w1zzard says that CCC is locked from the driver side, not a setting in the BIOS if you read the comments on the Diamond 4870 Black Edition news article @ TPU. You never know though, maybe it is the bios
Here it is. You might want to play with the fan settings as I haven't touched those in awhile since I'm now on watercooling

can someone of those with 900mhz and a 4ghz quad do a 3dmark06?
thats about the power of my next rig :P
The limit of overdrive's maximum overclock is actually saved in the BIOS. However, the section in it is protected. You can change the value, but the check notices and completely deactivates overdrive, then. Now a vendor with access to the BIOS' source code can of course set this value to anything they like. Selling that as a stunning feature is immoral, to say the least. I hope they get in trouble with ATI for that.

bios signing process, manufacturers cant just go crazy on settings
that's super lame!
My winflash2012 will not start.... When I click on it will run in my process list... but I can not see the program on my screen...
Do I need something to get it working, I need to flash my 4850 card with something, its broken right now, so all help would be nice...
I need to learn how to flash with a floppy and how to do it and with what program, or need to get winflash2012 to get up on my screen...
I have a PCI card that I am running on now (nvidia) And I have my PCI-E ATI 4850 card in the PCI-e slot..
Any help is welcome, if u are going to answer something else that is no good or helful for me, the dont answer at all.
Thanks.
How to use atiflash360....
Do I use it in dos or what? need big help with this
this is how my card looks now:
http://wizard.beats.hu/hd4850.jpg
+there is a 80 fan blowing to the card.
the problem is, that the power circuit is still 80+ °C under heavy load (fur opengl).
I think it is too hot :(
how are you cooling it?
just wondering. whats the MAX voltage the bios will allow you to change it to. 1.21? i know you can put what ever number but im sure theres some kind of cut off where it doesnt do anything anymore.
what is the least amount of voltage that bios can give you for 2d? just wondering cause if i do the hard vmod, then that increases both 2d and 3d clocks, and while i'm in 2d, that just wastes power. so if i lower 2d voltage to maximum minimum and raise 3d to max, and then do the hardmod, i get better performance in 3d, but less wasted power in 2d.
.94v is the lowest that works via the bios
pls help. I can't modify any bios. When I save it with RBE, and the load, to check it, there are only "---" at every voltage.
what can be the problem?
RBE bug. Go in Control Pannel -> Regional Options and switch standards to English(UK).
Thanks!
If I recall someone posted a picture of a HD48xx card with extra caps on the back, but i can't seem to find it. Does someone have a link for me please? Thanx! :)
i have added only 2 caps to the back (2.5v uf825).. i shall finish doing caps sometime soon.. freaking moving and then going to lake powell on the 7th.. so i am SOOOOOO busy..... i will for sure post pictures of the mods when i am done..:yepp:
What sort of caps? I have a bag of Sanyo WG 16v 1500uF caps that I used on my creative...XFI
I took a bunch of pictures of the caps and will try to list all of the ratings if I have time when I get home from work
the exact ones i used..
http://www.mouser.com/Search/.....Wildcards
Nice, the United Chemicon PSAs are supposed to be one of the best caps to use for replacement/modding on power sections due to Low ESR. Panasonic FMs are also widely available and cheap to boot that should be great replacements. I may try to add a few in the back.
I think the largest cap on the 4850 was a 16v 1000uF but I have to doublecheck. The black one or the green one, i dont remember
bah if I order from digikey i probably wont get them until after the holiday
All cards are reference for now, all bios files are compatible.
woo! I used gurusans bios that he posted a few posts back. With the 1.2 volts on the core. And im running at 750 mhz right now, looks good. Im waiting for memory heatsinks before i push the ram. Is it possible to go higher than 750 with 1.2 volts? I think ill need to mod it now.
yes it will change the vGPU to 1.2v...I personally could not do 750mhz on 1.2v but I could do 790mhz on 1.263
Sweet, my cards both top out atm at around 670Mhz on stock bios, if I can squeeze a bit more voltage out of em and hit 700Mhz i'd be a happy bunny.
So if I grabbed my stock bios from GPU-Z and changed volts to 1.263 (like you have in yours) and flashed that (using latest winflash?) all should be dandy?
Flashing to 1.263 will result in 1.2v, that's still about a .05v boost from stock though so it should be good for 720-750mhz
Excellent, well that's my evening planned :D
Does the latest winflash work then for this? or do I need to use one of the dos flashing utils?
Personally, i would never use winflash. It's best to use atiflash from dos off a bootable usb stick. A little more inconvenient but it has never failed me, while I've never even been able to get winflash to run.
ATi flash it is then, thanks for the help.
How much can u do with stock cooling... how much overclock, and how much volt can u have on bios with stock stuff do u think?
isn't stock vgpu 1.20 volts?
I cant get it... I want a bios that use 160/500 in 2d, but the one that is on this page does not work for me, wrong ID it say...
Then if I put the same numbers in RBE with my original bios then the 2d/3d change does not change att all, they only change if my ATI Overclock is ON.
I want a bios for my ASUS card that have 160/500 in 2d automatic, without ATI overcklock on. Can that be done?
I can link up my original bios if u want? If u could mod it for me? <--- that is for any who can and want to. Thanks
I'm using the bios with 160/500 in 2D, but I had to increase the voltage to 0,99V, because it had some artifacts in 2d, with 0,94V.
In 3D it is not stable at 750 mhz :( (watercooled)
725 Mhz is ok, I didn't try anything else.
for memory 1150 is too much, there are some minor artifacts :(
and I cant set 1125 in RBE, because there is some checksum error.
sor I can run my card at 725/1100, with only bios Volt mod.
Anything above 1.24-1.25ish will default to 1.2....the 1.4 value in my bios was before I knew that.
It's unstable at that voltage past 700?
To get anything above 1.2v, you need to do either pencil or hardmod - simple as that~!
I didn't. In my previous post I said flashing to 1.263 will result in only 1.2v on the 4850.
I got 1.263 only be pencil modding
Thank you very much. Sorry for mis-understood...
so if we select more than 1.2 in the bios, it will just provide the maximum correct? Or do we have to edit the bios and specify 1.2v on the core?
Hey, guru, what voltage are you running from the bios for idle with your pencil mod?
I've got a hard mod at 1.3v right now and I'm getting around 1.1 on idle. I'm thinking that if I flash with less voltage, say .90v it will compensate.
these cards are fun, i went from not being able to go over 660/1050 ish on stock volts and bios, to being able to do 685/1075 with an msi bios that was stock but gave more volts than the visiontek bios. So i pencil modded and played with 750/1150 a while, then out of curiosity i reversed everything, at 1.14 loaded on both gpu i can now do 700 stable and 2.06-2.1 on the mem gets me 1100 also. I think those are all almost stock voltages now. maybe a wee bit of burn in happened? I am new to volt modding of any kind and couldnt get my cards to get more than 1.25 ish volts and I couldnt do 750 completely stable. when i went back to stock everything they semm to clock higher than before. maybe I need a softer #2 lol the pencil I mean.
well im at 825 and 1150 on the ram. I think ill stop there. dont need to push it farther. Dunno if i can. I am going to sit back and play games for next week and see how it responds
Using stock cooling with a custom BIOS (voltage @ 2.1, fan bumped up) the best I can do is 700/993 with my two VT 4850s in CF. Anything higher, especially in the memory department and I start to notice minor artifacting in 3DMark Vantage. I seem to have horrible luck when it comes to getting video memory to overclock. Granted, I haven't had enough time to test the second card by itself so that could be the sole culprit.
good stuff ehh

Hm, if I save my BIOS to file, and open it, the default BIOS I can see the voltages!
Also downloaded gurusan's ROM, if I open it with RBE, i can also see the voltages.
But if I try to set the voltages, and save the ROM file, next time If i open it with RBE there are only "---" signs where the specific voltages numbers should be... why?
This is how it should be:
http://kepfeltoltes.pirateclub.hu/thumbs/rbe_ok.JPG
This is what I got...
http://kepfeltoltes.pirateclub.hu/thumbs/rbe_error.JPG
If all profiles read --- it shouldn't work at all, or maybe the driver will default to 3D vGPU. If only the 3D vGPU are read --- this means these values are controlled by the driver.
it was hungarian, I forgot to set to english(UK).
So anyone can confirm that changing voltage in bios result in real improvements?:D
For me, it didnt work out well.
I did the 1.263V vGPU change, but no gain in MHz...:shakes:
By default, it gets 1.084V, and I can run the card @ 660/2100MHz. Fair enough.
So I was like, 1.2V should allow me at least 700MHz GPU speed. But it didnt. Running Vantage, VPU recover...
I dunno why, probably a anti-oc card, for my bad luck.
why change voltage destroing warranty, when you can do it via bios edition with RBE_111?
Anyone notice the screen flickering when scrolling up fast on a web page??? or is this from crossfire?????
I noticed another thing when scrolling up and down fast on a webpage. I was monitoring the clockspeeds with GPU-Z and noticed that when I scroll up and down fast, the card switches between low 2D (160MHz) and High 3D (830MHz) al lot! Why does it need to be in high 3D mode for just simple webpage browsing?
I noticed the same thing with uTorrent. when this app is openend in a windows the card constantly switches between high and low. (on default, uTorrent shows some realtime graph for download speed and file completion) Does anybody else noticed this? I get the feeling that constant switching about every 1 second causes instability, although the maximum clockspeeds are completely stable.
I can do 830MHz stable with Crysis, 3DMark and Atitool (10 minutes artefact tester) but my system will hang after two or three hours when it was doing nothing but only downloading. (during that time it was switching contantly) the reason of the hang was a BSOD caused by a file named atidag.dll
This happend to me three nights in a row.
Last night I left my rig downloading ( as in previous nights) but this time i minimized the uTorrent window to the system tray, so there was no window active and hence there was no constant switching. Lo and behold, it ran flawlessly the whole night.
Any idea's or comments in this?
Is it posible to change the size of the video memory of a videocard bios
jimmy you know when that gpu tool will finally come out? It's kinda getting tyring waiting on a way to overclock above 700mhz without the risks of bios flashing or hard modding
Hello thi is my first post in this forum, I am writing from Barcelona ( Spain ), I have been following the thread with the help of the google translator, I try to follow your advice
but I do not work for my 2 Asus HD4850, gurusan you can help me, I'm trying to change the bios by yours and i said winflash = do not match the id of the subsystems.
I tried to edit with RBE operating at 160/710 Vgpu 1.2, only this paramewters but not works fine,
nothing else fails start 3dmark06.
Sorry for my grammar and thanks to meet me.
Sorry for a kinda OT, but has anyone had problems with the settings not sticking? I've flashed my 4870 twice now, the second time I changed all the values to 825 / 1150 respectively but now it just sits @ 500/900 or something pathetic like that :\
Any ideas guys? :)
Sheesh, I'm not sure. When I enable overdrive again I can set it and it reads correctly in gpu-z but still limited to only 790/1100 :(
I try to push de Vgpu to 1,263 and the same history, it is impossible to start 3dmark06. You put some pictures of my bios modified, ¿ Some tips ?
Or is it possible that my card ( Asus HD4850 ) can not be overcloked ?
http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/7...9087gx0.th.jpghttp://img77.imageshack.us/img77/902...1926zi4.th.jpg
Gracias , Thanks.
Ive used a custom bios to set 1.263v (which is the same as setting 1.2v i assume). The most I can get is 730mhz on the core. I am running an s1 with a 120mm fan with temps never going above 50C. Before this voltage increase the highest clock speed I could get was 680mhz.
Jzsteam, you should unlock all of it and change the voltages for clock info 7-9 as well. Also, use furmark stability testing to get the highest stress on the card.
Heres what I'm currently using
Thank you for your help,¿ now this is how the image is correct ?
http://img364.imageshack.us/img364/5...1572vl3.th.jpg
And as I change the values of fan ? Look the image of my fan settings, I am not leaving all options.

Thank you ghost101, now works very well whit your help, tomorrow change fans by de Coolink GFXChilla and testing in the Crossfire

my card is pretty good in the respect that I got it up to 700/1100 with no problems and can probably go higher if I wanted to on stock voltage, just wondering, what's the pencil mod for the 4850? Last I heard changing the voltage in RBE doesn't get you very far and that you need a hard mod instead
Im all stock, voltages and coolers, and i am at 725 / 1150
I think its very nice..
Although i cant run 3dmark too normally... but just add this to the shortcut and you can:
C:\Programas\Futuremark\3DMark06\3DMark06.exe -nosysteminfo
I would like if someone helps me to do some mods in the graph...
i have one 20kohm resistence..
Hey guys been awhile since i have posted here.
I am getting a HIS 4850 and all i want is similar speeds as the 4870, can we just not flash it with a 4870 Bios?
Or
What do i have to do to get it to the speeds of the 4870?
I see Guru has a HIS card and Bios uploaded, can i just flash the card to that Bios and do nothing else?
Will i get 750mhz and whatever on the memory which Guru has set?
Should we wait for the Overclocked Versions of these cards to arrive and flash the bios with the overclocked Bios?
Thks
no you will wind up with a 200 dollar paperweight, aside from using a similar core these cards have nothing in common with the 4870. the 4870 has GDDR5 memory VS GDDR3 for the 4850, they have different chips controlling speeds and voltages also.
you could wait for some 4850 OC editions and flash to their bios or use RBE 1.1 to set the clocks you want and do either a pencil or hardmod.
jimmyz
So if i flash with Guru's do i have to do a pencil mod?
The bios he has uploaded is the 750mhz i downloaded it and have it currently opened with RBE, the only thing i would change is the fan settings... but to what SCALE should i do?
ghost101
Ok i may have missed it, but did Guru actually do a pencil mod for this uploaded bios?
His is a HIS 4850 and mine will be of similar product/manufacturer.
Ok i suppose Guru is needed here to explain further for me as if he did so before or after this bios.
Guru where are YOU???? .. LOL
Ok i read this ... By Guru
pencil modding is pretty easy...but you can get 1.2v with a simple bios flash and that would allow you to go to 720-750
HERE:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?p=3112051
Hmm i will still wait for him to post before i do anything.
Yep, thats exactly what people have been doing. Youll have to edit your bios to give 1.2v and then attempt to find the highest core clock you can get. Like I said before, not everyone is able to get 750mhz. Its precisely what jzteam was doing on this page. He was only able to get 710mhz while I got 730mhz. I cant remember if gurusan got 750mhz purely via editing the bios though. But even if he did, you want to gradually move up towards 750mhz flash by flash. Jumping straight to it may simply cause instability whenever the aero interface or something causes 3d clocks to kick in. I suppose if you use atiflash this isnt much of a problem though.
Over the past few days I've flashed so many variations of 4850 BIOSs (no pencil modding, etc.) that my eyes almost started to bleed. I've taken the voltage up to 1.2, core from 625-720 and memory from 993-1050. As I ratchet up the numbers I also increase the cooling. Regardless of what I tried I simply could not get EITHER one of my two VisionTek 4850s to pass every test completely artifact free!
For instance... in 3DMark Vantage (Extreme mode) during the first test if I watch extremely closely I will notice a single artifact (looks like a 1/2" square that flashes once for a second in the middle of my screen) during the part where the girl jumps into the boat and drives it out from under the camouflage cover. This happens even on stock settings. Am I just being too anal here?
