What are you mad about dude?? :D "I wonder who has tried to submit lhe results" doesnt mean anyone in particular it just means that prolly no one has ever run into that issue :D
Printable View
lhe would be a problem for most of the teams in the f1
the cost is just mad in the UK
and would be a very difficult problem to get around for us
I really don't see what the problem is with this LHe category ... if someone's mad enough to pay a couple of thousands euro just to have a couple of hours of fun (ehr lol), what's the problem.
What happens on Hwbot is unrelated to what happens in the F1 competition: if Nick says no LHe, then it's no LHe. No contracts have been signed or anything of that matter, so for all I know, Nick's using the Hwbot rules only because it's easier to write a complete new set of rules.
//edit: And is everyone forgetting that the current 1M world record is on LN2, not LHe ;) :p: :D
in our case it would be upto MSI if they wanted to cover the cost of this type of cooling
so will have to ask the question now
but i have a feeling i know there answer
maybe th f1 comp should just fix the max cooling to ln2 for this year
next year amd chips may not need lhe so it wont matter then
LN2 and LHe are two different things, so if LHe is getting more popular in cooling it's cool idea to add it, I can't see your problem :). You did good thing Massman.
[QUOTE=massman;3892647]The class has been added some time ago. Actually, it has been added ever since I knew the stock frequency was 2GHz.[QUOTE=massman]
So you feel its fair to bench these chips and submit 3d results?
This is disagree with.....
I know of all people how hard it is to find a good 6 gig +3d retail stamped chip review sample or not.
Granted we all earned the priveledge to get these chips but.....If we use them for the bot I feel it will shadow over others that may have hidden talent...
TWKR results shouldnt be uploaded, as they arent available to everyone, its impossible for 'normal' people to get them
sacha35 and Bazx,
Saying about the costs of LHe, I can understand where you are coming from, but the same can be applied to LN2 to some people
I mean, If I had the money, I would have started using it already, money is the only thing stopping me,
I agree about the F1 comp should be LN2 only for the first run as its in beta stage kinda,
But on hwbot, I think anything goes, as long as everyone can get it, which, they can (unlike a TWKR chip), although they may not be able to afford it, they could save up etc,
I mean, andre worked his way through I dunno how many cpuis to find his golden one, so it shows that retail can be just as good, and anyone can buy them.
So,
No TWKR on hwbot,
LHe results are ok, as theoretically its available to the public
But thats just me.
No problem really, its a personal choice what someone does with their results I guess when it comes to hwbot, but it actually makes a better case if it is officially accepted on hwbot because that makes more of a case for getting it in the F1 IMO. If anything, I would think it would be more appropriate in F1 than on hwbot.
I think F1 needs to let ANYTHING and EVERYTHING fly.
Ok I communicated what I wanted 2 here, but I think everyone already knows my views on some stuff :D.. too much derailment now. Great stuff to EVERYONE involved benchers or not. The 3d and 2d results are sick including the 7ghz screen shot. Sucks about the 06', but the results really are stellar so who cares
The pic with all you guys naked in the sauna that I keep hearing about (I refuse to look at it based on someones advice) is what needs some more explaining here :shakes:
There's nothing 'special' in that picture ... appart from a bunch of sweaty dudes ^^
So this thread has "SF3D OC Gathering Vol. 1 -Powered by AMD"
Makes me wonder what will be involved with "Vol. 2" can't wait to see :)
Guess Who? haha
On the other hand ... you were the one who really wanted to make a picture of all these sweaty naked men :D
Vince, what's the price of helium up there? Here in South Africa it seems to be about $30/l which is rough but I can live with it.
450L lasted around 2-3 hours, I think. A 'normal' price would be around €10 per liter, afaik.
This is my point exactly, $12,000.00 for one or two hours benching with LH2.
you guys cannot tell me you have the funds to run this stuff yourself as even the deepest pockets cannot afford to put this much cash into something for only one or two hours worth of enjoyment.
Only the supper rich can afford this outstanding cost, so at the end of the day it is the manufacture that can be the only one picking up the bill.
Where Ln2 is easy available to everyone at a reasonable cost making the playing field more even again rather than the supper supper rich or manufacture just showing who can buy outstanding results.
I know I will get flamed for what I have said, but I am not liking what is happening to this community, it should be a sport where everyone can compete on an even playing filed to see who is the best, not who has access to the very best hardware and cooling.
I think this is showing what things are to come and this sport will soon die a very fast death and reduce sales of hardware as the average or above average guy can just not afford to even try and compete anymore.
I am Sorry to take the limelight out of what you guys done as this is outstanding but this just had to be said.
we used a total of 300L (there was 100L left in the dewar when we returned it, this info comes from the gas company who measures the weight of the returned dewars).
massman's estimate on € / L is very close to the price we have in Finland (which is quite a bit higher than the price in the US or in Russia for instance).
we benched a total of 5-6 hours on LHe based on my rough estimate (the final 3D session w/ Sampsa & elmor was 2 - 2.5 hours alone)
Hydrogen != Helium ;)
It already happened. People making best scores are usually sposored, normal guy with avarge pocket surely haven't got money to spend it on 10 different motherboards or 20 CPU's to find the best one, LHe doesn't change a lot. Anyway, I think LHe won't get as popular as LN2 in the near future.
So, 300L for 5,5h of benching at 10€ per liter equals 3000€ per 5,5h or close to 600€ per hour.
To be honest, it's not thát bad. All you need to do is pre-test a dozen of chips on LN2 and use the best one for your single LHe session.
damn lhe is expensive >_< ...
but we like the results :D
5 hours is not bad, u can do a few runs
Kill one 975 and you lost more money ;)
to all you "masters of cold" here's warm recommendation! A must see documentary: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/zero/program.html
amazing movie, please watch it chapter-by-chapter, or find full (as highest as possible quality) movie... it's best two hours you can spend.
Hey man, did you suggest taking the picture because some of these guys were giving off some weird vibes beforehand and you figured you were safest BEHIND the camera?? That is the only excuse I will accept from you paisan! :D
I just started looking for lhe last week, I can get it for around 15usd per liter. Only thing that sucks is that it comes on a truck to my Ln2 place and based on the quality of the vessel + whenever they filled it originally, there can be loss. They said I still have to pay for "ordered amount" and not "delivered amount" Yah for sure I learned the more prep work you do on LN2 the better, have everything ready to go for your final runs when you run lhe.
Looks like these guys had it down like a machine and the results show it.
It's inspirational and giving me that twitch to run again.:D

On Saturday I started benching 3DMark Vantage with TWKR while other guests were having a small competition. I prepared a system with Asus M4N82 Deluxe (nForce 980a SLI) and two GeForce GTX 295 in Quad SLI. As I posted already earlier, I got P28426 in Vantage when CPU was running @ 5,7 GHz and GFX @ 700/1600/1235 MHz. This motherboard didn't seem to work very well under LN2. I had huge issues running NB above 3 GHz, HT ref. clock wasn't working very well above 215 MHz and vcore worked very strange above 1,65V. Anyway, I managed to run Vantage CPU-tests @ 5,9 GHz and even @ 6,0 GHz but when I was taking screenshot the system suddenly shut down and mobo + TWKR CPU died..

http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/twkr6.jpg
On Sunday elmor & me started testing another TWKR CPU with Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P. Northbridge was ok up to 4,4 GHz and we ran 3DMark05 & 3DMark06 @ 6160 MHz. Running whole tests @ +6,2 GHz was problematic although CPU seemed to scale pretty well with vcore. We used 1,8 - 1,95V in our tests. Two ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 were running at pretty low clocks (787/900 MHz):

3DMark05: 46843
http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/twkr_3dm06.jpg
3DMark06: 34916
After these tests we were done with TWKR and started preparing our system for liquid helium.
After we sacrificed a chip and board to the OC gods it seemed we got a good one. We used one of my duds just to be safe.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...0&postcount=66
Nice TWKR results elmor and Sampsa. :D Sorry about the chip's death, looked like a nice sample.
I'm sort of curious though, about the configuration choice for the record-setting rig. Why not 4890's, especially with SF3D's new BIOS fix?
We ran out of time. First time I could test 4890 under LN2 was thursday night and the event started on Friday.
We just have to check few more things, before we will start using those cards. This "fix" bios might also be delayed a bit :( Sorry!
Well.. I have seen some talk about bios modifying in 3D section, so maybe people don't have to wait this one
Your liquid costs a pretty penny... In Estonia I/we get LN2 ~5-6EEK per liter.(1EUR=15,6EEK)
Research says that it's close to zero.(Shops that sell LHe)
But if it's urgently needed, we can always come to Finland, it's not very hard.:D
I get LN2 ~0,30€/L and it comes from Finland (AGA/Linde Gas).
I once asked and LHe is possible also, but only a proper amount because it's delivered from Finland also. Price around 10-15€/L...
But this is "end-user" price so there has to be some cheaper way for LHe.
Sampsa, who is Your LHe dealer?
Liquid helium comes from AGA. There is also company called Woikoski in here, who have Lhe, but the price is higher.
i get ln2 1.5€/L, and for liqudi helium the price is about 20€/L
Nice benching session you guys.... ;)
Next time please organise it in Greece so to rip off some of the "Mr who's" resaults... ;)
It's all about trying to get nice deals. I'm switching companies for my LN2 and now I go from ~ 3€ per liter to 0.7€ per liter.
Thanks George!
You were on my invitation list in the beginning, but then I thought you would not be able to make it. It is a shame.. would have been nice in any way.
Well.. The efficiency is the key here and we have to do our best to compete this guy, who ever he is  Clockspeeds might got a little boost as well in the near future ;)
Few words about the price of LHe.
It is totally unnecessary to talk about it. Think about it this way; In Finland you will have to pay 158€ / 20L of LN2. That is the list price for consumers like me. Take 40L and you paid over 300€ .. 80L and 600€. In a year you will use definitely more money to liguid nitrogen than to LHe even if you pay one session by yourself.
LHe is the ultimate element in benching. First you bench hundreds of hours on LN2 and when everything is ready, you will try to do your best with the coolest stuff you can get.
I do understand what most of you mean here, but I also see how cheap LN2 is for you. Stop complaining, if you can get LN2 almost for free. Come here and pay my price :D
Here is the crew!
This group is very powerful, while they are gathered together. Watch out, they might strike again

nice assembly of big guns :)
great scores people ... so whats next up ... i just cant understand even past 6ghz and still superpi is not under 10sec ... what could be the reason???? where as i7 at some insane speeds like 5g plus gives under 7sec even!!!

You guys will probably hate me, but I got LN2 @ $0.50 per Liter over here. For my bench party 180L dewar+delivery+ln2 came to about $110 ;)
I wonder what happent to that 2k6 (38227) score which was uploded to ORB?...

It just dissapeared?...

master mind behind this couldn't be any further from the truth as it appeared unfortunately.... I was just making an unfortunate wording mishap...was just teasing you guys - sorry., the perceived master mind never ever had anything to do with this - just me being a clown! Only after a friend told me what most people were thinking, did I realize how retarded it sounded!
Awesome results - wish I was there!!!
Mike
PS - NO I am not using one of drwho?'s CPU
ooops forgot to publish this one to take #4

don't try to make any sense of me - I can be a clown sometimes without any sense nor sensibilty...
Was hoping for your guys to beat my 05 - no backups there - but wanna be tempted to bench 05 again!
But I expect HIPro5 with his gem to shatter everything within days from now...I doubt too many peeps will be able to fend off his assault!!!
one more screenshot from LHe 3D-tests, imagine the frustration.. ARGH!

why didn't you nudge the mouse for that one point more :)
You guys did one heck of a job there.
Didn't Massman drink too much at the gathering ? It seems he gained some weight :p
We got 50017.. but 9 more mouse nudges short of WR :D

it would make sense to me that you would try this bench as you were setup to run with the best chip and lhe
as it would give you an idea of what was possible
.
Ahh..that makes sense. Lhe results are not comparable to LN2, so maybe it was good, that we did not test it.
Lhe should not be used in that contest. I think we all agree on that.
ok thanks so you do not think LHe will be used after all in the F1
.
Hmm, I've done a fair bit of asking around on this. I've already told some people that it's fine if they want. Getting rid of it because of costing and the like isn't really in the spirit of F1 but at the same time, there's no point having a benchmark where only a couple of people are competitive.
THe thing that's REALLY nailed it for me is the danger element. LHe is very dangerous indeed. Not so much because it's cold, but because of the air displacement. I've seen a lot of pictures of a lot of labs and I don't want any suffocating when all the air is sucked out of their lab when spilled. That alone is reason not to have it, frankly.
Maybe one day when all competitors have shown that they can easily access it and handle it. Most 'regular' people have their doubts about Health and Safety and LN2. But all top competition overclockers have mastered that.
So it's a NO to LHe.
i drink ln2 for breakfast
I have to say, that this logic fails big time. You have a 39K result and you will not publish it
I respect you a lot and you are very nice guy, but I am very disappointed to see you playing like this. Mike, what the hell is going on?
I just don't understand
P.S I would like to see you post screenshots with all details visible and some tweaks explained in to some new thread. I think we all deserve to see those monster scores. Thanks! I know there is no problem for you to do that
lol how exactly does that differ from you and vince playing backup games in 3DMARK01 recently
it's the same thing no?
Kingpin and SF3D were posting WRs after each other. Now look at this:
http://www.futuremark.com/community/...fame/3dmark06/
It would make sense if Andre would have some backups but not the guy who is currently 5th. Yes, no?
Mike's plan is to join HWBOT right up the top from what i can see
not in the mid pack
maybe he's still not too happy with efficiency i dont know
i think he will explode with the scores when he's ready
we've seen others do that. i know hipro has done that before....put up some monster results in a million categories after a month of benching
why are you guys getting your knickers in a twist
it's his choice
how does that lessen the man as an OCer
who says he doesnt have aspirations to join HWBOT?
lol i'm losing it, that doesnt sound right
what i'm saying is why the heck would Petri be upset/dissapointed with him...i dont see a big deal
