take on the wii at the low end - had they copied the wii controller and made fun family orientated games it would have sold more. If anything the ps2 wasn't given enough attention by sony, and the ps2 sales could have helped eat up the losses on the ps3 and would be selling to a different audience anyway (the ones who wont buy a ps2 until its cheap, and dont care about high def, be it gaming or movies yet)
The PS2 is still selling just fine. Just as many as the PS3 in fact.
And...they are redesigning the PS2 again. It will be even lighter than the "slim" PS2. And having see one in person...I don't even know how they are going to do that. The thing is like a laptop computer, without the LCD. Without sales, Sony wouldn't have reason to keep the PS2 fresh.
skimmed the thread and didnt see any reference to this http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/12/s...-cost-in-half/

In a piece primarily focused on Blu-ray over at Business Week, a bit of scrolling led to quite the interesting tidbit: Sony has apparently been able to slash the production cost of its PlayStation 3 in half. More specifically, it was noted that the firm has been able to "shrink the PS3's chips and tweak its design," which aided in getting the cost per machine "to around $400 now, from above $800 just before it went on sale in November 2006."
Damn! They lose 200 bucks while selling at 600?
I know it is a hardware beast, but...
Just, someone, become a game developer and make 3 great racing games and 3 great FPS, and your done.
sure in one way they lost with the ps3, but in one way they have one big time with blue ray edging over hd-dvd.
Business Week says Sony has cut the manufacturing costs of the PS3 in half.

Sell sell sell, like Kramer would say "this dog has flea's" get out before you get Flea's tooo,.,...:yepp:
:am: :pimp: When i see someone saying "shrink the PS3's chips and tweak its design," that really backs me away from that purchase. They usually shrink the performance:eek: and Tweak/remove:hammer: lots of functionality.... Whoooooooo......
So i am even more hesitant to make that purchase:sofa:
Best $400 piece of electronics IMO.
I agree 100%. You get the gaming console with a Blu-Ray play back unit. The Blu-Ray play only unit lists for approx $250 on its own. And they're starting to come out with some good games - COD4, etc - and there will a lot more in the near future.
I think that it is the best investment going forward. It's playback is at a full 1080p which only the xbox 360 elite can match. The regular 360 is only 1080i.
Not a console gamer, but the thing folds like a beast. I think that Sony will have a much better year this year because of the "classic" playstation behemoths of Metal Gear and Final Fantasy. But they did have three games this year that I would have bought had I had a PS3, Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank, and Folklore.
sony should follow microsofts idea and have a online "club"
well yeah blue ray is probably going to win at this point, which it should it is the better format. Lets really think about it for a minute though when did dvd's really start to catch on? when dvd players hit 100 dollars and under. a 400 dollar console isn't going to be a huge seller to most of the public. I myself would buy the ps3 instead of JUST a blue ray player because i play video games so something that can do 2 jobs is worth it, but most people just want to watch movies not play video games. I don't think anyone should bank on the ps3 selling as a blue ray player, its just unlikely average joe is going to spend 400 dollars on something that plays movies when he bought his dvd player for 100 back in the day.
sigged
You mean - replace the words "online community" with "live", and "screen name" with "gamer tag", adding 14 year olds with microphones, adding meaningless "achievements" to games to increase their poor replay value to add a sense of non-existing competition, and charge monthly/annually for all of the above?
Instead, how about making your gaming account, into an MMO-esc experience, watch movies at your friends house form your ps3, oh yea, and TYPE WITH A USB KEYBOARD

But at the minute the ps3 cost the same as a cheap blu ray, so anyone going blu ray now may as well get a ps3. Whilst this price advantage wont hold, even with ps3 pricebdrops, standalone players will decrease in cost faster, but whilst its in place it will build the ps2 userbase even amongst non gamers. In addition the ps3 gets constant firmware updates to improve functionality, something even high end blu ray players have missed out on.
