Jur jur jur...
Phelan must be reaching for the razorblade now :P
Well, at least we don't have to put the whole MB on a frying pan to take the IHS off...

Cant get this damn board stable yet
Anyone got some settings yet?
If dividers is the issue try to flash back to bios 0401. Tried 4x1024, only 1M though.

I shall get a 2nd bord and try it!
On the top of the IHM there is a sticky sheet which is rock hard and stuck to the IHS really really well! Cover the full size of the IHS
Inside the IHS again same thing but only covers the X38 DIE
The IHS aint glue, more it bonned with it i think.
If you's lifting the stock off do it from the RAM side then the back!
What is everyone using for Voltage settings in regards to NB and FSB? I have GTL's set to .63x on CPU and AUTO for NB because I didnt know which to set for NB....

The wonders os the vmod! :D
im have the following if i remember correctly next time i restart ill let you know for sure
cpu 1.54
nb 1.5
sb 1.75
ram set 2.2
just a quick update as well i flashed to the 504 bios and had to back down my ram to 900 mhz because it wouldnt let me boot with 1066...i had to keep flashed 504 because of errors with my graphics card drivers and with 401 my computer wouldnt run videos or games...but with my ram set where its at im cool with what im running now just waiting for another bios update to see if i can get my ram running @ 1066 again...other than that this board is rock solid much more solid than my damn 680i!!
is there a pencil vmod we can do? for vdroop?
GAR: You downed the Gigabyte X38 board, and switched to the Asus, now show us what improvements you got. Show us some stable overclocked screen shots, and I mean stable! Not some 1 or 2 min orthos run, how about an 8-hour run!
Come On Do Some Braggin In Black & White...........
Have been following the maximus threads here,

ShePearl's ASUS MAXIMUS Formula SE : Few questions.
Appreciate it's still relatively early days, but what's the general opinion ??
Clearly a decent bios will help, hopefully including a fix for the Loadline Calibration.
The PSU issue of Clunk's, is also odd (see Continued..... section , although like he says, similar to issues seen originally with the commando.
You reckon it's the makings of a winner of the magnitude of the p5k or p5b deluxe, or something a bit less:)
Cheers:D
Man I cannot believe the vdroop this board has. Set to 1.56** in bios, under load its at 1.456
Board still has problems running CAS5 266 with the Ballistix. Using the stock 0401 bios. Had to drop down to 2gigs of my Ballistix just to get Vista installed without BSOD of final installation. Not very happy with this board to say the least. The X38-DQ6 was much easier to run, with less problems it seemed. Think I am going to go back to my DFI UT-P35 T2R...
Vista has issues being installed with 4gb's of ram, you need to install with 2gb's, install the hotfix and put the other 2 gigs in......the gigabyte also has issues running 4 sticks of ram, seems the x38 doesnt like 4 gigs of ram, i got BSOD's with 4 sticks of ram, even on stock settings.......gigabyte board sucked for me, vdroop was horrible, vcore was horrible, trying to get 1.55 volts i had to squeeze to 1.65 in bios, wich gave me 1.62 at load, no way to get 1.57 volts with that board, overall i was very unhappy with the gigabyte board, i sold my 4 sticks of d9gmh and got the new g.skill 2x2gb ddr1000
Anyone been doing some work with RAM subtimings? I will have some results up soon.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...itled-1-20.jpg
No real tweaking done on this....
EDIT:
Heres some tweaking of subtimings as well....
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...itled-12-1.jpg
I have a big problem passing 580mhz FSB... What ever I do, I can get past it, doenst matter what multi ect.
This board has a lot of potential, but why do I alway get a board wich just cant pass 600mhz fsb :)
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/89bb61e60d...519b7/full.jpg
This was FSB testing only! Spi can be much faster with some tweaking.
Ik looks like the board cant hold load @ + 575 fsb, I get 580mhz fsb on multi 6,7 and 8...
Perhaps CPU FSB wall?
Try raising Pll volts.
I've tried Vpll from 1,8v to 2,3v @ bios set. I don't think is the cpu, A website in holland has send out 10 of these boards for a overclocking contest, sofar everyone is strugelling to get over 570 - 580 mhz fsb. Only Rol-co had 600mhz validated, but also his board can hold load like spi 1M.
I think this is the same for cornerjack, ho is running in cascade now.
And how 'bout some more xtreme cooling solution on the NB?
This might net you some hard needed MHz.
I will try... Rol-co has chilled water on the NB btw. I have normal watercooling on the NB with asetek chipset block. Temp of the NB never raises above 30*C.
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/4392d5fa22...55b88/full.jpg
I'm going to test the IHS les bord today to make sure it works. LOL though i don't think i will keep it IHS less, think it's wort much?
Is that a beertender in the background?
Are you gonna use that to chill your water for the NB?
Else i'd have 2 beer please. :)
What think each of us begin to put the settings in the template...

Weird problem, Yesterday my setup was pretty stable I did run wPrime tests and lots of other :banana::banana::banana: and did run QMC Boinc project for a while, now I did put my geforce 8800GTX back in and those same bios settings and CPU is not stable :(
There is two photos of my bios settings:
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...5x9_bios_1.jpg
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...5x9_bios_2.jpg
CPU is Q6600 G0 and watercooled.
I will post up my template tonight, still working on stability and performance tuning. Everyone else should do the same, wanna see some 24/7 stable temps to go from :)
// damn, wrong tread....
2 beers comming your way zeus, catch! ;)
I can't get it boot above anything of 450FSB and im using different ram now.
Bios ?
First, why are you running your volts so high??? no need for those high voltages, take them down, cpu pll should be around 1.6-1.8, your NB volt is wayy to high, 1.5 is more than enough, you are probably overvolting your board and it doesnt like it.....i have ran into this issue before.........One more thing, the NB on this thing is much cooler than gigabyte's overall, this is a much better board than gigabyte in every way!!! this is my opinion and believe me, i have used both boards, i had the gigabyte for 2 weeks, and i already like this one much more.
Anyway i got my board today and i must say, i am impressed, wow..........this thing is much better than gigabyte's board, for one thing the cpu voltage doesnt jump around while loading, it stays at a steady volt, number 2, i am running prime for an hour now, with my cpu at 3.82ghz 425x9 with 1.472v on load, gigabyte needed 1.57 for same results, so far so good, this board is a keeper!!!!
tommorow i should have the g.skill 4gb kit, ddr1000........will report results soon as i get that kit, hoping for atleast 533, for ddr1066, wont be bad at all, 4gb kit that does 1066 for $190 bucks!!!
did someone check nb temps using the wb ? any comparison with air temps ?
All ballistix PC5300 can do 450 im rather sure.. If you use bios 0504 flashing back to 0401 might help, the latest one gave me lots of issues.
So would you guys recommend this board after spending a few days with it ?
So what's the call about this board? I'm ready to order but I have to know if it's worth the price - I'm using my custom 1/2" WC (Storm 2x1048 Eheim + BIPIII w/ 3x 120mm Scythe, blocks etc) and I'd like to see 4GHz with a G0 Q6600...
my 2 cents is get it if you are wanting it...i feel that with a couple bios updates this board will be rock solid....i love mine now ive got my problem worked out of it!!
What does everyone have there PCI-E mhz set to??? and what voltage?
So what settings guys to get 500FSB with 8X multi
Or anything to get past 450FSB
Pete -
I tried to no avail to get my old stable OC on my DFI UT P35-T2R to match on my Maximus. On my DFi, I could run night and day @ 475*8, DDR1141 with my Ballistix Tracers 8500's. With the Maximus, I get errors, or Vista won't install correctly. Right now I am running 423*9 at DDR1016 and it ran the Everest Burn In test for 24 hours no problem. I tried swapping to a 7x multiplier and still no go. I am hoing someone with the Tracers can post a stable high FSB setting so I can try there's. Right now, I am sticking with 423*9 till either a bios update comes out or the sun, moon, and stars finally align correctly to allow me my old DFI settings. I've even tried rearranging my memory in the slots and still get the same error at the same MB pass on MemTest at 475.
I know that, but at 475, wouldn't even run for a minute without erroring out or locking up. At 423 I am OCCT stable. On the DFI, I am 475 stable without a hiccup!
OK.......so i after re-seating my heatsink, my temps are a little better, but jump around every second, either 2 up or 2-5 down, temps are in good range but it jumps up and down every couple of seconds, my quad has a big temp difference between cores, no matter how i remount it, im priming now no errors, 30 mins into it, is this normal, or should i mount, im used to seeing a temp stuck at one number while its loading, this jumps around, should i remount or leave?
EDIT: ok so i remounted the heatsink, seems like i put a bit too much AS5...problem solved
Any reason the Onboard gigabit marvell NICs arent allowing me to set 1000mbps?
I have the q6600 and a asus maximus, water cooling system, 1000w psu, well im able to get to 3.7 stable with a load temp of 63, when ever i jump to 3.6 i wont be stable at 1.525 which is the stable v of 3.7 I raise it to 1.5 and it becomes stable but my temp get really high lke 77 80... what kind i do to lower my voltages so it will lower my temp... thanks (note: i havent touch any other v besides the vcore)
LOL naw dude, im selling my 2gb HZ, because my 4gb g.skill DDR2 1000 is coming in a few hours.
Ignore my previous post abut the onboard LAN...seems when the light is green its running 1000mbps.
Anyways I am finally getting somewhere with stability.

This is Orthos blend testing atm, priority 9 w/ round off checking.
2hours in, will let you guys know how it turns out after like 24hrs or so.
EDIT: Forgot to say, avoid 0504 it sucks and it isnt stable and the dividers seem broken. I couldnt boot 2:3, or 5:4 only thing that would work is 1:1, and those dividers at sub 450mhz FSB.
Hi, can those who are OC'ing and producing the chart please add idle and load temps for CPU and MB, thanks...
ChrisC
I'm going to flash back to the shipping BIOS i think as well. Bord is still working even though i accidently pulled the X38 IHS off, hehe. Kinda scary it was but more so the offers i've had for it!
I'm tempted to try it out a half built/modded Vapochill LS i got in the workshop to see what happens!
I'm tempted to try my Cellshocks and see what they do along with X1900XTX CF setup
If i see anyone on the street from Asus i am going right over to wack one up there ally. 13 hours now there ********* little so called ***** website has been offline. Asus listen, want my cash, you say ya offer so called surport then get a website that ****** works 24/7!
All i want is a sodding BIOS and google can't even find the shipped bios with bord
PM me and i email it to you if you like.
Can someone give me a link to the BIOS/Drivers etc.? The Asus web site has nothing listed for the Maximus.
Thanks!
what setting should i put iin my bios to make a 3.8 stable all i have done is changed the fsb and the vcore to 1.6 but is to hot, which other settings should i change and to how much like the sb v to what nb to what etc...
Geee, guys... how about less whining and more looking?
I don't even own this board but the first thing I've checked was Asus main ftp site - and there you go, both ROM available for download...
:welcome:
any suggestions?
T2k - thanks for you PM, it wont let me send any back, bloody forum but i have saved the FTP just incase,
Loco sent me it both on MSN and e-mail.
Got it on but it keeps lossing ym RAID array
OK, here is a small statistics about the memory modules people in this topic use with this board:
Ballistix PC8500
Cellshock PC8000
OCZ FlexXLC PC2-9200
Corsair XMS2 Dominator DDR2 800 (CM2X1024-6400C3DF)
Crucial Ballistix PC5300 CL3
OCZ PC8000 (Micron D9GKX)
What's the best kit money can buy for this Maximus (not insanely priced but reasonably priced, up to 1333MHz)?
Well 1 or stick of ether are not doing anything past 455FSB!
0401 BIOS
Settings all on AUTO
Stock cooling on it all, everything!
I'm kinda bord and gettting rather use to a laptop now so tempting to ditch it and just buy a :banana::banana::banana: hot laptop
is there any problem with the 0405 bios??
I used 4 x 1Gb G.Skill 6400 NZ goes upto about 1000 quite happily. Not the quickest or the best but fairly cheap.
Im going to try my mcw30 at the weekend, pretty sure it will fit, i know the maze4 will fit as thats the one Clunk fitted
For 24/7...

Can you post your settings using the "template" provided above? Many issues with 4 sticks on this chipset...got my third board that will not run 4 sticks with default settings.
Fugger assured me this was a non-issue...but I've yet to find a solution for running 4 sticks without errors...got same issues on Giga-DQ6 too.
My rams do 1142mhz @ 2.1v...prime blend stable, so it ain't the ram...even more towards it being the chipset/bios is the fact that two sticks work jsut fine(also giga board exhibiting same symptoms points in this direction as well...)
You, too, Hornet...I realize you're runinng jsut 2 sticks...but...
This is what i have done so far:
Vcore = 1.6v
CPU PLL = 1.8v
NB = 1.730
DRAM = 2.2v
FSB T. = 1.6v
SB = 1.175
SB 1.5v = 1.850
And my mult is set to 9x and my fsb to 445, so im running 4.0 Ghz, it will boot but is not stable my temp idle is 48C.... What can i do?? what should i change? thanks
My best score for the moment with Asus Maximus Formula SE and cascade :D
