Is that double sided think foam pad stuff? Or just layers of thin tape? I guess most of you guys are using phase and stuff? Air cooling is kinda small fry I suppose :p

I'm using an IHS from a socket 478 P4 which fits perfectly.Quote:

Armaflex will also work for padding. You can probably find it at any store that sells pipe insulation.
MSI also sells a mobile pad that will fit perfectly. Only $10.

It's regular old-school scotch tape. :D And it works like a charm. I'm using a Chilly1 dry ice container, which is among the most stressful things you can mount on a CPU, and it hasn't so much as put the tiniest ding, no matter how many stupid things I've done with it. Trick is to just get it perfectly flush with the core by choosing just the right amount of layers. Once you've got that, the core is virtually invincible.Quote:

Sorry dumb question, I pick-up a Yonah CPU from ebay, how can I tell if its an ES version? CPUZ doesnt mention anything about ES, only model E, Stepping 8, Revision C0?
Thanks
It's mentioned on the core itself ;).

Need your help guys:
have the board + T2500 with bios 1003c vcore and vdim. With air cooling everything works great.
With my promy the system doesn't boot to bios no matter the temp being negative or positive...
Boot led of board goes off and when i measure vcore with MM on the board it shows 0. Looks like there is no vcore coming to the cpu....
Any solutions, ideas to solve the problem?
Thanks a lot
It doesn't work, I tried on my aopen :(Quote:

Solved the problem of booting to bios with neg temps. It was a bad contact (board-case).
Meanwhile I have done kyosen tcore mod which afterall was not needed. Removed the mod and now when I boot to bios even with air cooling the cpu temp in bios is always fixet at 125º and windows crashes on load.
What can the problem be? how to solve it? i think i did the recontact well on the trace cut...
Your help will be much appreciated :)
Kyosen's Tcore mod is still needed,
I got 1.04 bios, i can go into bios under sub-zero temp, but still cannot go into OS, coz the temp shows 125c/1F
I did the mod tonite, and it works like a charm, boot into OS no matter how low the temp is.
bios 1.04? Any chance you could share that file mate? Can't seem to find it.
yeah, please share :)
no worry, here it is.
its still beta, with some minor bug fix, pls noted that there is no Merom support in this bios.
also, attached the windows flash utility so that you dont need to flash it under dos:)
R1.04
Redone Kyosen´s tcore mod and miracle: everything running smooth under promy cooling
FSB wall on my T2500ES is 260 FSB @ 1,64 vcore

damn, no Merom support.
who made this bios ?

Thx
I just installed a Merom 7400 on this board and I'm using a Zalman 9500 for cooling. I protected the core by laying Scotch tape on 2 sides of the chip.
What is a good temperature to expect when in BIOS?
I applied too much tape at first and the heatsink wasn't making good contact b/c I had almost 80C temp in BIOS. I removed a few layers and the temp dropped to 38C. I don't know how much more tape I should remove to get the optimal temp while maintaining the best protection using the tape. If I remove more layers, I may get lower temps but run the risk of cracking the core.
Please post what temps you register in BIOS and what type of cooling.
Thanks.
Which heatsink are you using? You don't want to use so many layers that you're getting in the way of contact. Use a razor to make sure that the tape is at the exact same level (or a hair lower) than the core. I was seeing low 20's at stock speeds in BIOS on a Tuniq Tower.
Couple of questions,
1. Are you guys seeing below ambient temps in bios, I'm seeing 13C in bios with air cooling and 20-21C ambient
2. To disable raid, disable ide controller, but if you have an Nvidia Graphics, black screen at windows? Correct? So enable raid?
3. Are you guys having warm boot issues? Cold boot is fine.
4. How do I set Tras? bios issue? or ram issue? I set it to 10 in bios, and cpu-z shows 14
If the heatsink is not making good contact with the core, you may experience boot problems. Don't use the HSF that comes with the board. It's junk. Use a real heatsink. Pads are good if you're worried about chipping the core.
You can set Tras once in Windows using a program like MemSet.
Hassan, to answer your questions
1. Yes. My watercooled T2600 reports 3C while ambient temp is 14C with core temp beta and bios
4. Same issue here, memset should fix the prob
I have some questions too
Anyone hear a high pitch electrial buzz sound when moving the mouse or moving files?
Is there a temp sensor on PWM? mines will go above 60C idle sinked (handheld temp sensor)
I'm using a Big Typhoon, and I'm using pads, when I doesn't warm boot, I power it off, power it on go in bios and temps are 13-16C. Thats what I was afraid of, lol seeing subzero with watercooling!!
So, if speedfan says 35-38 load, then really I should add 15-20 to that number, coretemp shows 45 and 38

You'll never see subzero with bios 103C (thank god :p: ). At -104C, my bios still reads 1C :DQuote:

Were you in BIOS when doing this, or in Windows? I've run 1.03B without the TCore mod well into the subzeros.Quote:

same here, no improment with the 1.04
it probably got out just for the support of VT in the T2700
Hi All,
New to the forums really, but my new kit hopefully earns me the right to post here :)
My T2600 and 975X a-YDG seem fairly typical based on what i have read in this and the other threads.
I can get to 233FSB and no further regardless of Vcore (vcore mod thanks) or any other settings. Using 1.03c bios and agree that is seems to give a good all round stability.
So i get 233 X 13 with some cheap Gskill HZ 6400 running 3:5 4,4,4,12
Here is what i have tried to get past 233
- Up to 1.65 vcore (but it sits as happy at 1.5 as it does at 1.65)
- Max Vdimm 2.15 (not done vdimm mod)
- Relaxing memory to 533 and stock
- Clocking in windows and Bios
- Talking to it nicely
- Giving it a kick
- Only tried Air so far - I dont think i will get further with the VC LS tbh
A small point of note is that i was stuck at 231 until i put a fan over the South Bridge area.... maybe its the southbridge that gets stuck?
Any comments or suggestions would be very welcome.
Welcome @ XS! :toast:
How hot is the SB?
Normally it´s a CPU-issue, when you stuck...
Try to get deeper temps at CPU, maybe outside with colder air od put it under water.
I got my T2600ES 1M to 250 MHz x 13 @ Air and 275 MHz x 13 under DICE...;)
Nice to be welcomed so quickly - thanksQuote:

Its also cold here tonight but it makes no difference.
Not that i'm unhappy with sub 20 seconds super-Pi 1M
Give the LS a shot. Gaining ~20-25MHz FSB is not uncommon going from air to SS. The VCCA mod is also helpful.
Hello guys,
Today i installed a sata controller on my AOpen because the raid onboard doesn't work and i'm having problems, after instaling windows, the performance is so weak, i get 28mb average speed and burst also 28mb, i don't understand what's happening, if the problem is on the motherboard or the pci card...
Does anyone here tryed to instal a sata raid controler on AOpen?
Using this 2 disks(maxtor diamondmax 10 300gb) i had great performance on my expert, don't know what's wrong.
Help plz ...
Thank you.

I think you would have to get a very expensive raid card that does all the work on the card to get it to work.
This is imo the one real let down of the Aopen board.... who builds a board like this and does not put a $20 raid chip in it for SATA??? :(
My advice is dont bother... go back to non raid.
I just can't believe it ...
I had so much problems geting this motherboard and now i'm just sad...
I wasn't giving much relevance to the fact the raid wasn't working, i thought a simple pci raid controler would do it but i guess theres no way to have raid on this board, its just stupid ... What about that raid utility program for windows and all that stuff while comp is booting ...
Did they Forgot in the end that there was no sata raid controler on this MB ?
Amazing...
I just turned my computer on after using it last night and it won't post. The Boot LED flashes once for about .5 seconds and then disappears. I follwed the manual for clearing CMOS and that did nothing. I then detached all devices from the board, except the RAM and HDs, and I still can't even get the Boot LED to even flash. The manual says that the LED should flash on and off while POSTing. I switched the RAM around to use different slots. I've also put the 667Mhz jumpers back on. Also removed the battery while clearing CMOS and nothing. I'm currently trying a very long CMOS clear to see if that does anything.
Long CMOS clear didn't work. I then removed Merom 7400 and looked for any signs of damage - nothing.
Nothing has worked. This board has the vcore and vdimm mods.
Does anyone have any idea?
That load screen is for IDE raid, canbe disabled in BIOSQuote:

I had to buy another i975 board since my last one didn't start. I'm using a Merom 7400 and my fear was that I would receive this new board from newegg and the bios would NOT be 1.03b. Sure enough, I got R1.03 bios according to the first screen. It won't boot up past the "PCI device listing" screen.
How do I flash the bios with 1.03b if I can't get past the PCI Device Listing screen? Would a bootable USB stick work?
EDIT: I actually have a laptop with a Yonah chip. Although I much rather not, I guess I could pull the chip out and use it on the Aopen board to flash to the 1.03b. But I really don't want to resort to this since I paid a buttload for the laptop and I've never taken a laptop apart before.
Thanks
You need to put another cpu to flash the board ...
I have now been able to try my Merom 7400 on 2 Aopen boards. The first board had vcore and vdimm mods and the processor made this horrible sound whenever it was under load. It sounded like a train braking hard on the tracks. But what's weird is that my new board (no vcore, no vdimm mods) doesn't make that sound at all. I actually got a higher FSB on the board that made the horrible sound - 225 stable FSB. My newer board struggles to get a stable 220FSB. I'm going to try remounting the heatsink to see if that helps.
I've pretty much had it with this Aopen POC board. I can't wait til Conroe is released so I can put my Merom 7400 into my Acer 8200 and not make this Merom ES purchase a complete waste of money.
My remote doesn't work properly. Sometimes when I boot up, it just doesn't work, other times it does (nofi what the problem is though)
Are also other people who experience this problem?:stick:
Yes, I get a high pitched squeal whenever I move the mouse, or whenever my hard drive (Seagate 7200.7 120GB) seeks/reads/writes.Quote:

I tested my T7400ES under DICE last night, but still stucks at 230 MHz to 235 MHz. Strange, that my T2600ES has with the 1.03b also probs under DICE.
With the 1.04 I reached 275 x 13 1M...
Wierd BIOS, anf no other at the horizon...:(
Looking forward to getting this board. It should be good. I will be posting results in a few weeks.
i am waiting for t7600 to come out or a better conroe mobo
Source of the squeal on my board is the L6 Sunlei R28 inductor. If I apply any sort of pressure to it, the squeal is muted, but not completely gone.Quote:

Got the board today. Thanks to Karaktu at Anand (#1 on the Heatware list).
The board looks good. Not sure which bios it has so I am going to start out in a test bed and then add the Merom after using my T2500 I got laying around.
I am hoping for around 2.6-2.7ghz. 3.0 ghz would be gravy.
My build thus far:
Asus 975 ydga
Merom 2.0 ghz T7200 ES
2 X 1 GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 6400 Memory 4-4-4-15
300 GB IDE drive
DVDRW I need to get
Cooler Master Real Power 550
PCI Express Vid card to buy (Will go cheap as I am waiting for the 7950 GX2 to drop or go Crossfire)
Lian Li PC60APlusII
This will be my main rig to go with my Dell Precision M90
Hi!
I have a T2300 stepping 8 CPU and this board. Managed to reach 255mhz(x10), but not even 1mhz more. It doesn't get any better if i increase voltages. At 2540Mhz the CPU is fully stable with 0.95Volts.
The funny thing to me s that, i have to set Vdimm to 2.1ghz to have a stable system (the rams are 2x1gb Corsair Value Select 667s). If a decrease voltage to 2.0 it crashes while POSTing. Ive even tried some fancy Mushkin stuff, but didn't help...
I've read the first 10 pages of this topic only. Is there any way to increase FSB furthermore? I really hope so :)
Thank you in advance!
255 has been the boards post limitation... clockgen or remote control will allow further increases
Thanks.Quote:

So far 2.616 ghz stable with Prime and Super Pi. Board is very quirky. It is much like a DFI in that respect. I had updated the bios to 1.08 and then it would hang at the Aopen screenie. I did a few things and finally changed the Vid Card to the top slot from the bottom slot and all is well.
There definitely is a limitation on this board as far as fsb. BUT we should all realize that these chips started on a different factor of 166 versus 200 so right there is a huge difference. So really 220 is 250 in that regard.
I figure with a little prodding this thing will do 2.7 with a tweak here and a tweak there. After working with it for a while it is quite a stable board and well worth it. I need to do some more stress testing today but it should be good to go and in the case soon (I always run a test bed out of the box first to get things tidy. THEN put it in the case and route the cables, etc.
By the way, one piece of advice: Always, ALWAYS reset the C-MOS when changing CPUs and/or memory.
Well I have settled at stock volts and settings and at 2.616 ghz. I am loving it. Speed step is still involved when not heavily taxing the machine and still powerful when I need it. Got to love this board. Now if vid cards could just come down a little in price...
Try Galaxy 7300GT 256MB :cool:Quote:

I've had an i975Xa-YDG with a T7200 laying around and found a buyer who wants Vista installed. I updated the bios with the most current one available which states it is compatible with Vista. I'm able to complete the installation but Vista won't boot. (XP Pro works fine) I read in the aopen forum that I should flash back to version 1.06 and that would solve the problem but it didn't. Does anyone have any tips that might allow me to install Vista??? Thx.
with an AOpen i975Xa-YDG mobo and a T7200,
what bios should I flash please ?
( ram is Crucial Tenth )
Sorry for digging up an old thread, I have a habit of being a year or so behind the current gen tech as I like bargains :D I have just brought an AOpen i975, now just waiting for my RAM to arrive to try it out.
I have a Celeron-M 420 to drop in and OC like mad, but the main reason for buying the board is to put my T7400 in and OC that.
Here is a screenshot of my T7400 on my AOpen i945, Is this stepping any good from peoples experience?
