Its an hour drive to my local Fry's but we will be up that way later this week.
If you're assured you can choose the one you want, I'd take my chances at fry's and wait.
Some success here :D

I went to Fry's (and was allowed to pick the batch and week i wanted) but all they had was:
CACYC AC 0923EPMW
I will test it tonight after work and see if it unlocks in my MA790X-UD4P
I know i figured i could take a hit for the good of XS. The CPU makes it yay, if not drop it in my wife's pc and beg her to let me buy another one from newegg.
*edit* I did a google search for "0923EPMW" and "0923 EPMW" and was unable to find anything at all about this CPU.

I might need to look into why it wont stay stable. I have gave it 1.4v and it will boot into Windows and run basic apps for awhile but any heavy tests like 3Dmark cause it to blue screen. Memory is running at SPD timings for 1066 and 2.0v
Same thing happened to me when dropping from 1600 to 1333. Memory timings are such a pain. Congrats on the unlock though. It feels good doesn't it?
yes it feels like im sticking it to da man
It should do 3.5/3.6 with Stock CPUvcore(or small +). X4mode
On this Mobo you should Run +200 NBvid .. Even when running STOCK NB.. It hleps with ram a lot ..
Even with mine its unstable past 3.6ghz unless i ADD +100-+200 to NBvid with stock Vcore and NB@ 2000- 2600mhz:D
So if its buggy with the ram setting to 1066 i can almost ganrentee its the NBvid.
I had tested with Stock cooling before putting it under water:D. +100nbvid makes abig differance in what it will do with Stock Vcore and Ram.
Yeah I did some testing today. But I haven't had time to really push it. So your saying bump up the NBvid just a bit and try it at 1066? the ram is at stock settings I haven't really tried to push it. I just wanted to make sure all the cores were stable after unlocked.
Yes,, providing your using 1066 ram,, make shure it runs in 1066mhz mode:D
I have seen some chips not run higher than 900mhz on ram because of IMC or not enuff NBvidvolts.
My 550 will push my ram higher using 800divider vs 1066divider .
When im above 3900mhz it dosnt like Ram@1175mhz ram while Ocing with 1066divider but works fine on the 800 divider @ 1175mhz..when im raising the HTT.
just tweak it one step at a time.
Im going to push the CPU and then find what it can do then worry about the memory last.
I got mine 0924FPMW, no idea yet how will work, have to wait to return to my home to test it.
Will try on a M3A79-T deluxe with 0803 bios

Hey guys !!! :welcome:
i have the choice between 2 motherboards : Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H or DFI LANPARTY JR 790GX-M2RS
which is the best for overclocking and unlockung Phenom2 720BE and 550BE ?
i have an Asus M4A78-E but i find this motherboard is very crapy for unlocking cores or overclocking. I cannot unlock my 720BE and the 550BE. The step of the 720BE is 0904DPMW and the 550BE is 0919EPMW. I tried the 0082 bios and the last 1204 without chance.
(sorry for my poor english) :(
je prendrai la gigabytes sans hésiter, le débloquage des cores a été éprouvé dessus ;)
Par contre le 550be pas sur qu'il soit délockable , sur ce stepping ya eu des échecs, j'en ai eu un aussi .
what about that

edit : i made my choice : i'll buy the gigabyte !
at the moment my X2 550BE 0919 EMPW and my X3 720BE 0904 DPMW won't unlock on my ASUS M4A78-E. If I enable the ACC, the motherboard reboot and don't post
Has anyone had success with the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H? The Rev 2.0 is supposed to have sb710. But i dont know if the bios is capable.
Here is my overclock, its not stable I didn't even touch the voltages and I was able to boot into Windows with the magical 4Ghz all on air.
http://www.geocities.com/johnvuong2000/amdoverclock.jpg
For some reason I cannot set the multiplier higher than 19. Must be my motherboard I suppose. I tried unlocking the 2 other cores but it doesn't work, it either won't post or I cannot go past the boot screen. But whatever, I don't really care.
Don't see any pics Chrono
My 720/550 do the same thing on my M3A79-T with Modded Bios and wont even work with any stock Bios by ASUS.
My UD4P Unlocks both flawless with STOCK BIOS F5....
Id say the Mobo has to do alot with what works and what dosnt... Gigabyte has the best success so far .Even there low line UD3 unlocked both of mine too when tested for a friend while he waits for a new 550.
I have a 790Gp-UD4H, and while I still haven't gotten around to doing some solid OC'ing, it's a nice board. =]
I finally went and took off my heatsink the other day to take a look, and guess what I found?

It's a 0920GPMW! Boy do I feel lucky. I'm only the second person to have a 0920GPMW to successfully unlock.
sorry for the french parenthese :p:
by the wat C-buzz you didn't correct the mistake about the stepping on the 1st page :)
The screenshot is on my post, you can't see it?
I only wanted to see if I can successfully boot into Windows without touching the voltages and I was surprised to see it did. It was "stable" until I ran IBT, though I knew it was going to fail but I wanted to see how long it would last. I will increase the voltages later.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-M720-UD3, some budget board that cost me like $98, and I just overclocked this yesterday.
Well, then i´m the third one here ;)

It´s hard to overclock on that board because of the voltage instabilities
0922APMW - successfully unlocked to 4 cores stable, Biostar 790GX XE
0923APMW - successfully unlocked to 4 cores but only 3 cores stable, Biostar 790GX XE
I wonder how many of those who failed to get 4 cores stable have tried running their chip as a tri-core ie. x3, it's plenty fast still.
My early UVOC attempts, not finalisd results cos yet to fully tweak the NB speeds.
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...NB2000_5xL.png
To the BIOS, once unlocked it is ID-ed as a quad with a disabled core - x3 when running as reported by CPU-Z. :D
For my 790GX XE mobo, the onboard sensor seems pretty close enough to the onchip sensor,
http://forums.vr-zone.com/overclocki...ml#post6953511
Check the Bios version you are using ,, I recomend the Most recent from Gigabyte for UD3 and UD5..Check the Default CPUvcor as it should be 1.35v NOT 1.3v or 1.26v..Disable CnQ too or you may have problems with Default volts when enabling X4cores.
UD4P the F5 is best for unlocking X2 550 ATM.
Make shure to Set the ACC mode to Hybrid and use the Auto ACC function ..Also set to stock Multis when you do this for the first time so it will enable all cores .. The UD3 does unlock them in Hybrid Mode under ACC setting for Firmware(Auto ACC suggested).
Note :
AS for The X2 550 being a 3core that means usually you have a Downcore option enabled or are not using ACC auto with Hybrid and could be using a older outdated Bios.Check to make shure you are using Most recent Bios. You should also make shure the NBvid is set to +100 for fourcores to help the IMC..
This will set the NBvid to 1.2volts instead of default 1.1v which is way to low. When overclocking fourcores @ 3400+ and stock volts on CPUvcore or VID.
Here are some screens all with my Mobos Default of 1.35cpvid(default volts) and NBvid @ 1.2v not 1.1v..this should be set for UD3/ Ud4 /UD5mobos regardless of DDR2/DDR3 as i have tested this for a friends setup as well.
NBvid is 1.1volts i found this to be too low when i went to 3500mhz and only 2200nb
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...4P_F5Abios.jpg
NBvid @ 1.2volts with Stock Vcore or CPUvid
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...ts_3500mhz.jpg
NBvid @ 1.2volts with Stock Vcore or CPUvid
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...ts_3800mhz.jpg
NBvid @ 1.3volts with (CPUvid set to 1.45volts)
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...lt_3900mhz.jpg
I recomend 1.2 NBvid as the lowest to run when in foucore Mode and even as an X2core. I found that @ 1.1nbvid it would be unstable past 3550mhz unless i used 1.2volts on the NBvid..
Note: all runs are with the NB set to 2200mhz @ above CPUvid's in screenshots...It is very consistant volt wise in X4 and X2 mode .
Im using Water,,
Air you may need slightly more CpuVcore and or NBvid for same results...Bump the volts slowly since these Cpu's dont need Xtreme volts ,Unless your going supercooled keep the Volts minamal @ 1.2NBvid for under 2400mhz NB or More for Higher NBmhz. It works the same for UD3/UD4/UD5 ... Its simply what the CPU wants...Default voltages are only good up to 3500mhz on average for X2 550's ATM with Air or Water.
Have fun ,,

Hello AMD boys :D
good news but at first the story of my Phenom 2 X2 550 0919 EPMW :
Motherboard : ASUS M4A78-E DDR2 790GX & SB750
Original bios : 0711 ..... unlocking : failed (black screen and reboot again, again and again .... when ACC is enable) :(
Bios 0082 modded : unlocking failed (when ACC is enabled, it's the same like 0711)
other try with bios from ASUS give me the same results : no boot
Bios 1204 : unlocking failed (when ACC is enabled, it's the same thing like 0711)
last try : bios 1210 (the last on line), I put the multiplier on 10, raise the vcore @ 1.50v but decrease the HTLink to 1600 MHz). I enable the "special" "unleashingé mode with ACC and try a boot.
Hmmmmm the PC boot but i have not see the post. Arrived under Vista, a little CTRL + ALT + DEL and i see ........... 4 active cores
A big YES !!!! I'm not sure : it's the last bios or the HT Link set to 1600 MHz but there are now 4 active cores.
I try 3200 MHz with 1.50v and it's stable. Maybe i can decrease the vcore but i'am now interresting to overclock my new quad core that cost me 85 €uro!
Sorry for possible mistakes, my english is a little poor

i'm waiting for my gigabyte to overclock from zero my X2 550 BE with all core enabled. :)
I think 3400 MHz is possible with 1.35v but if i want to go higher for example 3600 MHz i need 1.45v at least.
With 2 cores i can overclock 3780 Mhz but with a vcore of 1.50v. Temps are good because not over 50° with my Zalman 9700. See you soon probably this week to give you informations of my overclocking

I'll give a try tomorrow on 790FXT-UD5P :)
Looks like Cele303 successfully unlocked their 0925APMW chip. I imagine you shouldn't have too much trouble either.
I'll be getting mine tomorrow. Not sure what stepping I'll get since it's in the mail but I'll be sure to report back with results later. :)
you guys think a 955 with the same stepping as the 550's is the same chip except with the 2 cores disabled? i just got a 955, 0919 epmw which there is a ton of 550's with the same stepping...
I'll be really interested to see your results!
They all came from the same batch so you would think the 955 was binned higher for a reason... ;)
I've actually been waiting to see some results from newer high clocked quads. If it outperforms the X2 550's you should have a sweet chip on your hands.
Keep us posted!
ya ill let you know how it does, i ordered up the gd70/955 combo from the egg for $315 and got the ocz gold amd 1600mhz ram... i was askin cause i saw somewhere else someone say that batch for 550's was good and saw someone on here with their 550 with same stepping priming as an x4 at 3.7xx ghz 1.35v thought it was pretty good.. i got a ton of school work to do the next couple days but hopefully sometime next week ill get to do some real tweaking
Ahh yeah ok IC now  The AC in front of the stepping made me confused :welcome:

this thread is a must , thanks C-Buzz.
Now everyone can choose what to take.
Honnestly, in my country the "best" stepping i could find is a 0919EPMW , i don't know what to do :p:
Hi Guy's !
my new Gigabyte MA-790GP-UD4H works fine. The last bios F3 was flashed but i have a little trouble : when i increase the CPU/NB Vid to 1.20v instead of standard 1.1v, the motherboard don't increase the vid. AMD Overdrive tool and Everest Ultimate confirm this.
Another question for overclockers : how do you do to overclock an unlocked X2 550BE to 3.7 GHz with 1.35v (the standard vid). My 0919 EPMW is unstable OCCT at 3.55 GHz with a so vid  I'm a new overclocker in AMD's world but my E3110 C0 works fine at 4.25 GHz @ 1.32v :D
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7...nlockworks.jpg
Stepping is 0924BPMW. Looks like this stepping and board is a winning combo as Rezag1000 was also able to unlock his. :)
I also tried this chip on my ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe with BIOS 0803. I was able to get the board to recognize it as a quad core and even booted into Windows but it locked up instantly when all four cores were loaded using Prime or IBT. Also didn't work with only three cores active either. Didn't work at all with 0905.

Ive got a 550 incomming to. But i cant decide on the motherboard. I have a Gigabyte 790X-UD4 atm but im thinking of going am3 with a asus 785G something motherboard. Or what motherboard should i go for to have the best chance to unlock it to a quad?
Gigabyte !
Gigabyte seems to be the best unlocker so far.
ASUS is ok, and MSI seems to be struggling with releasing a good BIOS.
If you want a cheap as possible board go for the new AM3(DDR3) 770+SB710 motherboards from Gigabyte or MSI.
Snowman89: FWIW man, The GBT 790XT-UD4P (DDR3 board) unlocked my 720BE and the 550BE, and clocks the snot out of both of them!!
I'm sure you have a bad taste in your mouth conserning GBT...
I actually swore off of them after the DS5 and S2H boards, and I've seen alot of people having the same problems using the UD4's that I had with those earlier boards....
I personally think you'd be really happy with a UD4P, it's a whole new animal and it seems like GBT learned from their earlier mistakes!
If your really against going the Gigabyte route again, most folks have had good luck with the BioStar boards for unlocking...
Yeah the Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P and MA790XT-UD4P are awesome boards
BOO !!
I just ordered myself a x2 550 and a Asus M4A78!
If only i had checked this place first :p i could have put another couple of pounds on and bought one of those gigabyte boards, I didn't think anything about unlocking cores when i was browsing boards lol

But wanted to ask, is there any tool to change memtimings in win, like MemTest?
And, what do You recommend for stability testing? Prime, Orthos, OCCT, some other?
Also, what soft to use for CPU temp measuring? I get different strange results with coretemp, hwmonitor etc. And ET6 doesn't seem to refresh temp. It's not possible, that temp doesn't change under load. I use HR-01 Plus with 60CMF 120mm fan...
