Sub 9 on water!
Awesome Chri$ch! :toast:
Hi folks. I'm planning to replace my Q6600 for an E8600. I'll continue to use my lapped TR Ultra 120 Extreme on it so I'd like to know what range of clocks I can expect from it. 4.3~4.5GHz?
I've got a lapped TRUE and I'm getting 4.40 with fairly low volts/heat. Unless you get a stellar chip, don't expect more than that on air. Most of us have found the jump to 4.5 from 4.4 is a big one and not worth the heat/volts.
Hopefully you'll get a killer chip though! :)
nice chip chris
i'm liking this Q820A599 E8600 i tested tonight
E8600@ 4800MHz
vcore was jumping between 1.44v and 1.42v
Air cooled >> TTBigTyphoon

yeah, its my best chip... but it dont like voltages above 1,60v (only 0,01v more and i cant boot into windows)
best 1M time i get
http://www.abload.de/img/5.1ghz-1m-02wi0.png
i test later max clock for 32M :)
Thanks a mil for the links and advice. I did as was suggested, lapped, washer, and still my temp idle at 40c
Grrr... checked ihs with a razor, as well as thr TRUE, which is indeed bowed out a bit in the middle, but nothing drastic, AS5 has good spead, I dunno what gives... Ohhh it just dropped to 39c :mad::mad:
That is why i switched from AS5 to MX-2. MX-2 is more like AS Ceramique - more putty like. With uneven surfaces it fills in the gaps for better contact. AS5 is quite thin and won't cover uneven spots as well. Unfortunately the middle is where the cores are. With my washer mod TRUE and lapped 8600es I idle at 29/30ish and under orthos load max out at 55c @ 4.3ghz 1.35v. Note that both cores have identical temps - good contact, huh?
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...69/e8600es.jpg
I understand that businesses are in it to make money. But I am thinking that the ihs on my new cpu is not seated properly on the cores or something... I haven't has this problem with any of the 2 other C2Duos I have used in this rig...
This is really annoying me. I have already sold my old cpu, and I'm pretty sure the egg won't advance me a replacement.:mad::mad::mad:
FPO#: Q820A600
VID: 1.2500v
Bad luck... Again.
SuperPi 1M: 9.234s
cooling: h2o
mobo: Abit IP35
I averaged everyones screenshots and got this:
AVG: 4464mhz, 1.336 Vcore
This equals about:
4500mhz 1.36v
4400mhz 1.32v
4300mhz 1.29v
4200mhz 1.25v
4100mhz 1.22v
4000mhz 1.19v
it's obvious 4000mhz may take less than 1.19, and 4500mhz may take more than 1.36.

thx jaredpace for the effort
gonna keep my E8400 for shure :D
Where best place in Canada thats getting good steppings?
I want one, but may not be able to get one for a few weeks . damn it.
Will there still be good chips out then?
sorry wrong thread
doompc, me thinks this a wrong thread to post e8400 overclocks at ;) :D
Ok i did it i ordered a E8600 and me hopes it to my house next week.
Are all of then E0 revision.
Sorry, I couldn't find a E8400 E0 specific. Since all E8600 are E0s...
Post below in the e8400/e8500 thread:

Nice overclock. Excellent. Seems just like my e0 8500. PM Leeghoofd to put it on his list too.
Got 5Ghz running pretty stable,
Not to bad for a dual core on water with a 780i :)

This German eBay guy says he's got 2 Q822A435's left in stock. I bought one yesterday & it cost me 16 euros for S&H to Holland via DHL..
The auction does state that he only ships to Germany, so you'll have to ask if he'll ship to your country & for how much..
(I'd also ask what FPO's those 2 are to be sure).

What's the safety level on these chips again? Just got 4.8ghz out of mine with 1.48v (I think it'll go lower though)
~Bex
I thought 1.40v is safe, but soem are saying lower then that on AIR = 1.38... :)
If true then 4.0-4.3 maybe is what all can be done on decent to good chips at that voltage on Air.
My E8600 why so hot, @ 4.23Ghz with vcore 1.256 CPUz
idle : 43C - 50C , depending what time during the day
load : 68C - 75C , again depending hot day or cool day here in northern california .
and my TRUE was lapped and washer modded and reseated , the same hot result.
4Ghz required 1.19v and was pretty cool even on a hot day. But then I am running watercooling. Not very good watercooling but it's enough. New case will have a swiftech mcr 320 dedicated to the CPU alone. Atm I've got 2x 240s cooling the CPU, NB and 3870X2's.
~Bex
I just picked one up this morning
Q820A596
VID 1.25
running at 10x400 in windows at 1.248 vcore
7 hours of orthos, the highest I saw either core hit was 41C. Ambient case temp of 24C
looks like no more stuck sensors like I have with my QX9650 either.
I'm going to drop the vcore a couple of notches and see if it is still stable.
oh yeah babe :D 4,3ghz with 1,24v set in bios gave me this
http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=431192vjk2.jpg
orthos stable to a couple hours  Q820A601
check it out here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=310:up:
4800MHz aw yeah! Temps aren't too bad either. ~46c whilst doing everyday things in Windows... Then as I stated earlier, I've a dodgey waterblock contact atm so roll on the new CPU block and tripple rad dedicated to the CPU! :D
My real concern is the PLL tbh. I think it's a tad high for this CPU... 1.56v=~1.65v - think I'll try and bring it down if I can...
~Bex
 1,160v cpu-z reading and 4300mhz Orthos stable yet over 2 hour and 39 minutes and counting :D set 1,2v in bios
http://img409.imageshack.us/my.php?i...sstablego1.jpg
I managed that on 1.19v CPU-Z Reading :D These things are just so sweet it's unreal!
I just got 4800MHz running on a 266 strap so I'm bringing down the voltages :D
~Bex
Opps, my bad...
did some more orthos testing on mine.
at 4 ghz, it passed at 1.232 in windows for 5 hours. temps were under 40 c for both cores (topping out at 38/39C for cores).
I'm going to drop it another couple of notches to see if its stable lower.
one thing I noticed from this chip and my quad is that my NB is running a few C cooler for some reason as well.
So whats the general consensus as far as cpu fsb voltage goes ? Would running 1.2 fsb daily be too much for these chips ? I ask because mine takes 1.208 load to do 4.0ghz w/ 1.15 fsb. I might be able to get it a bit lower by upping the fsb up one more notch.
I just got mine up amd running. VID is 1.1125. Currnetly testing at 400x10, cpuz shows 1.168 load. With my cheap dmm I get 1.14 volts. Going to let Orthos run for a while and check temps. 42 is the highest it has gone so far.
Ok,
So I was freaking out over the temps of my new E8600, so I RMA'ed it and got another. Q820A405 this time, and still temps are idle 47 / load 58-60 with Intel Burn Test. This is at default speed and voltage, no oc, and an ambient room temp of 21c.
I too have lapped and washered my TRUE, with no difference at all.
CoreTemp reports vID of 1.1875.
I called Intel yesterday to try and get some answers, but I was greeted by a Tech who didn't even have the E8600 in his system, so he created a case number pertaining to an E8500:confused::confused::confused:
So when I got thru to the next tech, he proceeded to inform me that they can not give a idle temp average as there are too many variables between systems. He did say however that the max temp for the E8600 is 72.4c, and that the vID ranged from .85v to a max recommended voltage of 1.3625v. I confirmed this at processorfinder.intel.com and all was as the tech said. He said if my temps were peaking at 58-60c, that I should be happy with them. I asked him how my old E6320 clocked to 2.8Ghz at 1.34375v could idle at 19-22c and under load peak at 38-42, yet this new E8600 at only 1.1875 idles at 47c and peaks at 58-60c? He said it was the 45nm process. I was quite shocked at this answer. It just doesn't make sense to me.
But I must admit, I am glad to see that others are reporting the same kind of temps with these new chips. It just goes against everything I have ever tried to accomplish with my temps, as I strive to keep them below 50c for the well being of the chips.
I would have to say that maybe the temp programs are not reading these new chips E0 100% properly... as it goes against all logic that a 45nm COOLER chip can be hotter then a 65 NM HOTTER chip .. how so unless these new chips have a turbo engine built into them to get 3.33ghz... :)
I am hoping so too ..... as my E8600 should arrive Monday or Tuesday.
Hi,
here is mine E8600 Q822A435 VID 1.2375v need volt to get 4.5 stable but don't seems too hot eighter. (62°c max under water)
4.5ghz (7.5 x 600) @ 1.38v OCCT (CPU test)
http://pix.nofrag.com/e/3/a/63401e28...ee35d958tt.jpg
It was done with friend's P5E3 premium
Nice but VID does not MEAN Current Vcore ... unless at STOCK cpu GHZ.
It took you 1.38 Vcore to get that Overclock.
Nice OC by the way, but like many have stated/claimed ..... stay around 1.20-1.24v to avoid degradation of the CPU.
So that means somewhere around 4.2-4.3ghz .. but again there is no guaranttee that it won't degrade either at those volts, but it more plausible that it won't.
I was using the latest version, which the author said was updated to reflect the correct Tj.Max of 100c, see here: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/history.html
I also set the same value in Real Temp, and both programs give the same results.
So it seems to me that Real Temp does not have the correct Tj.Max values by default...:confused::confused:
Official Intel Specs here: http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLB9L
Hi guys,
Here is my new E8600 Q814A527
http://images4.hiboox.com/images/350...3eda962deb.jpg
temp ambient ~25°C
Next time watercooling ;)
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...9/tempdiff.jpg
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g.../tempdiff2.jpg
Intel spec for 45nm dual core is 100 you are correct - that was just released a couple of days ago.
So I guess tj.max is off by 5 c in RealTemp.
Updated to RealTemp 2.75. TjMax set at 100 for both. Corellating now. Guess you got a hot or concave chip. Mine idles 38-39 now I guess lapped at 1.328v.
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g.../tempdiff3.jpg
Man there has just got be something wrong with the DTS's on some of these chips. There is just no way I can believe a chip running on .2 volts + can run cooler than my chip at 1.1875 volts.
WTF did Intel bother giving up the specs to monitor the DTS when it "wasn't intended to report idle temps"?
I don't have any other way of monitoring my temps other than Core Temp or Real Temp.
What a load of bollocks:down::down::down::down::down::down::down:
I understand that the retail e8600's run a little hotter than the ES but here is my e8600ES lapped chip on an unlapped washer mod TRUE @ 1.36v idle:
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...8600esTRUE.jpg
Where you buy yours at Geebs?
Reverted to stock default settings - idle temps are still the same 35 c for me - that's lapped cpu and with a TRUE - so I guess it would probably idle 40-45 unlapped on a stock cooler.
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...dleE8600es.jpg
You making me Jealous (LagunaX) as i have to wait till Tuesday at minimum for my E8600 .... :(
My cpu isn't lapped, but my TRUE is, thanks to your help and links... And I also have the washer mod going. I can only imagine what i would be at with the stock cooler...
Why do you suppose there's such a difference in vID's? I have seen other report 1.25v on theirs... I didn't think there could be so many different revisions of the same chip so soon.
Regardless, hell, even quad cores don't idle as high as mine. I can't even stress test mine without exceeding the max temp.
I know it's prolly a stupid question, but I'm grasping at straws here... do you lot have thermal management enabled in the BIOS? Or C1E? I do not, nor have I ever...
ALL those settings on that are Disabled .. except of course the Multiplyer.
Check my template to see if you have similar options in your Bios (on your mobo) as what i have disabled.
When overclocked some vids report as 1.25v - as in my overclocked screenshot above - but in my post above on default stock settings you seen my vid is 1.1 on my e8600es chip. So others may not have 1.25 vids.
I notice one thing about the E8600
The lower the vid is the hotter the cpu
My is v1.1750, one too hot of a chip
Just picked up an E0 E8500 Q822. Won't be here till later this week though. Will post results.
Mine's max VID is 1.20V and it gets hot as hell. WAY hotter than my old C0 E8400. I've got a lapped TRUE, but have not lapped the chip itself.
I mena it is perfectly happy and stable at 4.4 @ 1.328V, but it runs HOT.
One thing I've noticed is there has been NO degradation whatseoever with this E8600.
So all these ppl who are 1.40-1.45-1.48 maybe in for a rude degradation in 2-4 weeks from now and we will see them post about it... :)
I'm using the stock cooler for a while longer, but only overclocked currently to 3.53GHz with 1.25V set in BIOS. FPO is Q820A***. VID is 1.2500.
Idle = 26/31, load = 51/56. Those are monitored with latest Core temp. Load achieved with OCCT 1 hour test. I'm expecting these figures to drop quite a bit when I buy a better cooler.
Thermal management is enabled, I like Speedstep.
I am at stock voltage with mine, but even when it's at default 3.33Ghz, my temps don't change at all. Which makes sense, as the voltage is the same.
Intel recommend a max temp of 72.4c, so in order for me not to exceed that temp, I have to set 70c as the shutdown temp in my BIOS, as the next step is 75c, which exceeds the max recommended temp...
I want to return this thing, but I think the egg will send me another from the same batch... I want my 3rd to be a keeper:rolleyes:
Maybe it is the Q820A*** batch. Seems likely to me that some don't have such good IHS's or there is some sort of manufacturing defect.
I mean right now, as I type this, with cpu usage at 0-3%, my ambient temp in the room is 75f or 24c, and the E8600 is idling at 47c. That is with a lapped TRUE, a very flat IHS, AS5, and a fan pushing 103cfm through the TRUE.
But sure, the egg will pull through again for me, I hope.
Damn dude, yeah good luck on that one.
Ouch, those are hot. Mine's about ~42c (~25c@ ambient) 4.5GHz with a poorly mounted Apogee block and humungus "backwards" loop :P
Although saying that, my temps barely changed from 4GHz, same effects @ 4.8GHz
Batch# Q820A750 (UK Stock)
~Bex
EDIT - before anyone asks about the "Backwards" I go res > pump > GPU 2 > GPU 1 > NB > MCR240 > CPU > MCR240
[QUOTE=RCG_Bex;3261329]Ouch, those are hot. Mine's about ~42c (~25c@ ambient) 4.5GHz with a poorly mounted Apogee block and humungus "backwards" loop :P

Maybe there's something to having a higher vid? I have a 1.25 vid Q820 running at 4.2 Ghz with idle temp at 36-38c load at 55-58c. More settings in sig.
Finn
Yeah, the higher VID ones seem to run cooler. I have the same setup as you, Finn. Did the TR Ultra 120 fit well on this board?
I remounted my waterblock here are the results.
http://bellsouthpwp.net/o/w/owen2863...n_untitled.JPG
Come on guys lets see some 6.0ghz OC's here or an average of 5.0ghz.... :)
It was simply easier to route, shorter hosing lengths n stuff. VID = 1.25v
~Bex
with mobo volts set accordingly so it doesnt overvolt like mad... (good job asus on this POS p45 mobo i got raped $200 for) llc off because it works in reverse on this mobo. 1.296 loaded i seen in cpuz.
hits 75c using intel burn test, prime 95 10c lower and gaming hits around 55c
I running LLC on = Enabled not Auto and i have had no issues since day one.
my p35 didnt deliver less volts at idle than load with LLC enabled, if i set 1.35 it would idle at 1.35 and load at like 1.325. on this mobo it will idle at 1.3 and load at 1.36, total garbage.
LLC enabled i idle at 1.336 and in Bios it is 1.35 and full load is 1.35.
A little Vdroop with LLC on = Enabled at idle to load is normal for most mobo's.
