Nice VID... so was this screenshot taken when all 4 cores were fully loaded and none of them was idle? Some CoreTemp versions would show dynamic VID states so their values might depend on the load.
Printable View
that was taken right after i used dvd-rebuilder. it wasnt underload. plus my ambient temp in the house was about 82f and where i have my system it is under a desk so it is a little warmer under there. have had the AC off the pass couple days its been nice and cool here. any ways.lol
that was at idle i can check it again tonight underload and see what it says. i do have it now running 3.0ghz small oc for now being new and all. leave it there for 24hr and in the morning i will bump it up to 3.2ghz i did notice all my settings are still in auto but with the little OC, underload the vcore has dropped from 1.210v to 1.185v is this normal? iknow of vdroooop with these gigabyte boards i had t oset my E8400 to like 1.365v and it would drop to like 1.265v. but i thought taht was a wolfdale thing???
Got this one today its on a crappy DS3 P35 motherboard I had laying around for crunching, air cooling, and does not seem to want to go over 440 on this board, it is batch L844B610.

Sense me and My friend CincyRob are neighbors and compare notes :yepp:
I almost missed the bus with my results at 3.5Ghz's on a old P35 board:up:
Well my Results are in on this Old Board p35c I'm kinda glad kept it around for a backup board...I wanted to check it first to see what it would do, nothing added all at auto setting running 64 bit Xp Pro Tests where done on External case was not included...lol nexts week its the I45 turn to see it act with the Quad Jumper...Pics to follow

all said and done the Q9550 is back in the box resting waiting on
the next test with I45 hoping to do well:)
Have Fun
Building:)
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...b/37ghzIBT.png
took it up again.
vcore in bios set at1.275v actuall during stressing 1.18-1.232v so still very love on vcore plenty of room for more when needed.
pretty low vidders there :) Have fun, both of you
ok im at the point my mem is holding me back. these crucial ballistix ddr2 800 isnt gonna take much more OC. anyone got any suggestions on some good mem to run on my mobo(GA-EP45-DS3R) DONT LAUGH i know its a crap board. i just had to have the first P45 gigabyte board when it came out..lol in a month or so i will be stepping into a ASUS P5Q Deluxe. so any ideas on some good mem to help me get to 4.0+???
Was looking through some ss's I had saved. I love this 9550. Best CPU I have owned I believe.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7353/955011.png
that's a great chip OC Nub! :)
Thank you.
im useing the 333mhz strapping and the 2.00d.
im not to sure i want another gigabyte board. ive had 4 of them and have had nothing but problems with them. i think it might be time i give another manufacture a shot..lol
my mem now is runnng at 872mhz. i dont think it could handle 900mhz for any amount of time. i hav eno faith in these crucial ballistix ddr2 800 i have RMA'd them 3 times
Im sorry, but its a 2gb kit or a 4gb kit?
If its a 2gb kit are double sided? (check the number after the dot that I mark in the picture, starts with 16 or 8?)

2 gig kit and single sided
these look good right now too! :)

Thank you monza.
well i tried it at 4.0===no go
tried it at 3.83======no go
back at 3.7ghz just fine. my mem cant handle 902mhz at 3.83ghz it would load windows but as soon as i tried to stress test it, it would fail and shut down.
so in due time i will be getting me some 1066 mem.
well i am running it now at 3.7ghz with a vcore of 1.18-1.20v.
that combo you got there id say you will be able to get 4.0 out of it easy. thats if you have some good 1066 mem. i cant go no higher cause of my ddr2 800 mem cant run any higher than 880mhz
that I45 T-power board should serve you well with this chip. a friend of mine here got the same one and he has the I45 board also and has had it up to 3.9ghz stable. but he has 1066 mem too.
My memory is rated to 1100MHz and I have run it there with 5-5-5-15 timings. It does take 2.4V to do it though (which is what OCZ specifies and warranties :-)
I picked up this Biostar board for $65 shipped on eBay (wasn't expecting to win it, just a random bid). It doesn't have 8 phase power like my P5Q-Pro board but hopefully since this is a 45nm chip that will be less of an issue. I did find that I could OC a Q6600 better on the P5Q-Pro than on the I45 and I attribute that to better power regulation.
I am tempted to move the P5Q-Pro over to this machine to use with the 9550 but it is watercooled right now so putting back the NB heatsink and all the hassles probably aren't worth it. I'll see what I can do with the I45. I was able to get one of my Q6600's to 450X8=3.6GHz on the I45 but it took 1.44V to do it and the Vendetta 2 struggles to keep the cores under 60C. I have an E8400 and E8200 in other machines but I don't aggressively OC them (3.6GHz) since I try to keep the Vcore below 1.375V on those 45nm chips.
I think that I will do the same with this Q9550... try to limit Vcore to about 1.35V +/-.
Once I have some results I will post them back in this thread so we can see how two chips from the same batch compare.
:D
you wont have any problem keeping the vcore down on this chip. 1.365v you shouldnt see unless your trying to get it to 5.0ghz..lol you will be happy with this chip very low vid on it.
letme ask you about the OCZ Vendetta 2 you have. you asy your haven heating issues with it?
if you look at some of my recent post it shows the temps in there somewhere look at them and see if they are close to what you are getting.. i think the vendetta is doing a great job for me. im running at 3.7ghz now and on my E8400 i had it at 3.4ghz and had the same temps aor a little higher with the artic cooler freezer 7 pro
that will be good. try this try that thing..im still learning this stuff so any info is great for me.. and if i can help out any thats a plus for all..lmaoQuote:
Once I have some results I will post them back in this thread so we can see how two chips from the same batch compare.
Thanks for that. My philosophy on OC is to find the edges of what can be achieved and then balance that with what I consider a reasonable 24/7 operating voltage/temperature. So I "may" get up to 1.35V just to see how high I can OC but this is not on my watercooled rig so temps will be my limiting factor I think.
I actually own 3 Vendettas (2 of the original 92mm ones and the 120mm version). I personally think they are one of the best performance per $$$ heatsinks going.
My Vendetta 2 I actually lapped to get the heatpipes silky smooth and I also bought the bolt down kit from OCZ to get good CPU contact. I also lapped the Q6600 that it was sitting on and used MX2 paste. And the end result of all that work.... about 1 or 2 degC. Oh well it was worth it just to see my wife's face as I sanded my processor and heatsink on her granite counter top :yepp:
No doubt the Vendetta is a gem for the money.
See some realy nice clock's here ! I just received a Q9550 and P5Q delx. from newegg . Was abit surprized / disapointed that i received a c1 ...SLAWQ ... Guess i should have check around first . From what i see here i should probly look for a E0..... Anyone no who has them in stock in the US ? or still hit and mis ???
Subsider
go here. send that one back to newegg and save yourself $80

100%EO steppings there. free shipping to i think.i got mine from there as the friend i was talking about above. they have about 50 of them right now
i would say your vid will be 1.140-1.165
thats the range ive seen on this batch#
That would be very good news indeed. Although I have seen posts suggesting that low VID can translate to hotter running chips at higher voltages??? That low VID is great for running stock at very low Vcore (and thus very cool) but that higher VID devices run cooler when you get into higher voltages (and overclocks).
Not sure why that would be the case. Will have to Google it.
kinda half empty half full theroy. lol
the lower vids have been able to get higher OC's with less volts. thats the way im looking at it. on my E8400 i had to go as high as 1.40v to get it stable at 4.1ghz. i didnt keep it there but thats alot of volts i think plus it was a HOT sob...lol about 3.83ghz is where i would like to run 24/7 once i get my 1066 mem and a better mobo. sure im like everyone else i want that elussive 4.0-4.2ghz OC but i cant and wont run it there 24/7
Shoot at 3.6ghz im getting 66,832 mips out of it. that is awesome i think sandra is a great benching tool..lol
I'm with you there. OC for high benches is a fun challenge but I almost always back it off to lower voltage and lower temps for 24/7. To be honest I can't really justify a quadcore for the way I use the machine (gaming, video encoding (using the GPU not the CPU), folding). I just like the challenge and staying just far enough off the leading edge to avoid going broke :-)
That E8400 must have been E0 stepping. I couldn't get my E8400/E8200 C0 stepping past 3.8GHz even with over 1.45V. Just hit a wall....
no my E8400 was CO stepping also i had it running 4.1ghz for about 48 hrs. i didnt like the near 67c temps i was getting so i backed it down to 3.6 and left it.
no a friend of mine got the EO E8400 and he has had it up to 4.5ghz on air. and running at 4.1ghz daily. but he has gotten the Q9550 as well now...
gonna shoot ya a pm dont want to go off topic here
Finally Recive My New Q9550 With L837A935 Batch Number But SLB8V
What Diffrent BTW SLB8V And 9V???
Any1 Have Look Like Mine For Sharing Resualt?
:(
Bad News For Me :D This Q9550 Look Like Old Q9550 Not Stable Over 500 FSB With Nomral Voltage (1.5 Example)
Arghhhhhh I'm Going To Change Mobo To Giga
Go for giga ViViD
Then you can have some 500+ fun at 8,5 though its not a 9550 its on 8,5 multi

well im glad to see someone recomend gigabyte boards for these Quads. but i think my GA-EP45-DS3R is holding me back..... maybe its just he DS3R board that isnt all that good.
heck i think at my microcenter i can get the UD3R for $99 and the UD3P for $129 after 20 MIR
Have mine currently running at 3.8ghz (8.5x450), 1.200 vid chip, batch no: L844C01.
vcore, 1.21875 in bios, 1.200 idle, 1.208 load
pll, 1.54
vtt, 1.26
nb, 1.26
vdimm, 2.02
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...ghzocLarge.jpg
The above settings were tested with small fft for 4 hours or so without issue, im gonna let it run for 8 hours or more just to be sure, if stable enough ill try a run at 4ghz.
and another P5Q Deluxe with some great numbers....lol
im so confussed as to what board to get. im not trying to start any mobo wars they both are great boards/companys. i just cant deside on which one to go with.. ive had very little luck with the gigabyte boards..... just me though
Ive heard a lot of good things about the gigabytes as well, this p5q deluxe was a rushed buy at the time i got it, due to my evga 680i packing in (good job in the end) i rushed out and got it after reading a few quick reviews, finding it a bit harder to oc with the q9550 than with my previous q6600, gonna have to look into GTL reference settings if i want to push it any higher.
i like honesty from someone that has something i like/want and pushes towards the other side..lol thats what makes this site so great. people giving there thoughts and input on what they have delt with and not from hear say. i guess im just gonna have to bite the built and choose the UD3P or P5Q Deluxe.
guess i should post that in the mobo thread..lol sorry all
cincyrob,
I just picked up that exact same batch you have
Coincidentially, I also have single sided 4x1gb crucial ballistix 800mhz. these really suck in comparison to the double sided ones I had prior to their death (they did 1GHZ @4-4-4-12 2.1v)
Coincidentially..(X2), I have the UD3P board everyone raves about ;)
I havent popped my q9550 in yet since my UPS battery died, and I am waiting on new ones which should be in by next wednesday. Although, like you, I feel these sticks will choke down my processor and keep me from making any progress
PS: Just throwing this out there to anyone who wants a handpicked E0. I am heading down to boston tomorrow (and next tuesday) to drop off my car for service. Would anyone like me to pick up a E0 for them at the local microcenter? currently going for ~180 after tax, and I believe they are still carrying the L846B715's. PM me if youre interested :)

i'm not gonna hold it here at 3.9 after all is back together lock it at 3.4 that's good enough!!! another thing core 1 and 2 run at 31c and 3 and 4 26c at idle temps out the case different story once it get inside the case with more fans blowing:yepp:
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/1...bridgecool.jpg
Just installed this and I have a VID of 1.1000 :yepp:
I feel like I just won a lottery. I am just prime95 small fft at stock now to see what the temps are. My Biostar I45 is giving it 1.184V under load. I'll report back with more numbers when I get a chance to OC.
what is the best soft between prime95 and Linx (or Intel Burn Test) to check the CPU stability ?
Damn, looks like Im out of luck :shakes:
Got my Q9550 E0 with batch of L845B612, i hope B will still be good (all my Bs have been nice), but it have very high VID for E0, its 1.2750v  All my best Q6600s have 1.2750 or 1.2625v, lets hope it will shine :ROTF:
BTW Im on my P35 P5K-E with 1305 BIOS, with Q6600 I can get ~ 480 FSB with 8x. Hope it will take faar and pas 4+ Ghz.
Well that was fast. I went for the hail mary pass into the end zone and got 475X8.5=4.05GHz @ 1.3V. My temps on core 1 seem out of whack (8C hotter than core 2) so I might need to reseat my heatsink. That is a pain because I have the bolt down kit and I have to remove the motherboard to do it properly.
Maybe I need to lap this puppy....
I thought I could attach images directly but looks like I have to host them somewhere. Will post images when I get that sorted out.
It's almost impossible that all cores have the same temps.
My Q6600's cores were always within a few degrees of one another under Prime95 small FFT's. It is a pretty balanced application. It is possible that the IHS on this particular chip isn't making even contact with all the cores. I hope not to have to reseat this. It is a PITA.
Can a CPU need more volts after some years of use ?
I hope that is what it is. I thought the issue on the 45nm quads was stuck sensors though? That shows up when you drop in temp and one of the sensors doesn't go down to ambient (still reads high). That doesn;t seem to be the way mine is behaving.
I am going to try the stuck sensor test built into RealTemp and see what it says.
Yours may be different but I have had this same issue on several 45nm quads. I don't even look at the cores anymore, just CPU temp. I have reseated the HS before, on this reseated the waterblock but same results. On my other q9650 I lapped the chip and the TRUE and was able to even them out a bit but never perfect. Look at maximum temps in RealTemp in this SS, it is not just at idle.
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7099/sensors.png
So you are seeing about 6C difference as well. I like that answer because it means I'm not tearing apart my setup to reseat the heatsink :)
I have sort of an internal gut feel that I don't like to see my cores over about 65C max with Prime95 small FFT. What sort of max temp do you reckon for CPU temp? I assume CPU temp is a calculation done by the motherboard to approximate the IHS case temp?
I rather think C1E and Speedstep are enabled, lowering the Vcore.
I didn't know there was a range of VID??? I thought it was just one value.
My computer is just running an installation of Win7 RC at the moment. I will have a look at RealTemp and see what you are asking for. I just click the upper right button cycling through the items until it displays VID. It only seemed to show 1.1000V as far as I can remember.
I have strange temps too, I have disabled all speedsteps, but idle temps ar the same all time @ 2.83 Ghz or @ 3.8 Ghz, 38/35/35/40, load temps with Intel Burn test is max 53/53/53/53, strange CPU. I have good watercooling oc CPU.
My stock voltage is 1.275v, with it looks like I can burn till 3,7+ and more Ghz, but when I get ~ 450 FSB it freezes whatever I do, even with 7x multi, strange, trying all setings. Maybe need another Q9550, I could burn 470+ with old Q6600 easy
But Vcore and VID are two different things. I initially didn't have C1E disabled (turns out you have to disable it in 2 different places in the I45 BIOS). But I am now running with C1E disabled and the Vcore showing 1.272V with the Q9950 at 475X8.5-4.05GHz.
The VID still shows 1.1000 in Realtemp.
Are we talking about two different things?
Check out the Real Temp thread ;)
Looks like bad CPU or bad combo with my board (maybe BIOS???), I cant find where to mesure FSB voltage on my P5K-E board with multimeter upside the board, 445 fsb passed Intel Burn test 50 loops easy with 445 x 8, but no luck at 450  I tryed FSB voltage all the way up to 1.4v from 1.1 in BIOS, tryed PLL voltage up to 1.7v, looks better, but also freezes during test.

Lets hope it is just a bad fsb hole with this cobo, never had problems on my 65nm quads
Oh. Looks like I was using an old version of RealTemp. Downloaded the latest and now it shows min VID =1.1000 and max = 1.2500. Does this mean my VID is 1.1000 only when running C1E power savings and 1.25V when running full power?
I would post a screen shot but this forum doesn;t allow me to upload images directly. I registered on imageshack and been waiting 4 hours for their confirmation email. Anyone recommend a faster response image hosting site?
do some imageshack shot and post your cpu-z specs link brother:up: what memory you running on that I45?
Try Photobucket my friend link below and hope your saving your images as jpg or you doin it png?
http://photobucket.com/
Just got 50 loops pased Intel Burn test @ 450 x 8, damn, this chip looks like love high PLL voltage  Still 1.4 fsb voltage (will try lower) + 1.7v PLL, messured the PLL with multimeter and it showed 1.738v under laod, how long do you think this chip will be live? :> :ROTF:
If it dosnt overclock, well, then it must be dead :p:
burn the shack and try the bucket..I guess you did'nt see my link..I gave you?
http://photobucket.com/
what's your cpu voltage sitting on? [+0.100v] or [+0.75v]?
the C1E is in 2 different ares of the bios you only have to disable it in either or not both..lol
But its strange, 445 FSB is easy at low voltages on all setings, next 450 is hard and 460 is hard to boot, 1.7 pll, 1.4 fsb, 1.7 nb and 1.2sb, still nothing, maybe 4 x 2Gb memory is the problem...
GLT changes also do nothing, i think its the bad CPU I got, it sensors are bad and VID also is realy bad (1.275v for 45nm), but still testing, I have 1.8v PLL still to test :D
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9...v475x85.th.jpg
Here is a screenshot running at 4.05GHz.
My Q9550@3.4 GHz was running for 4h30, The max FFTs size is 8k (instead of 64), do you think my CPU is stable ?
You better add this test too: Intel burn test!
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=197835
Prime95 : CPU Stability
Intel Burn Test/Linx : Cooling Effiency, and RAM.
I'm right ?
Linx also test hard CPU stability, but Prime95 with small FFTs is good test for CPU. I test all of them, after all Prime95 Blend for 12+ hours.
DadI_Oh
looks sweet to me. im going to put in my Mushkin meme iknow i can get 1066 out of and try and take it up some and see if i get that nice 4.0....lol
My Q9550 is now running at 3.4 GHz, Vcore 1.21V (with LLC), Vnb 1.26V, Vtt 1.26V, Vpll 1.52V.
Is Prime95 for 4h30 (FFTs max at 8kb) enough to check the stability ?

anyone has a L844C076 batch E0 Q9550? vid is 1.125
Very nice vivid, if i can eek 4ghz out of my q9550 ill be extremely happy, 4870x2 looks nice, unfortunately i couldnt afford one at the time, so i had to settle for a gtx 280, not bad for my res of 1920x1200, plays all my games at an ok rate, but if i seen a 4870x2 on auction, id have it quicker than dinner lol.
