IMO.. Theres not enough results on this to make a determination of which substrate is better yet or IF one is even better then the other.. We know from 'some' results here that the 408\434 seem to be good clockers.. but thats all ive seen from my reading..Quote:

Honestly, I am dissappointed in my chip. Is the 0550UPMW 434L variant and it doesnt want to do 2.6stable unless I up the voltage to 1.35v. By the way, what are stock volts on the DC? Mine auto'd @ 1.31v is that right? I have been hearing different things on what the default voltage is supposed to be. Also, I am looking into dumping my ABO Ultra-D and getting either a new AD0 Ultra-D or used Expert. What do you guys think? Which one would help increase my oc the most?
PS: Today I got to test out my dual-psu theory. The modstream 520 powering the cpu along and everything else on my 600w noisetaker netted me absolutely no stability gains. I am going to look for my max oc and then see if its the same for both psu's separately and then together, I have to for 30 days before I return it lol.
My 165 0551 UPMW at stock is 1.35v. In CPU-Z it always show less. Use A64MaxTCase temp to see. And I don't see you cpu bad, mine refuses 2650 even at 1.6v.. :mad:Quote:

I got my chip watercooled 2900mhz with 1,42v is small fft's stable, but this cpu really have a bs mem crtl!
285mhz is the max I can push my ballistix, I tried 7-8/auto as s7e9h3n suggested and it's win memtest error free up to 295mhz with those settings, but 3dmark and prime fails instantly, when the drive strength is anything else than 5 (cpu loves that value and mem hates it).
And no my ballistix isn't dying on me, have tested then with a different cpu.
Does anyone have a clue about what I could do?
is my nf3 board limiting my cpu?
is there a version which supports dualcores except the 1.9 and 1.b?

I do not have any screen shots yet buy I have a Opty 170: CCBWE 0550 UPMW 434L and I am currently running 100% stable dual SP2004 @2890 MHZ (AIR) TT Big Typhoon w/AS5 1.55v! I am testing 2900MHZ right now (having some trouble but a possibility)I have run 2900mhz OCCT stable and SP2004 for approx 4-6 then CPU 0 craps out buy CPU 1 is SP2004 Stable for over 24 hours @2900mhz. I am trying @ 1.6v now. CPU 0 stable at 4 hours right now.

heheh you were told wrong......you don't have to check or set affinity at all......just start up two of them and it will be 100% loaded................setting affinity in that program does nothing....if you want to see which core is failing you have to go to Task Manager and set affinity there not in that programQuote:

I have two Opteron 170s. I have a 0550 VPMW and also a 0550 UPMW. Both steppings are reported to be good clockers.
I got the VPMW first and right out of the box I managed to get it running at 2.8GHz (SPD timings for RAM) at a Vcore of 1.44v on the stock AMD HSF that comes in the box. This chip is F@H stable on both cores as well as stable for COD2 and FEAR.
I tried to run the VPMW under my Mach II GT but it wouldnt clock past 2.4GHz or 240HTT. So it has the cold bug :(
I bought the UPMW as I wanted to get hold of a chip that didnt have the cold bug.
Anyway I threw the chip in my rig under the stock AMD HSF and I couldnt get it past 2.4GHz for love nor money, and it wouldnt even boot to Win XP past 2.5GHz... I initially assumed it was a poor chip within the batch.
But then I started reading this thread and it was comments made by mag|c on Data and Drive strength that caught my eye. I read about his testing and I decided I had nothing to lose and tried his 5/1 recommendations..
WOW what a difference this made. Basically it cured all my stability issues and the UPMW now runs at exactly the same settings (2.8GHz) as the VPMW and is 24/7 stable for F@H and plays COD2 and FEAR not problems...
So a big thanks to mag|c for making his posts and let others know that it is worth fiddling about as even if you think you have taken the ram out of the equation to find max overclock by using a divider, it is not always the case. My ram runs 280FSB without any tweaking of the ram settings under the VPMW. My UPMW wont go past 2.4GHz on SPD settings even using a ram divider... But change the Data and Drive settings and BANG, problems solved, its like the chip has been given a new overclocking ceiling.

I'm curious as why people all of a sudden are looking at the date code stepping info now for cold-bug traits. Large Influence on Stability.
Suggested Settings for DFI: Many have suggested using Level 1 or 3, if you have CPC enabled. With CPC, anything above level 1 gives some users extreme instability. Some users like level 3 with CPC enabled. Some others have had success with using level 2-4 if CPC is disabled. I had good luck with CPC enabled and Level 4. (Higher = Faster)

IHS is off, pc case is fully closed, room temperature around 70'F with the heater on, I was playing BF2 for 6 hours straight last night without a hiccup as well. ;) For now I can't break 2.90Ghz unless I could find a way to lower the PWMIC, the massive heatload was killer and at one time I saw 78'C!! Fan blowing on the PWMIC area doesn't help? I ran my X2 with 1.6 volts dual priming and PWMIC never went over 50. I had an 80 directed at the PWMIC area. But now i know that the actual PWM IC chip isn't what gets hot, its the 3 mosfets, that's what you wanna aim the fan at.
Right now i'm running a single core so it doesn't get nearly as hot, but still 1.55v @ 3.1 Ghz PWMIC doesn't exceed 38c and mosfets don't even get warm to the touch.

terrordemon, with that particular BIOS the labels translates to the following values when compared to the other DFI NF4 BIOSes...
So when someone who is NOT running 704-2bta tells you that they're running a DRAM Drive Strength of 6, it means that for your BIOS you would have to select "Normal 3".Code:704-2bta - Every other DFI NF4 BIOS
Weak 1 = 1
Normal 1 = 2
Weak 2 = 3
Normal 2 = 4
Weak 3 = 5
Normal 3 = 6
Weak 4 = 7
Normal 4 = 8
As for what you should actually set them to, I would recommend setting both DRAM DS and Data DS to Auto for now and see what you get. I couldn't get past 2.6Ghz until I set them both to auto on my Opt 170. Good luck :)

Well, in that case it sounds like you've got no choice unless you test all the values out. Seeing as there's only 8 settings (at least for the DRAM DS, 4 for the Data DS) then it won't take long. Don't blame me, blame whatever it is that's stopping you OCing higher :D

Yea liquid helps. On my setup in my sig and my opty 170 ihs less my max load temps at 2.7ghz @ 1.4v is 29C w/ random jumps to 30C and drops to 27C.

I've read that altering the driving strength can help stabilize Oc's but my board doesn't have the same options. The options I have available are Drive strength (disabled or weak) and DATA drive strength (15%,30% or 45% weakened)...anyone recommend a setting please (running corsair 3500ll)?

Bios and windows setting 1.42vcore-core 0 failed after 14hours. Upped vcore to 1.4275 in bios(reported in windows as 1.44) left it overnight currently 16hrs+
Cannot get anything above 2.7 stable as yet without using excessive vcore and even then it wont go past a couple of hours. I think my memory settings are holding me back tbh. Currently using 2-3-2-6 on a 166 divider, tried slackening them a little to no avail. Its 3dmark 06,superPI32, S&m and game (BF2/FEAR/Farcry) stable @ 2.8 tho @1.42vcore.
Ic3man, have you tried giving your ram an extra 0.1v to see if that makes any difference?
Also, what mem timings did you try slackening them to?
Running the memory @2.8v already, don't want to kill them (well not yet!) reports are that 2.75 is the 'sweet spot' for this memory..although tbh I havn't really noticed a difference between 2.6-2.8.

There are plenty of other memory related settings on this A8n32 that I havn't played with that 'may' make a difference such as:
Async latency
Read Preamble
Drive Strength (disabled, weak)
Data Drive Strength (15%,25%,45%)
..to name a few.
One weird thing I have noticed is that I appear to be more stable running a 133 divider than a 100 divider:confused:
also the NB-SB divider is confusing me..do i need to set it to x5 (1000) regardless of overclock or do I need to match it to the LDT (x3 - 600) when running @275htt x 10.
Just noticed aswell that my 12v rail is drooping to 11.65 and then fluctuates between that and 11.71 as reported through PC probe. My vcore is also fluctuating, 1.42 (as set in bios) will sometimes jump to 1.44. New PSU (hiper R 580w), hope its not dying on me. Will this cause instability or is this normal?

The first two are measured in nano-seconds which means in order to "relax" these settings they should be increased. As for Drive Strength, is it just those two settings available (only disabled and weak)? There isn't a "strong" or "increased" option? If so, then try that.Quote:

Hmm if all those other stablity test are good at 1.42v@2800..seems there must be something to tweak to get Prime95 stable..if not I would argue that 2800 is stable at 1.42
it has to be a memory thing....if you use a 133 divider what ram settings are you using
try setting ram to 133, 3-3-3-10-2t, idle cycle limit 256...I know not fast setting

wonder if this would help to get things stable...I do not think 2700 is the wall if you can boot and run those other test at the low vcore and 2800..I would expect the cpu just needs a little help
actually, if it's a dfi board, it may be your board's pwm temps. u might have to cool the hot spots better. IMO though, if it games for hours on end, it's stable, no matter what any stress test says.Quote:

I'm on water, was using a weapon 302 core, a g5, and an iwaki md-20rzt. v-core was at 1.6v, 1.6 makes it game/prime/3d etc... stable 24/7. Could prob suicide shot higher but there's no point in that for me. I'll be using what's coming in my sig soon ;)Quote:

I would be thrilled and overjoyed to get 2800 on air at a reasonable vcore
